TTC with PCOS

Ainat266 · 15/03/2015 14:25

Are there any other ladies out there trying to conceive with PCOS? Or any success stories of conceiving with PCOS?

We've been ttc and off of bc since August. Since then I've been diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin. I am overweight, especially for my height as I'm only short - but am trying to lose the weight. I'm almost at a 10% weight loss since getting the PCOS diagnosis in November 14. I haven't had any periods since coming off of bc in August 14, apart from what I'm guessing was a withdrawal bleed (that happened pretty much straight away - end of August) and a couple of very light bleeds that lasted no longer than a day.

I'm just feeling all a bit fed up now and think I need to hear from others that are either in a similar boat or have been able to have healthy normal pregnancies despite the PCOS.

Hi everyone,

I've got my gp appointment tonight following my ultrasound. I guess all she will say is that she will refer me to a gynaecologist. So frustrating that I will then have to wait another few months for a gynae appointment!!

Finished my last session of acupuncture last night-I would love to say it helped but I'm not so sure and it was so expensive.

Sorry for the depressing post! Trying to stay positive but struggling at the moment!! Currently on cd 247. Suppose the good news only 4 more months and I hit the year of trying so they can start fertility investigations. Grin

PopcornPip · 14/04/2015 08:57

Hey msr that is good news Smile. What time is your appt?

Msr12 · 14/04/2015 09:12

It's at 5:50. Managed to book one of the fought over after work slots Grin

PontyGirl · 14/04/2015 10:05

hi all!

hope the marking isn't too soul destroying Eskimo

good luck for later msr let us know how you get on! I am reaaaally interested in the acupuncture stuff so let me know if it does make any difference!

PopcornPip · 14/04/2015 10:06

Well done, those are great! Smile
Good luck, I'm sure it'll be fine. I found it useful to take a notepad last time I went so I could make notes and remember my questions.

Msr12 · 14/04/2015 18:39

Ok so just got back. No referral yet-have to go see another gp at the practice next week (who used to be a gynae apparently) to discuss the scan and see if I am happy to try metformin. I remember reading some of you are on this already-any advice? Side effects?

PontyGirl · 14/04/2015 21:44

well that sounds promising! my gp (who has just left Sad ) used to be a gynae and she was FANTASTIC so fx you have a similar experience next week. I'm not on metformin but have heard mixed reviews - it seems to have helped loads of women conceive but it gives some women dodgy tummies I think? I def think its worth a try. talk through the side effects with the gp and make your decision Smile

AbFab86 · 15/04/2015 06:48

Hope everyone is ok and that the teachers amongst us are getting back into the swing of things at school.

Drew try not to think the worst. Our deranged hormones cause all sorts of aches and pains in places 'normal' people don't get them. I hope you can get referred for an ultrasound soon to put your mind at rest.

eskimo good luck to your DH with his sample today Smile Hope it's not too weird for him (although sod stuff being weird for them, they never have to sit with their feet in stirrups and a dildocam inserted whilst maintaining eye-contact wig the stranger holding it).

Msr day 247?!? Jeysus!! I'm very glad you're able to see the positive side though - roll on medical assistance! Does your doctor know you have had a 247 day cycle or could you go and exaggerate a bit and say you've been trying a year? I have been on metformin since I was 16 and only had mild side effects for the first couple of days. I think most GPs in the UK prescribe the slow release stuff, which is milder on your stomach. It has worked very well indeed for my insulin resistance and most of the other side-effects of PCOS. My new endocrinologist is certain it will help me start ovulating properly, but I've been on it alongside the pill for 12 years and I'm not ovulating as normal now it seems, so we will see. I'd definitely say it's worth a shot, we don't have too many other options!

Not much to update from me. AF has gone so have been DTD every other day and have told DH that is my sole plan for the weekend Grin If I had a normal cycle I should ovulate on Sunday/Monday so I'm pretending I do, just in case. I've also been temping and it has been fairly consistent for the last couple of days so I'll see how that pans out. I may or may not have smuggled a couple of OPKs and a pot into school to do during the day Blush I'm wondering if it will show a dark line if I do have a surge, because otherwise it's just always a faint one.

