A thread for anyone TTC with a ClearBlue Fertility Monitor!

Morning ladies!! I was hunting around for a recent thread for anyone TTC with a CBFM but couldn't find any - please let me know if one is ongoing that I didn't find!! But otherwise I wanted a place to share experiences with other ladies using this rather interesting gadget. It makes big claims for success!!

About me - I'm TTC baby #1, cycle #3, expecting AF or BFP on 2-12 June.

I'm still having slightly long cycles after stopping the pill - this is my first cycle using the monitor properly, because my last cycle went on for 40 days, and the machine got bored and stopped asking for sticks after 25 days!!

I'm currently on CD09 and had my first day of a high reading today, although I know the machine gives out high readings like they're going out of fashion so not reading much into that! Will be kicking off the SMEP (sperm meets egg plan!) from today though anyway just to be sure.

Would love to hear from you!! Smile

I had evap lines first two days of testing every other day since that it has been one thick line on the left side of the stick that is getting fainter each day Grin with cbfm sticks the fainter the line gets the closer you are to OV

TheGrandHighWitch · 27/05/2014 10:40

Ok just to clarify, are we working on the basis that the left side of the stick/left line is the line nearest the dipping end? So nearest to the middle of the test? Because that line for me has been getting fainter while the line furthest from the dipping part of the test has been getting darker. When it was darker than the first line, that's when I got my peak result. They more or less match today with the second line (edge one) being just a fraction darker I think.

Final result on my microscope is transitional at best but that took 4 tries (kept repeating the test to make sure as prev 3 tries came back with not fertile results which didn't tally with the monitor).

Sorry ChandlersFarang I wasn't ignoring you honest. Yay on the darkening lines for you. Best of luck that ovulation comes friday or that you won't have to wait until then (incidentally what does fx stand for? Confused). I personally don't think you'd be unreasonable to insist that your DH leaves a sample of his own behind for you to use just in case he is away when it happens for you Grin. I finished the bottle of cough medicine last night to pull out all the stops but if nothing happens this cycle then will look at the grapefruit juice for next month.

hedwiggity · 27/05/2014 10:54

When i say left side i mean the point end that goes into the monitor first so its the furthest part away from the pee absorberSmile

hedwiggity · 27/05/2014 10:56

Fx - fingers crossed Grin
Looked at my tests for the last 3 days running and there is a vv faint 2nd line it isn't darkening but its staying there Smile

warriorbot · 27/05/2014 12:20

I got loads of highs but it never spotted me ovulating this month. I'm still getting to know my cycle as this is my first one off the pill. I think that my CBAFM is as confused as I am! I'm going to skip the next month of testing (yeah, right. Like I can resist peeing on a stick...) and wait until I properly know my cycle. I just hope I don't take too long to bounce back from cerazette!

Caitmous · 27/05/2014 13:25

Hi ladies, can I ask a quick question of you? If you've been getting high or peak results then the monitor goes back to low, does that mean you're not pregnant? If you were pregnant would they remain high?

I think the booklet said it could predict pregnancy but I don't get how.

TIA Smile

TheGrandHighWitch · 27/05/2014 15:16

Hi Caitmous. No the monitor will not indicate pregnancy in that way, at least the original one doesn't, I am not sure about the newer one. When I last used it to TTC, I had 12 low readings after my high and peak ones and I had conceived.

Caitmous · 27/05/2014 15:33

Thank you Grand! Phew. I have the old one too. Fingers crossed for another few days then.

I have been using mine for four months and only got a peak once - last month on cd19. No peak this month oddly but dtd lots around day 19 anyway.

Great to read this thread and get lots of advice and positive stories. Thanks everyone Smile

TheGrandHighWitch · 27/05/2014 16:30

Thanks for that hedwiggity. It is strange though as my lines seem to be the opposite of yours Confused. Here are the pics of mine over the last 3 days to show you what I mean. Pic 2 are the same tests but looking though the back of the test iyswim.

No problem Caitmous. The sticks can be used to detect pregnancy but tbh they would probably pick it up later than a hpt would so you should already know lol. It would look like a standard 2 line hpt result I believe.

Just a quick one hedwiggity to say that I just saw your earlier post on the june bus thread re cramps and nausea. I just wanted to say that I have also had those over the last few days. Apparently the nausea can be caused as a reaction to the ovulation hormones (here is a link with ovulation symptoms - www.clearblueeasy.com/cycle-and-ovulation.php). So it sounds like you are a couple of days behind me. Smile

blankfornames · 27/05/2014 21:05

That's very interesting to see your tests TheGrandHighWitch. Happy Peaking! I'm on CD12 and this is my 3rd day 'high'. My tests look very different to yours though. The left line is still very dark and prominent compared to the second line, which is still faint.

