How long to conceive number 2 (or 3, or 4)

Hi all,
Bet this has been asked before but can't find it on search. Also know the question is broadly equivalent to 'how long exactly is a piece of string?' ...
How long did it take you to concieve after your firstborn, once you had decided to go for it? We are at that tricky situation of deciding when, on basis 'if it happens immediately that wouldn't be good, but then if it takes years, also not good.' Suck it and see I guess (hate that expression) but interested in your experiences.

No 1 - first time of trying - aged 37.

No 2 - second month of trying (and dh was away for 5 days during fertile period in first month) - aged 39.

This was despite being told by doctors at my first birth that I was unlikely to conceive again easily, as "we usually only see wombs like this when we're doing infertility treatment"! I think this just goes to show how little is known about fertility. I have friends who've been trying for a baby for years and the doctors can find nothing wrong with them.

it took us one-and-half months to concieve number 2. I'd read on here about how it wasn't necessarily so easy, but then it was!

son conceived whilst on the pill (makes my husband a real man apparently!)

took 2 months to conceive our daughter. Tried like the clappers month 1 - nothing happened, I started a new job so was slightly preoccupied month2 so did the business once and fell pregnant. Hurrah!

louismummy · 22/08/2006 22:54

ds1 first time
ds2 first time

Olihan · 22/08/2006 23:01

ds - oops!
dd - 1st time
dc3 - another oops

Seriously cannot be trusted with any kind of contraception. Will be taking a vow of chastity when dc3 arrives.

magicfarawaytree · 22/08/2006 23:11

dd oops
ds - 1st time ( must have ovulated late that month becase in theory 4 days after ovulation!)
dd2 1st time and only time in 12 months!

wannaBe1974 · 23/08/2006 07:19

ds1 11 months
ttc now for 16 months.

I agree with moomin though, everyone is different, and every pregnancy is different. So often you see posts on these boards saying things like "I fell first month with my first, and we've been trying for three months now and nothing has happened - I'm beginning to think something might be wrong". And in reality ttc is such a complicated science and there are so many factors that come into play that generally those who fall first month are generally the lucky ones, hence why most doctors will tell you the average time for conception is a year.
