TTC with PCOS

Ainat266 · 15/03/2015 14:25

Are there any other ladies out there trying to conceive with PCOS? Or any success stories of conceiving with PCOS?

We've been ttc and off of bc since August. Since then I've been diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin. I am overweight, especially for my height as I'm only short - but am trying to lose the weight. I'm almost at a 10% weight loss since getting the PCOS diagnosis in November 14. I haven't had any periods since coming off of bc in August 14, apart from what I'm guessing was a withdrawal bleed (that happened pretty much straight away - end of August) and a couple of very light bleeds that lasted no longer than a day.

I'm just feeling all a bit fed up now and think I need to hear from others that are either in a similar boat or have been able to have healthy normal pregnancies despite the PCOS.

Hi everyone,

I have just been through my first try of clomid and had a scan on day 8 NOTHING
I just had a scan today (14) No follicles.

They want to scan me again Monday because I have long cycles.
I have ivf booked September which I don't want but I am so upset right now. I feel useless.

Rufus200 · 03/06/2015 10:51

So upset right now, started to pass brown tinged discharge this morning and having very different cramps to before. Before felt like something was burrowing in my uterus and very distinct localised pain but now diffuse pain, feels like AF cramps! Sad Been crying, on my own, got to drive 1hr to my mum's to then go to the Dr, going to have blood HCG done today and Fri. It had all been good till this morning other then having pain round my ovaries, which might have been my cysts, it all seemed so positive. Guess I just have to wait and see.

chandelierswinger · 03/06/2015 11:18

verysadtime Lovely news; congratulations! Gives everyone hope.

Ponty Hello, I'm a newbie here Smile, also doing SW. Weighed in this morning after a lovely holiday... I've put back on all but 1lb of what I lost in the last 6 weeks or so because I am a greedy monkey and really let my hair down on hols but I suppose it's better than not having started at all and being even heavier, iyswim!

Shellbell Go for it! I'm all ears!!

Vixx I know MN doesn't really do hugs, but it sounds like you need one... ((Hugs)) Don't beat yourself up. The first month of trying something new is always a trial and error thing; they will prob up your dose next month to see what response they get. What dosage are you on?

Rufus Oh no Sad Don't give up hope... Brown is usually associated with 'old' blood, and lots of women spot in early pregnancy (which doesn't help you not to panic, I know). Also I had lots of cramping in my first pregnancy (uterus stretching apparently!)... Thinking of you.

I'm CD30 today and, in true beat-yourself-up style, I decided to POAS again. BFN, of course... Feel stupid now as I have no 'symptoms' of any kind (pg or AF) but at least it was an IC so didn't break the bank. Thankfully have hidden the expensive digi ones in downstairs loo (which I shouldn't even have bought yet!) so can't test with them first thing in the morning and won't waste them on anything other than FMU!!

chandelierswinger · 03/06/2015 11:21

Cobblestones Just read your post from yday and wanted to send you some positive thoughts from the sunny south coast. Due dates are hard. Sad

VixxFace · 03/06/2015 11:25

I was on 50mg this month. The first month was free so from next cycle it will be 250 as NHS don't do free clomid in my borough Sad

Thank you for replying.

DrewOB · 03/06/2015 12:16

Keeping fingers crossed for you rufus

Rufus200 · 03/06/2015 12:23

Vixx do you mean £250 for your Clomid or 250mg? My Clomid I had to buy myself but it only cost me £11 a cycle.

VixxFace · 03/06/2015 13:28

250 a month for the clomid and scans per cycle.

Where did you get yours?

VixxFace · 03/06/2015 13:30

The hospital said 250 a cycle for scans and clomid or 700 per cycle for artificial insemination.

They used to give 6 months free. but have now stopped.

VixxFace · 03/06/2015 13:56

No follicles but I'm getting slightly tingly boobs. Doesn't make any sense

Ginfizz90 · 03/06/2015 14:02

Vixx that's crazy I haven't heard of having to pay anything more than prescription fee before.
May I ask what borough you are in?

DrewOB · 03/06/2015 14:03

Is clomid only prescribed by consultant or GP?
I was going to wait another 6 months to ask for treatment options but if it's a long wait I should probably see GP now?

VixxFace · 03/06/2015 14:05

I am at Homerton Hospital as my borough only offered that hospital and I do not live in the area!

I have never heard of it either..I am not sure what to do.

VixxFace · 03/06/2015 14:06

Does the gp prescribe clomid?

Rufus200 · 03/06/2015 15:24

I got a prescription and just went to a local pharmacy and they ordered it in for me. Boots will order it for you. I think it is ridiculous to ask you to pay for a NHS scan but particularly when a lot of Drs don't follicle track anyway! Yes GPs can prescribe Clomid.

I had a scan today but they couldn't see anything as it is too early! I did only ovulate on my right ovary, I thought it was both so quite surprised. No cysts, so not sure why my left ovary is grumbling. I'm waiting for my HCG levels. Getting pink discharge on wiping.

VixxFace · 03/06/2015 15:36

Great news that you have ovulated!

Cobblestones · 03/06/2015 15:54

All - thank you so much for your support. It really helps to log in here and read some supportive messages.. thank you ladies :)

I'm doing a lot better today but more on me later..

