TTC with PCOS

Ainat266 · 15/03/2015 14:25

Are there any other ladies out there trying to conceive with PCOS? Or any success stories of conceiving with PCOS?

We've been ttc and off of bc since August. Since then I've been diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin. I am overweight, especially for my height as I'm only short - but am trying to lose the weight. I'm almost at a 10% weight loss since getting the PCOS diagnosis in November 14. I haven't had any periods since coming off of bc in August 14, apart from what I'm guessing was a withdrawal bleed (that happened pretty much straight away - end of August) and a couple of very light bleeds that lasted no longer than a day.

I'm just feeling all a bit fed up now and think I need to hear from others that are either in a similar boat or have been able to have healthy normal pregnancies despite the PCOS.

Rosebud sorry your not feeling good today... Sending hugs!! Not been waiting to long.. Hubby handed sample in on Friday so waiting on results from that too!! Just annoyed and feel hormonal since on day 96 or something!! Can't seem to lose weight either!! Argh!! Hoping af is going to show up next day or so..

Welcome battenberg and chandler ??

Shorty hope your ok.. Let me know how acupuncture goes!!

Hubby told me the other day he's set a time limit for a baby.. He's given me until he's 40 which is only 2 years away... Starting to panic now!!

Thank you for your welcomes Rosebud, Shorty and ShellBell Hello all!

I'm 37 (how did that happen? Shock) but TTC#3 (I hope that is okay, but will totally understand if not, so please, please do say). This is Cycle 3 for us, and all I've done so far is OPKs (Cycles 1/2) and Royal Jelly with Agnus Castus (Cycle 3, AC taken up to Ov, although I'm not convinced I actually did Ov this month and am not sure if it was the AC?). I have been off all 'proper' meds and trying to control my PCO/PCOS with diet and exercise (to varying degrees of success) since having my DCs.

I conceived my DS naturally, first cycle of a 'real' period in 7 years (after stopping all meds incl the pill, dianette), which was obviously wonderful but gave me a false sense of how the PCOS/PCO would affect me. After DS, I was diagnosed with secondary sub-fertility and DD was conceived the month after coming off metformin! (I think, although the met didn't work on those months, it made things a bit more 'normal' iyswim and lulled my body into working once I'd stopped!).

I had the most amazing, supportive GP who had a special interest in obs/gynae/fertility and she was very proactive in getting my CD3/21 bloods done with I was TTC#2, but when I asked 'how long before you'll consider it?' to my new GP last month, she told me to go away, relax and 'it'll happen; you're young!' I was hoping that things had moved on re. GPs understanding PCO/PCOS in the last ten years, but maybe not... Hmm

Was looking in to inositol earlier: anyone seen any changes as a result? Anything else you'd recommend? I used to take starflower oil, but not sure if that's still popular?

chandelierswinger · 01/06/2015 21:41

Sorry for the double post ladies!

Ginfizz90 · 01/06/2015 23:05

I started taking inositol but don't know if I really gave it enough time to work before I got bored and kept forgetting to take it!

Cobblestones · 02/06/2015 09:56

Ginfiz drew glad to hear things are moving along..

Shorty the tip from ur friend about trying something new each month is such a good idea..

Rosebud I can emphathise I too feel so low at the moment.

I'm supposed to get a call from my doc to know the blood test result and she hasn't called me back and I know she's only working today and I can't imagine having to wait till next week

Cd24 today. No idea if I've ov'd and I like a fool POAS which was obv negative but I was hoping against hope the clomid had worked

June is a very hard month for me :( if I hadn't miscarried the first time I would have had a 1 year old today Sad

I'm sorry to put a downer on the mood it's just I feel I have no one to talk to sometimes. Almost all my friends have babies or are pregnant and there's no around me who can relate

AbFab86 · 02/06/2015 10:05

Welcome Battenberg and chandelier!

Rosebud I'm not even going to let you entertain the idea that it won't happen for you. You've had ONE cycle of clomid. A measly one. Looooads of people don't react to one dose. Hell, some people don't react to any but then go on to have babies naturally! It absolutely definitely WILL happen to you, it's a question of when rather than if. And I hope the when is soon! Big hugs.

Shellbell what a ridiculous thing for your hubby to say. Tell him you've set him a time limit for buying you a massive diamond. It's hardly like either of you are sat around doing nothing towards it! You don't need any more pressure.

