Hi all. As promised, a sparkling new thread that is going to see a lot of action in the next few weeks, I hope!

And men - well what can you say? I've had to come to the view (for my sanity) that because it does not affect them physically, they don't quite understand how it affects us. DH seemed to 'get over' our recent m/c quite quickly but then he hadn't been injecting since 25 Oct, hadn't had pills and pessaries for 6 weeks over Xmas, hadn't had an altered physical shape at all and wasn't there to see the empty uterus on 7 week scan.

OP posts:
Onelittlebugbear · 01/02/2014 15:13

They are sometimes a bit crap res. It's a bit lonely really isn't it?
If dh had to do all this there is no way we would be doing it. He took to his bed for four days with a cold over christmas. I had minor surgery yesterday, have high sugars, an upset stomach and an allergy rash and have been left in charge of ds all day.

I rang my consultant because of my sugars and he said, oh yes the IV steroids you had yesterday will make your sugars quite high for up to three days.
Wish someone had informed me of this yesterday and was quite horrified to wake up with sugars three times the normal levels.

I don't know how many good ones we will get, we have 5 fertilised but they may well not all carry on and develop. I guess none of them might.

resipsa · 01/02/2014 15:16

Seriously, no one warned you what the steroids would do? They need to get some joined up thinking going at your place!

OP posts:
Badhairday76 · 01/02/2014 15:18

Hooray, One - that's brilliant! Glad you don't feel too bad after EC as well. I felt pretty sore for a good 2 days. You might well get to go to blast - most clinics say you need 4 embies at Day 3 to take them onto Day 5. Get practising your golf swing!

Badhairday76 · 01/02/2014 15:21

Sorry - missed Res's messages you said the same thing. Men totally don't get it. I stupidly told my DP about the faint line yesterday and he just kind of snorted and said 'don't get your hopes up yet' which was rather underwhelming, I thought. If it was my DP who had to go IVF, we eould have given up by now too! Women are much tougher than men though xxx

Onelittlebugbear · 01/02/2014 15:25

No one told me res
I was aware that steroids could increase the blood sugar but I wasn't actually aware I'd been given steroids until about 4 hours after EC when someone mentioned it - I thought I'd just had antihistamines.
I wasn't sure how long the effects lasted though and was worried it may be the progesterone which also raises sugars but because I only started taking that last night it seemed a bit early for it to take effect. Consequently I woke up with levels of 17 when they are usually 4 or 5 and was totally stunned. I've never had steroids before so I didn't know how much different they could make.

Thanks bad. I suppose I will have to wait and see, we would be very lucky to have 4 going strong by Monday though. We might not have any by then. See how optimistic I am about the entire thing?! I think I didn't feel too bad because I only had 8 eggs, I bet the more eggs you have the worse you feel because they have to bodge around more.

Dh is back now but highly unpopular. I've just threatened to leave him off the birth certificate of our hypothetical child. I'm very cross.

No wonder bug!

Are you feeling any better at all?

Badhairday76 · 01/02/2014 15:59

Ouch Bugs - that sounds awful.

One - I bet you will have 4 still going strong on Monday - am keeping everything crossed that you do!

I just caved and tested again - another faint line on a Superdrug test. No symptoms though, other than feeling knackered but that's quite usual for me...

Onelittlebugbear · 01/02/2014 16:03

I don't think symptoms or lack of symptoms means much. We've had so many hormones that it's impossible to tell what's causing what. I had no symptoms with ds until about week 6 and then was horribly sick for six month but up until then apart from the positive test I wouldn't have known.

It sounds very hopeful bad.

I can't move away from the toilet - sorry tmi. The progesterone has upset my stomach. It says to tell your dr if this happens - think it can wait until Monday? I'm hoping it goes off. I guess the general anaesthetic plus not eating for nearly 24 hours because of my sugars won't have helped. Argh. I just want a day where I feel well! Will it ever happen?!

