TTC with PCOS

Ainat266 · 15/03/2015 14:25

Are there any other ladies out there trying to conceive with PCOS? Or any success stories of conceiving with PCOS?

We've been ttc and off of bc since August. Since then I've been diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin. I am overweight, especially for my height as I'm only short - but am trying to lose the weight. I'm almost at a 10% weight loss since getting the PCOS diagnosis in November 14. I haven't had any periods since coming off of bc in August 14, apart from what I'm guessing was a withdrawal bleed (that happened pretty much straight away - end of August) and a couple of very light bleeds that lasted no longer than a day.

I'm just feeling all a bit fed up now and think I need to hear from others that are either in a similar boat or have been able to have healthy normal pregnancies despite the PCOS.

Gin that definitely looked like a positive test, but like Attila says they're not always reliable with PCOS. Still, take it as a good sign and DTD. I still use them fairly obsessively.

Hello clmustard! Sorry it's taken so long to get your PCOS diagnosis. Are your cycles fairly regular now? I know I'd be just like you and symptom spotting like mad if I was actually late :)

Welcome Pebbles! Glad you've joined us. I'm not too familiar (first-hand anyway) with the hoops that have to be jumped through in the UK but I hope it's a quick process for you.

Rosebud really sorry to hear 50mg hasn't worked :( Here's to 100mg doing the job! Thanks for doing the stats :) Try not to worry about the fluid on the scan. It's good they spotted it and hopefully it might just be a side-effect of starting clomid or something.

Ain I hope your birthday appointment is a great present! How long do you have to wait?

Still no positive OPK or any sort of ewcm. Temperature still the same as always. Day 14 today. Something possibly positive though is that I've felt like something has been going on in my ovaries today, particularly my left one. It hasn't been painful, but I've been able to feel it from time to time, which I usually can't. Hope it's doing something useful! Excited/nervous about my day 21 test a week today :)

mistletoeprickles · 26/05/2015 17:54

ab out of interest how long will you have to wait for you day 21 test results? I've been told my result won't be until the following Monday Sad

AbFab86 · 26/05/2015 18:10

They're usually pretty quick here. If I have a test in the morning they'll usually ring in the afternoon with the result, or at latest the next day. Saying that, I'll be having this test at a different hospital and it is much busier, so it may be longer. That's rubbish you have to wait til Monday! I'll be nervous for you!

Cobblestones · 26/05/2015 19:56

rosebud the stats were so helpful. Just to add I'm ttc #1, have been ttc feb 2014

Really hope the fluid was a one off and doesn't mean anything.

Similar to gin I don't know much about follicle tracking and plan to ask doc about it at next appointment. Would be great to hear more from you all on this

Cobblestones · 26/05/2015 20:00

Cd17 today. First cycle of clomid. The mid cycle constant cramping that started three days ago became more intense Yest but has eased off today.. I go for blood tests next Monday to see if 50mg has worked or not..

Ain626 · 26/05/2015 20:04

ab I have to wait a month. Appointment is on June 26th. Fingers crossed it goes well.

I have a month to try and get some more weight off. I have lost some already, but I am worried that all they are going to say is to lose more weight before they'll do anything...

Ladies on clomid, are any of you classed as obese by bmi? Sorry if that's too much of a personal question.

Shellbell0403 · 26/05/2015 22:05

Thanks ??

Just checked my calendar and I'm on day 90 ?? feel horrible today!! Hopefully appointment comes through from the consultant ASAP..

How's everyone else getting on? Xx

AbFab86 · 27/05/2015 05:03

Ain that's good news - a month isn't too long in the scheme of things (but can seem like forever!). Hope it flies by for you Smile My BMI is 24 so I'm classed as normal, though I do quite a lot of exercise etc.

Cobble it seems like there is a big variety of opinions of follicle tracking. Some doctors don't see it as necessary, others do. I had a scan on cd9 which showed a 12mm follicle, which is fairly inconclusive. Big enough not to be polycystic, too small (at that stage) to be released. That doctor didn't want to test again and my new doctor says he doesn't do it (although not sure how he can check then if overstimulation occurs?). The progesterone test is the only sure fire way of knowing if it has worked.

Rufus200 · 27/05/2015 08:37

GIN on my follicle tracking at my 1st scan I had two active follicles on both ovaries so 4 in total, all were 18mm, 3 days later 3 of them has regressed and I only 1 that had got to 22mm. That was lat cycle and that 1 follicle didn't give me a BFP. To be honest I found it quite upsetting that 3 follicles didn't grow, I had been very excited!

Rosebud thank you for doing that stats, unfortunately I am now 34

AbFab86 · 27/05/2015 08:48

Oh my god they can regress?! Argh didn't know that. How do people ever get pregnant?? What cd was your scan on Rufus?

