Hi all. As promised, a sparkling new thread that is going to see a lot of action in the next few weeks, I hope!

Thanks! Embies are a little slow - they are both only 5 cells and should be between 6-8 today. There has been a tug-o-war all morning between the consultant and the embryologist each phoning me in turn with a different plan - the consultant saying wait till day 5 and the embryologist saying we must go ahead today. l wish they could have had a little chat before phoning me (bit annoyed). In the end the embryologist said we should definitely go ahead today, that they know more than the consultant in terms of embryo development and that although they are both at the same stage there is a clear lead embryo.... so we are taking her advice. Fingers crossed its the right decision, am feeling a little bit stressed. My worry with leaving it to day 5 is they might slow down even more and we'd be left with nothing and given we only have 2 it's 50/50 anyway. Oh dear.... calm thoughts, calm thoughts!!

Onelittlebugbear · 02/02/2014 11:00

Calm thoughts! If there is a clear embryo leader then there is no disadvantage to transfer at day 3. If it implants it would have implanted at day 2, 3 or 5.

Fingers crossed for you x x

Badhairday76 · 02/02/2014 11:03

Calm thoughts indeed! Surely the embryologist and consultant could have sorted this out before speaking to you. It's not fair to give you the stress. But just think - you will be joining our PUPO club very soon X

Onelittlebugbear · 02/02/2014 11:13

No they should largely take the decision off you - they should know what's best!

Bunnygirlie · 02/02/2014 12:17

Anybody with BFPs wanna come join me stressing and worrying? time hat bad?

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/1983925-Anybody-else-just-found-out-they-are-PG-with-their-first-after-TTC-12-months-plus?

Bunnygirlie · 02/02/2014 12:17

bug yay to being PUPO!

one Grin at mounting BFP onto a plinth lol

one calm thoughts! I was always advised to take the embryologists advice and we had a 3 day transfer.

Onelittlebugbear · 02/02/2014 12:24

Just spoken to the embryologist. She does not seem massively thrilled with how the embryos are going.
We have:
2 at 2 cells
2 at 3 cells
1 at 4 cells

They are putting the 4 cell back tomorrow. She doesn't think there will be any to freeze and she said the shell of the egg is very thick - don't know why this would be but I I guess with dh's less than great sperm and my thick eggs it's probably what's been causing us the problem. Heaven knows how the sperm that made ds got through!
I'm disappointed but I don't know why as I never expected it to work if I'm honest.

So it will be a 3 day transfer.

Badhairday76 · 02/02/2014 12:52

Don't lose hope, One - IOTO as you know. Did you have ICSI?

Thanks for the invite Bunny but I am too scared to join any pregnancy threads yet. Am still terrified this BFP will turn into a chemical every waking moment!

I am still super bloated. About to go to lunch and I bet somebody will ask if I'm preggers. Am im my fat jeans x

Onelittlebugbear · 02/02/2014 12:57

Yes we had icsi.

It was just her tone if voice. She sounded really despondent, like - 'I've worked really hard on these embryos and they're still a bit shit.'

eurochick · 02/02/2014 13:03

cwtch the embie I have on board was a 5 cell slowie at day 3. It made 6 cells just before transfer when they did the last check. All my embies have been on the slow slide.

resipsa · 02/02/2014 16:28

One - I think embryologists are by nature guarded so maybe don't read too much into the tone. I had a Day 3 transfer and she did not recommend taking the others to Day 5 but said that she would if we wanted (and that it wouldn't necessarily be money down the drain). We have (Grade 2) a hatching blast and expanded blast in the freezer now and at review the consultant conceded that the embryos might have been marked 'harshly' at Day 3! Both improved in Grade between days 3 and 5.

Onelittlebugbear · 02/02/2014 16:47

Thanks res x x

I guess I just think if only one (the 4 cell) is where it should be it probably won't turn out brilliantly. Why would the other four be a bit naff but one be ok? They came from the same factory production line! If I bought five tvs and four were faulty I'd assume the fifth one would be as well. I just have a horrid feeling they will arrest overnight. When I go in for transfer it won't have been 72 hours, more like 65 so not sure how much that matters but suppose the 4 cell should at least have done something by then!

Pipbin · 02/02/2014 16:49

Well I've stopped bleeding, which is something I guess.
OTD tomorrow, which I will do just to confirm and call the clinic. I shan't get up any hope as there is no way anything could have held on through that.

