TTC with PCOS

Ainat266 · 15/03/2015 14:25

Are there any other ladies out there trying to conceive with PCOS? Or any success stories of conceiving with PCOS?

We've been ttc and off of bc since August. Since then I've been diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin. I am overweight, especially for my height as I'm only short - but am trying to lose the weight. I'm almost at a 10% weight loss since getting the PCOS diagnosis in November 14. I haven't had any periods since coming off of bc in August 14, apart from what I'm guessing was a withdrawal bleed (that happened pretty much straight away - end of August) and a couple of very light bleeds that lasted no longer than a day.

I'm just feeling all a bit fed up now and think I need to hear from others that are either in a similar boat or have been able to have healthy normal pregnancies despite the PCOS.

Hi, I have PCOS but my bmi is 19.5 so I cant really loose any weight and i'm size 8. been trying to ttc for 15 months, my gp refered me to the fertility clinic in Queen Mary's Hospital and they are putting me on Clomid. They said that my hormone levels are fine, my cycle was very irregular when I came off the pill but the last 3 months i've had a 42 days cycle, I was wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation as me?

Good Luck :) xxx

I know - I'm so excited! Not many people who are TTC would consider a period as a good sign but I definitely do! I wonder if it's the inositol? Been taking it a couple of weeks now....

Ginfizz90 · 16/04/2015 20:33

Sounds like it could be bucket. How exciting!!!

PontyGirl · 17/04/2015 08:04

drew sounds like a good plan, be proactive and get the answers you need!

bucket I will be thrilled if it is the inositol... I'm waiting on my period after def ov' ing for the first time in forever this month and I think it's down to the inositol, so it will be interesting to see if the same happens next month!

Rosie welcome! that all sounds really positive! 42 day cycles are not that bad at all for pcos. I think the clomid will be great for you. fx!

Rufus200 · 17/04/2015 10:07

Still no LH surge CD15 Confused, I'm normally on my 2nd LH surge by now. Must be that my previous 1st LH surge really is a false one and possibly my 2nd and that is where I have been going wrong! Both ovaries are very uncomfortable but no ovulation type pain yet.

Rosie I'm on my 1st cycle of clomid, seems to be making a difference so far, good luck.

PopcornPip · 17/04/2015 13:07

Welcome rosie Smile
Congrats bucket that's great news!

One of the things I struggle with is the contradiction between being grateful for actually having a period and then also being sad and disappointed at the same time! I've been talking a lot with a colleague who is 20 wks pg. She said they dtd 6 days straight for the days leading up to ovulation and the day after. It's her second and it's taken them longer this time round.

Think my OH has a busy weekend ahead!

Rufus200 · 18/04/2015 11:22

Having a mini pity party for one this morning. I should be thrilled as my scan showed I have one follicle but part of me is grieving for the other 3 that didn't grow. Also as each egg only gives you a 25% chance I was hoping the 4 was pretty much a guarantee! Still no LH surge but based on my scan should be Tuesday at the latest.

Now knowing what follicle covered ovaries feel like, I know I didn't ovulate on cycle 2 or 3 as I had the same feeling on cycle 1 with no drugs. So all my LH surges must have been false positives last cycle!

I have lost all respect for my Dr this morning who said some pretty stupid things to me. My AMH was 11 last year, as it measures your egg reserves it can't go up but can artificially be increased by PCOS, so my level has gone off the chart and the Dr actually said it was brilliant news because it meant I had loads of eggs left. I was like no that is an artificial level and my real level will be 11 or lower, the Dr couldn't grasp that. Then I was told next cycle to go back to natural and bin the clomid based on my AMH. I will firmly ignore this and at this point I was thinking you don't actually know what you are talking about! Then the Dr went to do an internal scan and I said does the condom have spermicide on it, and the Dr was like err I don't know. How can a Dr who scans follicles regularly not think about that maybe the stuff they are putting into their patients may be killing any chance of them getting pregnant! Also didn't have anything other ky jelly which is spermicidal so now I have to try and wash it all out! The parting comment from the Dr when I left was that 50% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage so don't get my hopes up too much and wait till I'm at least 7 weeks before contacting them!!!

PopcornPip · 18/04/2015 15:38

rufus that's awful conduct from your gp, can you see someone else next time? It sounds like they really don't know what they're doing.
Definitely allow yourself time to grieve and process everything that's going on. We can only cope with so much at one time Flowers

PontyGirl · 18/04/2015 16:26

Rufus I'm sorry your Dr was such an arse. I def second seeing someone else next time! what a load of bollocks. don't feel discouraged!

DrewOB · 18/04/2015 16:36

U/s confirmed not preg. Also clearly saw bilateral pco, back to gp then

Rufus200 · 18/04/2015 16:58

Drew so sorry, big hugs

It wasn't a GP! It was a specialist that said all that to me today! I have thrown the pity away and now full love and support to my one egg. Had really bad stabbing pain at lunchtime but still no LH surge but OPK had a nearly there line this afternoon so decided to go for it just incase something happened to my follicle!

Can follicles burst before you are supposed to ovulate?

Rufus200 · 19/04/2015 13:53

Finally had my LH surge this morning.

