Hello all!

I've been away on my hols and will be off again next week on work travel. I'm still lurking and cheering you all on though!

bad my NHS midwife tried to refer me for consultant-led care based on it being an IVF pregnancy. I argued against it but she said her guidelines she had to. I told her to refer me but that didn't mean that I would go to any appointments. In the end I went with an independent midwife which cuts out all that sort of cr@p anyway. BTW, I'm happy to see a consultant if there is a medical need but not just because the embryo reached my womb via my cervix rather than a fallopian tube.

I had my 20 week scan this week. The baby looks fine (and is very wriggly) but there is a question mark over whether there is an issue with blood supply to my placenta so I will have another scan at 28 weeks. (So by the sounds of it, I might end up with consultant care anyway!) I can't believe I am over the halfway point now.

Good luck to all who are cycling now or soon!

vallinnapod · 16/04/2014 15:25

Glad to hear things are well Euro....time flies when it is someone else's pregnancy!! WinkGrin

resipsa · 16/04/2014 17:07

Oh Euro - 20 weeks already? I feel nostalgic almost! Glad all is well and hope the placental flow turns out to be nothing to worry about.

Stars - where are you up to in all this? And where did One go?

Val - how's the 2WW?

vallinnapod · 16/04/2014 17:18

Well, I alternate between the usual doom and despair to browsing maternity clothes and working out due date etc Blush

I have had hideously sore boobs since starting the progesterone (before the embies) went back so having to erase that as a potential indication. And also keeping in mind implantation will still not happen for 3 or 4 days... doesn't stop me prodding them every two seconds

May main metalling symptoms will be heartburn, uber sore nips and a canine sense of smell.

Ummm, and I can only tell you guys as I am too ashamed to tell anyone in RL...I rang a psychic BlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlush I know it is utter bullshite but I still did it idiot. So she said they are not allowed to advise on IVF (and legal matters and something else....) but she said I was very strong and strong enough to see this through to conclusion (note, not what the conclusion was) and that this conclusion will not take as long as I suspect it will. Also that she was seeing that there was a lot of pink Hmm Obvs if I am pregnant with twin girls I will give her number to you all Wink

Tame and Cups - how're you doing?

Am I right that before a FET, you take progesterone for a number of dates equivalent to the age of embryo so if mine are Day 5, then even if we're good to go on Sat, ET won't be until Weds or Thurs...

OP posts:
Turquoisetamborine · 16/04/2014 19:28

Val that's funny ringing a psychic!!! I hope you have twin girls, wouldn't that be amazing!!

Euro hope it all continues smoothly. Is this your first baby?

Who else is on 2ww?

I'm trying to stay away from the internet as much as possible. I'm feeling pretty depressed after my BFN and trying to focus on other things. I'll give it til June and then book our next IVF consultation.

Can I ask a question that I've been thinking about re my laparoscopy and hysteroscopy?

I only have one tube and ovary due to unicornate uterus birth defect but I found my discharge papers from my op last August and he just put left tube patent on the form. If he had found any other blockages or problems do you think he would have put that on the form?

I may be crazy but I'm kind of thinking now that if I have a patent tube, I ovulate monthly thanks to metformin, all hormone tests are normal and H's sperm count has dramatically increased to 40 million + then I should be able to get pregnant through more frequent sex. Sounds silly but when I used to BBT to plan my ov time we would normally only DTD 3-4 times a month. Maybe if we'd been doing it more often his sperm wouldn't be old if you know what I mean and more likely to knock me up. Sorry just musing.

Turquoisetamborine · 16/04/2014 19:29

Tame and Cups how are things going?

vallinnapod · 16/04/2014 19:41

Yes res for blasts you take the evil, evil bum bullets for 5 days and have the transfer on the 6th day.

Nothing stopping you giving it a try Turq...especially if it is mainly sex for fun rather than procreation.

Badhairday76 · 16/04/2014 20:08

Wow Euro - 20 week scan! Congrats again!

Vallinna - don't worry, I am going to stand up for myself. It's a bit more complicated because I had a crash C section under GA with my DS, but was really hoping for a V Bac this time, or to least the chance to try for one. I can't be induced because of the risk of internal rupture, but the induction was bloody awful last time (and failed anyway) so am not bothered about that. The consultant was all for it and said I could go 10 days past my due date before the dreaded C sectionuntil I mentioned this was an IVF pregnancy nd he then said I would have to have a C Section at 40 weeks unless I had gone into labour by then. I was really thrown by that, but he terrified me and said I had four times the risk of still birth after 40 weeks. He also told me I was more likely to have an abnormally large or small baby due to the IVF, so I have also been booked in for a growth scan at 28 weeks, Euro. I came home and cried, then got on the internet and ended up bloody furious since there is virtually no evidence to support either of these things. Sigh. I've been feeling quite stressed out about it all. My last birth was really traumatic and I really don't want a second section if I can avoid it. If either of you have any good evidence I can take to my next appointment (got another one with him at 20 weeks for some reason) I would appreciate it!

Anyway, sorry to you all for putting this on the IVF thread - I know how lucky I am to even be thinking about an actual birth! X

vallinnapod · 16/04/2014 21:16

Ahhhh, that's slightly different Bad. I was ready to get Angry on your behalf!! I have no evidence other than my anecdotal one Grin DS was Mr Average at 7lbs 7ozs! I have heard that the NHS Trust where I now live (was in central London for DS) induces women over a certain age (can't remember what!) at 40 weeks as standard which left me a bit Shock (I am still yooooooful so this isn't relevant for me Wink) My neighbour had a similar first birth to you and opted for a c-section for DC2. She said it was just incomparable. Really 'relaxing' etc...(IYSWIM!) as the emergency element wasn't there.