Any ladies who have had a failed IVF before, did you bleed after or before you OTD?

Hi Pip love. When my IVF failed I got my period a few days later, I think I had the beta blood test on a Tuesday and had my period at the weekend. But I think it varies from person to person. Will the clinic give you a review appointment?

cwtching · 02/02/2014 17:39

PUPO!

Transfer went fine! A bit uncomfortable (but no more than a smear). It was very surreal seeing the embie going in on the monitor. Feeling excited to have got this far given we only had 2 on-the-slow-side embies! Taking things a bit easy as still sore from EC so back chilling on the sofa. X

Onelittlebugbear · 02/02/2014 17:51

Yay cwtch.

Did you have two out back? Congrats on being PUPO!

Do they give you a rough idea of success chances when you have transfer?

Onelittlebugbear · 02/02/2014 17:53

I've been driving myself mad looking at success stories for people that had one low grade embie transferred at day 3!

vallinnapod · 02/02/2014 18:08

Pip with my failed FET I didn't start bleeding until I had stopped the cyclogest for near on a week, so around 7-8 days after OTD.

WannabeMaryPoppins · 02/02/2014 19:28

Evening all, hope you have all had great weekends
res yes am really excited about Friday. I'm having a 5 day embie put back. It is the last one from our cycle back in 2011 which resulted in DS. We had four frozen and this is the last of that batch. If it fails then its on to the little fuckers for round 2.
MY DH is a bit unsociable too. He very rarely takes the intiative so I have to do all the social organising but when we have people round or are out then he's fine.
one the embie I'm having put back on Friday is grade c (must be a grade 2-3 in the UK? Have no idea.) Anyway my consultant said that all this grading is a bit shit because it is one person's decision at a precise moment in time. No one can say what is going to happen an hour, a day or a week later. And all this grading is new and didn't happen years ago. You have no idea who was a grade a, b or c embie or a slow developer. I was also told that statistics are irrelevant for an individual. So hope that that helps a little bit. I do find it comforting but still find myself constantly checking the net as well.
cwtching and bugs congrats on being pupo!
pip I only ever bled after OTD and quite a few days after stopping all the hormones

I have a question for all those lucky enough to already have a DC sorry this is turning into a mamoth post What do you do when PUPO? My clinic has strict instructions on not picking up anything heavy and taking things eays until OTD. All well and good but DS is 21 months and so wants picking up constantly. DH is fantastic and comes home from work early and does all the night shifts until OTD so that I have to do as little as possible but I'm wondering if thats really necessary. So just wondered what the rest of you do? Carry on as normal? I could just milk it and be grateful every cloud has a silver lining but that seems a bit cheeky.

Turquoisetamborine · 02/02/2014 19:54

Congratulations on being PUPO Cwtch!!

Watching and hoping for you One.

Sorry I have no advice to add as a first timer but I'm grateful for all I'm learning from you all.

cwtching · 02/02/2014 20:15

Thanks ladies! One we just had one put back, we were given the option to put back two but I have a few health issues which would mean it wouldn't be a good idea to have a MP. So we are hoping the other embie will continue to blast and be frozen. They didn't tell me what the chances were for success (but we didn't ask either!). I was just told to relax for the next few days, apparently baths are fine(! ?) but no strenuous exercise, I also got him to tell DH no cooking or cleaning ;o) so I'm currently being waited on, lovely! The consultant instructed me to milk it as much as possible ... Doctors orders!!! Poor DH!

Badhairday76 · 02/02/2014 20:17

Hey Marypops - your DH sounds great. I have had to lug round my giant 23 month old everywhere for the past week and haul him in and out of his cot each night cos he is a demon sleeper and still has us up at least twice a night.

To be honest though, my clinic said to carry on as normal. I was told no baths or swimming for the first week but they said that was just because of opening my cervix. They said that there wasn't much I could do to affect the outcome, so just needed to be hopeful and patient.

Pip - been thinking of you lots. Hope you feel marginally better now the bleeding has stopped.

Cwtch - hooray for being PUPO!!

Badhairday76 · 02/02/2014 20:19

Just read your message Cwtch - I wish I had milked it a bit better with my DP. I've had no sympathy from the start!!
