A friendly and welcoming thread full of lovely women.

Don't think like that. There are lots of women out there who are unexplained and have success with ivf. It might just be you need that extra helping hand. I still think you have an excellent chance of success with your first try but if you can try to think of ivf as a course of treatment which can sometimes take up to 3 tries. The first time can often be to see how your sperm and egg work together and if anything needs to be changed for next time although the odds of it working first time at your age are still really good. After 3 tries the success rates are around 75-80% which is very good. It is such a rollercoaster of emotions but that is completely normal. Just keep your eyes on the prize and believe you will get there.

Thanks Lucie Smile
I've just read through everything from the clinic and it's amazing really that they can do all this.
Thank you for your support, very much appreciated Xx

Boobear1983 · 31/05/2015 20:21

Sammylou hope everything goes ok for you. Af was due today for me but so far a no show. All the usual af signs, sore boobs, stomach cramps. Only difference this month was a small amount of spotting about 6dpo. Think I'm just being hopeful, I'm sure af will turn up tomorrow!

Boobear1983 · 01/06/2015 13:47

Well me and dh went out today and bought a test as i was a day late. And.....bfp! The line came up straight away. If i knew how to post a photo i would x

loopylou1984 · 01/06/2015 17:49

Congratulations Boo Smile

TrixieRay · 02/06/2015 16:34

Yes, great that the ball is rolling MrsG. Did they give you any tips for improving your DHs sperm count? Zinc is supposed to me really good for sperm and there is loads of info if you look on line.
I have polycystic ovary's, apparently one in every 5 women have and most don't have problems conceiving. I was told to cut down on sugar and to increase my protein levels, helped my PMT so worth it for that alone!
The Zita West CD is available on Amazon, it's a relaxation/visualisation CD.
I speak to some friends and family re our TTC problems and most are really understanding. This place is a lifeline though!

Boobear, congratulations Smile it's been a while since we've had a BFP on this thread, hopefully there'll be a few more very soon.

Welcome dizzylemon, I know a lot of ladies have had success with soy so definitely perservere. I hope your referral comes through nice and quickly.

Sammy, I feel exactly the same way. I always assumed that one month I would be posting my BFP stats and they wouldn't include injections etc. Like Lucie says though as long as we get a BFP that is all that matters. Try not to worry, I know it is far easier said than done though!

Had a lovely weekend away with DH and have been taking my medication to delay AF with no side effects which is good. Did a test the day after AF was due and BFN, wasn't as upset as I thought I would be luckily. Have just under two weeks until my baseline scan!

lucieloos · 02/06/2015 19:17

Hey trixie, I didn't realise you had pcos. Some of the ladies at the same clinic I am at have it too and they have been recommended to take a supplement called myo-inositol it's meant to help with egg quality. What medication are you going to be on for stimms?

MrsG12345 · 02/06/2015 21:39

Thanks Trixie. They told us more what to avoid like hot baths and cycling. I've had a look online too at what he can eat to help too. We've also both started taking the vitabiotics tablets for conception so fingers crosse they might help too. My diet is sooooooo much better than it was. I'm literally in love with asparagus and I'm eating loads more vegetables and a bit of fruit too. DH isn't eating as well as me as he's working crazy long hours at the moment and sometimes isn't hungry when he gets in. I'm trying to hide vegetables in his meals. He's happy for me to do that. Sorry you got a BFN TrixieT:( xie :(What does a baseline scan involve?

Congratulations Booker! Amazing news!

MrsG12345 · 02/06/2015 21:40

Sorry about all of the typos. Bloody predictive text! X

TrixieRay · 03/06/2015 13:44

Lucie, I have pco but don't have pcos. I ovulate regularly, my hormones levels are all normal, I have a low bmi and no other symptoms. The clinic didn't seem particularly concerned other than suggesting I cut back on the sugar and increase protein so hopefully my egg quality will be ok. Will definitely bear the supplement in mind for the future just in case. My paperwork says Antagonist protocol and cetrotide....I feel pretty clueless at the moment but sure it will all become clear when I go in for my first scan.

