Evaporation line or BFP?????

blueskies19 · 24/11/2013 18:05

Ive been trying to conceive for many years and for the first time this last month I used the cheap ovulation predictor kits. They amazingly worked as I thought nothing would show up but a very faint line showed up at the start of ovulation which I confirmed with a more expensive brand that same day. Me and the partner only managed to DTD twice during that period.

I am 5 days before the start of AF and have bought the same cheap pregnancy tests and I have just tested today (not with FMU) and the result within 1 minute was a definite negative but going back to the test after 9 minutes there was a very very faint line (squint through narrow eyes and you may see it!) but there was a very pale line which over time has become darker.

I am convinced it is an evaporation line as I have been trying for 5 years and am almost giving up and am just about to go down the ivf route.

Does anyone have any experience of cheap pregnancy tests and do they more often than the branded ones come up with this evopration line?
I think I am just driving myself crazy with this as the instructions on the packet say DEFINITELY do not read the test after 10 minutes which is what Im doing but I guess Im just hoping for a miracle and would be more ecstatic than winning the lottery to get a BFP

Any advice greatly appreciated x

I've been lurking on this thread but I just wanted to say GOOD LUCK, I am really rooting for you!!!

I was in your shoes a few years ago & was just about to embark on fertility treatment when I decided to do a pg test a couple of days early...cue lots of squinting &...is there a line...isn't there a line, for a good few days. Everyone told me to just wait until I was at least a minute day late, which is easier said than done.

None of the pg tests were particularly conclusive but there was always a hint of a line, which I was told there wouldn't be at all if it was negative.

Anyway fast forward 9 years & my annoying, gorgeous TWINS are about to go to bed Grin

Just wanted to mention any pregnancy test I have ever taken has been very faint and just visible day AF was due.

I am currently 17 weeks with DC3 and could barely see the FR positive yet that was exactly 2 weeks after conception going by my scan dates.

Hope it's good news for you in the morning.

numberoneidiot · 26/11/2013 20:28

Fingers crossed for you!

MrsHY1 · 26/11/2013 20:30

Wishing you luck for tomorrow blueskies- I had a very faint line on a FRER the day my period was due- and I can be completely exact about that as I had a frozen embryo transfer from a previous IVF cycle. My first baby (a girl) is due next Weds Smile

Purplehonesty · 26/11/2013 20:32

Good luck op will be itching to hear your update tomorrow

tillyann2013 · 27/11/2013 07:13

Good luck blue skies!!!!

Munxx · 27/11/2013 07:48

Good luck, I so so hope today brings a BFP.

I can also offer hope about those faint lines that you need to squint to see, my pregnancy with my DS started that way. I thought I was going mad until I cracked and did a digi!

All the best, I hope there are two big fat lines for you. I really really do.

allchatnicknamesgone · 27/11/2013 08:42

Have you tested? You ok Blueskies?

blueskies19 · 27/11/2013 08:51

thank you so much and bless you all for your lovely kind messages which has really touched me

I feel blessed to have all of your support, practical advice and good wishes on this journey

Its so good to be in touch with you all who have the very BEST first hand experience and caring advice - think GPS should move over for the wonderful MN ladies who are first class :-)

Its so lovely to hear all your lovely stories and that all your faint lines turned into wonderful little ones - Im so happy for you all and this gives me real hope and inspiration that it could just be the case for me - maybe just maybe

well for the update...I again didn't get a wink of sleep last night thinking about the imminent test I was to do but I have finally done it and within one minute, squint and you can barely see it a very very faint line emerged and then within 10 minutes and within the allocated time a stronger and most importanly NOT faint line has emerged - yaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy - Im jumping for joy, escatically happy and boucing around that the line has not disappeared and is now very much there - feel like taking it to the GP to say its not all in my head but the line is really there - I may well frame it :-)

HOWEVER A real worry is that the line is not AS strong as the line I got yesterday morning with the FMU test but it is definitely a line and within 10 minutes not faint but quite clear. I really do very much hope that the fact that the line is not as dark as yesterday is not a cause for concern - it does worry me only because of my last few experiences with lines that gradually became less over time but I am just trying to enjoy each positive and just take a day at a time and Im just now focusing very much on the fact that the line is still very much there (if slightly not as strong as yesterday) and that perhaps I feel ever so slightly sick - now that is a cause for celebration - never thought I would be saying that!

I think Im going to bring in the big guns now and do a digi test - I wasn't going to do it but after this morning I think it may be a good idea - will let you all know how I get on with that

Many thanks again for all your support and kind words -its been wonderful to have this - I will keep you updated and let you know how the digi test goes xx

Blueskies yaaaaaaay!! GrinGrin
I drove myself crackers trying to get darker lines after my first positive FRER, then trying to get more and more 'weeks pregnant' out of a clearblue digi with conception indicator. If I were you, I'd lay off the pee sticks for at least a few days, I know- massively easier said than done though. X

tillyann2013 · 27/11/2013 08:57

Yay yay yay! So happy for you blueskies :))
You've given me hope!

