TTC with PCOS

Are there any other ladies out there trying to conceive with PCOS? Or any success stories of conceiving with PCOS?

We've been ttc and off of bc since August. Since then I've been diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin. I am overweight, especially for my height as I'm only short - but am trying to lose the weight. I'm almost at a 10% weight loss since getting the PCOS diagnosis in November 14. I haven't had any periods since coming off of bc in August 14, apart from what I'm guessing was a withdrawal bleed (that happened pretty much straight away - end of August) and a couple of very light bleeds that lasted no longer than a day.

I'm just feeling all a bit fed up now and think I need to hear from others that are either in a similar boat or have been able to have healthy normal pregnancies despite the PCOS.

Mistletoe the whole CM thing really grosses me out. I'm not a prude or anything but any sort of mucus, regardless of the orifice it is emerging from, makes me want to wretch. I went on that site that has pictures of each type so I could see what I need to be looking for....never again! Bleurrrghhh! I'll just go with the idea that clomid dries up cm so won't check Grin

Cobblestones · 25/05/2015 13:21

Abfab I just read your post. Wow which part of the world are you in?

I guess the key is to stay busy. I wasn't working until earlier this month.. and I was constantly obsessing over this.. and felt like I was going into depression. but i can handle my situation a lot better with something else to occupy my mind with..

but suggestions for de-stressing very much welcome here

AbFab86 · 25/05/2015 15:59

I'm in Dubai. It's not a very sociable temperature this time of year!

I definitely agree staying busy is the key. As soon as I start to let my mind wander at work I a) am consumed with thoughts of not being able to get pregnant and b) get no work done! Useless all round :)

Ginfizz90 · 25/05/2015 23:59

Been so moody all day that AF hasn't made an appearance yet having lots of cramps. Decided to do an opk and looks pretty dark to me? The test line is darker than the bloody control line. I'm CD29 would you think this is positive or just my body LH surging but not popping out any eggs! So confuesed and fed up with this.

Ain626 · 26/05/2015 00:14

gin it looks like a positive test to me. Opks only predict ovulation based on lh surge. I would say you have definitely had a surge, though that doesn't definitely mean ovulation. I hope the surge does mean you have popped out an egg though.

The hospitals are all in Berkshire. The only thing I really know about them is the overall rating in the ofsted style ratings. The closest hospital has 'inadequate' and the next one has 'good'. So logic says go for the good one.. But knowing that ofsted for schools doesn't always give the full picture I'm assuming the same is true for hospital inspections.

The next appointment at the good one is on my birthday...

AttilaTheMeerkat · 26/05/2015 07:35

OPKs and PCOS are very uneasy bedfellows; I would refrain from actually using OPKs at all if PCOS is present. You'd be far better off having blood tests done regularly instead to see what the various hormone levels are like.

These kits anyway work on two misleading principles; namely that there is only one LH surge each month and that such a surge is automatically followed by ovulation; both of these are simply not true.

clmustard · 26/05/2015 08:49

Hi, hope you dont mind me joining in. I am 1st cycle (if you can call it that) cd32 ttc#2. I was miraculously lucky 1st time round. Very nervous this time. dd is 6. I am a poas addict I am already 4 down!

Rufus200 · 26/05/2015 09:25

GIN looks positive to me, DTD just in case that is a late ovulation!

Ain I would take the good hospital! You know how bad the NHS can be and for a hospital to get inadequate I would be wary! Does it say which Dr you get for an appointment that you can google them?

Rufus200 · 26/05/2015 09:27

Ladies I would just like to say thank you for all your support and what a lovely thread this is. It is so nice to know that you are not alone and that there are very knowledgeable ladies on here to ask advice from xxx

Ginfizz90 · 26/05/2015 10:13

Attilla, thanks for knocking sense into me! I know all this stuff, just can't resist sometimes!!

Pebbles086 · 26/05/2015 13:43

Hello Ladies, I have found this thread very useful, so taking a plunge to join!

I am 28 and TTC #1 since getting married and coming of my pill in Aug last year. After having AF every month till Dec when they suddenly vanished, I have been the GP a few times.
Bloods and a scan now confirm PCOS, so I am back to the GP this week. I am hoping the Doc will give me something to start AF again and hopefully Clomid. Anyone know if I will have to jump through more hoops I.e more tests or waiting? DH has had bloods and all is normal, will he have to have a sperm test done before I will be given any meds? Confused not sure how much more of this patience game I can play!!
Best wishes to all you ladies you find themselves in this unfortunate position

Xxx

RoseBud2015 · 26/05/2015 14:25

Cobblestones Sorry to hear about your mmc Flowers I have also had PCOS since I was a teenager and have never had a "real AF" that wasn't caused by the pill or progesterone tablets! Makes me so Angry and Sad What CD are you on? Do you think the clomid is working for you this cycle?

Ain Woo hoo for your referral letter! Smile Finally!!! I would mirror what others have said and would go for the good clinic that is further away! As I'm sure Ab will tell you, there is nothing worst than a shit clinic/doctor.... so improve your chances and go for the one with better reviews!

Mistletoe any news on your opks? Are they continuing to get darker?

Isit sorry for the BFN Flowers I can completely understand why you have decided to take a month off and not waste the clomid. Maybe a month without the pressure will work wonders- there seem to be plenty of similar stories on here, so you never know! Wishing you luck in the coming weeks xx

Shellbell Welcome!! I tried getting progesterone from my doctor to induce a bleed but they said they wouldn't do it until AF had been missing for 6 months. 2 weeks later at my first fertility clinic appointment I was prescribed it on the spot alongside clomid! So, you could try your doctor but don't be too disheartened if they refuse.