Onelittlebugbear · 01/02/2014 16:04

Oh and thanks for your good wishes to my eggs bad. I don't think they are embies yet are they?
I wanted to ask them to play my embies music as I read it helps fertilisation rates but I thought they might think I was certifiably mad and refuse to continue treatment. I will hum them a little tune if we get to egg transfer.

Badhairday76 · 01/02/2014 16:15

Ha ha ha - I think you should ask them!

I did have symptoms with my DS but was 8 weeks when I found out (was on the pill and def not trying - one of those annoying women we now all dislike!) so I don't know when they started. I didn't have symptoms with any of the ectopics or my miscarriage though, which is why I worry. Still - am sure it's too early for that yet. Hope you start to feel better soon One x

resipsa · 01/02/2014 16:16

I have read on here that S'drug tests are v reliable Smile

OP posts:
Onelittlebugbear · 01/02/2014 16:22

What shall I ask them to play?! I'm fairly sure the article mentioned some classical music with waves that replicated cell growth (is that possible?). I'd like something catchier.

I'm thinking Born to be wild or How d'ya like your eggs in the morning (fertilised obviously).

Onelittlebugbear · 01/02/2014 16:23

I have also heard super drug to be good.
What about an early response? Would probably give you a nice dark line. I got a line at 9dpo with ds on a morrison's test but it was incredibly faint. Dh said there was nothing there but I was right and he was wrong.

time2deal · 01/02/2014 16:24

one I had almost exactly the same number of eggs and embryos. They are embyros as soon as they are fertilized. I had 9 egg, 1 immature, 1 failed during the ICSI, so 7 went into the incubator. I had 5 fertilize too. I took them to blast, and ended up with only 1, but so far it's the right one!

resipsa I use the superdrug ones. Good old fashioned line. I will admit to the fact that it is still in the bathroom, and I have been to visit it to check it still have 2 lines a few times. :)

Do you think normal people have 'favourite' pregnancy tests!

Onelittlebugbear · 01/02/2014 16:31

Thanks time

I do not blame you for have a favourite test. If we ever get another positive pregnancy test Im going to have it mounted on a plinth in the living room.

time2deal · 01/02/2014 16:33

I did a digi as well, although I do hate their smug ads. Seeing two lines for the first time in almost 4 years, I seemed to have a mental collapse and just didn't believe it.
Digi say 2-3 weeks. That one is beside the bed!!

Onelittlebugbear · 01/02/2014 16:37

The trouble with the digi is that the display doesn't last indefinitely. Take a photo! Have you already taken a photo...? Grin
I don't blame you. As I said I'm having any future pregnant tests if we are fortunate to have any mounted on a plinth. Possible encased in gold.

Badhairday76 · 01/02/2014 16:40

Ha ha - I used to be a POASaholic!! Superdrug are definitely the best, in my opinion and I too, loathe the smug woman in the digi ad, Time...

The internet cheapies are also good, although less sensitive than Superdrug. But the advantage is that they are soooo cheap, you can pee on them twice a day!

Onelittlebugbear · 01/02/2014 16:43

Yeah who says 'I've got some news, I'm one to two weeks pregnant'? No one, that's who. It's a shit advert.

I might do a test whilst the trigger is still in my system just to see the lines! I haven't even got to transfer yet!

time2deal · 01/02/2014 16:54

Haha one! I was totally going to do that! But never got around to it.

Of course I have a picture. Quick fuzzy as my hands were shaking. I sent it to my mum. Do this long enough and sending pee sticks to your family seems perfectly normal.

Onelittlebugbear · 01/02/2014 17:00

God some of my friends who got pregnant easy peasy have put photos of their pee sticks on fb for all to see so I think it's fine to share amongst family.
I must admit I did not wish to see the pee sticks of casual acquaintances.

resipsa · 01/02/2014 17:22

Oh dear, all this talk of tests has me obsessing about dates. Unless AF turns up soon, we'll be looking at ET in early April (which means an EDD around 25 Dec - eek!).

OP posts:
time2deal · 01/02/2014 17:30

My EDD is 8 October according to the interwebs. Not that I'm already obsessing or anything..
