TTC with PCOS

Are there any other ladies out there trying to conceive with PCOS? Or any success stories of conceiving with PCOS?

We've been ttc and off of bc since August. Since then I've been diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin. I am overweight, especially for my height as I'm only short - but am trying to lose the weight. I'm almost at a 10% weight loss since getting the PCOS diagnosis in November 14. I haven't had any periods since coming off of bc in August 14, apart from what I'm guessing was a withdrawal bleed (that happened pretty much straight away - end of August) and a couple of very light bleeds that lasted no longer than a day.

I'm just feeling all a bit fed up now and think I need to hear from others that are either in a similar boat or have been able to have healthy normal pregnancies despite the PCOS.

Pebbles086 · 28/05/2015 19:48

Thank You Hunny, a hug is just what I needed!! I am going to try stay positive and not let this get me down too much!
Let's see how long I will last at being positive! Xxx

I am feeling extremely overly emotional and tearful tonight! The idea of AF arriving is just soul destroying to me tonight! I had been having a uterine feeling that I had convinced myself was implantation but yesterday I started to get ovary twinges again and I've been having them all day today. Either cysts or my ovaries are gearing up for another cycle. Boobs are no longer painful. This evening had a heavily pregnant woman waddle past me and literally as she walked past she was whinging about being pregnant.

I'm also really struggling as my friend had her baby 2 weeks ago and I know she doesn't have many people in her life and that I've been very excited for her and bought her loads of baby gifts but she is killing me constantly sending me pics of him! She knows all about the Clomid etc. She even woke me up at 3.30am to send me a pic of him sleeping! I've stopped responding as other then saying he is cute or adorable I just can't think of anyone else to say, in fact I don't even look at the pictures anymore!

I think I will POAS stick tomorrow

Rufus200 · 28/05/2015 20:27

Pebbles big hugs, I have no idea what a TVscan is but I didn't think normal ultrasounds could see Fallopian tubes let alone show a blockage? When I asked if my Fallopian tubes looked ok on the scan I was told that the only way they can see if there is a problem on US is if your tubes have adhesions to your intestines but not if there was an internal blockage. They bounced my uterus about and said none of my intestines appeared to be stuck in that area. I thought the only way to check for blockages is when they put dye through your tubes?

Pebbles086 · 28/05/2015 20:47

Keep smiling rufus, I know how you feel about seeing preggo people and knowing people who are really close to you popping babies out. Just think it will be you one day, it might not be soon but it will happen.
TVScan is the one with the internal camera, my first scan was just the ultrasound around my pelvis etc, it showed a dark area around my tube, so it needs investigating further. I am hoping it's nothing too serious and just fluid. I am actually jealous of you getting AF lol it's been a while since I had one of those!! Haha I am only joking when I say that to you, I know how much AF sucks when your trying. (Hugs) xxxx

Rufus200 · 28/05/2015 20:55

Pebbles fingers crossed then it is nothing to worry about. My appendix was wrapped like a vine down my right Fallopian tube strangling it and covering it in pus when I had appendicitis (I was 12) but I was told as it didn't look like I had any adhesions to assume it was a normal functioning tube.

IsItIorAreTheOthersCrazy · 28/05/2015 22:26

Oh Rufus I don't know what to say. I've felt that way and nothing really makes it better does it? Please believe me when I say that although it's upsetting and painful, the Clomid is magnifying the feelings making it feel almost unbearable.
Can you maybe tell your friend that you know she's excited but can she send you pics all together at a certain time so she's not waking you up? Then if you can't face looking, you can ignore your phone for that hour / until you're ready?

Pebbles I hope your scan goes well. I had a HSG (where they inject dye into your tubes) and had a funny reaction. I didn't realise a camera could possibly be an option!

Ain don't worry too much about BMI. Although I'm dieting I have a long way to go to get into a healthy BMI but I've been prescribed Clomid and it worked on the last cycle. I think weight it more of a factor if IVF is needed but that's a while away if it will be needed at all.

AbFab & mistletoe fingers crossed for your ov!!

Rosebud yes 2 years is a very long time to be trying! It's hard for me to think about to be honest because it feels so unfair.
And yes, 100mg Clomid. I had 50mg first cycle which didn't work, second cycle was increased to 100mg and it def worked. Third cycle is the one I'm in now, 100mg Clomid and inconclusive result. So annoying, but I do think knowing we have a cycle off is helping with where my head is at the moment.

So, cd38. Still nothing. I did have a minor twinge quite low down in my stomach which could possibly have been ovary related but I'm not convinced. I'm trying to maintain my relaxed attitude but it's getting harder because every day AF doesn't show is another day where I'm thinking - ooh I could actually be pregnant, although I know how unlikely that is.
Also, 2 of my pregnant colleagues are starting their maternity leave next week and I just seem to see babies / lovely baby bumps bloody everywhere just now, like the universe is trying to see how much I can handle before I crack!

