TTC with PCOS

Ainat266 · 15/03/2015 14:25

Are there any other ladies out there trying to conceive with PCOS? Or any success stories of conceiving with PCOS?

We've been ttc and off of bc since August. Since then I've been diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin. I am overweight, especially for my height as I'm only short - but am trying to lose the weight. I'm almost at a 10% weight loss since getting the PCOS diagnosis in November 14. I haven't had any periods since coming off of bc in August 14, apart from what I'm guessing was a withdrawal bleed (that happened pretty much straight away - end of August) and a couple of very light bleeds that lasted no longer than a day.

I'm just feeling all a bit fed up now and think I need to hear from others that are either in a similar boat or have been able to have healthy normal pregnancies despite the PCOS.

Thanks Rose!

Hmmm, I guess I need to just try and shift as many lbs as possible as soon as possible!

Yes, dh had two sa and the second one was better but still abnormal motility. Also, because it was a few months ago they want him to get retested.

What happenend when your dh got retested? I can see from your stats you have been given clomid! Smile So was his da normal the second time?

Also, what is metformin and inositol?! Sorry to ask Hmm

ShortyK · 29/05/2015 14:48

*sa not da Confused Damn phone

mistletoeprickles · 29/05/2015 15:30

Welcome shorty. There many things that could of effected your DP'S sa. For example if he'd had a lot to drink a week or so before.
Hopefully his retest will be better.

Metformin is drug which is used by diabetics but is also used by PCOS suffers to help with insulin resistance. Some people it works for some it doesn't.

I was one who it didn't work for. I unfortunately had a terrible tummy on it and on a few incidents had accidents.

I've just realised I'll be due to test on the day of my next consultants appointment

mistletoeprickles · 29/05/2015 15:33

Rose I'm only cd 17 but pretty sure I ov'd yesterday. I had positive OPKS on Wednesday (cd15) which have faded now.
I'm having a blood test in Wednesday, for a couple of reasons it'll be day 22 but will still show. I shall come back with the results but they will take until the following Monday.
We had no stage fright thankfully! He's just done as he's told Grin

ShortyK · 29/05/2015 17:04

Thanks mistletoe. Did you gp just prescribe it for you? Or did you have to get more blood tests for it? Not sure I'm keen on the side effects though. I go to the loo every 5 minutes as it is!

I've re read the beginning of the thread and think I might order some inositol. Up for trying anything.

I'm also taking pregnacare conception, using conceive plus and having acupuncture. Hopefully something will happen soon Smile

I notice some of you are teachers... Can I ask how you've managed appointments around work? Did you tell your head? I'm also a teacher but want to keep what I can private. Not quite sure how I will be able to do that on clomid, if I ever get it!

Pebbles086 · 29/05/2015 17:39

Hi shortyk I am pretty new to this group too, it's Lovely to share with these lovely ladies. Very supportive and we all in similar situations.
Welcome and good luck with your spot, I hate the waiting game of spots and tests!!! Xxx

Pebbles086 · 29/05/2015 17:40

I don't mean spots, stupid auto text!! I mean appt. (grin)

PopcornPip · 29/05/2015 18:50

Ok so you guys have inspired me to get some opks. It'll give me something to pee on!

AbFab86 · 29/05/2015 20:37

Welcome Shorty! I'm just on my phone at the moment so only a short reply. I'm a teacher and I've told one woman in my dept that we're going through this process but nobody else. To be honest it's nobody else's business and I really can't see any of my (all male) management team prying any further, especially when it's a woman they're asking. If they do ask, say it's a gynaecology appointment. Nobody in their right mind would continue to dig then!

ShortyK · 29/05/2015 21:22

Thanks AbFab. I think I will try to dodge it as much as possible. I work in primary though so it's people noticing I'm not there and rumours starting that I'm most concerned about. You're right though. It's noone's business.

I must say, I read the thread again (took me a couple of hours!) and it's really reassuring to know people are going through the same kind of thing. It's good to hear all of your experiences and everyone seems so knowledgable. I've learnt a lot!

Mistletoe, hopefully you will test positive on the day and not need the appointment after all. Smile

I'm off to order inositol and opksGrin

Shellbell0403 · 29/05/2015 21:29

Evening ladies..

How's everyone's Friday evening? Sorry been quiet.. Was seeing take that last night ????

I am currently on day 94 ??
Rosebud my two girls are 6 and 10. We get on massively too! Currently cuddled up to the youngest watching TV and they keep asking if there will be a junior soon..

Was meeting my cousins yesterday and she's a nurse in a women's hospital so was surrounded by pregnant women or who had just given birth! So hard!!... Xxx

IsItIorAreTheOthersCrazy · 29/05/2015 23:09

Evening Smile

Welcome Shorty I hope you like the thread. I've found it really helpful! I've been trying since 2013 too - we started in June. It's lucky timing for your HSG. Take some painkillers before you go as it's uncomfortable. Also, I think the effect of your BMI on your treatment varies so widely that you'll need to speak to your consultant. My BMI is quite high and I have a lot of weight to lose but I've been prescribed metformin and clomid.

Drew don't count yourself out yet, you never know. As someone said unthread, it's not over until AF says so!

pebbles I cannot express how much I would love a cold glass of white wine or a cocktail or a rum and coke right now. Apart from getting spectacularly drunk on NYE I haven't had a drink at all in a year. And I miss it so badly at the moment. Wine to you

shell how long are cycles generally? Day 94 is a long cycle. Are you on any treatment?

mistletoe fingers crossed for you!

I'm on cd39 and am feeling a low level anciety because I don't have any answers. I bought 2 pregnancy tests today - am going to POAS tomorrow if no AF. For me AF generally starts overnight so we'll see. Fingers crossed for me too I think!

Hope everyone is doing ok?