Can anyone explain to me what an evap line is? I've googled it but am still confused! Cheers!

hedwiggity · 28/05/2014 00:10

Evaporation lines or "false positives" are sometimes lines thAt form in the test and cause hope and false sense of happiness in other word they suck big time i hate them yet love them at the same time i love them because its like a little taste of what a BFP is like And i hate them because they upset so many peopleHmm

hedwiggity · 28/05/2014 00:11

Does Anyone on here use iphone 4s for the mn App ?!? How the heck do i see pics on here i see them when i go online but never see or get the option to upload my own Confused help

ChandlersFarang · 28/05/2014 03:52

Hiya Hed... Good luck with the ov pains!! I use my iPhone too and you can't see the photos on the app. What I do for a quick look is click on the 'share by email' link (click the top right hand corner when you're in the thread) and that brings up a link to the thread in a draft email - just click on that or copy/paste into a browser and you'll get the thread in a normal web page, photos come up there! Smile

Warrior - I've been having all sorts of fun since stopping Ovranette in Dec. this link is very informative:

Fx you'll be on track for normal cycles quickly! Mine have been a bit long.

On CD23 today and fortunately starting to see a second line on the sticks in last couple of days. Will see if I can work out how to post a photo!! It's helpful seeing yours Grand, thanks! You can see a real progression with yours...

DH went off on his work trip earlier after a thorough attacking!! Ha ha!! We only have 36 hours apart thank god so hoping that doesn't wreck anything this cycle. I buckled and bought the cough syrup yesterday!! It's actually quite tasty... He he... Reminds me of when I used to sneakily drink a little bit of calpol from my mum's medicine cabinet when I was a teenager because I loved the taste!! Shock

ChandlersFarang · 28/05/2014 04:24

Ok so the second line is super faint still but it's there! The LH line is the one closest to the dipper strip - so on the left in these pics!

Hello ladies
I'm on my first month and have had about 13 highs! I think it's missed ovulation as ff and the other opks I've done have shown a positive so hoping it's just getting used to me ( it's the advanced one)
Great to hear positive stories. I've had 5 mc and am trying naturally for 6 months before maybe ivf so hoping it will work for me!

ChandlersFarang · 28/05/2014 05:02

Hiya Mel, welcome!! So sorry to hear you've been struggling... Wishing you lots of luck for the next few months then! Smile As you've probably seen from posts here the slew of high readings is totally normal. I'm using the CBFM for the second cycle and had high readings ever day since CD9 (now on CD23!).

How come you're up so early? I'm in Bangkok which is my excuse Smile

MissyF · 28/05/2014 05:13

So getting loads of high days on the first cycle of using the cbfm is common? I'm in my 6th high day on my first cycle with it and I'm panicking a bit. I have pcos and have been ovulating but am scared this will stop. Only usually had 3 high days max on other cb tests

MissyF · 28/05/2014 05:16

Ok I didn't see the most recent posts, especially the one right before mine saying it is common. Still a bit panicky though..

MissyF · 28/05/2014 05:32

But I don't understand it. I started getting highs when I expected to and would have usually ovulated by now. Or is it just that the monitor is super sensitive to whichever hormone it is?

blankfornames · 28/05/2014 08:32

Thanks a million Hedwiggity!

TheGrandHighWitch · 28/05/2014 09:02

Morning everyone and welcome to Mel3062 and MissyF.

I have no idea why my tests are so different then. Here are pics of this mornings test which gave a high reading but I think that may be automatic after a peak anyway. As you can see, the left hand line is the darker one and the right hand line is barely visible. I can only assume that either the hormone levels are different in me or perhaps I got an odd batch of tests and the paper inside is the wrong way around Grin. I will test tomorrow to ensure I go back to a low reading but after that I probably wont test again until I need to. All signs are pointing to ovulation having happened so just got to hope that my witch powers are stronger than the other ones and I can keep her away Wink.

Does anyone else also chart their temps? I was 36.4c yesterday but this morning at 5:40ish it came in at 36.5c (higher than it has been at all this month but barely...) and I went back to sleep. Woke up at 7:15ish so took it again and it came up at 36.7c but I don't know which reading is more accurate. On the one hand the earlier one should be the one to go by as I had had more sleep before taking it but on the other hand, we have switched to a lighter duvet and a fan was on all night last night so am thinking that may have cooled me down iyswim.