I won a spa day for 2 at the Atlantis hotel (on Palm Island) this morning. That should help us de-stress if this cycle of clomid doesn't work Smile DH is going for his SA on Sunday. It's my birthday - weird sort of present!

Cobblestones · 27/05/2015 09:06

Rufus does they mean they kept you on the 50mg as the last cycle was your first? My stand on this is that the more info we have on how our own systems work the better.. So while this may not sound too soothing that it didn't turn into a bfp, there is consolation in knowing that clomid worked for you and that the next cycle can be it.. My biggest worry is that I won't respond to the meds and I'll be out of options.

ab wow that's great!! You were only just wondering how to de stress and voila! Enjoy! :)

Cobblestones · 27/05/2015 09:08

Oh and my bmi is average too but I do constantly have to watch my intake and if I let go for a bit I tend to put on weight easily

Ain626 · 27/05/2015 09:15

I put on weight ridiculously easily, and until I got the PCOS diagnosis I had no idea why. I used to be nice and slim and then put on loads of weight quite quickly despite the fact that I was exercising and eating healthily. Made the mistake of thinking 'fuck it, I'm putting on weight anyway, might as well eat what the fuck I want'. Totally wrong attitude to have, but at the time I was going through a really tough time and comfort eating. Cue major explosion of gaining weight. I now have some comfort in that I understand the different events that have led up to this, but am really struggling with losing weight. Going to try and be much stricter this month leading up to the appointment...

Shell how you feeling? Flowers

RoseBud2015 · 27/05/2015 10:08

clmustard Wow! You have been on one hell of a journey so far, haven't you?! Have your cycles settled into a pattern now or are they like most of us and all over the place? Were you given any medication to help you conceive DC1?

Ain Clomid as a Birthday present would be fab! Glad you went for the "good" clinic and things are now moving in the right direction!
I have skinny PCOS (BMI of 18) which is why metformin would have had no effect on me. I know that my fertility clinic needs your BMI to be between 18 and 30 for them to prescribe clomid. Are you far off? x

Pebbles YES! The age old question of "do you think you and DH will ever have kids?" "It'll be your turn next" "The clock is ticking"..... makes me want to punch people in the face! If only people had a little more thought before they spoke. Definitely keep us updated on how you are getting on- when its your appointment with your GP?

Mistletoe what CD are you on? Have you found the side effects much more severe on 100mg compared to 50mg? Your blood results shouldn't take over a week! That's so annoying! Keeping my fingers firmly crossed for you!

Cobblestones So with the follicle tracking, it's basically a probe that they insert into you so that they can measure the thickness of the uterus lining, and size and shape of the ovaries, and how many follicles are on each ovary. If there are enlarged follicles they will also measure the size of these. They are looking for them to be at least 12mm-15mm, as this suggests the follicle is on its way to releasing an egg. The follicle usually releases an egg at around 20mm, and follicles grow 2mm a day if they are maturing properly. But as Rufus said, just because follicles are enlarged does not mean they will definitely release an egg! They may not mature enough for that. So a 21 day blood test has to be carried out to be sure that ov has happened. But obviously for me the blood test isn't necessary because there are no enlarged follicles!
I think the advantage of being offered the scans is that you are being monitored closely for signs of OHSS, and they can pin point when a mature follicle is likely to release an egg so you can be make sure you DTD enough around that time. It also puts you out of your misery sooner if, like me, it doesn't work! How old are you? (for the stats, and because I'm nosey!) Have you had any signs of ov?

RoseBud2015 · 27/05/2015 10:13

Shellbell The long cycles are awful aren't they?! Physically they are hard, and mentally they are so draining! I really feel for you. How long have you been waiting for your referral? Have you been ttc long? How old are you?

Abfab Congrats on the prize! I bloody love that place!! DH and I were running around the waterpark like little kids at Christmas time- I would love to go back! How do you find living in Dubai? DH has job opportunities to be moved out there for 6 months to a year and I think we would love it, but just wondered if the reality is quite different?

IsIt Hope you are ok? Flowers

AbFab86 · 27/05/2015 15:07

Cobblestones and Ain I am exactly the same. The minute I stop exercising and look at a cake, I'm a stone heavier! It's very difficult to drop weight too, but I've got it under control now.

Shell sorry you're not feeling so good :( Really hope you get your appointment soon!

Rosebud I actually grew up here (well, from 12-19 anyway) so it is quite normal for me. That said, the place has changed unbelievably so in the last 9 years since I left. I do like it. It's a very nice life, obviously the weather is always great, but it's a hectic life. It's such a busy place now and everywhere (roads, malls etc) is always rammed with people. We will be here for a few years then move back to set down some roots for the first time in almost 30 years! I think if you get the chance to come here short-term I'd go for it. It's always nice to see what it's like to live somewhere else, especially if an employer is footing the bill!

