If your DH/DP works they use it too for paternity leave Smile

Think it's 8'weeks til I go on mat leave GrinGrinGrin can't wait!!

Siarie · 19/08/2014 19:56

DH is self employed and I think there are caps on income for it? I help out but I'm not employed, but even then I think the cap is the issue.

Never mind though, it's there to help people who work so it doesn't feel like I'm missing out or anything :)

poppet85 · 19/08/2014 20:22

Siarie it means you get free dentist & optician appointments !! Dying to go to the dentist but holding out !

Ducky23 · 19/08/2014 20:33

I got a card for that too. Ohhh does anyone know much about them? the maternity exemption cards last for a year after the baby is born.

Dd was born in feb so my card expires in feb, should I expect a new one now or in feb leading on from when dd's expires? Confused!

iamdivergent · 19/08/2014 20:40

Get sheets for the cot and a sleeping bag/gro bag - baby bed done Grin

a lot of travel systems come with a car seat but make sure it fits in your car!

you don't NEED a moses basket but they are handy as baby can go to sleep in lounge the you can just carry the basket upstairs (we had two stands). morrisons have loads of lovely baby bits, 3 pack hooded towels for £6 and bottles/sterilisers etc too and asda do a great baby event too.

Deary me aye.

LuluJakey1 · 19/08/2014 23:27

I haven't eaten much today Cupcake. Felt a bit sick and off- colour. Have had 5 paprika rice cakes, some cottage cheese and a kiwi fruit.

Cupcake92 · 20/08/2014 06:43

Ms is horrible isn't Lulu. I know now I was very lucky with DS!

Have my booking in appt today. I'm feeling very nervous now. It's at 9am.

Michelle how did ur scan go?

Siarie · 20/08/2014 07:55

I've got my appointment today, no idea what kind it is. I'm expecting my GP to maybe book my booking appointment? Including maybe some questions and forms, going to be interesting.

I was wondering, I'm implanted at 4dpo so does that mean I'll be further along than predictors say? Because I'm currently 3w 6d but all the info on that suggests the the egg only just implanted week three this week? Yet I implanted Monday last week. In week three info it suggests that's implantation week?

steph1204 · 20/08/2014 08:36

FX for you appointments Siarie and Cupcake!!
Keep us posted :)

I have an appointment with my boss next monday morning, to annouce the news... I'm so scared of her reaction!

Michelle51012 · 20/08/2014 10:56

Bearsinmotion · 20/08/2014 12:09

Just to add - slings! I loved the BabyBjorn when DD was tiny, then had a Baba sling when she was bigger. Lifesavers if you have a clingy baby. I also had a bednest which was great.

Also used cloth nappies if anyone is looking for advice on them hippy

iamdivergent · 20/08/2014 13:48

I used bambino mio cloth nappies Grin

OP posts:
poppet85 · 20/08/2014 15:09

Oh yes cloth nappies !! I ve just started looking in to them and trying to make a desision and convience dh they're a good idea

Siarie · 20/08/2014 15:18

Doctors appointment was great, he did a huge form full of all the basics for my referral to my local hospital I think. I also got some medicine for severe morning sickness (I had it before and got really bad) so I've got that for my holiday in case I get bad again.

Feeling really pleased, it seems all quite real now! Fx it goes well.

Bearsinmotion · 20/08/2014 15:36

We use Tots Bot easyfit - very impressed with them and they cost ~£350 all in - much cheaper than disposables!

Cupcake92 · 20/08/2014 15:47

Fx crossed Michelle :)
And that's great news Siarie!

Oh no I don't do cloth nappies. My friend has put me off them. Her son wears them and every time he has an upset stomach it leaks out and goes everywhere and drips onto the floor. And I can't imagine washing pooh in the washing machine :s I like morrisons nappies. Never leaked at all for me. Tescos leak and aldi and even pampers leaked for my DS! :s
We only spend £10 a month on nappies.

Siarie · 20/08/2014 16:44

I've seen some really cute cloth nappies, I mean when I was a baby my mum used cloth ones. BUT I don't think I could do it, mostly the smell? Like washing them and putting them in the washing machine, I assume that's what you do?

I just couldn't do it and then wash my own clothes after in the same machine, I know that sounds silly.

iamdivergent · 20/08/2014 16:59

We had the bambino mio full set, we got it as a new baby present when we had dd1. With them you have the outer cover, the inner bits and then you get a little roll of liners too. So you fold the inner in a certain way (different ways for girls/boys/night/upset tummy etc) and then cover with the liner (which catches the worst of the number 2 and can just go in a nappy bag); then the inner goes into the cover - we only had 1 leak in 4 years of using them!

Nappy changes is just whip it off, put the liner in a nappy bag along with wipes, then your inner into a nappy pail (filled with napisan solution) and you can reuse your cover! I did a nappy wash every second day, they dried really fast on the line or dryer. Found it so easy, though I did notice that clothes nowadays aren't made for cloth nappies, they're too tight to fit properly.

Obviously if you're going to use them, I'd recommend that you get them as early as possible to get the most money savings and they can be used for subsequent kids and I even managed to sell mine for £50 after 4yrs use (I really looked after them!).
