TTC with PCOS

Ainat266 · 15/03/2015 14:25

Are there any other ladies out there trying to conceive with PCOS? Or any success stories of conceiving with PCOS?

We've been ttc and off of bc since August. Since then I've been diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin. I am overweight, especially for my height as I'm only short - but am trying to lose the weight. I'm almost at a 10% weight loss since getting the PCOS diagnosis in November 14. I haven't had any periods since coming off of bc in August 14, apart from what I'm guessing was a withdrawal bleed (that happened pretty much straight away - end of August) and a couple of very light bleeds that lasted no longer than a day.

I'm just feeling all a bit fed up now and think I need to hear from others that are either in a similar boat or have been able to have healthy normal pregnancies despite the PCOS.

Inositol is wonderful stuff! It is natural, you need to take 2-4g or 2000mg-4000mg a day. I take 1g twice a day. If you go to the beginning of the thread I think there are loads of links about it.

Isit I'm a bit calmer thanks. Good luck when POAS x

mistletoeprickles · 27/05/2015 18:24

Just a quick one from me tonight....I'll catch up properly tomorrow.

Ab that's brilliant, get to it Grin

On another positive note.....I have a positive OPK too. DP actually did a little dance!

AbFab86 · 27/05/2015 18:54

Off to bed, knackered, but just wanted to say woohoo mistletoe! Did we decide we're on the same cycle at the moment? Today is cd15 for me. Eeek we might get our BFPs together! doing a good job of not getting carried away

Cobblestones · 27/05/2015 19:05

abfab mistletoe all the best!! So good to hear some positive stories. Smile

rosebud thanks for the details on follicle tracking

To answer your qs: I turned 31 last week; I haven't had any obvious signs of ov; no ovary pricking pain or any clear changes in ewcm.. So I'm worried the bloods are going to come back as negative

mistletoeprickles · 27/05/2015 19:58

Ab yes cd15. I really hope it's BFPS this month. I'm so ready for it now

Ain626 · 27/05/2015 20:15

rosebud I have a way to go to hit a bmi of 30. Sad

ab and mistletoe yay for hopefully ovulating. Get dtd and hopefully we'll have some BFP's on here!

PopcornPip · 27/05/2015 21:34

Hey guys, hope you are all well. Sorry for being AWOL, work's pretty much taking over my life at the moment.
Will catch up soon Grin

Ain626 · 27/05/2015 23:18

The more I think about my appointment the more scared I am getting. It's a month away! I'm scared that all they are going to say is 'lose more weight' and that will be that. I am overweight. I know that. And am working on it. I am currently a size 18... I was doing well. I have plateaued and am slipping back into bad habits without realising it, but have started trying really hard again.

Please calm me down. A month of driving myself this crazy isn't going to benefit me.

AbFab86 · 28/05/2015 04:38

Ain it seems like a massive hurdle because, when you look at it in one big go, it is! Whereas if you break it down into weekly chunks, it's perhaps not so bad. Every day you've had a 'good' day, you've won. If you manage to lose 2lbs a week between now and your appointment you'll have lost over half a stone, which is fantastic! But even if you manage to lose less, you are still moving closer to your goal. Keep a record of your weight every week then you'll be able to show them that you are losing weight.

How come they have a weight limit to clomid? Does it not work as well over certain BMIs?

Ain626 · 28/05/2015 07:52

ab thank you. X

I don't actually know if there is an upper weight limit for clomid, but I know there is for ivf if we end up on that route...

Yesterday I was having an emotional day. I'm going to hope that my emotional days and cramps the past few days are af about to put in an appearance. If so I would have had the closest thing to a normal cycle in months!

AbFab86 · 28/05/2015 08:24

Oh good! (Don't think any other thread would be happy for cramps and emotion!) I do hope that's AF on its way for you.

I feel very weird today! I'm a lot less tired than I have been all week, I'm really bloated and I'm completely wired. My boss just asked me if I'm on speed Grin Dead happy today too. My temperature was high this morning so I'm wondering if that shows ovulation, but then it's very soon indeed after a positive OPK. We DTD yesterday and the day before so hopefully we'd be covered, but didn't DTD for 2 days before that so hopefully it hasn't been too quick. Eeek bizarre! Definitely feeling like something is happening. Hope I'm not wrong!

Shellbell0403 · 28/05/2015 08:28

Ain626 you will do it ?? stay positive and strong!! You can do it ??

They told me I had to lose weight just incase it got to IVF as they have a bmi limit of 31?

Rosebud I have been trying since August! I know it's not asking as some people but we got married in August and I thought we might have been lucky on honeymoon!! He has two children from a previous relationship but I am just desperate for one of our own for our wee family! I'm 30 ??
How long have you all been trying?

Been for an initial consultation but waiting to see the actual consultant!

Off to see take that tonight so forgetting for a night!! Mind you... They did say no drink ?? xx

mistletoeprickles · 28/05/2015 09:50

I was told that my BMI had to be under 31 for clomid but I guess that varies for each PCT. If your showing commitment to losing weight I think they allow it. I'm only going on what I've been told though.

Ab I'm the same today. It's amazing how ovulation can lift a mood. For me it's the first time in nine months. DTD cd15 and cd13 and I'm aiming for today too.

RoseBud2015 · 28/05/2015 10:02

Sorry Rufus for some reason I had it in my head you were on 100mg clomid. I've changed it in the stats now. Is your clinic doing 21 day blood tests for you to check for ov? Do you mind me asking what number you got the time that clomid worked for you last cycle? I'm just interested to know the sort of figure it should be at- I keep getting a result of between 1 and 3!!! So extremely low.

