TTC with PCOS

Ainat266 · 15/03/2015 14:25

Are there any other ladies out there trying to conceive with PCOS? Or any success stories of conceiving with PCOS?

We've been ttc and off of bc since August. Since then I've been diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin. I am overweight, especially for my height as I'm only short - but am trying to lose the weight. I'm almost at a 10% weight loss since getting the PCOS diagnosis in November 14. I haven't had any periods since coming off of bc in August 14, apart from what I'm guessing was a withdrawal bleed (that happened pretty much straight away - end of August) and a couple of very light bleeds that lasted no longer than a day.

I'm just feeling all a bit fed up now and think I need to hear from others that are either in a similar boat or have been able to have healthy normal pregnancies despite the PCOS.

Ab 2dpo here too and no tummy pains anymore and the bloating has died down too so I now believe I'm on my first ttw. It's going to be a nightmare and I'll be counting down the days. With DD I had severe implantation pain (didn't know that's what it was at the time) so I'll be waiting for that but I've then got to remember every pregnancy is different and I may not get it a second time round

AbFab86 · 31/05/2015 08:50

I agree the TWW is going to be tough! When are you planning on testing? I know the FRERs can pick it up really early, but I don't want to waste them Grin I shouldn't even be thinking about this now, I'm only 3dpo!

Popcorn my latest not real symptom is ridiculously high BMs. Woke up this morning, blood sugar was fine, did my normal insulin and had breakfast, 2hrs later (when it should be back to normal) it was 24!! Should be around 5-8. Crazy and no reason for it! Hadn't even started munching on my birthday cake by that point Grin Anyway did some insulin and now it's still high, although not as high. Insulin resistance in diabetics soars in the first trimester

Congratulations Rufus!!

Rosebud they only stay with us at weekends! Friday to Sunday and then abit longer on the holidays!
Howard is my favourite so I'm happy he's still in take that!! Lol..

I haven't been to docs yet as was waiting on my app with consultant but think I may go and ask if they will give me something since my cycle is so long?? Do you think they would?

Can anyone recommend the best diet to do with PCO?

Ain626 · 31/05/2015 18:46

Hi everyone,

just having to catch up as not been on in a few days... but YAY! I've come back to a BFP!!! Congratulations Rufus Flowers Thank you for giving all of us hope. And please stay on here and keep us updated on how things are going. I totally think setting up another thread on the pregnancy board when a few more of us WILL get our BFPs is a great idea though.

Hello to the new ladies that have joined the thread.

I'm on CD32 today. Still no signs of anything. I was hoping for a more normal cycle this cycle. Sad I am having a really rough day today. Everything is making me cry and I am so so tired despite a good nights sleep last night. I'm also quite spotty on my chin, for me anyway (normally I only have the odd one every so often).

Last day of half term too. Hope I feel a bit better tomorrow!

Ain626 · 31/05/2015 18:47

Shell as for diet... low carb diets.

Pebbles086 · 31/05/2015 19:15

Ain I hate hormonal days, not just the emotions but the effect it has on your body. I get terrible skin when I am having a bad day.
Do you like herbal tea? Sounds weird but a cup of camomile tea helps to calm and relax me when I am upset.

I hope you feel much better soon.
I feel a little rough today but it's totaly self inflicted, the DH and I went for a meal and a few drinks last night. It's been a long time since we done that, had fun and didn't talk about grown up stuff!! Back to being healthy again now and waiting for my scan appt :)

Xxx

Hope all you ladies have a great week :)

DrewOB · 31/05/2015 19:21

Congrats!
I think AF just started on day 29, which is nearly a regular cycle so good in a way. About to go back on BC for a few months.

Pcos is very sensitive to stress too, yoga or tai chi may help with it :)

Ginfizz90 · 31/05/2015 20:52

Drew AF arrived for me today too how funny!
Been taking MET for two weeks and just managed a 34 day cycle!!! Might not sound very exciting but I've yet to have ANY natural AF since coming off the pill 9 months ago.Smile I'm literally in shock. Only you girls can relate to how happy AF makes us.

So glad to finally have our first bfp on here! Congrats again Rufus.

Seems like the morale has been slightly lifted on here!

Shellbell0403 · 31/05/2015 22:20

Thank you ?? is there anything I should avoid or eat more of? Xx

DrewOB · 31/05/2015 22:41

Avoid anything with fast sugars, in particular cereals. Do you feel sluggish after meals? I feel so much better now that I only eat granary bread and no sweets

Shellbell0403 · 31/05/2015 22:45

Yes.. I do now I think of it!! Starting low carb tomorrow ??

Thank you so much everyone for your help and support!! Don't have anyone else to talk to or discuss with expect hubby.. And don't like speaking to him about it haha!!

I have sore boobs tonight and a pain in my right side.. Hoping this is a sign of af coming.. Hopeful thinking! Hope everyone else is having a lovely weekend xx

DrewOB · 01/06/2015 10:23

I recommend getting the PCOS handbook (kindle or hardback). My partner read it too and it explained a lot about the mental side of the condition which he wasn't aware of until that point.

battenberg123 · 01/06/2015 10:56

Hi everyone, does anyone mind if I join you all! I have been trying for about 9 months, recently my doctor says he suspects PCO but I don't have many of the symptoms apart from high prolactin and boderline low progesterone of 25.5. Had a chemical pg in January and since then my periods have been really strange!

Any tips or anything would be so much appreciated! Smile

DrewOB · 01/06/2015 11:10

Have you done a test for Testosterone level?

I'm in a rotten mood today, 6 months trying, 4 periods in total but all BFN :(

battenberg123 · 01/06/2015 11:39

Hi Drew, sorry to hear 6 months for you, feels like 12 months doesn't it!

