TTC with PCOS

Ainat266 · 15/03/2015 14:25

Are there any other ladies out there trying to conceive with PCOS? Or any success stories of conceiving with PCOS?

We've been ttc and off of bc since August. Since then I've been diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin. I am overweight, especially for my height as I'm only short - but am trying to lose the weight. I'm almost at a 10% weight loss since getting the PCOS diagnosis in November 14. I haven't had any periods since coming off of bc in August 14, apart from what I'm guessing was a withdrawal bleed (that happened pretty much straight away - end of August) and a couple of very light bleeds that lasted no longer than a day.

I'm just feeling all a bit fed up now and think I need to hear from others that are either in a similar boat or have been able to have healthy normal pregnancies despite the PCOS.

Hi Vixx. I'm so sorry to hear about your mc Flowers That must have been truly awful! It is shocking to me, just how common mc is.... I had no idea before I started ttc. I've been ttc for 10 months now- nothing in comparison to you but feels like forever. I was also diagnosed with PCOS as a teen and told it was so severe I would never conceive without medical intervention.
My GP has been amazing and referred me after 5 months ttc because of my diagnosis and all of my bloods and scans have confirmed that I am not ov'ing. I have never had AF unless it is induced by meds so clomid and IVF really are our only options.
Can I ask are you paying for IVF too or are you eligible for funding for that? My DH has 2 DDs so we are not eligible for funding so I really hope that 100mg clomid does something for me!
I start Provera on Friday for 5 days and should bleed soon after- how about you? x

RoseBud2015 · 03/06/2015 18:14

Updated stats are >>>>>> HERE ladies Smile

VixxFace · 03/06/2015 18:21

The miscarriage was pretty bad and it feels harder now because you know what you lost if you know what I mean.

Were you scanned on the 50 mg? Did the drs see any change?
How long will they put you on 100 mg for?

We are getting ivf free. I think it's so unfair when because the man has children a lady who hasn't had any doesn't get help. I hope they look at it.

I had my last period 22nd May. I had to take norethisterone to bring on af as all I've been having this year is irregular spotting, so i will be due on around the 22nd but I think it won't happen without the medication.

I can't access that spread sheet for some reasonð???

AbFab86 · 03/06/2015 18:39

Hiiii ponty! Well done on the weight loss! Think I need to join you, I'm sure I'm piling on the pounds Hmm Probably nothing to do with the multiple takeaways a week and forgetting to go to the gym...

Vixx welcome! Sorry to hear you're struggling with funding in your area. Seems a bit pointless that they offer one free cycle of clomid even if it isn't the right dose.

Rufus sorry you're having a panic Sad I really hope it's just a bit of normal spotting. Your HCG should give you a clear answer. FX for you.

Cobblestones woohoo you ovulated! Well done ovaries Wine When's your proper POAS date then?

Rosebud sorry to keep you waiting! I waited patiently all day to be called (including keeping my phone on me throughout a school trip to a Pepsi bottling plant - very loud!) to no avail. I called them multiple times but nobody answered. Eventually, someone answered and said they couldn't give me my results over the phone but he could email them. Said he'd do it right away. Half an hour later and still no results, so rang back and made him spell out my email address to me Grin Said he'd send it again. I was so nervous opening the email when it finally arrived! My progesterone had to be between 1.7 and 27 and it was......25.6!!! So it worked Grin Amazed that my body has actually done one little thing fairly efficiently. It usually takes months to respond to anything. So now it's just a case of being patient and waiting until next week to test (I won't...I know I won't..). I'm quite pleased to know though that I didn't react badly to it (unless you count mood swings, nipples that could have their own post code and skin like a teenage boy) so if we don't get pregnant this cycle I can keep using it over the summer when we're away from home.

I really really really hope those of you who haven't reacted to 50mg get a kick start with 100mg and are in this position next month Smile Don't feel useless because you haven't had the right dose yet. It's your ovaries' fault. You are not your ovaries. Hat shopping would be twice as expensive if you were.

RoseBud2015 · 03/06/2015 19:06

Vixx I can only imagine how awful it was Flowers Yes I was scanned on 50mg twice and no changes at all, not one follicle above 6mm! Angry Because the 50mg didn't work it doesn't count as one of the 6 that you are entitled to. This means if (and it's a big IF) 100mg clomid works then I get 6 cycles worth to try with! If it doesn't work, either it will be upped again to 150mg or they will send me straight to IVF. Glad to hear you will be getting IVF for free if all else fails Smile
I'm not sure why the spreadsheet wont work for you- I've definitely linked it correctly. It's an online excel spreadsheet.

Ab Woohoo!!!!! That's fab news Smile Pepsi bottled plant hey?! Hmm sounds like a fun trip Hmm Oh, and hat shopping Grin Grin you do make me laugh with your little stories and funny little sayings!

Shellbell0403 · 03/06/2015 21:36

Rosebud you should be eligible since DDs don't live with you! I got told I'm eligible since hubby's don't live with us!

Thanks everyone...

