TTC when DH works away

SingingSoftly · 16/06/2014 14:40

So DH and I are now officially TTC :-) Although, according to my phone, it was pointless, because this is not a fertile day. July and August it won't line up either. He will be here for one fertile day in September. We won't have a really good opportunity until October. It's so frustrating - I'm so excited and just want to get on with it now the decision has been made!

Anybody else in a similar situation?

still no AF... still no bfp... I am not known for my patience....

on a brighter note DH is back tonight And home for three whole nights yippee Wink

SingingSoftly · 01/07/2014 06:20

How many days late now ladies? Are you normally regular? Sounds good, you must still have a chance as long as no AF!

Due to my irregular cycle, the dates on my phone app have now changed and it's claiming today is a fertile day. BUT I've been using the ovulation stick things and haven't had a positive result this morning. Does that mean I have no chance? Today is the last day of DH Sad Those who have used the sticks, how many days in the month do they give a positive result?

hi singing I've never used the sticks so can't help u with advice. how long have u been off birth control to have such a long cycle? maybe your body just readjusting...?

i stopped in January and first cycle was almost 50 days I think. then 32,31,32 and now on cd36!!! so i was quite pleased i was regular so soon as per BC my periods were very irregular.. my last AF was crazy light though... so light I think its a problem of not enough hormones by my logic anyway. this month I've had terrible hormone skin/moods/bloating. I think its gonna keep on as bfn and its just a blip month hormonally (again...)

how long does your DH go away for?
I think if your cycle is all over the place just go for it and hope for the best, after 6 months TTC I think not knowing when 'the right time' is, is less stressful than timed DTD.

SwimmingBee · 01/07/2014 19:17

how are we all today?

sorry i have never used the sticks so can't help. mainly cause i know how frustrated i would get if was ovulating and dh wasn't here!

still no sign of af here, now approx 18 dpo normally expect af at 14/15 but get a good indication she is on the way. still nothing in the way of pms Sad

Butler4 · 01/07/2014 20:39

Hi all can I join in? Dh works away for 2 weeks and then home for 3 weeks. We have been ttc number 1 for 18 months roughly. It has been hard going but we battle on. We have July left before he will be away when I ovulate for the next couple of months after that! Oh the joys.

Butler4 · 01/07/2014 20:43

Singing softly i usually use opk at night from roughly day 10, they start getting stronger for me at 13 days and then a positive at 14 which means I ov between 12-24hrs after that. Creamy cervical mucus is also a good sign of ovulation. Hope that helps.

SingingSoftly · 02/07/2014 08:10

Thanks Butler, and welcome Smile. Ah 18 months, that must be tough going. So do you find the sticks useful? I tried it again today, the lines looked pretty similar, but maybe it will get stronger. I think I will continue to use them over the next few days so that I know what a positive result looks like even though no DH [sob].

NewLeaf he is 7 days on, 7 days off. So the crucial point will have passed by the time he is back I suppose. Haven't taken the pill in ages, this is just my 'normal'. Cycle length can vary up to 7 days. Actually, thinking about it there is no actual point in me even looking at the phone is there haha! I know, the sticks are probably not a good idea and I should just go with the flow. DH says I should stop stressing. But at least this way I will find out whether it's worth jumping on him as soon as he gets in, or if I can let him have a sleep instead Grin

hi all! been quiet as have had DH home for four days what a .. treat? Wink

AF finnnnally arrived for me 6 days late so im quite happy she's here then she can do one and we can get down to business on the next cycle.

wishing all u ladies a wonderful weekend Grin happy baby making! Wink

Butler4 · 05/07/2014 14:13

Yeah it's tough going but we keep trying. Hard going when dtd becomes quite planned but we have no other option. Yeah I find the opk's normally work really well. I only use the cheap eBay ones.

NewLeafExpat · 10/07/2014 16:21

hello ladies! how are you all doing? almost a month has passed since our group gathered... hope things are going well for you all whoever has DH back.

for me DH is back tomorrow night, off Saturday then away again so I'm planning my moves... going to make it happen this month! (thinking positive!)

SingingSoftly · 13/07/2014 15:04

Hello! I am nearing the end of my first 2ww. Never have I been so excited to count down the days to an expected period Grin As it turned out we dtd the day before my best opk result, so the timing was pretty good this month. Fingers crossed!

Hope you had a good time with DH NewLeaf!