My doctor did testosterone but he kind of skimmed over that result, I have a page full of results but no idea what any of it means!

DrewOB · 01/06/2015 11:46

so AF has just stopped after less than a day Hmm. Not jinxing it though.

Do you have any of the PCOS symptoms? you can have PCO ovaries and hormones messed up without having PCOS.

Ginfizz90 · 01/06/2015 12:01

Sorry to hear that drew, prehaps a bit of spotting before it properly make an appearance? Mine is awful Confused

DrewOB · 01/06/2015 12:09

it was pretty heavy, but only lasted about 12hrs. Very odd. (sorry TMI)

Drewob it's PCo ovaries they think I have and not pcos but waiting to get it confirmed xxx

chandelierswinger · 01/06/2015 15:59

I have both PCO and PCOS and am currently TTC. Hope it's okay to join?

Having finally made the decision to 'go for it', I had the most bizarre cycle I've had in a looong time in April. I ovulated (YAY!) and also had some implantation bleeding (double YAY!) then endured BFN after BFN until I finally came on 12 days after my longest cycle in the last year. Obviously something to do with us finally deciding to start actively 'trying' Not sure why Hmm Anyway, think I've had an annovulatory cycle this month and am just waiting for AF to show anytime from tomorrow (shortest cycle) to the middle of the month!

RoseBud2015 · 01/06/2015 17:29

ShellBell my SDDs live hundreds of miles away from us so we only see them in the school holidays but they stay for weeks at a time so we get lots of quality time together! (especially as I'm a teacher so off work with them the whole time!)
If you're waiting for your appointment with the consultant, it's probably not worth going to the doctor for progesterone first tbh. I'd wait until you go to the clinic- how long have you been waiting for an appointment? Is it worth chasing it up in case it "got lost" in the system?

Ain Definitely know what you mean about feeling down at the mo- it's a combination of the end of half term and being back at work with all the usual crap that it brings, and feeling like things aren't going anywhere again! So frustrating!

Drew and Gin Yay for AF! At least you are both now out of limboland! And it came naturally for both of you..... even better Smile

Battenberg Welcome! How old are you? Are you trying for your first? Sorry to hear about your chemical pregnancy Flowers When you say your AF has been strange ever since, do you mean long cycles?

Hello Chandlier Of course you can join! Just give me your stats and I'll add you! If you're ov'ing and having relatively regular cycles, it sounds like you are doing a lot better than some of us! I have never ov'ed in my life, or had AF without it being induced with medication! How long have you been ttc?

Well ladies, I am feeling pretty crappy today in all honestly! I feel so down, like this is never going to happen to me!! The worry of the fluid on my endometrium (found on my scan last week) and now bleeding after dtd is making me think there is something else wrong with me rather than just severe PCOS....... I'm hoping it's just my hormones being all crazy after the clomid but I'm not convinced. I will let the consultant know when I phone for my next appointment.
I'm so so happy that so many of you are now starting to get normalish cycles/signs of ov/natural AFs....... but then it just reminds me how far away I am from any of that Sad

ShortyK · 01/06/2015 20:41

Rufus - congratulations on your bfp! How exciting! It also gives me so much hope. Thanks for the advice on things you have been doing to help get pregnant. I've ordered some inositol from Puritans Pride.

Isit - good to hear your bmi didn't stop you from getting clomid. Fingers crossed it won't be a barrier for me. Did you poas?

Rose - I didn't realise Brazil nuts were good for sperm. I shall being buying a packet on my next visit to the supermarket. I think I will also say to my head it's an ongoing health problem if she asks. Hopefully no further questions will be asked and I will try and get as many appointments outside of school hours as possible. Probably jumping a little ahead of myself here anyway! I haven't even had my HSG yet and they might not prescribe me clomid!

Battenberg - Hello! I've only just joined too. There is loads of good info in here so if you have time, I would suggest reading back the thread. Have you had a scan to check for pcos?

Also hello Chandelier!

Sorry to hear some of your are not feeling great. I was a bit down too, it's really hard not being pregnant when we want to be pregnant and have a baby right NOW and not even being close to a bfp can be torture sometimes BUT... I was having a chat with a friend of a friend and she told me it took her over 2 years to get pregnant and although she said it was really hard, each month she tried something new she had read about. She said this helped her stay positive which can be really hard after trying for so long. So I have decided each month I'm going to try something new (acupuncture this month and inositol next month) even if it's something small like a different position for dtd! Think positive. We will all get there eventually. We have to. We will all get our babies and hopefully in the not too distant future for some of us! Never give up hope. (Sorry if that sounds cheesy but I can't contemplate my life without a baby in it.)

Shorty x

Pebbles086 · 01/06/2015 21:05

Sorry to see some of you love belt ladies are feeling down at the minute, it's really crappy going through all this!
Staying positive is hard but it's really important, low moods Ames the w OMG signals to all the important bits we are trying to kick start into action!
I am positive I'll get a natural AF one day!! Fingers, toes, arms and legs crossed!!!

shorty I too ordered inositol, I've read nothing but great things about it! Did you order the powered stuff? Not too sure how you take it though, I read 4g in a glass of water is enough. I am also having reflexology, going for my 3rd session this weekend I love it. Even if it doesn't help with my cycles it's nice to take 1 hour out of the entire week just for yourself, it's total bliss. During my session I think nothing but happy thoughts and imagine the day it finally happens :) I know I sound like a complete idiot haha

If it wasn't for this thread, there is a lot of info I simply wouldn't have got, I've learnt more on here than from my GP! So thank you ladies

Xxx

Pebbles086 · 01/06/2015 21:08

My stupid phone insists on autocorrect!! It's awful, I obviously meant low moods send the wrong signals to our ladie bits:) xxxx
