Different results on different opks

I have been using the clearblue dual hormone tester for past 3 months but I am not convinced to its accuracy. It has been showing me as high fertility for past 3 days and this afternoon I took a boots opk, which didn't show a surge. I'm having sex anyway, but how can they show different results?

Hmmmm I was wondering the same thing auntie... Had my first flashing smile on cb dig this morning but have just done a cheapy opk and no line whatsoever but I'm bearing in mind that the cb digital with dual hormone thingy shows a flashing smile when you are high fertility which is more to do with the rise in oestrogen before you ovulate and the solid smile indicates a rise in lh which indicates you will ovulate in the next few days... So in theory if and when we get our solid smiley face that's when we should also get a + on a different opk ... We shall see !!!! Hope this helps xx

Apparently the CB can give up to 9 days of high fertility before ov - it's somewhere in all the blurb and instructions. I had the opposite problem, I had a surprise positive on a IC ov test but negative on CB for that day and the day after, followed by a week of flashing smileys Confused. I know I ovulated as AF arrived 2 weeks after the positive IC test.

I've read the CB needs to establish a baseline for the first day or two of use. Also, apparently it will keep showing flashy smileys until it detects a peak. So if it missed your peak (as it did mine), it will just keep giving you a high fertility reading.

However, if you're pretty sure you haven't ov'd yet, I would give it a few more days. I've not been entirely convinced by them either up. What kind of issues have you had with them?

uptheauntie · 12/10/2014 19:23

It's given me a peak now, I'm not showing any other signs, but I'll go for it! I think I have in the back of my head I'm not actually ovulating anymore, if I'm honest.

Ohhh hopefully you are auntie... What cycle day are you and how long are your cycles normaly? I'm on cd13 and on my second day of flashing smiley... No peak on my other opk yet

uptheauntie · 12/10/2014 19:38

Cycles are normally 31 to 33 days, I am on day 17. Peak came yesterday. I've been charting too, but with mixed results Sad

Could be accurate for you ... Let's hope so eh :) at least your dtd anyway so fx for you...as I say I'm getting flashys but no peak yet and my cm seems to have all but vanished nice I came off the pill.. Just hoping I do get a peak and not endless flashies !!!

Katewright699 · 12/10/2014 19:41

*since not nice !!! Stupid phone

uptheauntie · 12/10/2014 19:51

No disrespect to my DH but god I am getting fed up of DTD.

Katewright699 · 12/10/2014 19:53

Lol I know what you mean it just seems to sap all the fun out it somehow doesn't it !!! Have you done another opk when you got your solid smiley to see if you got a + on your other one ?

Orangeisthenewbanana · 12/10/2014 20:03

Sounds promising auntie! Definitely go for dtd if you've had a peak. My last cycle was 34 days and I got my most positive opk CD20 so yours sounds about right for your cycle. Good luck!

Keep going Kate, I'm sure you'll get your peak soon.

Katewright699 · 12/10/2014 20:04

That's what I was thinking orange that cd17 is hopefully about right for aunties cycle so hopefully it's the real deal :) and thanks orange hopefully I'll get that smiley soon ! Grin

uptheauntie · 12/10/2014 20:08

Hope you get your smiley soon. I was totally misjudging when I ovulated, so these have helped focus me a bit!

Katewright699 · 12/10/2014 20:10

Ahhh that's good that your finding them a help ... Keep us updated Wink

uptheauntie · 12/10/2014 20:16

Are you charting? I'm finding that hard and making me think I'm nit actually ovulating....

OP posts:
Orangeisthenewbanana · 12/10/2014 20:18

No charting here yet. Kind of want to leave myself another thing to try if we're still having no luck a few months down the road.

Katewright699 · 12/10/2014 20:34

Same here no charting yet..

uptheauntie · 12/10/2014 21:17

It's just another thing to obsess over!

OP posts:
Orangeisthenewbanana · 12/10/2014 21:36

That's the other reason I've not started it yet! Grin

uptheauntie · 12/10/2014 22:04

I think DH is getting fed up with the fecking beeping of the thermometer every morning at 630.

OP posts:
Katewright699 · 13/10/2014 09:04

Lol I would definelatly obsess over charting as well if I did it Grin still a flashing smiley for me this morning but will test again later... What's a good time for a second test or does it not really matter ?

uptheauntie · 13/10/2014 19:25

I never tested using clearblue more than once a day, just DTD anyway and tested again next morning.

OP posts:
Orangeisthenewbanana · 13/10/2014 19:39

I tested with CB in the mornings and an IC early evening. Do you think I could get away with doing a CB EOD next cycle? If it picks up one or two high days before your peak, I should catch one of them or the peak?? And test daily once a flashy smiley comes up..

Katewright699 · 14/10/2014 08:25

I would have thought so orange.. Kinda makes sense when you think about it .. Well it's day 4 of flashing smiles for me and I must say I'm getting rather bloody frustrated with it... And if I do an ic I don't get anything not even a faint line.. No line whatsoever Confused wondering if I'll ever get a peak or if I'm completely wasting my time dtd eod on my flashing days ... Sigh

uptheauntie · 14/10/2014 08:35

It's all frustrating isn't it. I feel as if I am shooting in the dark sometimes.