AbFab86 · 19/04/2015 17:01

Rufus it only takes one little follicle and one tiny sperm Smile Everything crossed for you now you've had your surge. I'm on cd13 and no surge yet. Really hoping I end up having a shorter cycle this time. 30 days rather than 120 would be nice Smile

How is everyone else getting on? Gin I'm sorry to hear about your scan Sad I hope now they can move forward with treatment for you.

AbFab86 · 19/04/2015 17:02

Sorry meant Drew, not Gin!

Rosieblossom123 · 19/04/2015 17:58

Thanks all for your positive posts I am really hoping and praying clomid works for me! I don't know about you girls but it feels like as soon as my DH and I ttc its all I think about now, 24/7 on my mind doesn't help when I see pregnant women either Smile haha it makes me want this even more!! Baby dust to you all Star xx

PontyGirl · 19/04/2015 21:02

hope everyone is okay!

I'm 14dpo, just waiting on AF now, def not pregnant but I'm more keen to see what my next cycle is like, whether this month was just a fluke or if the inositol is indeed working!

Ginfizz90 · 19/04/2015 21:04

How long did you guys take the inositol before it started taking effect?

PontyGirl · 19/04/2015 21:47

gin this was my first month taking it. which is why I want to see if it works for me next cycle too! I can't remember who else was taking it on this thread, but it definitely had some effect! I take it with folic acid, all the studies suggest that is most effective

Rufus200 · 19/04/2015 22:15

Gin I started inositol beginning of December started to see change mid February.

Ginfizz90 · 19/04/2015 23:12

I just increased my dosage to 4g a day. All going well so far expect lots of wind lol!! Sorry TMI. Did anybody else get this? Did you notice a change in your metabolism? I really want to lose a few pounds and I'm finding it near impossible

AbFab86 · 20/04/2015 12:31

Oh my god I think I just got the go-ahead to start clomid!!

I emailed my gynaecologist asking if I need to go in for 21 day bloods and whether I'd be looking at starting clomid after the summer so I could make sure I'm at home (rather than travelling) for the necessary scans. She replied saying yes come in for day 21 bloods and that I would need to book scans for days 7, 9 and 11 of my next cycle after the clomid! Arghh! I hope she remembers who I am and that answer wasn't meant for someone else Grin

So now I've got my day 21 next Monday, then I'll wait a bit and see if I get a period after that. If not I'll probably take the progesterone again and start a new cycle for clomid on day 2 onwards. Argh it just got a bit real!

bucketfullofwater · 20/04/2015 17:02

Can I take a moment to wallow in a tub of self pity please (I know I shouldn't)? A third person I work with has just announced they're expecting a baby, that makes three in my department (therefore see every day). Obviously I'm really really happy for them all but I've been on the edge of tears all day and will probably crumble when I get home. I can hear them at the moment all talking baby stuff - so so hard!

Edit: just realised that sounds proper whiny - sorry!

AbFab that's fantastic news, so glad you have an on the ball doctor

Rufus200 · 20/04/2015 17:15

bucket big hugs not whiny at all. Maybe on a positive all those hormones might have an effect on you.

AbFab that is great news, good luck. The only thing I would say is that your scans sound a little bit early in your cycle as you don't have regular cycles. The last scan needs to be close to ovulation so that they can see how many follicles have continued to grow. CD 13 I had 4 follicles, CD 16 I only had 1 left. If your last scan is CD 11 then they won't know if any of your follicles continued maturing.

RoseBud2015 · 20/04/2015 17:39

Hi all,

Sorry for the lack of posts lately.... honestly I've been finding things SO tough lately! Sad But I'm going to pull myself together and catch up now!

Rosie Hi! That's great to hear that you have been given clomid. It will be interesting to hear about each of our experiences of these different treatments as we all move along in our hopefully soon to end journeys! Keep us updated on progress, wont you?!

Bucket Congrats about AF!! I would give ANYTHING to see AF right now. I think I would have a whole bottle of wine or 2 to celebrate! CD85 for me and I'm getting Angry at my body for being so shite. Oh, and I completely understand what you mean about being on the verge of bursting into tears..... I have been feeling like that for weeks. And it was topped off by being on a hen do yesterday with 2 pregnant women discussing their pregnancies throughout it. I was so Envy and Sad!!

Rufus Your specialist sounds totally shit! How can they possible know less than us ladies when they have been studying medicine for years and are gynae "experts" Hmm. Maybe some of us should leave teaching and become doctors! Wink Yay for your surge though- dtd-a-thon for you! Lucky DH! Wink

Drew sorry you didn't get the result you were hoping for Flowers At least now you can push your GP to investigate and give you some answers rather than palm you off! I hope you get some answers soon!

Ab THIS is SO exciting!!! Very happy for you! You and Rosie can be clomid buddies!

RoseBud2015 · 20/04/2015 17:45

As for me,

The good news is......I finally got my referral appointment through the post this morning. Only waited 12 weeks for the letter (with one lost referral idiots Hmm)

The bad news is...... my appointment isn't until July!!!

Phoned DH is tears yet again, and he convinced me to phone up and beg for a cancellation if one was available. Well you will never guess what........................................ I GOT ONE FOR THIS THURSDAY!!!!! [happy] [happy] [happy] So so pleased. Just hope we start to get some answers now. Have booked in to have my Rubella blood test and chlamydia urine test which the clinic have asked for in advance (along with SA, prog bloods etc which we have already done)

Finally we seem to be moving somewhere!