Rufus Too early to POAS but I know we are all guilty of it! Give it a few more days and see how you feel! I have a good feeling about you! xxx

Gin I'm hoping you DTD a few times with that LH surge! I have opk envy Envy I know it doesn't necessarily mean anything for us PCOS ladies- but there's no harm in trying, right??!! Grin

Welcome clmustard and pebbles! clmustard Did you conceive on your first round of clomid last time or naturally? Whereabouts are you in your cycle at the moment?

Pebbles Unfortunately you have quite a few hoops to jump through, although it sounds like you are nearly there based on my experiences! So for me because I was already diagnosed with PCOS, once I had been trying over 6 months with no luck and no AF, I had the ultrasound, trans-vaginal scan and blood tests, and DH had his sperm sample analysed. Then I had to have another blood test and another sperm sample analysis done once we had been referred to the fertility clinic by our GP. The fertility consultant also tested me for chlamydia anti bodies and STIs. Once all those tests came back as clear, I was given progesterone to induce a bleed and clomid!! So I would recommend you push for a referral now- how long have you been ttc?

RoseBud2015 · 26/05/2015 14:31

As for me......

I had my second follicle tracking scan today... and it wasn't good news! No follicles at all that are over 6mm, so the 50mg clomid has not worked Sad

Just to add extra worry to the mix, the sonographer found fluid on my endometrium which shouldn't be there! She couldn't explain what is was but said that is could stop an egg from implanting. However as I'm not ov'ing yet, she would consult the doctor and they would be in touch. In the meantime I need to give my body a couple of weeks to recover and then start Provera to bring on another bleed. Then I start 100mg clomid.

Feeling pretty shitty that I have to start this whole stupid process over again, but I suppose I am one step closer to my baby- lets just hope there aren't too many more steps!

RoseBud2015 · 26/05/2015 14:34

Also tell me to but out if you like Ain but I've noticed we haven't had stats for a while. Would you lot mind if I do them? I'm on half term and have very little plans so plenty of time to set them up Smile

As there are more of us now, it would be nice to see where we all are on this bumpy journey.

Ginfizz90 · 26/05/2015 14:45

No harm in doing another this afternoon is there lol? It's even darker than last nights. I know it could mean absolutely nothing but ive never really any positive before

TTC with PCOS
AbFab86 · 26/05/2015 14:46

Just a quick one (sat in the car waiting for DH in the supermarket) but feel free to do the stats if you like Smile I haven't updated it in too long and a few of us are on different medication now. My only change is clomid (50mg).

Ginfizz90 · 26/05/2015 14:47

Rosebud sorry to hear that, I hope 100mg is lucky for you. Least you know what to expect for the next time.

clmustard · 26/05/2015 15:10

Hi. With DD I was fairly obsessive right from the off cm tracking, opking, temping, diet changes, you name it. we managed to concieve naturally (if you can call it that given my obsessive behaviour). I had come off the pill 4 years prior to ttc for tests as some hereditary fertility problems (not PCOS) are in my family. It took a year and a half for my periods to come back and then it was fairly intermittent.

It took 1 dc and 8 and a half years to finally get a PCOS diagnosis because my hormone markers we close to normal. The consultant diagnosed me eventually because I have all of the other symptoms. Weight issues, irrattic periods, adult acne, stray hairs, periods of head hair loss and scans show several cysts on my ovaries.

We were supposed to be trying from October last l
year but I developed some gaatric issues. finally got the all clear at the beginning of march and have been trying since.

I have been largely, not completely but largely, in control of my tracking habits and have been trying to be bit more casual. but then I hit cd 28, no period and have been testing and symtom spotting and litterally dreaming of bfps ever since...

RoseBud2015 · 26/05/2015 15:27

I hope this works! Let me know if I have any information wrong for any of you, or anything missing that you would like me to add! Smile

STATS!!!

RoseBud2015 · 26/05/2015 15:28

Yay! It works- I'm so proud of myself! I've never managed to do that before! Small things..... Smile

clmustard · 26/05/2015 15:28

Blimey that was quick! thank you for adding me!

Ain626 · 26/05/2015 15:41

rosebud sorry to hear the clomid didn't work, but I have my fingers crossed that 100mg will!
And well done on the spreadsheet. Grin

I've booked an appointment at the 'good' hospital. Annoyingly - on my birthday. Who knows, maybe I'll get clomid or something as a birthday present...

Pebbles086 · 26/05/2015 15:55

rosebud thanks for the reply!
We've been trying since Aug 2014. Feels like a lot longer though! It's awful when you get married and people start asking when you will have a child.
As if this isn't stressful enough ??.
My Gp has been really good up to now, I didn't go to her till March with regards to my lack of AF and already she has sent me for the scan, that was done 2 weeks ago so just hoping she will have the full report from it when I go on Thursday.
I will keep you updated, if that is ok?

I hope your Clomid works very soon!
Xx

mistletoeprickles · 26/05/2015 17:22

gin looks really good. I'm slightly jealous. I'm nowhere near that.

Welcome pebbles feel free to keep us updated and ask any questions.

ain everything crossed for your appointment.

rose I felt exactly the same when I found out 50mg hadn't worked. I'm hoping 100mg has done the trick but if not its on to 100mg next month. I'm trying my hardest to stay positive.

I've just done today OPK and it's getting darker but nowhere near darker enough. I've had an awful lot of pinching pain in the last 24 hours though so we're on did every other day at the moment. I don't want to risk missing it

Ginfizz90 · 26/05/2015 17:25

So for the ladies who are doing follicle tracking with clomid... How does it work exactly?
Do follicles mature in both ovaries and the largest one then releases? Or is it just one ovary that gets any mature follicles. I'm clueless xx