Thanks MrsG, definitely sounds like you've made lots of positive changes, fingers crossed they pay off soon. A baseline scan is a scan they do at the beginning of an IVF cycle, just have a look and see how things are looking before you start injections, then you have to go back for further scans so that they can monitor things.

lucieloos · 03/06/2015 18:32

Ohh ok Trixie I've heard you can have it without the actual symptoms. I am also on antagonist protocol with cetrotide. Do you know what stimm drugs you are on? Sorry just being nosy and comparing mine to others. I'm on 150iu Menopur and 100iu Gonal-F a day this time around. Not long to go now! I'm starting mine in around 2 weeks!

loopylou1984 · 03/06/2015 18:35

You guys are about a month ahead of me! You'll know either way by the time I start! I so wish I was starting with you both, this feels like a wasted month. Xx

lucieloos · 03/06/2015 19:06

You will be there soon enough too Sammy. I always find the waiting the hardest though. I would rather just be getting on and doing something but it will come around in no time and then we will be here cheering you on Smile

TrixieRay · 03/06/2015 21:05

I wish you were too Sammy but look at it as an extra month to prepare yourself and a last chance at a pre IVF BFP.

Lucie my papers say gonadotrophin but no dose. I think I'll be having a fairly low dose to start due to my pco. Ordered my meds today so they can get delivered on Monday when I have the day off.

Asked my boss today if I could the time off after egg collection (plan to take a day or 2 depending on how I feel) without losing hol allowance and he said yes. I work for a tiny company so no policy.

loopylou1984 · 05/06/2015 06:16

Thanks both, and massive good lucks to you!!! Keep me updated on each step won't you?

Cd6 now for me, so should be 22/23 days until AF and the start of things for me! Xx

TrixieRay · 08/06/2015 10:59

Absolutely Sammy!
My meds have just arrived. Glad I got them delivered to my home rather than work because some of the meds need to go in the fridge and would have been a bit awkward to have to put them in the work fridge!!
I'm not sure what is wrong with me but I got a bit emotional when I was unpacking them Hmm I think it is just hitting me that it is really really happening, what am I going to be like when it actually comes to injecting etc.
Hope everyone is ok.

loopylou1984 · 08/06/2015 12:25

I assumed I'd just collect meds from the clinic, didn't realise they'd be delivered!
It's so an emotional time, I think I'll probably feel teary too when the time comes. When do you expect to start the meds?

I had to turn down a work trip in July as it'll be right smack bang in the middle of treatment. Xx

TrixieRay · 08/06/2015 12:42

Maybe you will be able to collect yours, I think it varies from place to place. I was given the option of having the prescription and organising them myself- I've read that you can get the meds cheapest in Asda but there isn't one anywhere near us or using Healthcare at home through the clinic. Was really easy, the clinic give them the prescription and details and then you contact them to arrange delivery at your convenience.

That's a pain about your work trip. DH and I had to turn down an invite to a BBQ which is on the day of our proposed transfer and I am supposed to be in a dance show the weekend after transfer....I know they say not to do strenuous exercise in the 2ww after IVF so going to have to run it past the Doctor.

TrixieRay · 08/06/2015 12:48

Sorry Sammy, just realised I didn't answer your question. I have my first scan on Monday and will be shown how to do injections then so think first injection is Monday evening. I am due to stop the medication to delay AF on Wednesday and then AF should arrive on Saturday - slightly concerned that it may come early or late and mess things up but trying not to worry.

TrixieRay · 08/06/2015 12:50

Oh an Lucie, have more info re my meds now. Have 2 boxes of Gonal F 300iu and 1 box of Gonal F 900iu plus loads of other stuff. Couldn't believe how big the box was....

loopylou1984 · 08/06/2015 22:39

Trixie, it's all getting exciting for you now! Although a bit scary too I imagine? What are the needles like? Are they like the ones diabetics use, or proper syringe type ones? I'm a bit worried about jabbing myself to be honest. Xx

lucieloos · 08/06/2015 22:58

Oh that's brilliant you have your meds trixie! It is a little overwhelming seeing it all for the first time but you will be absolutely fine. You will be amazed (and you too Sammy) of how you hardly feel anything at all when you do the first injection. The needles are very fine and I did mine and couldn't feel it go in or anything. I was on a different drug called Menopur last time Trixie but this time I am on half Gonal F and half menopur. The Gonal is meant to help with quality and Menopur with growth but Gonal is better for pco or pcos.

TrixieRay · 09/06/2015 11:13

That's good to know Lucie, thank you! I've not actually had a look at anything properly yet but will do over the weekend. Have instructions re the injections in my information booklet but will have my lesson on Monday when I have my first scan - can't wait to get started now.

loopylou1984 · 12/06/2015 07:00

Lucie, how are you doing? Where are you in your cycle at the moment?

Trixie - are you on track for AF on Saturday? Xx

TrixieRay · 12/06/2015 11:15

I'm not sure Sammy, I've had some on off AF type cramping since stopping the meds and have def had some PMT, really hoping it arrives on schedule tomorrow. I am supposed to be on day 2 or 3 on Monday so not sure what will happen if it arrives later today or Monday. How are you Sammy?
