Anyone taking part in the Response Medical Trial or any other medical trial?

Hi, I'm taking part in the Response medical trial and wondering if anyone else on here is too?
It's been a very difficult year and a half and I have had three consecutive miscarriages, 1st in Nov 2013 at 12 weeks, 2nd in July 2014 at 7 weeks, 3rd in Nov 2014 at 9 weeks. It's a 4 month waiting list for my Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic so I'm taking part in the trial as want to keep things moving as worried I'm running out of time (I'm 36 this year - although I was 33 when first started TTC) but I'm in the 2WW and feeling terrified.
There's a lot of extra support offered as part of the trial but I'm feeling a bit lonely and out on a limb about it.
Anyone else on the same boat or had medical trial experience?

Yes girliesaints I'm sure they do. I have had two miscarriages and last one was kind of like a chemical. it's so hard isn't it.

so what are your thoughts about it?Have you had testing done yet xx

girliesaints · 14/03/2015 20:50

Had bloods and uterus scan by hospital after a lot of pushing by me. These came back all clear which I was expecting as already have a DD. Problems have only started since we've been trying for a sibling.

Just been having a chat with DH and think we're quite keen as we haven't been offered any support by consultant and feels like we've been thrown to the wind, so any extra support would welcomed.

How long after you enquire did it take for you to be signed up and were you ttc in the meantime? We've been on a six month break due to waiting for the conclusion after the tests so debating whether to crack on now or wait a bit longer for the trial.

clairemorgan81 · 14/03/2015 21:37

same here we already have a ds and problems have only began since ttc sibling.

I waited about 3 weeks for an appointment and signed up that day. they take a whole load of bloods to test for various conditions and its quite strict I think about weight/age etc........then you receive lots of ovulation and pregnancy tests (trial nurse went through it all with me)

as far as extra support goes I know you get scans Much more regularly I think it's 6,8,10,12 weeks and appointments in between which will provide so much more reassurance I hope. my last MC was Dec and we have been ttc since Feb so we haven't waited at all xx

girliesaints · 14/03/2015 21:53

Sorry one last question, is the drug an injection and if so, what are they like?

sizethree · 14/03/2015 22:12

Hi girlie, I'll give you as brief as I can trial experience.
I had my 3rd MC in nov and was told about the trial then by one of the EPU nurses.
I had to wait to get s negative pregnancy test before I could enrol. So in mid jan I had my appointment with the trial manager.
You go with your partner and they ask questions about fevers health, family medical history etc and do blood tests.
They give you ov tests and pregnancy tests and a chart to use to pinpoint when to start ov testing and then preg testing.
You start pregnancy testing a week after ivulation as they need to pick up pregnancy as soon as possible as the drug aims to help with implantation.
I fell pregnant the second month of trying and got my BFP 3 days before period was due.
I went into the hospital and got bloods taken and did my first injection there.
They give you a week supply and a sharps bin and a card to document when you take them.
I've always been a bit squeamish with injections but can honestly say that I can't feel it and got used to injecting very quickly. As I said in the other thread, I actually look forward to taking the injection daily now as it's like a marker of sucess.
The injections need to be kept in the fridge and you need to take them around about the same time each day(although I think it's a 4 hour window).
As its a double blind trial, you nor the nurses/triak manager will know if you're on the placebo or the actual drug. But you get a lot more support than if you were just to go it alone and try again.
You get a 6 week, 8 week and 12 week scan.
It's always terrifying having a pregnancy after recurrent miscarrages, but at least this way there's a chance you get the drug and the extra support is a bonus in itself.

Ps. The injection is tiny. The needle is so thin you can't really feel it and the amount that you inject is not much. It is subcutaneous so doesn't go in deep.

sorry I thought you got at 10 wk scan - choccy and sizethree are Much more informed than I am with this whole thing so they will give you lots more info.....
how you doing sizethree xx

Choccywoccydodah · 15/03/2015 07:55

Mornjng ladies. How're you feeling this morning sizethree? Great news you're startibg to feel pregnant and that you had some reassurance on the mc thread. Amazing news.

Claire are you still spotting brown? I'm wondering if that's inplantation?

Welcome girlie! Very welcome here!! I think sizethree has covered it all above. I get scans at 6,8,10 and 12 weeks so not sure if maybe different in Scotland??
And yes, early losses are counted. All mine (8 losses consecutively) bar 2 were before the 5 week mark, other 2 were just over 5 weeks. I only managed to scrape to get into the trial though as I had a scan with one of them and they saw the sac and yolk. Had I not had that proof, I wouldn't have been allowed on. The new rules are 2 'proofs' but they let me in anyway thank god.

All good here, have been coughing the last few days and last night had a proper coughing fit and now my belly is all strained :(
Felt sick all day yesterday, tried to eat and failed, but managed dinner last night and ate loads. We've bought a nutrigrill, can't do link sorry it's not letting me copy and paste for some reason!! And spent a couple of hours doing that with friends and was lovely! Had prawns, pork, and chicken, noodles, loads of veg and I made a couple of dips. Managed a slice of choc fudge cake I made and MAHOOSIVE strawberries we found while out, size of bloody small apples!!
Lovely way to spend an evening :)

girliesaints · 15/03/2015 08:20

Thanks for the information and congratulations to those of you that are pregnant. Off to call my local hospital tomorrow and see if I can participate. (Fingers crossed)

clairemorgan81 · 15/03/2015 08:26

morning choccy
sounds like you you had a wonderful evening sounds scrummy. your sickness is still there isn't it. hopefully it will pass the nearer you get to 12 weeks.

gosh it's your 8 wk scan on ties that must feel great. 8 wks is so much further than you have managed before yey!