Ok I'm on day 97... Had sore nipples since Sunday and stomach sore and pains on right side.. Went to toilet this morning and had ALOT of EWM?! Had it on off over the time but seemed a lot today. Been an emotional wreck and in a horrible mood today!

Vixx sending hugs

Xx

Hi, sorry I've been Awal for a while. I only have time for a quick update now but I'll be back on the weekend to go back through the thread properly.

I'm on day 45. No signs of anything. POAS on Saturday - BFN. My relaxed attitude disappeared and I cried like I haven't cried in a long time.
Even DH was upset, and he tends to be strong, calm and positive for me so that somehow made me feel guilty, like its my fault he was upset.
I'm having a hard time in work at the moment too so it all just feels too much.
All I can think right now is that the stress and upset is overwhelming. I feel so disappointed in my body, guilty for my poor DH who is stuck going through all this because my body doesn't work properly and stress because it just doesn't switch off. I'm not sleeping properly and I'm swinging from eating everything I can see to having no appetite at all.

Sorry for bringing my sadness to the thread but I saw that a few posters have asked how I'm doing.

Fingers crossed for all of you who are ovulating / on the tww now Flowers

mistletoeprickles · 04/06/2015 09:21

Finally had time to catch up on everything.

Ab brilliant news on your bloods. When do you plan on testing?

Cobble Congratulations on ovulating. What cd are you on?

Vixx I'm glad you've popped over to join us.

Chan your not out until AF arrives, theres still time yet.

Rufus Please try not to panic. I bleed several times in my pregnancy with DD. The first time was a round 6 weeks but all was fine every time and I currently have a very bouncy 4 year old singing to the Frasier theme tune.

mistletoeprickles · 04/06/2015 09:30

Isit Flowers Quite frankly ttc sucks and everyone has their down days and its ok. You'll be back to being positive soon.

Rose Provera hates me, it takes 13 days to make me bleed. Horrible stuff.

So I went for my bloods yesterday, it was day 22 but hey ho. The nurse wasn't very nice. She didn't like that I knew what I was talking about. Results could be back tomorrow but it's looking like Monday. I'll be shocked if it goes back saying I didn't ovulate because there was a LH surge. The ttw has gone quite fast, just another week to go although I have read that people can get a positive as early has 8dpo but I want to avoid disappointment as much as possible. I've still got period style pains so can only presume my cysts are playing up. Theres been no sign of implantation pain yet either and as I've said previously, I had terrible pain with DD so I'm not getting my hopes up.

Cobblestones · 04/06/2015 13:25

Vixx im so sorry to hear about your mc. was it a missed mc? i know what it feels like and I'm so sorry you also had to go through it. nhs sucks. can't believe they made you wait so long to get clomid.
to answer ur qs - i did have to see a doc before i could get a private presc but she was great. i took all my blood test results which i had from before and she just did a couple of extras and had me on clomid within a month

rosebud i really hope the next cycle works for u.. and it will!! stay positive!! hugs

abfab i love how you write. this should be the group's motto = you are not your ovaries :D love it hehe and congrats on ovulating!!

isit really hope things start looking up for you and soon. it really sucks to be in limbo. i forget what cycle of clomid are you on?

cd26 today. i'm planning to poas sat morning. will go buy them tmw. but I'm trying not to get my hopes. i don't have any real symptoms. when i first got pregnant a year and a half ago i got a lot of stretching pains even before i got a positive which i don't have this time.. so im expecting a bfn

AbFab86 · 04/06/2015 16:27

mistletoe I'm planning on POAS a week today. In reality, I will probably POAS on Sunday. We are in the middle of moving house and I have packed all my tests so I'm not tempted Grin I've had quite a few pains in my uterus sort of area today. Hoping that is something bedding in!

Cobblestones that's exciting that your POAS day is near! Can't wait to hear how it goes!

I started a blog a couple of weeks back about TTC with PCOS. If anyone is interested just google bone idle ovaries Smile

Pebbles086 · 04/06/2015 19:36

Wow ladies, I have missed a lot!!

Welcome to the new ladies, I feel silly saying that because I am still new myselfSmile

Glad to see a few of you have had good news with regards to OV and meds working.
I too have FX for rufus I cannot imagine the level of worry, but like the others have said, spotting is common, easy for me to say but try relax and stay positive xxxxx
I've had tiny bit of good news, I had some bloods in relation to the fluid in my left pipe and the results have came back all clear, so it's nothing sinister, only have to wait till tues till my TV Scan and hopefully can get the ball rolling in terms of referral or advice on my best option to conceive. I've read that fluid in the tubes often results in it having to be removed and IVF the only option?! I am staying positive for now though.

I have a reflexology appt on Saturday I am looking forward to it so much Grin
Vixx you should really question the financial cost of Clomid, especially when it can be dispensed from a pharmacy. Don't be afraid to question the professionals, your entitled to a good service regardless where you live xx

Big hugs to all you lovely ladies and Cake
To anyone feeling a little down xxxx

Cobblestones · 04/06/2015 19:56

pebbles that's great news. Hope the referral/next steps get sorted soon

Just a quick one to say abfab I enjoyed ur blog ESP the one about the useless advice.. I nearly missed my station on the way home I was so caught up haha keep em coming!