Sorry I've not been around for a couple of days. Work is mental with 150 reports to write, end of year exams to mark, external exam board marking to do and then, just to make things nice and calm, we've been told we have to move into temporary accommodation this weekend! Arghhhh. Very much wishing I was back in the UK now Sad But never mind, won't be long til I'm back for the summer and out of this sauna!

I have been for my day 21 test today and I will apparently get the result tomorrow. I'll be amazed if it hasn't worked. I've been having mild cramps really low down all week and definitely had an LH surge then ovarian cramps. My skin is absolutely awful. My temperature has shifted and stayed high (although has dipped today implantation dip?). It's just a matter of waiting and seeing I guess. And I'm not very patient!

Mistletoe have you had your day 21 test too? Is anyone else waiting for results? I'm sooo tempted to POAS but I know it's far too early (5/6 dpo) Grin

DrewOB · 02/06/2015 10:37

I'm struggling today,
going back on BC for a while to try and shrink the cists. I also have a potential job offer but how do I accept it while actively TTC? How does anyone move on with their life if they're in Limbo for months or years?

Shellbell0403 · 02/06/2015 11:54

Haha thanks Adfab! Made me smile. Hope all is ok ??

Got my letter in from consultant today... Hubby only handed sample in on Friday and letter was sent same day for next week!! Unfortunately we can't attend that one as he wont be in the country! Should I take it as a good thing and just a quick app or take it as something wrong? Got twings on right side today ?? xx

RoseBud2015 · 02/06/2015 18:19

ShortyK Yes, I like the idea of trying something new each month to try and stay positive. I'm taking inositol and have tried acupuncture (although the acupuncture was relaxing, it did nothing for my cycles!) so I think i'll look into reflexology as it does sound extremely relaxing, and it cant hurt can it?!

Shellbell That's fab that you have got an appointment so quickly. Fertility clinics do "grade" appointments so as you been trying a while and already have PCOS diagnosed this might be working in your favour! You should find that changing the appointment to another date is quite straight forward- grab yourself a cancellation if you can!
Oh also, pass this to your DH..... He's probably saying it without thinking/meaning it, but it's not helpful to put more pressure on yourselves! Men, hey?! Grin

Chanderlier Of course it's ok for you to be here ttc#3!!! Mistletoe and Ponty are ttc#2 so you are not alone! And just because you already have children doesn't make it any easier ttc! How long were you on metformin for before coming off it and conceiving DC2? GPs and specialists are so varied in their support, aren't they?! My GP and consultant have been amazing, but there are others here who have had very different experiences- it's such a postcode lottery! So has your new GP not given you any time scales?! NICE guidelines say they should be referring you after 6 months if you already have a PCOS diagnosis but I'm not sure if that still counts when ttc#3..... I assume so!

Cobblestone Flowers Flowers Sending you lots of flowers to say sorry about your mc and the anniversary of the due date. That's awfully sad. Did you get your blood results today in the end? I really hope you ov'ed!

Ab Thank you for your talking to.... you are sooooo right! It's just so hard when you pin your hopes on something and NOTHING happens Sad. You are spot on though, so thank you! FX for your blood result tomorrow! Smile I have a good feeling about you!!!!

Drew Congrats on the job! I definitely would accept the job if its something you really want. If I had put my life on hold because of ttc, I wouldn't have gone for, and got, a promotion or booked and been on 3 holidays, and wouldn't have booked to travel South America in the Summer..... life is too short to wait for these things! Go for it!

Thanks for all of your words of encouragement and support all- it was just what I needed! You lot are great Smile

RoseBud2015 · 02/06/2015 18:20

Updated stats are >>>> HERE Smile

AbFab86 · 02/06/2015 18:26

Cobblestones I'm sorry I didn't respond to your post in my last one, we must've cross-posted. I'm so sorry about your miscarriage :( You can talk to us on here any time about it. I can't even imagine how horrible it must be to go through it, but then also to have to go through the would-be milestones. Very big hugs xx

This might give people a bit of a giggle. I got a missed call today as I was coming out of work from a number I didn't recognise. I thought, foolishly, that the blood test results were ready so I rang the hospital switchboard (when I rang the number back it didn't ring). Explained to the switchboard lady (bear in mind the vast majority of the workforce here are not native English speakers). It went something like 'I just had a missed call and I think it might have been about some blood test results I had earlier. I'm not sure who called. When a blood test result is given, is it given by the picked this convenient time to forget the word 'pathology' thingy department or by the doctor who asked for it? Or the nurse of the doctor who asked for it obviously, the doctor probably doesn't have time to ring people with test results..'

