Donna - well I don't actually have it booked, but have appointment with specialist last week of April and he pretty much said that would be the plan! I suppose it won't be until May or even June Hmm Xx

MaMaPo · 10/02/2015 23:52

Hello all! I've just hit the 10 month mark and been kicked off the Feb bus this morning so I thought I'd pop in and join you here. I'm 36 and we have a delightful 2 year old girl who was conceived at the drop of a hat. Been trying for a while now without the merest sniff of anything happening, and I've just started some investigations - had progesterone bloods done, getting day 3 bloods done tomorrow along with AMH, and just got back from a pelvic ultrasound.

Luckily everything is looking good - nice neat C-section scar from last time Smile, healthy lining, ovaries seem OK, and a 'normal' number of follicles. Had a bit of a fright when she explained to the med student that she could see the haemorrhagic cyst in the left ovary, but then explained to me that this was a normal part of the cycle. Reading now I see that the dominant follicle becomes the corpus luteum which breaks down after no pregnancy occurs, but can also sometimes retain blood and stick around for a while before resolving spontaneously.

Anyway, I get to talk to my GP about all the results soon. In the meantime I am going to drink a bucketload of gin tonight.

Best of luck to you all!

MaMaPo · 10/02/2015 23:52

I should add - I'm in Australia, not the UK, and hence wasn't having a pelvic scan at 11pm!

Pikz · 11/02/2015 05:51

Hi mama, teagan and everyone I have just suddenly had a mind blank on!

Nervously waiting to the weekend to find out if cycle 2 post hysteroscopy and laparoscopy was successful. Otherwise on to cycle 15

MissMrsMummy · 11/02/2015 08:25

Hello mamapo and welcome. You will find it's a bit quieter than the buses here Smile

How come you have managed to have all those investigations after only 10 months, is it because you are in Aus? I believe the medical system is very good.

MissMrsMummy · 11/02/2015 08:26

Good luck pikz

Glad it went ok donna take it easy x

MaMaPo · 11/02/2015 08:42

Hey missmrs - yes, I should probably also join a bus if I need to ramble.

In Australia the health system is quite a bit different (and more expensive). As it is I'm paying out of pocket for a proportion of the cost of these investigations; as an example, today's scan cost $290, around $90 of which the government has reimbursed me. I have private health insurance, as many people do (it is subsidsed inasmuch as you get a tax benefit from having it), and while my outpatient expenses aren't covered with my policy, inpatient fertility procedures will. The health system is quite different here and while it has its benefits, I was a big fan of the NHS while I was living in the UK (not to mention employed by it!).

If I were in the UK, depending on my area could I also be entitled to investigations due to my age (36)?

Pikz the waiting is the worst. Best of luck.

heyarnold19 · 11/02/2015 09:26

Hi all, I wanted to join and ask for a bit of advice. I'm 33 and ttc for the first time. I'm now on cycle 10 and never had a hint of a bfp! My cycles vary from 25 to 30 days but I seem to ovulate relatively regularly (between day 12 and 16) so I'm getting really frustrated that nothing has happened yet. This month I've been having slight cramps mid cycle (I haven't ovulated yet) which I don't normally get and for the last few months I've been having constant cramps a week (or sometimes more) before my period. I'm sure this is perfectly normal but every little thing just plays on your mind doesn't it?!

So I guess what I want to ask is do I have to be patient a little bit longer and wait until I get to 12 months or would you recommend going to the GP to get the ball rolling sooner? I'm worried that they will just tell me to go away. I can't lie to them about how long I have been trying as they know when I had my implant removed!

Thanks ladies!

TheTravellingLemon · 11/02/2015 09:42

Hi everyone. heyarnold it just varies from area to area unfortunately. Where I live, if you're under 35 and have no children they won't do anything until you've been trying for two years. I know people down the road though who have had help within the first year.

I've found that it also depends on the actual GP as well. One I saw said that they couldn't do anything for me as I already have a DS and the other referred me for tests straight away and then to the fertility clinic. If you have a sympathetic GP they might get the ball rolling for you.

MissMrsMummy · 11/02/2015 14:12

mama I'm not sure about age-wise but certainly we are recommended to visit the GP after 12 months of trying. Some areas make you wait 2 years though.

MuddyWellyNelly · 11/02/2015 14:13

Just a quick check in from me - so so many new faces. I'm sorry that so many of you have to be here, but it's a wonderful place to spend the time before the BFP.

AFM had my 16 week MW appointment today, and heard the heartbeat. This was very reassuring as I've been feeling a bit panicked this last week. Now just to wait 4 weeks until my next scan Hmm.