I had forgotten the evilness of Gestone Sad my poor arse.

tametortie · 16/04/2014 23:05

I am here in Czech!!

Very tired and travelled out but the hotel is lush and we are curled up in bed with BBC news Grin

Will update tomorrow after drs appointment and intralipids xxx

Love to all xxx

Turquoisetamborine · 17/04/2014 06:29

Glad you are there safe Tortie. Hope it all goes well!

Badhairday76 · 17/04/2014 07:52

Tame - that's really exciting!!

Vallinna'- am still going to fight to try for a V Bac anyway. The consultant kept pointing out I was super high risk for loads of reason, including the fact this is the 5th pregnanc, my two ectopic surgeries, and yep - my old age of 38! He even pointed out that the optimum age to have a child was 22 which I thought was most unhelpful! Hopefully I'll go into labour before 40 weeks anyway so can avoid the battle! Your birth sounds amazing btw - well done! Xxx

vallinnapod · 17/04/2014 08:11

I had no control over it Wink I was very lucky it was a quite night in the birthing suite and my midwife and DH collaborated to stick to my birth plan. Because it was so quick it was very painful. I kept insisting I needed to transfer to the labour ward for an epidural as I assumed my pain was normal and would therefore last for the next day or so but they stuck to their guns. I was very lucky, believe it or not I am quite excited about the prospect of doing it again Blush

vallinnapod · 17/04/2014 08:12

Feeling very 'periody' today and last night. In the scene of things my embies should just be hatching right now so can't put it down to early implantation.

This is such a mind fuck!

3dp3dt

Badhairday76 · 17/04/2014 08:42

Am keeping everything crossed for you, missis!! You deserve this so much. I'm not surprised it was painful - I thought labour pain was agonising. Unlike you, I am most definitely NOT looking forward to the prospect of doing it again!

tametortie · 17/04/2014 11:39

Val- fingers crossed for you xx

We have been to see the dr. Medication regime is all sorted and DH's sperm test is improved, not majorly but he is well chuffed!

Off for intralipids now...

Bearsandhoney · 17/04/2014 16:06

Hi everyone!

Res: glad you have arrived safely. It will all start feeling real now you're there! I'm sorry but I don't know about how many days you take progesterone for before transfer (I've never heard of it being dependant upon whether its a blast or not). I don't think I was taking progesterone before my transfers... I also had intralipids on this last cycle...

Val: my mum sometimes sees a psychic. I think if you can take it with a pinch of salt it can't do any harm! Twin girls hey SmileBlush! The 2 ww does drag. Fingers and more are crossed for you!!

Turq: I love the idea that you might get a surprise BFP, I say go for it. I am sure that you know your cycle by no, but perhaps just making sure you have sex. Every other day from days 5/7 through to 3/4 days after ovulation (or beyond) would be worth a try. I am sure hubbie would be willing to out the effort in Smile.

Euro: 20 weeks is fantastic. Maybe I misunderstand but I would have thought having consultant lead care would be a good thing. We have pretty good health insurance and I will be taking full advantage of all care I can get!

Bad: I have already been advised by an obstratrician that i will need a c section, and wouldn't fight for a vbac... My ds's birth was traumatic for both of us an I nearly had to have a hysterectomy (I have always wondered if this has played a part in my difficulties conceiving Dc # 2). Then the poor little guy was in special care for a week. I figure a calm, controlled c-section has to be a safer bet for me and any potential baby (if I am fortunate to get to that point!). What happened to me was rare, and I wouldn't want any one reading this to feel concerned for their births, I am just saying sometimes it is the end result that is more important (recovery from a C section is much harder, but a small price to pay for a safe delivery). Do make sure you consider what your doc says. Xx

Bearsandhoney · 17/04/2014 16:07

Doh! Not res: tame!!! Blush

tametortie · 17/04/2014 17:02

Bears- did your clinic give you intralipids?

Bearsandhoney · 17/04/2014 18:45

Hi tame: Yes, my clinic gave it to me. On the previous cycle I was given a strong steroid which i took for a short while, but this last cycle the intralipids were combined with a low level steroid which I stopped in day of transfer (can't actually recall the names though but can check).

eurochick · 17/04/2014 22:06

bears consultant led care= more appointments and more fuss. Not great for someone who hates hospitals. I feel that for me it will just increase stress levels. Also, after such a medicalised conception, I felt very strongly that I just wanted to be "normal" for a while.

turq this is my second pregnancy but the first one to get this far. I miscarried the first one (from IVF#1) at 8 weeks.

Badhairday76 · 17/04/2014 22:50

I feel the same as you, Euro. I already feel abnormal to be technically infertile and tubeless, so want a 'normal' pregnancy and birth, if possible!
Lots of the consultant appointments also seem to be unnecessary. I have to go back and discuss my blood results even though I have been assured they are absolutely fine - gah! I can see why some women might find consultant led care more reassuring, but I am finding it a lot more stressful. Am fed up of them going on about age as well. Am only 2.5 years older than I was when I had my DS at almost 36, but at aged 38 they seem to go on about it so much more. I still think I'm a spring chicken!

tametortie · 18/04/2014 15:42

Our donor has given us 16 eggs and 14 have fertilised x