But I'm staying positive - between us we have an army of specialist advice and huge collective experience. We can figure this out surely Grin

Ain626 · 28/05/2015 22:42

I just need to say thank you to you amazing ladies for being so supportive. Flowers

I had a conversation with DH last night about weight. An actual serious one rather than a 'you look fine' or 'you look beautiful' which although sweet aren't helping me. We've agreed to start trying to eat healthier again (we did this once before, but before ttc). We both want a child so desperately that giving up some of the foods we eat is a small price to pay for an increase in chances when ttc. It's just remembering that. It shouldn't be that difficult, but when you're in the habit of just accepting a few biscuits as well as a cup of tea when visiting someone, etc. it's easy to forget... or is that just me being terrible at dieting?

Rosebud Rufus IsIt how you all feeling?

Rufus200 · 29/05/2015 07:01

Can you see lines or am I imagining it? On my own so can't ask anyone else, don't have any more tests with me either.

clmustard · 29/05/2015 07:18

I think I can see 2nd lines. You need more tests though!

AbFab86 · 29/05/2015 08:02

I will post more later in response to everyone else, but Rufus I'm pretty sure I can see a line in the right-hand one!! Get a FRER immediately! Grin

mistletoeprickles · 29/05/2015 08:52

The one on the right definitely has two lines and I'm usually a rubbish line spotter.

Get to a shop, quick run. Grin

AbFab86 · 29/05/2015 09:52

clmustard sorry about your BFN :( If you did ovulate as late as 21st though then you'd still only be 8dpo so perhaps too early to test? You're not out til AF sings!

Pebbles sorry you're having to go down the testing route. I would echo what others have said though - I don't think it's possible to actually see a blockage on a scan. I'm booked in for a HSG next month to test for any blockages. I don't think they'd bother with HSGs if they could see blockages from scans. Hope everything turns out clear for you :)

Rufus I can empathise completely about everyone being pregnant and having babies. Whenever I go on facebook it seems like every other person is popping out a sprog. My best friend had the most wonderful baby a few months ago. I get daily photos of him, which is fantastic, but also quite wrenching. I know it took her a very long time to have him though, so I don't begrudge her one bit. The others though... :)

Isit have you POAS yet? You're being extremely patient!

mistletoe any other symptoms? I felt like my ovaries were in a vice yesterday! Was quite bloated too. Very uncomfortable but nice in a way to feel like something was happening. No real symptoms yet today so I'm wondering if yesterday was the day. My FF app has put crosshairs on my temp chart for 2 days ago. I'm not convinced that's correct though, because I didn't start getting positive OPKs until 2 days ago. I've attached it just in case anyone wants a look.

One big symptom I've noticed though - my nipples have a mind of their own! They're ridiculously big and very sore. I brushed one against the fridge door this morning and it was agony!! Haha :)

AbFab86 · 29/05/2015 09:53

Oh and meant to say, I hope FF is wrong because we hadn't DTD for 2 days before the ovulation date on there! Can sperm live that long? I know girl sperm swim slower but live longer..maybe it'd be a girl! Hah..still not getting ahead of myself :)

mistletoeprickles · 29/05/2015 10:10

Rufus I kept checking in for news.

Ab I've had a lot of low down pain which was mostly right sided but a few left side twinges. I too am very bloated and I feel heavy. My surge was definitely Wednesday and I think I may of ovulated some point yesterday evening. We've managed to dtd cd13,15 and 16 so I'm hoping we've managed to get some in the right place for the right time.

As its the first time I've ovulated since last October I'm very happy but would like a BFP to go with it! DP informed me he has sent in his best men Grin

Ginfizz90 · 29/05/2015 10:13

Rufus, I'd say positive!!! Wink Get another quick. Fingers crossed

IsItIorAreTheOthersCrazy · 29/05/2015 10:35

mistletoe your DH comment just made me giggle

AbFab I POAS on cd 32 and got BFN but still have no AF so will be doing it again tomorrow, which will be cd40 if AF doesn't show up by tomorrow morning.

I even dreamt of babies last night, dreamt me and DH were at a friends house having a BBQ and all our children were playing together. Woke up feeling all smug and happy. Brains are strange things.

Ain I think dieting takes a while to sink in. I know about 10 days into following slimming world, I went into work, had an awful day and my friend bought me a cookie. I ate it, then ate a slice of birthday cake then remembered I was meant to be dieting.
Now I don't keep sweets / biscuits anywhere near me because I just eat them without paying attention while I'm busy doing something else!
Just try cutting out the worse things and up your fruit and veg, and walk a little more (I take the stairs in work instead of the lift now) to start with. Every little helps when it comes to weight.

