A thread for the older ttc'er. Join us in the chicken coop for support, advice or just somewhere to rant.

Here's the old thread for those wanting to do serious lurking:

Best. Side effects sheet. Ever.

I would get that printed onto a T shirt if I were you Grin

Hello Annie! I was thinking about you earlier- someone on another thread is thinking about starting meat again for IVF, as she has heard so much about the benefits of a low-carb, protein rich diet. Take a look at this study! Small and not peer reviewed yet, but the results are pretty gobsmacking..

Good to hear from you fankle!

Gingerbreadlady1 · 11/07/2014 18:02

fankle it's real! So lovely to hear you're well. Do you have a bump? Have you told everyone?

mampam you lurking? Hope the sickness is better.

Seriously, how amazing are the side affects (puking aside)? Must be 'cause it's only mad hormonal woman who take them so they all use them as a cover!

annie your near me, I'll hook you up Wink

stubborn don't think my levels are high enough to be a tumour but apparently they're usually benign so not too worried.

My bumper on line ttc purchases have been arriving over last few days (coincidently when dp away for work Wink)

Excellent side effects! Yes, off you go shopping, stuffing your face and gambling- Have fun!

Yeah, beginning to get a wee bump now even though I'm not quite 15 weeks. Think that's quite soon to start showing. I've gained half a stone but not quite brave enough for maternity wear yet. Most of our friends and all our family know now. I've even told work which made it suddenly seem very real! Everyone has been so nice and so happy for us. I won't say the long wait was worth it or anything (although hopefully one day I'll be less bitter about the long wait) but I do think I appreciate every little thing much more than I would have if it had taken 6 months to conceive...instead of 2 years and 6 months! My gran used to say "what's for you won't go by you"...maybe I was supposed to struggle with this just long enough to be able to genuinely genuinely want and appreciate it.

AnnieHoo · 11/07/2014 23:11

Aw Fankle great to hear you are doing well and it's really real now! Smile I can't imagine actually being pregnant with a real baby... My granny says that too, I believe it myself and gave recently even thinking like that ... This WILL make us stronger women, strong mums..

stubborn thanks for the link - results are pretty amazing. I've hear that some clinics advise drinking 2 pints of milk a day before IVF. Worth starting high protein diet now.

I've just ordered my Amazon ttc packages for this month. DH would murder me if he knew how much I spent on these effing sticks!!!

patch77 · 11/07/2014 23:47

Dr phoned dh today with his results. All normal. Now the hard stuff starts almost hoped that they would find something at least they'd know where to start. Referral to hospital now going through

:(

lucieloos · 11/07/2014 23:56

Hi there, just been lurking the last few days, sorry to hear that some of you are having a hard time at the moment Thanks

I just decided on the off chance to do an opk before bed as been having a few twinges and got a strong positive. I'm only on cd9 though which seems really early, I'm normally around 11-13. It's quite late now and not sure DH will be up to DTD tonight, I hope tomorrow will still be ok? So far we have DTD on CD 5, 7 and 8.

sebsmummy1 · 12/07/2014 08:42

Girls, this cycle looks like it's a pup already, can't believe it!! We had sex on Wednesday, cd 7, just for fun, normally gear my peak cd12/13. Would you believe my CBFM has screwed me over and given me lows straight to peak on CD10!!!

I am so pissed off as we were going to bd last night but I didn't want to as Big Brothers hideous sex show had made me feel ill. We have bded this morning and will this evening too and tomorrow etc but I feel like we have already missed the boat. Also why the fuck am I ovulating early this month? I have had lots of watery cm but no EWCM. it's a total head fuck.

I'm buying some opks today as I think the monitor could be wrong. I'm also thinking that my body is fucking me over due to age. These people that have 28 day perfect cycles are becoming an enigma to me.

stubbornstains · 12/07/2014 12:31

Oh God, that's so annoying sebs! Does a peak mean that ovulation has come and gone? Or does it mean that the egg popping out was imminent- maybe you caught it this morning? You could also have some sperm surviving inside you from CD7- I know, I'd never rely on that myself, but fo you remember smiler? She thought she ovulated 6-7 days after last DTD- and got pregnant! (I wish you'd come back to update us smiler).

I've heard the thing about the milk Annie, but I'm sure there are far far better ways to raise your protein intake- when I heard that I thought "Well, they might be fertility experts, but I don't think they know much about nutrition!" I have a deep suspicion that too much pasteurised cow's milk isn't too good for you.

Interestingly, I was on a low carb diet (to lose weight) when I conceived very easily at ages 35 and 38. It's giving me food for thought (as it were...)

