Um hello, newbie, ttc, needing a place to talk to people :)

I've been reading the site for ages but decided to sign up as need an outlet and place to talk as ttc is quite secret and it's not something I have loads of people I could talk about it with. Plus I'm quite shy and my ovaries aren't something to bring up at social gatherings!
I'm 31, came off pill in October and me and boyfriend have been ttc since. I didn't know how long it would take to get back to normal as had been on pill for eleven years. Turns out it took four weeks, and am now on third AF since coming off, so annoyingly normal in one way! I'm getting my head round all this tracking stuff but don't want it all to get clinical with the fella as it takes the fun away!
So just wanted to say hi and hopefully share in people's stories. It's not all as straightforward as I always thought, and I'm always the one that would start panicking something was wrong with me. I'm pleased I found somewhere I can just write it down if nothing else.
So, hi, and hopefully can take some good advice away.

Oklahoma, conception leave is a valid request I believe haha Wink

KikiThePea · 15/01/2014 08:18

Morning!

Oklahoma - Saturday?! Noooo, too much anticipation!

mrsb87 · 15/01/2014 08:22

Lol yea dh actually said to me last night before dtd that im full of crazy baby making hormones! I asked him if that was a complaint hehe!

misskgb · 15/01/2014 09:37

So given that DH said he doesn't want me jumping on him at every given opportunity, I decided when he tried it on this morning that I wouldn't cave.....that way when I ovulate I don't have to miss dtd because we did it yesterday or whatever. Ra ha ha haaaaa....they know nothing really!! haha

Helen- I wrote down all our credentials the other day when we said them so no worries if you did have a note pad (I say wrote them down, copied and pasted them onto a word doc for quick reference!)

Oklahoma- how do we get conception leave granted when we're all doing this in secret, all being laughing out loud an awful lot and not being productive in the work place?! oooh we could all be founders of the next big thing if we can make it work!

What is dpo? I should know but mental block before 10am!!

Ladymillion · 15/01/2014 09:45

Is it days post ovulation??

cheshirem2b · 15/01/2014 09:52

Well now I have worked out I was a couple of days out on my OV this month (OPK finally gave a static smiley = peak yesterday and I had thought I'd missed it) I've gone online and bought some poas for future use! The 2ww has begun!

mrsb87 · 15/01/2014 09:52

So misskgb all they do before ttc is pester and try it ob when we have "headaches" and then when ttc they don't want us jumping on them?! What the actual?! Funny breed these boys.
From what I gather dpo is days past ovulation. Eg I am currently (only!!!!) 4dpo I think.

misskgb · 15/01/2014 10:00

ahhh ok thanks peeps. seriously- download pink pad or a similar app.....it will tell you when af is due; you can track how many days she stuck around, it shows peak OV days and the few days either side; you can record when you dtd plus all other things such as symptoms; weight; body temp and spotting. I put it all down on there so don't have to keep it in my head- removing one stress at least!

haha mrsb, spot on! Doesn't help that DH is working a lot so 1) he's hardly home and 2) when he is he's tired. I'm sure I married a woman in a man's body the way he goes on sometimes!!

mrsb87 · 15/01/2014 10:17

Know that feeling misskgb. I think he must be on his man period this week. Hehe. Bless him.

I have an app called mydays which tells you fertile days, ov days and when your next due af. Finding it quite useful tbh.

Helen87 · 15/01/2014 10:58

Misskgb- that's a good idea too actually, even though I have asked you all I still have to keep scrolling back to find the info!! hahaha I like the mind games you are playing on DH!

Mrsb87- I agree. Men are strange strange creatures. At least we can blame our hormones!!

Me and DH were talking last night and said the TWW can be kind of good to try and catch back up, because actually DTD every night or every other day is actually pretty knackering!!!

The apps are a definitely a good idea! It's so much easier to track what's going on because you will forget from one month to the next won't you.

I joined a thread where everyone is talking about the evils coming off the pill. I wish I hadn't because it was really depressing and someone was lecturing about how positives on OPKs don't actually mean your ovulating etc etc and if you have irregular cycles you need to go to the doctor because something is obviously wrong. So going forward only this more cheery thread for me!!

mrsb87 · 15/01/2014 11:19

Ive always had irregular periods...can't be much wrong as im still here and my doc has never been worried. Surely the opk's and to some extent hpt tests and results differ from person to person?

