How long to conceive number 2 (or 3, or 4)

Hi all,
Bet this has been asked before but can't find it on search. Also know the question is broadly equivalent to 'how long exactly is a piece of string?' ...
How long did it take you to concieve after your firstborn, once you had decided to go for it? We are at that tricky situation of deciding when, on basis 'if it happens immediately that wouldn't be good, but then if it takes years, also not good.' Suck it and see I guess (hate that expression) but interested in your experiences.

Same as for DD1 - 6 months.

Alibaldi · 21/08/2006 22:22

ds2 came along 18 months after ds1. Took roughly four months. Took 5years to conceive ds1.So was much better second time round.

lucy5 · 21/08/2006 22:23

Dd 6 months.
This one first attempt and boy was I unprepared. I am now 6 months preggers and still haven't got my head around it.

Piffle · 21/08/2006 22:25

1st - ds was unplanned I was also on the pill but had gastric flu, even though doc had said I had enough time between taking pill and puking, she was wrong thankfully might I add.
2nd dd- we decided in January we would try so I came off the pill on New Years day - got + test the next month.

now number 3 baby....
whole other kettle of fish
started trying when dd was 5 mths and periods returned
It has taken us 3.5 years with one ectopic along the way and couple of other early losses.
I am now nearly 10 weeks so far so good

Answer being you can never know...

IdrisTheDragon · 21/08/2006 22:25

We didn't exactly "decide" to go for it, DD decided to get conceived .

lizziemun · 21/08/2006 23:01

18 months for dd1 and 18 month for second unfortunley ended in a miscarriage in july so still ttc

MerlinsBeard · 21/08/2006 23:02

ds1 took 1 month
ds2 took 2 months

LieselVonTrapp · 22/08/2006 00:05

DD1 = 5 years
Trying for second = 4 years

controlfreaky2 · 22/08/2006 00:12

ds1 6 mths (ok)
ds2 1st attempt! (horrified at time but lovely now)

carol3 · 22/08/2006 00:57

All three were little, wonderful mishaps. In ten years of marriage have had only three unprotected moments all of which have resulted in babies.

eidsvold · 22/08/2006 07:22

no1 - about 4 months - aged 33

no2 - 1st time - aged 35

no3 - 6 months - aged 37

schneebly · 22/08/2006 07:30

DS1 - 2 months (age 23)
DS2 - 5 months (age 24

LadyTophamHatt · 22/08/2006 07:32

ds1- first time trying.
ds2-4-5 weeks, just missed the fertility window
ds3-was PG within 4 days of DH chnaging his mind form "no more babies" to "lets try again"

PG again now but accident.

I'm never having sex again....or if I do we will both wear full deep sea driving gear as we can't be trusted with condoms

liath · 22/08/2006 08:00

Dd1 - 4 years

Haven't used contraception since she was born and fell pg when she was 17 months old.

LOL at the wetsuit LTH! .

trinityrhino · 22/08/2006 08:02

fell first time with dd1
took a year of trying with dd2 but to be fair dh was in a submarine for four of those months lol

katierocket · 22/08/2006 08:02

DS1 - first time
second pregnancy - 2 years and a course of IVF! (nothing wrong just "unexplained secondary infertility")

LadyTophamHatt · 22/08/2006 08:07

TR, maybe that what I should get DH to do then.

A submarine will be even safer than deep sea diving gear

Moomin · 22/08/2006 08:13

dd1 - 3 months
dd2 - 2 years

it's really quite pointless looking at other people's experiences to help you make your mind up, other than to see that it really is as long as a piece of string! you never know until you try whether it will take 5 mins, 5 months or 5 years.

[btw sorry to hijack but been wanting to say this to katierocket for about a month now and haven't caught up with her HUGE CONGRATS on your pg!!!! see, I told you you'd get there in the end!! I'm so made up for you xxxxx]

1Baby1Bump · 22/08/2006 08:15

4 months ds1
4 months ds2

1Baby1Bump · 22/08/2006 08:16

ds1 age 21
ds2 age 22

katierocket · 22/08/2006 08:17

Thanks Moomin - really appreciate it, you were so kind to me when going through that. Sometimes it still doesn't seem real.

juuule · 22/08/2006 08:20

Ds1 - first attempt.

Conceived again when ds1 10m, missed m/c 3m later. Couldn't catch for the next 11m despite nfp methods.
D&C plus appt for tests. Then week before appt found out pg with ds2.

Moomin · 22/08/2006 08:20

It didn't for me either, right up until she was actually there in my arms. but for a few hours at least i was still in shock and wondering who she belonged to! it felt like she'd been away on a very long journey and i didn't recognise her anymore! i know that sounds daft but with dd1 i 'rcognised' her straight away as if to say 'ooooh it's you!' but with dd2 she had taken such a long time coming i couldn't really get my head round it. she's 1 in oct!! i really wish you a very healthy happy pregnancy - you deserve it.

SORRY stripeybumpsmum!!! such a shameless hijack

cherrypie556 · 22/08/2006 09:39
