I'm preparing a "breast feeding snack survival kit" for a friend with a newborn who is lacking in energy. Can I pick your brains please. What did you all snack on to boost your energy in the early days? Thank you x

Lots of mini mars bars Blush my nan always said they helped with milk supply - not sure if they did help or not but they felt like ?uch an awesome 'guilt free' treat. Grin

When I did this for my sis recently I included chewy sweets - natural confectionary (?) snakes; individually wrapped pains au chocolate; bags of tasty rice cakes; snack packs of biscuits (I can't find the tubes of choc digestives with a lid I used to eat in supermarkets now - they were handy); cereal bars; bott?ed water; and ambient cartons of juice. Maybe other things I can't think of right now (I should be asleep, I have work tomorrow Blush)

A travel mug would also be useful - she could keep a nice (sugary) decaf (?) tea/coffee beside her for longer than a regular cup or mug Smile

Pear, oats supposedly boost supply as does fennel tea. I ate millions of flapjacks, my mum made loads and I kept them in a tin by the bed. So I vote for a tin of flapjacks and a pack of fennel tea for the kit.

Giddymamma · 25/03/2015 06:38

Thanks Ava. Sounds good for you this month, fingers crossed!
Pear, that's so very kind of you to help your buddy. I made loads of those cookies that are supposed to increase your milk supply. I made huge batches of the dough, then split it and froze in little batches. then it was dead handy to get out a pack of dough before I went to bed and then cook in the morning? Bit of effort required for that one though! Otherwise chocolate hobnobs. Summat mad like 11g of sugar per biscuit but they were gooooooood! And drank lucozade like a loon.

peardrop2 · 25/03/2015 06:56

Thanks a lot ladies ?? Sorry I should have said I need to stay away from caffeine and fizzy products because of colic. Loving the ideas! I'm quite excited to go to the supermarket to put it all together for her today Grin

This is my current list: Bananas, walnuts, pumpkin/sunflower seeds, a bag of spinach, some sort of cereal bar, flapjacks, mini Mars bars (although might have to leave out cos of colic), soreen, hot cross buns and apricots Grin

Thanks Giddy. Although I am insanely jealous EnvyEnvyEnvy of all my pregnant friends, ones with newborns and even the announcements on here...I refuse to let that come between friendships and I still want to act as the good friend that I am Wink

Giddy, yes! Karma has to be just as good as baby fairy dust right?! WinkSmile

It's weird that it's such a localised 'pain' though - right where I would imagine my ovary being Confused It might just be all in my head and wishful thinking, but they do say that remaining positive is important when ttc (and that your more sensitive to these things after your first pg) Wink

I did get a dip in temperature at ov and a .4 degrees fahrenheit increase for the last couple of days so i'm still hopeful. I'm such a dunce though, as I didn't realise the egg could be fertilised up to 36 hours after ov Sad now I'm a bit worried we stopped eod too early. Still, if it's meant to be it will be...

peardrop2 · 25/03/2015 14:55

Ahhh it's looking hopeful for you Ava Smile

Just popping in to say hi Smile. Ava thank you for your kind wishes.

Pear, your breastfeeding snack hamper is a lovely idea.

Giddy how are you feeling? I am constantly thirsty and my mouth is so dry. Doesn't bode well - not even 5 weeks yet Confused

Giddymamma · 25/03/2015 21:06

Hi Mary! Feeling pretty good to be honest. Bit thirsty and chapped lips / streaming cold, wasnt sure if that was due to snotty tot or symptom.... Fingers crossed it's a good sign....

peardrop2 · 25/03/2015 21:45

Omg I've just eaten a whole box of rocky road clusters Hmm DH is away and I am feeling incredibly nervous about AF turning up tomorrow hence eating a box of rocky clusters Shock

pear you deserve them!

giddy, that's reassuring if you're feeling thirsty too. Hope the colds clear soon.

Giddymamma · 25/03/2015 22:40

Thank you chicky. Had a raging thirst with ds too. Xx

peardrop2 · 26/03/2015 17:10

How are you Ava? Anymore symptoms?

OP posts:
AvaAmulet · 26/03/2015 23:01

Been obsessing about it all day at work actually, even though I promised myself I wouldn't Blush there's no way any hcg levels would be high enough yet anyway, but I'm still symptom spotting like a loon Sad convinced my boobies are more achy than usual, and they probably are, but I expect it's only because today is one of my work days so they haven't been emptied as much... I don't usually obsess this much, but I've never really put as much effort into ttc either. I thought I had, but getting my first proper AF has given me the boost I needed to properly get my act together. I had convinced myself that my progesterone levels were low, as my bbt is low-ish probably due to breastfeeding, but my optimism is increasing with every rise in temps - it's .4 degrees higher today Smile I know that it's all going in the right direction, so if we don't conceive this month we might in the near future, but I would be gutted, even more so than usual, to not get a bfp at the end of this 2ww...x

AvaAmulet · 26/03/2015 23:13

Oh, and Pear, I totally get your eating a full box of Rocky Road Clusters - I won a thorntons eater egg at work and devoured it completely practically as soon as I'd finished my tea this evening - DH didn't get a look in! I would be embarrassed, but I'm telling myself that this is my way of showing my body that I can sustain a pregnancy right now Blush hmm... Not totally convinced that stuffing my face with sugar is the right way to go, but I have been eating lots of good foods too, so it's all about balance... Gosh, I'll be a stone heavier at the end of this 2ww at this rate...(and hoping for hypermesis again! Lol!) Hmm

Droflove · 27/03/2015 17:39

I did a BFN test today. What an idiot! I never tested till I was late on DS and DD. Why the hell am I testing 5 days early on this one! You'd think by the 3rd try I'd have more self control! Lol.

peardrop2 · 27/03/2015 20:42

Drolove - that's exciting...so you're testing on Wesnesday? We need some more bfps to liven up the thread Wink