Rufus200 · 30/05/2015 08:38

Morning Ladies, test photos are attached. I got a bit carried away and did 4!

TTC with PCOS
mistletoeprickles · 30/05/2015 09:25

Big congratulations rufus Thanks

RoseBud2015 · 30/05/2015 09:34

Rufus You did it! Massive congratulations!!! I hope the coming months are uneventful... come by and keep us updated on how things are going! Smile

AbFab86 · 30/05/2015 10:55

Rufus I came on here especially to see if you had any news and what fantastic news it is! CONGRATULATIONS!!! Over the moon for you Grin What has your DH said??

Cobblestones · 30/05/2015 10:58

Omg Rufus!!!!! Congratulations!!!!!
This gives me so much hope you have no idea. Smile

Cobblestones · 30/05/2015 11:01

How does it feel?
We should update our stats :D

Cobblestones · 30/05/2015 11:12

mistletoe abfab hope the dtd is going well.

I'm on cd21. Have come for my blood test. Mighty nervous about the result..

Rufus200 · 30/05/2015 12:02

Thank you all, I'm very excited. DH and my mum not so much! Both have given me a talking to this morning that it is too early and until I'm a few weeks past AF is due (AF due tomorrow) neither is going to consider this happening. Complete party poopers! I'm having lots of cramps today as well. DH also said why wasn't I puking yet.

A quick recap of what I did this cycle incase it helps anyone. This was my 2nd cycle on Clomid.
Day 2-6 50mg of Clomid.
1000mg of Inositol twice daily since December
Prenatal vits and Omega-3 fatty acids since October
No carbs after 5pm and low calorie diet during the day from CD1
DTD CD 11, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 18. LH surge CD 15 but ovary pain on both sides that I think was ovulation was CD 18.

I'm going to continue taking Inositol as PCOS majorly increases the risk of MC. I contacted Prof. Greene who is doing a study at UCL of women taking Inositol through early pregnancy to reduce spina bifida and he said it was safe.

I'm very hopeful for all of you and that June is going to have lots of BFPs for the PCOS ladies! I will check in to look for your BFPs. Maybe we can have a thread on the pregnancy board so that we can all stick together and support each other.

RoseBud2015 · 30/05/2015 12:49

Drew Sorry to hear you are still having a hard time Flowers After the second suspected mc, did your doctor suggest anything to try and prevent this from happening again in the future? I'm not sure such long cycles should be accepted, even if you are regular and ov'ing....surely it indicates low progesterone or another hormonal problem which needs rectifying?! Is it worth seeking the opinion of another doctor to see what they say?

Shorty My DH's second SA came back as normal except count again! The count had gone up from 8 million to 14 million but still lower than it should be! However by the time the results came back I had already been prescribed clomid so it didn't affect anything. However I think if clomid doesn't work for us then it will be something that will need investigating further. In the meantime DH is on various vits and brazil nuts to try to improve things.
With regards to appointments, I'm a teacher at a sixth form and have tried to keep my appointment times during my free periods so it doesn't impact on any of my lessons. However this hasn't always been possible. My boss has tried to get information out of me about why I am having so many doctors and hospital appointments, but I just say that its an ongoing health problem and nothing for her to worry about. If they do start to get funny about it, I will let HR know confidentially but ask that no one else is told. I honestly don't think it is any of their business so intend to keep it to myself unless absolutely necessary.

Mistletoe finger crossed for your blood test result!

Shellbell How was Take That? Not the same with just the 3 of them, don't you think?!
And the similarities keep on coming- 2 girls, same as mine! Do they live with you? CD94 sucks! I hope you get an end to your "cycle" soon! Is it worth going to the doc and asking for Provera?

Itis Any news from you?

Rufus I think the fact that you got a "pregnant" on a digi is a really good sign as they are not very sensitive tests! But I can understand your DH wanting to keep you grounded... he's just trying to protect you, bless him. I love the idea of a thread in AN once a few of us have our BFPs! Think that is a lovely idea! In the meantime, it would be lovely to get updates from you on here...... I'm going to update the stats with your news if that's ok? Or would you prefer me to wait?

Rufus200 · 30/05/2015 13:38

Rosebud yes please add me to the stats

AbFab86 · 30/05/2015 15:49

That's fab news Rufus. I know my DH will be too giddy, so maybe it's nice for yours to be down to earth about it all. I'm sure once the days go by he'll allow himself to be excited Smile

Isit have you got some tests ready and waiting! I really hope it's a BFP rather than just a dodgy cycle.

mistletoe how are you feeling? I think I'm 2dpo now, although FF is saying I am 3dpo (solid crosshairs now which have moved from the previous dashed ones). I'm not symptom spotting on purpose, but firstly my nipples are SO painful at the moment and secondly I was walking around the mall today and the smells were knocking me sick. I usually can't smell for toffee! Bizarre. I know at 2dpo there's no chance either of those are proper symptoms, more likely just an outcome of producing progesterone myself for the first time in perhaps a decade!

PopcornPip · 30/05/2015 16:11

Congratulations rufus what great news! Is it feeling surreal? Keep us updated with what you're up to.
rosebud good for you, it's none of her business if your work isn't affected.
ab what other possible imaginary symptoms have you been experiencing?
Think we're taking a break from ttc this month. Work, money, major house diy. Not enough available headspace for me or DP! Back on it next month though for sure Smile

Pebbles086 · 30/05/2015 18:33

rufus this has made my day!! I know I don't know you but I am so happy for you!! All woman and their DH's who want to become parents deserve it. Take it very easy and keep up the vitamins. Lots of love to you and keep us posted when you get morning sickness and funny cravings :) xxxx

What great news for the rest of us ladies, it goes to show that the meds can work and they're is hope for us all.

Best of luck to all of you

Xxxx