Tilly73 · 12/07/2014 21:12

Just popping in to say still no AF or BFP just need to chill and enjoy my holiday now..we go tomorrow GrinGrin WineWine
Lovely to hear from you fankle glad everything's going well Grin

stubbornstains · 12/07/2014 21:44

How late are you Tilly?

Tilly73 · 12/07/2014 22:21

I've no idea now, before the mc I had 28 day cycles..I stopped bleeding about the 29th of May, so at least a week
Have read on the mc threads that you can miss a cycle so will just have to wait Hmm

stubbornstains · 12/07/2014 22:28

Yes, sounds like your cycles haven't got back to normal yet then. Hope AF shows up soon for you x.

Gingerbreadlady1 · 13/07/2014 11:46

Have a brilliant holiday tilly xx

OP posts:
sebsmummy1 · 14/07/2014 10:33

So opks are now negative. I guess I'm done for this cycle now.

Don't know if anyone saw the piece in the paper about Emily Lloyd falling pregnant with her first at 43. I know she has had a lot of mental health problems so im hoping she has a good support network, however I can't help but feel hopeful when I see those sort of stories. Also Claire Sweeney over 6 months pregnant and glowing having had multiple miscarriages.

I've just got to keep plugging away and one day we might catch a good eggy.

stubbornstains · 14/07/2014 11:03

Just try not to think about it sebs- it's well within the realms of possibility for sperm to survive 3 days inside us. We DTD with absolutely flawless timing last cycle- and nada Sad.

Gingerbreadlady1 · 14/07/2014 11:56

sebs did u catch my Eva Mendes 40 & preg post.

I'm in uncharted waters with my cycles this month, a question I'm hoping someone can help me with (dr google not so useful). Cd14, light pink spotting, no positive opk yet. Any ideas?

OP posts:
sebsmummy1 · 14/07/2014 13:39

Ginger they do talk about light spotting when ovulating. I have never experienced it but I've certainly read about it.

Gingerbreadlady1 · 14/07/2014 14:14

I've never had it either, still no positive opk. Will be delighted if i a) ovulate and b) at a normal point in cycle. Dr google also suggests it can be due to hormone imbalance. Hmmm, we'll see.... Me ginger is away mon-tue the thurs-fri,

Thanks for reply stubborn. How's things with you?

OP posts:
Gingerbreadlady1 · 14/07/2014 14:14

Mr ginger that should say.

OP posts:
Gingerbreadlady1 · 14/07/2014 14:18

Sorry, meant sebs, duh! Don't know about you but I always feel relief after dtd marathon.id keep testing for a few days just in case...do you usually get ewcm? Was it still a no show?

OP posts:
KeeperOfTheZoo · 14/07/2014 14:34

Am I enough of an old clucker to join you ladies? I'm 36, TTC #2. DS has just turned 2, conceived him after around 3 months of trying but worrying already that it won't be as easy this time!

Not using OPKs/temping or anything for now, just DTD EOD throughout the month - worked for us last time and in a wierd way it kind of helped not having that pressure put on ourselves for those few days around ov - we never knew when ov was so just went at it regardless!

May change if we go a few months with nothing though - I am the type to go from "just a bit of general research" to "all-out control freak and trying every method going" in about 2 hours flat!

Here's to a few more BFPs for the old birds Smile

Gingerbreadlady1 · 14/07/2014 14:45

Hi keeper, loving your name. Yes, yes, all old birds most welcome here.

fatty where've you got too?

OP posts:
sebsmummy1 · 14/07/2014 16:54

I do usually get EWCM, but then I also usually don't get pregnant lol, so maybe a change is as good as a rest. I did get lots of watery milky cm so I guess that's something.

I'm just tired and deflated mainly. Convinced I'm menopausal and sick of TTC. How about you?

Gingerbreadlady1 · 14/07/2014 17:10

Snap! A bit unsure if anything will happen post clomid so just trundling along. The decision to go for ivf is helping cheer me tbh as feel that it's then kinda out of my hands.

OP posts:
AnnieHoo · 14/07/2014 17:47

sebsmummy I'm noticing the watery cm this month... beginning to think I've been obsessing too much about the egg white stuff and not dtd enough around the time of the fertile watery cm... maybe i've been missing the boat ....

Stubborn - yeah it was 2 pints of milk a day as well as drinking fresh cream boak - I've been on the steak and high protein this weekend - I love high protein/ low carb so no probs with sticking to that from now on. I usually lose weight on it too.

Got result from AMH test which came back at 14.5 which didn't mean anything to me but the nurse said that 6.5 was the average for age 40 and I'm 41. I'm clinging on to the positives here. Still, the AMH test measures ovarian reserve quantity not quality so doesn't mean much if they're all duff eggs but good for my obsessing with numbers... i need something to obsess about.. i am such a boring bastard these days .. I used to be a great laugh.