KikiThePea · 15/01/2014 11:19

Helen - that doesn't sound like a great thread! I think you'd have to have irregular cycles for a fairly significant amount of time before you could even suspect that 'something is wrong'. Irregular and regular are relative to the person in question - some people could always fluctuate between a certain number of days and yet wouldn't be considered 'irregular'.

Although the 28 day cycle is used in most explanations for ovulation etc, just clicking through a few threads on here will immediately show the enormous fluctuation in cycle times for people. In fact - just look at this thread. There are so many people with 'irregular' cycles that don't have a problem, just as there are people who do have regular cycles who encounter issues along the way.

I wouldn't worry about it until there was really a reason to.

misskgb · 15/01/2014 11:30

That's what you get for cheating on us Helen!!! Cyber slap for you today hahaha!!

I'm on a 24-25 day cycle atm...will see if it changes as I go forward coz obvs I'm still only just getting them back

What's TWW?? MN needs to update their acronym list!!

mrsb87 · 15/01/2014 11:32

The dreaded Two Week Wait misskgb.... I am currently smack bang in the middle of it

misskgb · 15/01/2014 11:52

boooo to the TWW

Helen87 · 15/01/2014 13:01

I think you're all very right. The poor person who was getting the brunt of the lecture had only had one irregular period, after having quite a few regular ones so it was really OTT. I think self appointed Doctors should be a bit more careful with their advice and scaremongering really. And like you say Kiki, quite clearly 'normal' can be very different for different people!

Yeah TWW is pretty shocking, definitely massive booooooo to it!!

I also apologies for the cheating, I've never done it before and I definitely won't do it again!!! Learnt that horrible lesson!

Today I have more back ache and light stomach cramps. Symptom spotting or more likely to be my first proper experience of none pill AF... who knows!!

mrsb87 · 15/01/2014 13:38

Surely the point of these forums is to share experiences and advise where necessary, not lecturing people? Some people do get a bit overexcited when they think they know it all.

misskgb · 15/01/2014 13:52

we're all just too honest as half the time our responses are 'I don't know' and we just ask more and more questions! i like it though, makes us aware of things to look out for!

Helen- I have faith our time will come! Smile

Helen87 · 15/01/2014 14:36

Yeah exactly. So much better to be honest and supportive than mean and lecturey!!

Yeah definitely. Hope it's sooner rather than later thoughSmile Smile Smile

binkybunny · 15/01/2014 19:35

Has anyone else on here bought anything baby wise as yet? Just seen a neighbour is selling a pretty much never used crib that I have been secretly coverting since decided I wanted a baby and its half the price of brand new. But can't decide if its a bit weird when we haven't even conceived yet?!

KikiThePea · 15/01/2014 19:37

How are you all this evening? Any exciting symptoms to report?

I've had horrendous backache since 4am - not af-style, but more like I'd spent all of yesterday carrying heavy things around. Fun...

KikiThePea · 15/01/2014 19:49

Hi binky - Personally, I'm completely paranoid about the whole thing and won't buy anything until much close to the birth. Saying that, I think you need to think carefully about these things if you see a good deal as it's all going to get very expensive, very quickly!

binkybunny · 15/01/2014 20:05

Kiki maybe thats your body getting you ready for carrying your bump!

I am a bit worried. My superstitious yet practical mum said go for it but the idea of buying a crib just seems so extreme to me. It is a good deal and I guess the more we can spread the cost the nicer things we can buy!

Helen87 · 15/01/2014 20:10

Ouch Kiki that sounds painful, but pretty normal in early pregnancy?

I agree it's pretty sensible to buy the crib, but I am also a bit superstitious and wouldn't want to jinx it! Maybe get it and store it out of sight?!

Just back ache and light cramps for me today!!

misskgb · 15/01/2014 20:19

Oh kiki :-(

Binky-my sister and a friend both had babies due between xmas and ny n neither knew what they were having. Me n dh bought a few outfits in the sales so we have a few left over that we'll keep but thats it

Don't think there's anything wrong with getting things whilst on offer but like helen says, maybe keep them out of sight??