Fingers crossed for all the posters with positive OPKs

Rufus200 · 29/05/2015 11:17

Thanks for the support ladies, I'm about to board a flight home so no POAS until tomorrow morning now

DrewOB · 29/05/2015 11:43

I think this month has failed as well here :( Got all the right symptoms throughout the month, temperature stayed up for about a week and stopped today.
was waiting on the off chance before going back on Pill but I think there's no point :(

AbFab86 · 29/05/2015 12:12

Drew you're not out til you're out. Sometimes temperature dips on implantation. FX it's that :)

Rufus I'll be waiting with baited breath tomorrow morning! I've got a cupboard full of various brands of sensitive tests should the situation arise :) Hope you can get hold of a FRER or a superdrug test.

Pebbles086 · 29/05/2015 13:16

Thank gods it's Friday ladies!! Think I will have a little drink tonight. I have up booze for one month to help with conception etc, but I doubt it will happen to me for a long time so I might as well enjoy my life and not let this be the centre of my world, at least while things are out of my control.
abfab thanks for the advice, hope your scan goes well next month, the waiting is the worst part of all this!!
Lots of love to all you ladies, try have a nice weekend with your loved ones xxxxxxxx

Hello Ladies,

I recently joined mumsnet and found your thread but wanted to read it all the way through before posting. I hope you don’t mind me joining your thread …

I’m 29 and my dh has just turned 33 and we’ve been ttc since we married in Decmber 2013. I found out late last year that I have pcos (cycles range from 28-79 days) and dh found out in January that he has low motility. I finally had an appointment with the fertility clinic this morning where the nurse took my and dh’s history. Then she said I needed an HSG and more bloods but that would depend on when af came. Anyway, I got back home and af had started! I quickly rang the hospital and they booked me in for my HSG in just under two weeks. She said that I was really lucky and usually they are chocca but that people must be away over half term. I’m really pleased.

I’m really hoping when I go for my follow up appointment they will give me clomid but I’m worried that because of dh’s low motility they won’t.

Also, my BMI is 32 so the nurse said I should lose at least a stone but I started low GI a few weeks ago and I don’t seem to be shifting anything…Will they still give me clomid?

Also, Rufus, I think I can see 2nd lines Smile

Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone. Flowers

clmustard I'm not doing very well with these stats and peoples ages am I? lol At least I didn't add to your age! Grin All changed now! Sorry about the BFN- let us know how tomoz goes!

Shellbell No way! Spooky! How old are his DCs? My SDDs are 9 and 12! I have a fantastic relationship with them both and they are both desperate for Daddy and I to have a baby- too cute!

Mistletoe DH and I joke about stage freight too- it has happened before (when I was in the habit of telling him everything about ov and cm ) and we ended up rolling around on the bed in fits of laughter. Now I tend to keep the finer details to myself so he doesn't "feel the pressure" as much! With the 100mg clomid did you have a blood test to prove ov? What number did it show?

Popcorn Congrats on the promotion!! That's fab news! Have you been taking any medication this month to help with ov and ewcm etc? Do you plan to next cycle?

Pebbles Big ((hug)) from me too! I know how horrible it is having so many unknowns and not knowing what will happen or what will be discovered. The only thing we can do is try and stay calm, keep DTD and keep pushing for answers. Thinking of you x

Rufus The one on the right is definitely a line! and a pink line at that! I look forward to hearing your news tomoz morning with a FRER or similar!

Ab I would say that FF has got your ov wrong! It will depend on what you temp does in the next few days but I would say it should be on cd 15. It's only tentative crosshair at the moment though so it'd likely to change it. Keep DTD!

Drew! Hello stranger! I was only thinking about you the other day when I was doing the stats wondering where you were! Could you remind me of your stats please? Age? TTC#1?, are you on clomid? dosage? I'm just trying to keep the stats updated so everyone can keep track of each other easier. Sorry to hear you are feeling down! I hope you get some positive news soon Flowers

I'm planning a weekend of bottles ofwine, BBQs and junk food with friends and DH! You cannot beat a packed weekend when you are feeling a bit crappy! Have a lovely weekend all! xx

RoseBud2015 · 29/05/2015 14:11

Hello ShortyK!

The more the merrier!

Glad to hear that you now have a PCOS diagnosis and things are starting to move along at the fertility clinic! These are big steps on the road to your baby! Smile

We were discussing clomid and BMI a few days ago on this thread, and we haven;t really got a definitive answer for you. My consultant definitely told me that to prescribe me clomid my BMI had to be between 18 and 30 (mine was just 18 so I only just qualified!) but others don't seem to think it is a requirement at their clinic unless it is for IVF. I did some research online and some clinics specify a BMI below 35. So I think it just varies hugely between clinics.

Also when my DHs sperm count came back as low from his first sample, the clinic asked him to do a second sample to check it wasn't "a one off" Have your DH only had to do the one sample so far?

I've added you to the stats Smile >>> HERE

DrewOB · 29/05/2015 14:19

Hey, how are you?
I'm 29 and yes first try, following an unexpected early miscarriage 4 month ago. Since, another suspected early mc( the GP's opinion, I don't know what to think).
Currently no medical help as I have more or less regular periods every ~ 56 days.