There was a pause. "Which department would you like ma'am?"

It wasn't the hospital calling. It was my friends at the bank (they call me more than anyone else) asking if I'd like a loan. I assured them that, in fact, I hadn't changed my mind over the last 48 hours but thank you very much for the regular opportunities.

Hmph.

Ginfizz90 · 02/06/2015 19:55

Hahaha abfab brilliant!!

Shellbell0403 · 02/06/2015 19:59

Rosebud thank you ?? shall give him a slap! Haha..

Cobblestones.. I'm sorry to hear that.. Sending love and hugs!!

Drew congrats on the job ??

Abfab thanks for the giggle...

Changed my app.. 24th June now!! Xx

clmustard · 02/06/2015 20:25

af came today. I had a glass of wine for lunch. Now I am drinking ALL the rum.

clmustard · 02/06/2015 20:29

Drew. If you want the job, take the job. Think about it as a Job for after potential mat leave. They are investing in you for now and the future. TTC should not be an issue.

chandelierswinger · 02/06/2015 20:37

clmustard That's pants. Here, have this to help soothe things too Cake
I'm a few days behind you in the AF department, but already planning the large Wine or two when it happens...

AbFab love it! That's the kind of thing I'd do!

Rosebud Thank you for the warm welcome. I took 3 months of met (couldn't get on with it) and I'm not sure what good it did to my weight/blood sugar etc. I'm now a stone heavier, so losing the weight would be an even better idea, but, like many other PCOS ladies, I find it so hard!

Forgot to say I've been using pre-seed too. Anyone else? Delightful stuff! Hubby likes it too Blush Wink

chandelierswinger · 02/06/2015 20:39

OMG, just looked at the stats list... Just call me Grandma! Wink Grin

chandelierswinger · 02/06/2015 20:40

Drew echo the thoughts on taking the job... Always best to regret something you've given a go rather than wonder!

Ginfizz90 · 02/06/2015 22:42

Chandelier I find losing weight near impossible. I find low carb really hard, constantly having to have fresh food in.

I have been taking met just three weeks and got my first natural AF since coming off the pill 9 months ago. Luckily, I felt a bit ick at first but other than that no side effects, I defo haven't seen any weight lossHmm

mistletoeprickles · 03/06/2015 08:42

Just popping into say hello.

I'll have a proper catch up later.

I'm 6/7dpo and have period style pains and have done since yesterday.
I'm off for my day 21 bloods today although it's day 22 because I couldn't get an appointment for yesterday.

verysadtimes · 03/06/2015 08:55

Am in two minds whether to post here but OP asks for "success stories" which I think this is - also am trying to distract myself for a bit.

I was diagnosed with PCOS end of last year after not having a period for several months. Blood tests and ultrasound confirmed PCOS. Was referred to gynae and advised to lose weight. I was quite overweight with my BMI approaching 35, I managed to loose over two stone to get my BMI to 30 (at which point the gynae had said I can start Clomid), however before my appointment I spontaneously had my first period in 9 months and got pregnant that cycle!

I'm currently around 6.5 weeks and an early scan this week showed two heartbeats. Twins. There is some uncertainty, I had some bleeding and one twin was significantly smaller than the other at the scan so I have to go back next week to see what's going on but for now - that's my "success" story...

PontyGirl · 03/06/2015 09:04

sorry I've been off for so long, life has been manic!

any bfps?

I'm still doing slimming world, have lost half a stone and had a period on cd62 on my own, which is v impressive for me [

how is everyone Brew

Shellbell0403 · 03/06/2015 10:12

Hi,

How's everyone this morning? Can I ask some advice... Don't know whether it will be to much info?!

Thanks in advance xx

DrewOB · 03/06/2015 10:23

I work in a very male oriented industry.
The new job is very interesting and more money but also has no enhanced maternity cover at all, and I was warned at the interview that they are not looking for someone who's going to be part time/ on/off for leave.