Rufus i keep hoping we don't hear from you as no news would be good news. pls try to stay positive. the two women close to me who've recently had babies - they both had spotting in their 5th week. i hope yours is a one off and that it ends soon. good you're being proactive and getting early scans but i don't think you're supposed to be able to see anything till the 6th week?

drew i would go for the job as long as it means it doesn't get in the way of you trying like no long hours and no ridiculous stress levels; also its not like you're obliged to tell your employers you're trying.. i would say go for it

vixx if this is your first clomid cycle shouldnt you give yourself 6 months before booking ivf? i too paid less than £20 for 3x50 mg clomid and mine was prescribed at a private hospital (just coz NHS had refused me any kind of help)

Cobblestones · 03/06/2015 16:03

shellbell pls ask!

abfab i enjoyed your story..! :)

rosebud hope you're in better spirits too.

mistletoe when do you think you;ll start testing?

so I received some much needed good news and to my surprise.. I did ovulate this cycle according to the blood test. i didn't have any obvious signs of ov as some of you might remember from my earlier posts except for the mid cycle cramping.. and even now i don't feel any different other than bloating which could just be me not hitting the gym in the last three weeks. i think i can handle a bfn this month as long as i now know ive atleast made some progress in this otherwise slow moving hell we've found ourselves in

VixxFace · 03/06/2015 16:25

Cobble how did you get the private prescription. When
you went did you have to pay for initial tests etc.

My ivf was booked six months in advance. I couldn't start clomid as couldn't have a proper period until this month.

VixxFace · 03/06/2015 16:33

Does anyone have a private hospital where I could go to do clomid privately? I am in London.

RoseBud2015 · 03/06/2015 16:39

Ab I'm waiting for your blood test results with anticipation- where are you!?

ShellBell 3 weeks today until your appointment Woop! Smile

clmustard Sorry for AF Flowers but at least now you can move on with the next cycle!

Chanderlier Or should that be Grandma pahaha! (You are only 3 years older than Rufus and you are ttc#3!!!) I have read about a lot of women not getting on with metformin- such a shame! I use pre-seed too.... my DH likes it a lot! lol I dont bother with the applicators though Farrrrrr too much hassle I find and completely kills the moment!

Mistletoe One step closer to finding out if you ov'ed! Yay!

Verysadtimes HUGE congratulations! That's amazing news! I can understand why you are still feeling so worried but that is such a positive story Smile. I always thought I would only want one child but now that ttc is proving to be so stressful and long, I would LOVE to have twins! I hope your smaller twin starts to have a growth spurt soon and you have a very uneventful 8 months Flowers

Ponty Hi stranger! Was beginning to wonder whether you were ever coming back! How have you been? Well done on the weight loss AND the ov! That's fab news! How long have you been ttc? I just want to update you on the stats!

RoseBud2015 · 03/06/2015 16:50

Drew Despite what you have said about the new job- I would still go for it! You are only likely to resent your job more if you don't do it and then don't get pregnant for a while.....evoke the law of sod!!!!

Vixx Welcome! I completely understand how you are feeling with the follicle tracking. I have just finished my first round of 50mg clmoid too and both scans at cd10 and cd15 showed no ov Sad so I am now about to start Provera to induce a bleed and start 100mg clomid! I felt (still sort of feel) like a failure too so lets be failures together Wink!!
Vixx I've done some research on NHS and making you pay.... and they can't do that! If you have been referred to a specialist by your NHS GP for fertility help then it is paid for by the NHS! Especially clomid! The only slight difference would be with IVF if you weren't eligible for funding, but otherwise if it's an NHS clinic, they should foot the bill! I would do some more digging on that if I were you!

Rufus I'm sorry to hear that you are worried about pain and spotting. I've read a lot of threads with women having similar worries in early pregnancy. I hope it is just one of the "symptoms" for you and nothing to be concerned about. But I know that wont stop you from worrying. Thinking of you Flowers

Cobblestones You ov'ed too!!! yay! See I really am the ONLY ONE not ov'ing! Except Vixx now too Sad Stupid body! So pleased for you though! Smile

So it turns out I am a clomid baby! My Mum conceived me after 18 months of ttc and 2 rounds of 50mg clomid! Worked for her both times but she didn't conceive until the second cycle. She doesn't have diagnosed PCOS but never ov'ed until clmoid, like me..... so maybe she does have it but didn't realise.

RoseBud2015 · 03/06/2015 16:57

Vixx Also what are your stats and I'll add you to our ever-increasing list! Age? TTC#1? How long have you been ttc? Any other meds except the clomid that you are taking? x

VixxFace · 03/06/2015 18:01

Hi rose bud Smile . When do you think your next period will be with the tablet to induce bleed? I think we will be around the same.

The Gp said that homerton used to fund six months free clomid but it's changed now to just one month!I am not sure what to say tomorrow as we have a clinician appointment.

What are your stats?

VixxFace · 03/06/2015 18:03

I am 29 ttc#1 well I had a miscarriage at ten weeks three years ago so not sure If it would still be class as number 1.

Been ttc for more years then I can count. Was referred to hospital by gp in 2012 and i am only this year getting clomid Sad

Ivf is booked for September.

I have pcos and have had it since a teen.