How are our other ladies getting on?? Haven't seen ponty around in a while. There are more but my brain is mush at the moment.

AbFab86 · 27/05/2015 15:17

Ok so I don't want to get excited prematurely, but I came home from work today and POAS (OPK). It was quite dilute because I'd been drinking a can of diet coke on the journey home (bad for me I know!). Anyway, the line started appeared immediately in front of my eyes. It's never done that before! I always get a faint line because of the background LH, but I've never ever had one that has gone like this! Got ridiculously excited, took loads of photos to send to DH, but then called him without sending any :D

I know there can definitely be false surges, and that the presence of LH does not always mean you will ovulate, but I am cd15 today, my left ovary has been twinging for the last 2 days and if the 12mm follicle grew the 'normal' 2mm a day it would now be perfectly big enough to go pop! So if all of those things are true/real, then there's every chance I may be about to ovulate! And I am ridiculously giddy. I have been temping so I will see how that goes.

Minor downside - it's our weekend starting tomorrow evening and as it's my birthday on Sunday I have ended up with 2 dinners out this weekend...both all you can eat and drink buffets! I really don't want a hangover so hopefully this will keep me from drinking too much :D

TTC with PCOS
RoseBud2015 · 27/05/2015 15:37

Abfab Shock That's very very positive and along with your other signs I would say this could be it for you!!! Eek!! I imagine if you are going to ov, it will be in the next 24-48 hours so if it were me I would DTD today, tomorrow and Friday. Then leave Saturday and then once more for luck on Sunday. I'm pretty sure that's what the SMEP says and that seems to be successful for a lot of ladies- all systems go for you!!! Hope your DH is ready! Wink

Wouldn't it be the best if you conceived around your Birthday!? Best Birthday present ever......... not getting ahead of myself at all! Hmm

AbFab86 · 27/05/2015 15:47

Hahaha oh my god why hadn't I thought of that?! Jesus I must be getting tired if my mind isn't automatically jumping to things like that! I've informed DH on the phone that we will be DTD every day for the next few days. He said not to say things like that to him when he's stood by the photocopier in the staff room Grin Hah imagine realising you were born 9 months after your mum's birthday!

RoseBud2015 · 27/05/2015 15:49

Pahaha! Love it! Grin So excited for you! Lets hope he doesn't get stage fright! Wink

Rufus200 · 27/05/2015 17:36

My 1st scan was CD 13 and my 2nd was CD16 and I had LH surge CD17. This is my 2nd cycle on 50mg, they won't increase dosage if your ovaries show they are working on a dose.

AbFab that is def a positive, my only advice after having lots of false LH surges myself is to keep on testing for the next week and go for it everytime you get one! Congrats on your prize!

I'm on CD 25 now and both boobs go through periods of throbbing for no reason, it feels like they have been punched a few minutes before and have that horrible after ache.

Also for all the new ladies who have joined who might not have read the now 26 pages, most of us on here are taking Inositol to help regulate blood sugar.

IsItIorAreTheOthersCrazy · 27/05/2015 18:01

Fingers crossed for you AbFab

I'm on cd37 with no AF and no symptoms. It will be day 40 on Saturday so if nothing by then I'm going to have to POAS again. I'm strangely calm, am freaking myself out slightly - I'm not obsessing over dtd, temps and examining every stomach twinge. Its a bit worrying after thinking of nothing else for months and months.

Have also looked at stats and I'm the longest trying poster I think (although start date is a little off - been trying since June 2013. So 2 years (exactly in 3 weeks). Am losing momentum now, I'm hoping the month off kick starts me again!

Anyway, how are we all doing? Smile

IsItIorAreTheOthersCrazy · 27/05/2015 18:03

rufus I hope the awful hormonal phase is passing now? Flowers

clmustard · 27/05/2015 18:13

abfab thats AB FAB crossed fingers for you.

rufus. I hope you dont mind me asking what is that blood sugar regulator and how does it help. I was prescribed dianette to help me regulate my cycles at diagnosis but it sent me a little mental. so I have taken the "suck it up" approach to my PCOS (otherwise known as utter denial!)

I dont feel like its been a hell of a ttc journey as we concieved quickly when trying first time round but I feel like I have spent my entire life waiting to ttc. As soon as I suspected fertility issues my body clock started screaming at me. 5 years later we ttcd and got d1d fairly quickly. FF another 5 years and I had to wait nearly again for various reasons before trying.

clmustard · 27/05/2015 18:15

ironically the family infertility has been caused by lack of lh. maybe the pcos just balances me out in that way