Pebbles086 · 04/06/2015 21:10

Thank you cobblestone I am glad you didn't miss your stop!! Grin
FX for when POAS, cobble and abfab
Hope when I get some treatment I am as clued up with my cycles etc as all of you (if I ever get AF) xx
So I hear the weather is meant to be good this weekend, everyone have a good one Grin xxx

VixxFace · 04/06/2015 21:59

Hi everyone, thank you for welcoming me. There are so many of you! I am going to read through the stats properly so I can see where everyone is at.

I went for my appointment today. Apparently the clomid cycle tracking is that price because it's scans as well. I said can I get them from the gp but the Dr said they don't recommend as you could end up with quads if not monitored. He was resisting against the ivf saying I should try clomid 100 mg or iui before ivf.
It is all so confusing.

I didn't have a mmc. I had a scan which showed a heartbeat then four days later cramps and it was all over.

VixxFace · 04/06/2015 22:00

Rose hopefully you will get going on the 100 mg. It is so frustrating when you just want to be pregnant and you just can't even ovulate!

Rufus200 · 04/06/2015 22:33

Vixx if you did have 4 follicles what would you do? would you skip that cycle? I only ask because I had 4 at one of my scans and I decided I was still going for it as each one only has a 25% chance! I was made to have another scan and 3 days later only 1 had continued to grow and the other 3 had regressed! Other then you getting to know that you have grown follicles I think follicle tracking is pointless! It is very nice to know that the Clomid is working but it is also really upsetting for follicles to not continue to grow! I also think £250 for Clomid and 1 scan then the NHS is ripping you off! There are places in London that do scans for £100! This cycle I had no monitoring on Clomid at all and it worked!

Quick update no bleeding today, having my 2nd HCG tomorrow.

mistletoeprickles · 04/06/2015 22:33

vixx a lot of us are unmonitored because various PCT'S don't support the scans. I was monitored on my first cycle of 50mg which failed then they stopped scans so I've had a 100mg unmonitored with just a day 21 blood test. Yes there is a risk of multiple follicles maturing but then what are the chances of multiple sperm meeting those eggs.
I was really concerned about being unmonitored but when I looked into the likely hood I relaxed a bit

battenberg123 · 05/06/2015 09:57

Hi everyone, Thanks for adding me to the stats list rosebud, I feel proper special now Grin

Myself I'm 29, still trying to get a proper diagnosis between PCO and PCOS, I think I'm more likely to have PCO from what information I've gathered so far as I still have regular (all be-it strange) periods.

Sounds like all of you are on a tough journey, it's very hard!

I'm ashamed to say that I had a termination a couple of years ago due to antenatal depression so really I feel I bought this all on myself.

battenberg123 · 05/06/2015 10:42

And congrats on the BFP Rufus!

chandelierswinger · 05/06/2015 11:07

Morning all!

CD32 here... BFN... but then think I've had a no OV cycle anyway, so not sure why I keep POAS (addicted!!). True to form, no AF either. Standard really! Feeling nauseous on and off, but that's a pre-AF symptom too, so hopes are not high. Instead of googling early pregnancy symptoms, I'm now googling supplements. This was my first AC cycle and I can't decide whether to give it another go or try something new when (if) AF decides to arrive. Current favourite 'google' is soy isoflavones. Any thoughts?

Rufus Thinking of you as you have your second HCG test today.

Battenberg I have both PCO and PCOS; the GP I saw recently annoyed me with the 'oh have you had that confirmed?'... erm, yes dear, since I was 19. Anyway, the syndrome has varying degrees so, even though your periods are regular, you could still have some of the other symptoms (iyswim). Please don't ever think that you have brought this on yourself. All this is hard enough without beating yourself up. I think you were incredibly brave to come to the decision you did, and for 'fessing up to it too. There is no shame or judgement here. Life can be tough. Flowers

AbFab Love the blog! You have a lovely way with words. I love to write too, and started a blog when I was weaning my DD, but let it drift off. If I had a blog now, I think I'd end up spending faaaaaar too much time on it!!

chandelierswinger · 05/06/2015 11:10

AbFab GL for the move and f x'd for Sun!!! Bedding in sounds good Smile

Pebbles Nothing sinister is great news. Enjoy your reflexology appt Smile. I used to have cranial and loved it. I do love a hands-on therapy!

Cobbles GL for tomorrow morning! Your will power is better than mine!!

mistletoeprickles · 05/06/2015 11:42

So day 21 results are in. Receptionist wouldn't give me them though Angry so I'm on the count down until 1pm when a doctor will hopefully be able to tell me

chandelierswinger · 05/06/2015 12:01

1 hour to go mistletoe... Stay calm! Brew

battenberg123 · 05/06/2015 12:10

Good luck Mistletoe, and thanks for not judging chandelier Flowers

My GP is actually really helpful, I must be getting on his nerves as I'm in there at least once a month now!
