Feeling like I might be leaving this too late...

Im 28 and feel like im leaving babies far too late.
I have been with my partner for 9 years and we have decided that next year I will come off the pill (cerazette) and we shall try for a family.

I just have a horrible feeling like we have left this too late, as ive heard stories that it can take months or even years to conceive after coming off the pill.

I feel really anxious and in a way im nervous of trying to conceive because it might not happen - what if I cant have kids?!

Another thing is - Ive been taking this pill for years, not for contraception but because I have very heavy and painful periods, and obviously I will have to suffer when I come off them :(

Any advice would be grateful.

I don't think you should worry, it's luck of the draw really. Some women take years or months in their 20's or 30's; it purely depends on the person.

It took me 2 months to conceive at 27 years old and took a friend who was 36 only 6 months. I appreciate it does take longer for some but you realy won't know until you try.

If you want to prepare your body why don't you come off of the pill now, then it will have left your system when the time is right to ttc!

As I'm discovering now, it can take longer than you think to conceive! I came off microgynon about 10 years ago (not ttc then, came off for other reasons) and not to freak you out but it took me almost a year for my periods to come back. So if you wanted to ttc next year I'd come off it sooner personally and use another form of bc until you're ready to ttc. Although you might be one of the lucky ones who conceives quickly, it might also take a bit longer.

I came off the pill right before my wedding and started trying while on honeymoon. I conceived on the third official month of trying but I don't really count the first month. So it can happen quickly, I'm the same age as you too.

I think you should come off the pill and not wait until next year if you are already anxious. You are still young though and in the your prime to conceive. Many women stay on the pill for a lot longer.
Talk to your doctor about it also. Maybe your periods will not be as bad as you were when you were younger. Mine definitely have improved as I have got older.

I was on the pill for about 10 years before become coming off it to ttc when I was 29 and conceived second cycle. Started ttc#2 four years later, not having been on the pill again since DDs birth, and am still ttc 15 months later. It just goes to show that you can never predict what will happen, you just have to do what feels right for you at the time. Good luck!

God, DP and I are 80% sure we don't want children (we finally landed on the same ambivalent page after a while) but we will probably review when I am 35... 28 is YOUNG.

I am now 5 weeks pregnant.

Periods in the last 6 months have been a bitch though!

I was on the pill for 10 years for painful heavy periods, I stopped age 34, ttc and found my periods not nearly as bad as they had been 10 years before. I was pregnant on the forth month of trying, had my first baby age 35.

There is really no way of you knowing how it will go for you, some women are supposedly more fertile in the 3months immediately stopping the pill. Others women discover that the pill has been masking fertility issues.

The good news is that these days 28 is considered still young, and gives you time to deal with issues if needed. Hope you conceive quickly when you start trying

Thank you for all the replies :) I wasn't expecting anything!

I also have crohns disease and not sure if that has any effect either.

I have a doctors appointment on Monday (funnily because since I came out of hospital after a crohns flare ive been bleeding - 3 weeks now... but since I made the appointment, they seem to be stopping!)

So I will probably mention all this too.

Ive never really spoken about having children or anything with anyone but my boyfriend - and I have a feeling im going to be very nervous and embarrassed haha!!! How silly xx

Just a suggestion, why don't you come off the pill now and use condoms if you are worried about lasting effects of the pill? Your periods could come back fine, or it could take a while. Would accidentally conceiving a year early be so bad? ('Worst case scenario').

Just to add, I came off pill 27.5. Nothing for 7 months. Went to drs, given pill to jump start a bleed. Periods started 3 months later. Only ttc a few months later. Turns out pill masking pcos, but with natural fertility signs timed long but regular cycles and conceived aged 29 on 3rd cycle. Btw, you are not old for ttc

Ttc number2 next sept just gone 32. My periods are now all over the place, but that's another story. Good luck!

Not too late at all! My best friend is 29, came off the pill and got pregnant in her first month of trying! I am 30 (31 in a few weeks), came off depo then implant in august, hadn't had AF in three years and I'm now trying for no1. There's always hope x

I came off the pill when I was 30 and 4 weeks later had a bfp. I had been on the pill for 15 years. I am 31 now going back on the pill for a year before trying for baby number 2. I would say you are young enough not to worry.

I've not been taking the pill but I have just started TTC at 32. I still consider myself young, 28 is definitely not too late.

Not too old at all. I'm 28 and 20 weeks pregnant this time took 3 months of ttc, my other two took first month each. I'd suggest coming off the pill sooner rather than later though and starting taking vitamins for you and your partner that aid fertility and doing your research so that when you do ttc your body will be in the best shape possible

Im 35. Started ttc age 30. Over 2 yrs later we did ivf for several issues. Dc1 born at 32.

Ivf 2-4 at 34/35 and pg with no2.
You just dont know how your/ OH fertility will be as most things have no symptoms.
Painful periods- do you have endo?
You have to ttc for 2-3 yrs before nhs ivf treatment usually. If they offer it at all.
Is crohns autoimmune?

I'm nearly 36. Came off the pill in July after takeing them for quite a while. It's took me 3 months for my periods to come back to near normal (still no where near as heavy as they once were). I know of no reason why, despite my own medical issues, I won't get pregnant due to my age.... Good luck :)

I am going to the doctors tomorrow and will speak to him/her about maybe coming off the pill now. I'm not looking forward to period pain though :(

If I miss a pill, I usually have a 'bleed' - and have had some bleeding while on it - but my mum has always told me 'this is not a real period, but a fake one'?! I don't know.... Mums!! ha.
With this in mind, I don't think it would take long for my periods to start getting back to normal, but you never know.

I think I feel old because most of the people my age on facebook have already got a child - 2 or 3 in some cases. I know it shouldn't affect me but it does lol

I am also sooooooooo scared about being pregnant, giving birth etc that I think I might cry if and when I find out im pregnant because I wont know what to do!

I'm 39 and have a 5 month old DS - it took me all of 8 weeks to conceive h after coming off the pill (which is taken for years) so try not to worry

Doctor said today that I should only stop taking the pill when I am ready for children as I could get pregnant straight away. Apparently cerrazette doesn't stay in your system, so as soon as you stop everything should be back to normal.

We only decided to start next year as we are moving in January and once moved we will be better off money wise. So will probably come off the pill about a month after we have moved.. xx

I wouldn't come off the pill until you are really ready to conceive, as yr doctor suggested.

28 isnt old!

I conceived the first time I had unprotected sex with my DH at 27.

I stopped taking the pill while waiting in Oz for my UK visa after getting married....DH came to visit me while I waited 2 months after (despite me starting to take it again 2 weeks before his visit!), & the result is our two wonderful DTDs (Oh and I was 32)

Yeah well once you stop taking the pill it can take 5 years or 5 minutes. You have no idea about which 'camp' you will be in. But if 1/6 couples have difficulty conceiving 5/6 don't. So its more likely you won't.

So if you go for it now the most likely outcome (5/6) is you will be holding your baby in a years time or at least be pregnant.