Yes still light brown. ive kept doing tests as didn't know whether I should until proper period arrives although I dont see point, needless to Say they are negative ð??

good luck for tomorrow girlie I'm sure you 'll get on xx

sizethree · 15/03/2015 09:31

I thought they skipped the 10 week one, but great if they sing as that 4 week gap would be unbearable.
Keep us updated with how you get on with calling the trial manager today girlie.
I'm feeling pretty sad today TBH. As you know it's the due date (and fucking Mother's Day, boo) of to 2nd baby and still feeling really knocked sideways by this rare chromosomal abnormality news. But just got to battle in thriugh and hope the results come speedily.
Claire until your oeriod starts properly is say you're still in with a chance. Brown spotting is older blood so could be implantation bleeding that's taken a while to find its way down to pant land.
Choccy your grill thing sounds great. Glad you've got a bit of appetite back.
I've started to be really picky with food and currently have the menu choice if a 6 year old at a birthday party! Yesterday was all about ham sandwiches, salt and vinegar square crisps and spaghetti.
Ivd gone off everything sweet which is very unlike me.
I've no actual sickness but a rather upset fluffy feeling tummy. And the boobs are big and sore and still taunting DH!

OP posts:
Choccywoccydodah · 15/03/2015 10:44

You'll be having a boy then sizethree :)
I'm with you with the sweet stuff, no no for me too, same with ds. Friends told me you go off sweet stuff and have little sickness with a boy and they were right! Not sure how accurate it is though lol!
So sorry you're feeling so down today, with your due date today and all the shit you've found out the last few days, it's been a proper kick in the teeth :(
I was told fortnightly re scans and said they may even have me back at 14 weeks too so we'll see :)

sizethree · 15/03/2015 11:06

I've never really thought of any orwgnancy having a sex. It's weird I'd always just thought of them as babies. I'd be delighted either way!
I'm sure when Easter rolls around I'll be knee deep in eggs as I love them. Maybe I'll be over my savoury phase by then.
Gosh it'd be great to keep getting scanned every fortnight.
I'd love to do that through the entire pregnancy. Although I'm sure that when you start to feel the kicks, then that is reassuring in itself.

OP posts:
clairemorgan81 · 15/03/2015 12:25

hope your bearing up okay today sizethree, it's a double kick in the teeth with it being mothers day.

this brown discharge started last month about ,6 days before period came so I think it 'll be same this month any idea why ladies?

sizethree · 15/03/2015 15:15

I've always understood brown blood to be old blood so I don't think k there's anything sinister going on. It could be from implantation bleed or sometimes sex can cause a little abrasion in the cervix wall and cause a bit of bleeding. Which is only apparent a few days after.
My oeriod starts off and ends up with brownish blood. And remember the periods post MC tend to be a bit on the crazy side so may be taking a while for your body to get back to what is normal for you.
Hope it's not worrying you. X

clairemorgan81 · 15/03/2015 16:07

I'm starting to worry just with it happening two month in a row and i read online (I'm a nightmare for consulting Dr Google) it can be caused by low progesterone which also can cause miscarriages Shock

Choccywoccydodah · 15/03/2015 17:08

I had border line progesterone Claire and was put on Cyclogest suppositories after my third loss, didn't help with losing but helped with spotting from 7dpo. Obviously didn't matter this cycle as I didn't use the cyclogest and still caught.
If it stays brown, you're still in the running so if keep testing :)

I am absolutely EXHAUSTED!!!!!!!!
Friends have just left and I am knackered, I feel like I haven't sat down since Friday afternoon. I'm glad they've gone tbh, I know it sounds mean!

clairemorgan81 · 15/03/2015 17:26

you 've had a hectic weekend choccy and your cooking a baby so you will be exhausted.

how did you know you had borderline progesterone?

Choccywoccydodah · 15/03/2015 17:30

I had the 21 day test after I lost number 3 as we didn't try that month. It tests your progesterone levels x

clairemorgan81 · 15/03/2015 17:44

I had a day 21 blood test a few year ago to check I was ovulating, would that be same one and could your levels change do you know? Sorry about all the questions!!x

Choccywoccydodah · 15/03/2015 19:32

I think your levels can change yes, I never had spotting before I fell with our ds x

clairemorgan81 · 15/03/2015 20:02

it's strange as has only happened after most recent loss not other ones x

girliesaints · 16/03/2015 10:51

Morning, I've spoken to my local hospital and at face value it looks like I qualify for the trial. I'm being sent the information pack tonight to review and hopefully tomorrow will be making my appointment for the next few weeks, so it looks like it will move fast.

I've been told to expect weekly blood tests and fortnightly scans for at least the first 12 weeks.

I'm just a little bit excited x

sizethree · 16/03/2015 10:56

That's great news girlie. Yes they do work fast!
Honestly, the extra care and scanning so brilliant. I usually had to wait til 9 weeks for a reassurance scan. The 6 week one still felt like a while to get to, but really it's jt just over a two week wait from when you get your BFP.
How exciting!

Choccywoccydodah · 16/03/2015 14:01

Yey girlie great news!! :)

It's lovely having the back up and support from the hospital, and the scans are such a bonus.

Can't wait for 8 week scan tomorrow!!
They found a large fimbrial cyst (5-6cm) when I had my scan in oct and hasn't grown in dec, but I've started to get a slight pain where it was, so I'm going to get them to have a look tomorrow if they can.

Don't feel as sicky today and managed a ham and cheese toast sandwich, WOW! Amazing!! Tasted so good!