Anyway just wanted to wish everyone well, I don't think I can keep up with so many new names, but will try to read when I can.

MissMrsMummy · 11/02/2015 14:13

Does anyone know what order they will start doing investigations in once I go to my gap next week? I'm pretty terrified of having a laparoscopy so I was hoping that might be one of the last things they resort to?

MissMrsMummy · 11/02/2015 14:14

Hello muddy lovely for you to hear the heartbeat! What's your story? How long TTC? Did you have any treatment? We need some hope!

MissMrsMummy · 11/02/2015 14:15

*Go to my GP, not gap!

TrixieRay · 11/02/2015 14:19

That's interesting re not DTD after the HyCoSy Donna, they didn't tell me not to and we definitely DTD several times. I had AF type cramps afterwards too but then a pretty pain free AF that cycle which is odd for me.

Welcome Teagan, MaMaPo and Heyarnold.

Heyarnold, it wouldn't hurt to make an appointment (if your surgery is anything like mine that can take a few weeks). I get cramps the week before AF too - I hate it, I'm always hoping they could be implantation/early pregnancy cramps but get really upset because I know deep down AF is on its way.

Not too much longer to go now Pikz- though sure it will feel like forever!

Teagan, I have been taking manuka honey (just half a teaspoon each day to eek it out) I add it to my yogurt and it is lovely.

Have a GP appointment booked for 23rd Feb to request a referral to the fertility clinic. In the meantime plan is to stay positive, eat really well and drink loads of water.

MuddyWellyNelly · 11/02/2015 14:29

I've been posting on this thread for 3 years or so MissMrsMummy - over 4 years trying. I'm not sure I'm the beacon of hope you were looking for Wink. I had a very low AMH despite otherwise regular cycles and being stupidly healthy. We tried own egg IVF three times, and finally went for a donor egg, and were lucky enough to get pregnant first round, with 2 more embryos in the freezer. I'm constantly terrified of it all going wrong! But I guess I'm an example of never giving up; and that there are many many ways to start a family. I don't feel a tiny bit bothered about the Donor Egg part - I'm just beyond delighted that, all being well, we get to be parents, and I get to see my wonderful amazing husband be a Dad.

Best of luck to you all :)

Runningforgold · 11/02/2015 19:43

Hello all

Was wondering if I can join and also get some advice from ladies who seem to have a wealth of experience and are not afraid of a back story!

I am 34, partner 35 been ttc for the first one for 15 months. I've a history of PCO but not the syndrome and endo and I've never had a bfp.

My cycles are fairly regular 31 day average but with a weird 21 day and 37 day in the last 6 months.

I have had 21 day bloods and partner had semen test all on NSH and all normal and yet still we waited. Went to go to get referred to fertility clinic from go and it was taking a very long time to get to next step.

I woke up on New Year's Day and decided to take matters in hand and went private for an ultrasound, AMH bloods, HYCOSy and aqua scan. Turns out I may have a blocked right tube. They have suggested a Lap to make sure but are referring me back to NHS because they don't do them.

I'm frustrated because I had a Lap and Dye back in 2010 (when I was not in a position to ttc ) to remove a cyst on ovary and endo and tubes were free then but I guess scar tissue from that procedure might be the cause.

Where I need your help is that I wanted to know if anyone has paid to have a private lap and dye and if so how long did you wait and how much?

What is hanging over myself and my partner is that we decided to up sticks and go travelling this year as soon as possible. After 15 months of disappointment plus two stressful jobs we decided this was the plan and to let go, but now I feel like this is standing in the way because if we go NHS route this could take 5 months.

If the tube is blocked and can be unblocked great! If it is and if it can't then we would still go away and give it a natural shot for a bit longer as one tube is all we need right! But apparently if one is blocked the other could be less than ideal too so I need to find out, otherwise every month of getting af I would wonder.

Help! Sorry for epic post!

Inasimilarboat · 12/02/2015 19:40

I'm on month 11 and AF arrived today.

I've got an ultrasound tomorrow to look for Pcos.

Friends who started trying at the same time have lovely little babies by now and I'm feeling very down about the whole thing.

I know in reality it isn't that long but I'm so impatient.

ToesAndFingersCrossed · 13/02/2015 17:06

I just wanted to pop back here and let you guys know that my blood test results are back and it looks like little embie has bedded in nicely and I am, for the first time in my life, pregnant.

My hCG was 152, which apparently a strong positive. I am absolutely beside myself with joy!

Hope that gives you all hope that this fertility treatment lark does work, although it is of course very early days.