OP posts:
NewLeafExpat · 13/07/2014 15:18

ohhh singingsoftly that sounds very promising! my fingers r crossed for you!! when /if are u going to test? have u had any symptoms?

because last month I had a way longer cycle than normal I have no idea when I'm going to ov this month so only expecting AF right at the end of the month. that means for now I'm carefree and have managed to keep the spark alive without being TTC mad as I was the past six months! (wait until 25th then I'll start my symptom spotting heeheee!) Wink Grin Grin

SingingSoftly · 14/07/2014 04:22

Good on you for being carefree! I have been frantically googling symptoms... I normally don't have a very good sense of smell, but I seem to be assaulted by smells all over the place just now and a little queasy, but then again it could all be in my head! I know we would have to be pretty lucky to have success in the first month, but who knows. If no AF by the weekend that would be a good time to test, however DH won't be here so don't know if he would want me to wait for him... maybe I won't ask him!

OP posts:
NewLeafExpat · 14/07/2014 09:32

Well I hope for you that you dont drive yourself crazy with the wait... Grin I've been there!

My first few cycles I was teetotal, convinced I was PG, symptom spotting like mad (and had stronger symptoms than more recent cycles!). I'm not sure whether to tell you this or not, but have you heard of the website "countdowntopregnancy" its a symptom spotters dream/nightmare based on symptoms specific to each DPO.

anyway. I always say i'm not going to test until day X but end up POAS 'just to see' a few days before the time limit i impose on myself. this is always when DH is away like my hidden pleasure!

good luck to you my fingers are crossed and you have to let us know Wink

SingingSoftly · 16/07/2014 08:22

Sad No! Not PG! Disappointing, but hopefully I will ovulate next time DH is back and we will have another, better, chance.

OMG New Leaf that website is amazing!! I will have to try to prevent myself from reading until the next 2ww! (And then imagining myself into all the symptoms!) So are you TTC your first DC?

OP posts:
NewLeafExpat · 18/07/2014 10:11

hi singing

Damn! sorry it wasnt your month. Onwards and upwards and if its only cycle one then hopefully you can jump on it next time.

Yeah we are TTC#1 since January this year, tbh we havent been trying that hard, but from being 'carefree' this month actually it seems we are trying harder!! hopefully the timing is right....

i bumped into a friend last week who is 4.5 months pregnant!!! we moved abroad 3 years ago and met here thinking we would live in this country for 6 months (3 years and counting now..), got married here around the same time... now shes 4.5 months pg... Hmm ive got some catching up to do...

my cycles have been around 32 days but last month was 38 days or something. im not using any ovulation sticks, other than checking CM and using a calendar and guesswork so last months long cycle has thrown me a bit as to when im ovulating this month... scatter gun approach?! Grin

NewLeafExpat · 18/07/2014 10:17

swimmingbee how are you doing?

and butler are you making the most of july? I saw you said july lines up with DH's schedule and mother nature, otherwise you're out for a while!? Get busy! Wink

Its like creating a bloody spring/neap tide trying to align DH's schedule with ovulation...

Butler4 · 18/07/2014 11:56

Hi yeah dh got home on wed night so we are in the fertile dtd window just now. Then we are out until October so not the best but we will survive. Hope you are all well and making the most of time with dh'

SingingSoftly · 18/07/2014 14:33

Go for it Butler! Wink

Yes NewLeaf there seem to be a few bumps and births in our friendship group at the moment as well. We met up with a couple with a 6 month old recently and he was so lovely, just makes me so broody! Luckily DH seemed quite charmed as well - I sometimes do wonder if he has keen as me. Snap with your story about moving abroad and thinking I would stay 6 months ... I have 4 years now!

Swimmingbee when we last heard from you you were still awaiting AF! Any good news?

OP posts:
SwimmingBee · 20/07/2014 15:11

hi everyone. sorry for not posting for awhile been a hard few weeks waiting for af to arrive, which it eventually did 3 weeks late Angry i really wasn't well during that time but af has been and gone and hopefully we are back in the game now, so onwards and upwards!
hope everyone is ok? do we have any good news? x

NewLeafExpat · 23/07/2014 02:19

hi swimming!

I don't think anyone has any good news yet but I am feeling positive! I think/guess/estimate I am 1DPO/cd22 today and soooo hoping this is our month!

DH is away for four days now so fingers crossed we don't miss it!

2ww countdown starts NOW! Wink Grin

SwimmingBee · 23/07/2014 20:58

lets keep the positively going! Smile

SwimmingBee · 23/07/2014 20:58

*back Friday!
stupid predictive text

SingingSoftly · 24/07/2014 09:05