DrewOB · 15/04/2015 07:00

Seeing the GP tonight. Wish me luck! Did another HPT this morning, negative. Breasts starting leaking clear/cloudy discharge last night. Wtf?

Rufus200 · 15/04/2015 09:38

Abfab I definitely get darker lines on OPKs when my cervix is open, so my body should of ovulated but whether it actually does is a different matter! Today there is a very faint line and CB I have a flashing face not fixed, so not there yet.

I'm getting my blood results and scan today to see if clomid has made a difference and what my fertility levels actually are. Quite scared that my AMH may have dropped as it has decreased slightly each of the last 3 years I've had it done.

PontyGirl · 15/04/2015 09:51

go for it ab Grin sex, sex and more sex!

drew fx crossed for you with the gp! that sounds like some sort of hormonal imbalance to me, but I know nothing really! let us know how you get on

I stupidly did a test today at 10dpo, bfn of course. I shouldn't do it really because I know I'm not going to be that lucky. my temps have stayed really close to the coverline this month, which FF says means nothing really, but I really don't think this is my month.

PontyGirl · 15/04/2015 09:52

fx tightly crossed for you Rufus, let us know how you get on Thanks

PopcornPip · 15/04/2015 12:43

Good luck rufus Flowers
mrs sounds like you had a positive appointment yesterday, that's great news.

I'm a little confused about AF at the moment. Sorry if tmi but was normal flow Saturday/Sunday then seemed to have finished Monday but have been red spotting since so it's hanging on. Odd Confused

Rufus200 · 15/04/2015 14:14

Just had my scan, clomid has worked! I have 4 follicles, they are a couple of days away from being mature. Getting scanned on Saturday to check if they have continued maturing or died away. Now just need DH to have good swimmers!

AbFab86 · 15/04/2015 17:05

Yesss that's great news Rufus!!! Go follicles go! Do they scan you again to tell whether an egg has been released? Sorry, I don't know what the next stage is. Very exciting though!

PontyGirl · 15/04/2015 17:20

popcorn give it a few more days and see what happens, it will probably stop completely. Annoying for you in the meantime though!

Rufus that is great news! better get on that baby making train good and proper

DrewOB · 15/04/2015 20:39

GP was really friendly, she thinks I may still be pregnant. Got prescribed another hcg test plus prolactin, progesterone and others.

bucketfullofwater · 16/04/2015 05:58

I'm bleeding! For the first time since august! Not sure if its a proper period, only half a tampon the whole day yesterday and not bright red (more dark red, brown) but at least something is happening!

Rufus that is fantastic news, I'm crossing everything for you for Saturday. DrewOB I really hope your doctor is right!

AbFab86 · 16/04/2015 06:39

bucket Fantastic! I think after any period of time it's likely to be darker brown blood than bright red. FX it continues!

Drew how exciting!! When do you have your next test? Or do you just have to keep doing HPTs?

DrewOB · 16/04/2015 06:45

End of next week, results week after. She said two patients had false neg blood tests lately at the practice

AbFab86 · 16/04/2015 08:35

Well that's comforting in an odd way! Ooh how exciting! How do you feel? Are you POAS every hour like I would be??

DrewOB · 16/04/2015 09:24

I've done super sensitive tests every other day. All bfn :( saying that I had a frer turn positive a few hours after I took it at beginning. Since then, bfn

PontyGirl · 16/04/2015 09:55

drew I've got everything crossed for you. really hoping you get some good news!

bucket yay! most people don't get excited about having their period but we get it! it feels like a real achievement doesn't it Grin

Ginfizz90 · 16/04/2015 14:04

Wahooo!!! Congratulations bucket fab news!

DrewOB · 16/04/2015 14:44

bit the bullet and paying for a private U/S this week to get a better understanding of stuff. I just can't afford to wait the 4 weeks it's going to take for NHS to shift into gear