Isit That's great that you are feeling so calm! Do you think that's because you have already decided to take a month off? Your blood test came back with a borderline result didn't it? Do they want to up your clomid dose will be upped again, or did 100mg work for you last cycle? 2 years is a long time to be ttc and I can only imagine how frustrating you must be feeling. Flowers

Cobblestones That's exactly how I felt! Didn't feel like it had had a big enough impact on my body. At least if the bloods come back as no ov, you can move onto the next cycle with 100mg clomid (with me Grin) But fingers crossed the 50mg is enough for you.

Popcorn! You are a busy bee!

Ain My clinic said a BMI of between 18 and 30 for clomid, but that doesn't mean they are all like that. I had a quick look online and some say up to a BMI of 35 for clomid. So I think it really does depend on the clinic! I know it's easy for me to say but try not to panic. Like Ab said it's much better to think of it as lots of little steps rather than one leap. Have you tried myfitnesspal or fitbit? They are both activity and calorie intake trackers. I have friends who are trying to lose weight and it seems to be helping them. I know it's harder when you have PCOS but it may be worth a go. Also as Rufus mentioned taking inositol may be worth a go too.
There are plenty of results here showing it's positive impact on women with PCOS PubMed

AbFab Smile it's so nice you being so positive and excited! It will be interesting to see what your opk today is like!

ShellBell You are almost identical to me! Same age, my DH has 2 children from a previous relationship too but we are desperate to have one of our own, and we've been trying since September so very similar to you! How old is your DH? Mine is 37 nearly 38, and his ex fall pregnant first time with both DDs....... I'm so Envy lol

Here are the updated stats >>> HERE

Ginfizz90 · 28/05/2015 10:07

Ab and mistletoe fingers crossed for you! Have you had any other signs or symptoms? I haven't managed to temp these last few days because I've had to wake up as totally different times to normal so it wouldn't be accurate.

I had positive opks 25th and very dark opk 26th. Ewcm Lots of cramping and funny pains "down there" and a recurring pain on the right side for 3 days. Sometimes actually quite painful. It's died down today though.

clmustard · 28/05/2015 10:58

Ginfizz that sounds positiveGrin

Rosebud thanks for the stats I particularly like the bit where you take 2 years off of my age Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin I was on cd32 when I posted. I am 34 in years.

clmustard · 28/05/2015 11:02

bugger that makes me on cd35 today I thougbt it was 36 getting ahead of myself

Shellbell0403 · 28/05/2015 12:01

Omg!!!

My hubby is 37 nearly 38 too and his ex fell pregnant straight away too!!! Very spooky!!

Xxx

mistletoeprickles · 28/05/2015 12:21

Finally having time to catch up properly, between work, a small child and DTD I'm shattered Grin

Gin what day are you on now? Everything you've described sounds really positive. The only signs I've had is the pain, it's mostly been on the right side but today I've got left side twinges too.

clmustard I'm the same with the clock ticking but like you I had to wait and now I'm 9 months on from when I came off the pill. To be fair this month is looking likely for ovulation which will be the first time in those 9 months so although we've been trying it doesn't feel like we've had a chance. I'm still very positive and I am going to get my BFP before August!

Isit any news?

I think it was ROse who mentioned stage fright, I spend quite some time mocking DP yesterday that the pressure was now on him. I've done what my body should and now its his turn. We do have the relationship where we can joke about these things but also where he's on hand with chocolate when I've turned a monster.

PopcornPip · 28/05/2015 13:06

Gin that sounds really positive! Hope you manage to take full advantage Smile
Rosebud I'm really not, I'm just super disorganised and things get on top of me. Haven't been able to dtd this month yet (I had some ewcm yesterday, hoping it continues another day or two). Due to start a new job next week (internal promotion) so I've been sidetracked with that. Hope things are ok with you!
Ain Keep up the good work - my doctor mentioned my weight but only because I brought it up first. FX you get a sensitive human being and a positive appointment Smile

Rufus200 · 28/05/2015 13:09

Rosebud I have never had a day 21 test, so sorry no values to give you. I am completely unmonitored this cycle!

I'm really excited for all the ladies that are showing signs of ovulating, good luck to you all

clmustard · 28/05/2015 16:34

I caved and tested again. BFN Sad I had convinced myself it would be +ve. Sore boobs, twinges, late according to my last cycle. Will test again sat if no af. Just told DH if af does show I am drinking my, considerable, body weight in rum...

mistletoeprickles · 28/05/2015 17:15

clmustard That's pants. What cd are you on? When do you think you ovulated? You could just be testing too early FX for you Thanks

Looks like my surge has been and gone. OPKS are fainter today

clmustard · 28/05/2015 18:04

cd35 or 36. I dont know when excactly I ovd but cm has dried up. could have been as late as 21st of the month. could still happen but looking less likely. wish af would just come if its going to

Pebbles086 · 28/05/2015 19:11

It's such a stressful times ladies, I really feel for you all and I hope BFP are on the horizon. Checking dates and doing tests is very very tiring not to mention a drain on your mental state. Keep going and you will get there in the end!
I had my GP appt just now, I have to have TVScan, as well as having PCOS my 1st scan showed a blockage in my Fallopian tube. I am absolutely gutted! Trying not to cry and put it to the back of my mind for now. When my time comes I know I'll get there in the end.
It's nice to be able to get that of my chest and not fee like I am alone xxx
