Hi all,

Just wanted to share my experience in case it helps anyone going through the same thing, and would love any advice or info from anyone else too. Mumsnet has been the most useful and comforting place to visit, don't know what I would've done without it.

I had my 12 week scan last Tuesday (9th Sep), revealed the baby had no heartbeat and had stopped growing at 7 weeks. I'd felt well, and very pregnant (tired, sore boobs, crazy sense of smell, some sickness), no indication anything was wrong. It was a huge, hideous shock and the last week has been the worst of my life.

The worst thing was that because the sac measured 2mm shorter than it should've, I was told I'd have to wait a week to have another scan to double check it was definitely a MMC in case I'd got my dates wrong. I was 100% of my dates (having tracked them when TTC, and used OPKs), so knew the baby couldn't just be 7 weeks. Aside from the psychological torture of knowing I was then carrying our dead baby around still, and had been for 5 weeks already, we're getting married in 4 weeks (16th Oct), and the thought of going through a natural miscarriage at any moment and still potentially bleeding by the wedding was too much. I also have a pretty full-on job, and the idea of miscarrying at work (or at home) totally terrified me.

The NHS refused to scan me earlier (government guidelines...FFS), or schedule an ERPC, so I arranged a private scan with a consultant 4 days later (last Friday). The night before I started spotting (guess how much sleep I got that night) but made it to the scan which confirmed that the sac was empty, and was starting to change shape - indicating imminent miscarriage (hence the spotting). Thankfully the consultant was then able to book me in for an ERPC the same day, and a few hours later I was waking up from the anesthetic, relieved and grateful, but also incredibly sad that it was all over.

Since then, I've had a couple of days of light cramps and spotting, and now 5 days after the ERPC I've pretty much stopped bleeding. Just hope it stays that way! DH and I want to start TTC asap, so fingers crossed. Did a HPT yesterday and got a BFP in under 10 seconds (!), first time I've ever wanted to see a BFN... Weird. Going to keep checking and as soon as I see a BFN I hope that'll mean we're good to go again!

Sorry for the long post - but please share any of your own stories - and would love to know how long it took anyone to get their first ovulation/period after a MC? Hoping this can be a supportive and positive (well, as much as poss anyway) thread, and hopefully in time we'll start seeing some BFPs and share GOOD scan news!

Clara x