LittleTulip · 27/11/2013 09:08

Aah congratulations blue, pleased for you! Grin

allchatnicknamesgone · 27/11/2013 10:21

WICKED! Had everything crossed for you. I second pervious post. Get a digi, but stop peeing on the Internet cheapies. You are going to drive yourself crazy trying to decifer whether the line is getting darker or lighter. Everything points to you being pregnant, so just try and get through today then use fmu tomorrow with digi (although something tells me you won't be able to wait!)
Come back and let us know xx
PS. I wish those Internet cheapies were never invented. I think on the whole they cause so many women like you so much heart ache.

blueskies19 · 27/11/2013 10:41

ahw thanks so much everyone :-)

(I wanted to put the flower icon and the big smiley grin but I don't know how to do it!)

yes Ive definitely stepped away from those internet cheapies allchat and will really try and hold out till tomorrow morning for the digi one if I can-now that will be a test of my willpower!

thanks so much littletulip and Im so pleased my story has given you hope tillyann - I had very much given up hope so fingers crossed for you and I really hope it works out very well for you. I was told my chances were crazily low so this should hopefully give hope to others.

I will indeed lay of those cheapie internet ones MrsHY1 - I was indeed driving myself crackers too with the testing and staring at the lines willing them to get darker and panicking when they came up hardly visible - it really helped not to test yesterday afternoon and evening and meant I could at least concentrate on doing the supper rather than telling the DH it was biscuits and cake!

will update as soon as Ive done the digi one xx

cantthinkofagoodone · 27/11/2013 11:13

Oh yay. After I got my frer bfp on the Tuesday am I did a. Cb digi on the Friday, just wanted to check I was still pregnant when I told my mum.

Now sit down and rest up like a good pregnant lady!

blueskies19 · 27/11/2013 11:13

Awh thanks so much sausagesaurus :-)

CatsCantFlyFast · 27/11/2013 11:18

Blue that's fantastic news. Couple of things to reassure you... The dye in tests varies massively, even in those from the same batch and even in expensive tests. Therefore two tests from the same batch with the same urine will provide different lines. So the darkness of the line is not an indicator of anything, its just about whether there is a line or not.
Take it from somebody who tested multiple times a day for weeks, and I often did multiple tests with the same FMU, the variance in the darkness of the lines is dramatic even over the course of weeks, so do not worry.
Final point, digi tests are often not as sensitive as IC's. Ive had negative on digi tests when ICs were giving two lines so please don't worry if the digi isn't strong enough to register yet.
In the meantime, celebrate!!! Fantastic news GrinGrinGrin And your doc shouldn't need to do a test to confirm your pregnancy, you should be able to do a self referral for maternity care and then sit back and wait for your booking in appointment

blueskies19 · 27/11/2013 11:20

ahw thanks cantthinkofagoodone - I will indeed do just that :-)

yes Im definitely going to do the digi one first and see what that says - especially due to all my previous experiences which all ended really badly :-( I need to go a bit carefully and best not to tell my family etc till I know for certain whats happening and hopefully the digi will confirm things in a big fat positive way :-)

will keep you updated x

blueskies19 · 27/11/2013 11:41

ahw thanks so much notwithoutmymerkin

that's so kind of you and really reassuring to hear about HPTs and how they react differently even over the course of days and weeks - thats most reassuring to know

I have heard that digs are not as sensitve so thank you for confirming this as well - perhaps the best thing is for me to hold off to test with this digi one till the weekend rather than dash my hopes by testing too early - I am a bit cautious and very concernced as Ive had many unpleasants losses and just desperatly want this one to go ok

thanks for all your support xx

Vickyvix · 27/11/2013 12:23

Woo hoo!!! Yey!!! Congrats blueskies that is fantastic news Grin

So so so pleased for you.

I would second the suggestion that the digi ones are less sensitive, they are so please please be minded of that if you test with one very soon you might not get a positive (of course you may very well do) but if you do get a neg just remember thy are less sensitive and so don't get too disappointed. If you can, easier said than done I know, maybe wait until Friday/Saturday to allow the HCG levels to build up more and to give the digi a higher chance of being positive for you.

I spent a fortune on digis ( with the conception indicator) trying to watch the weeks go up when I first got my BFP and was so disappointed if i didn't get to the next level.

Very very best of luck to you, I really hope this turns into a healthy and happy pregnancy for you :)

Ps I think ou are totally allowed to be excited about this!

blueskies19 · 27/11/2013 13:24

thanks vickyvix - that's so kind of you

yes I think that's very good advice about the digi testing and I will hold out till the weekend for testing with this as its not as sensitive as the IC HPT kits

given my anxiousness and worry due to the last experiences Ive had I think I want to wait till the levels have hopefully increased - all fx and tx for that one

Im trying not to get too ahead of myself but I just am thrilled and quietly bouncing up and down with excitement and happiness :-) xx

OP posts:
allchatnicknamesgone · 27/11/2013 13:48

I'd be bouncing up and down if I were you too.

Try and hold out 48 hrs before digi. Maybe don't even collect your fmu for the next few days so you are not even tempted, then you won't want to waste the money on digi using wee any other time of day!

tillyann2013 · 27/11/2013 13:59

So blueskies, what have you done differently this time? If anything! Clutching at straws here too.
Were you taking anything?

RaxacoricofallapatorianCatpuss · 27/11/2013 14:32

Smile OP everything sounds really positive! Smile
I would hold off on the digital test until the weekend. If I read it correctly, you are still pre AF? It's very early still. HCG levels are still really low, which is good for IC tests but a less sensitive digital test might not pick anything up and disheartened you.
It does sound exciting though. Fingers crossed for you. xxx
