TTC in January

lollzy91 · 23/11/2013 14:41

My DP and I have made a decision to start TTC in January! I literally cannot wait.

All I seem to be doing is looking on the Internet and finding out what I can do to prepare. Such and exciting time but I'm worried it could soon become stressful!

Anyone else on the January bus? If so how are you managing the excitement?!

January will hopefully be my first month after having a proper period after being on the Pill, so will be very nervous hopefully waiting for a BFP!

lollzy91 · 23/11/2013 14:56

I hope you get the BFP you will be waiting for!

I can't wait until January to start trying.. Time feels like it has stood still since we decided on a date!

I started taking folic acid last week and just trying to find out what else I can do to help things when January finally arrives.

Hoping 2014 starts off well :)

Here's to a 2014 baby! Brew (See? Even laying off the virtual wine) Grin

Sleepyhoglet · 23/11/2013 18:15

Not changing much here but taking well man and well woman tablets. Ovulate end of December so that's when we want to start for an autumn baby Grin

angelicjen · 24/11/2013 02:17

My pills run out early Dec so hope I will be on this bus. Exciting times!

lollzy91 · 24/11/2013 09:43

angelicjen fingers crossed timing works out for you and you get on the January bus :)!

So exciting! Trying not to count down the days.

Littlebear81 · 24/11/2013 22:52

Just finished my pill and aim to start trying January '14. Fingers crossed!

angelicjen · 24/11/2013 23:21

So how are you all going to handle the Christmas drinking dilemma? I want to be so good and do everything right, but I have loads of lovely events to go which will involve lots of nice wine. Not sure how good my willpower is!

Hazelbrowneyes · 25/11/2013 11:58

I guess I've found a thread where I belong Grin

EEEEEEK!!!

I take my last pill on Tuesday. TUESDAY. Shock

I've been on the pill for 15 years so this is a massive thing even without factoring in the TTC.

I'm not too sure how long my cycle will take to recover but realistically coming off the pill before now would have been disastrous so I'm just hoping everything sorts itself out quickly. In December we're just going to see how things go - not necessarily try but not not try if that makes sense? I will still drink, just not as much as I normally do. In January I will stop drinking as I do every year - I always have a dry January and then I'll just carry it on.

Hugely excited. I've had a few wobbles over the last few weeks but only because it's all of a sudden become real. A long chat with DH the other night made me realise I do want this and it's normal to be a bit overwhelmed - it's life-changing, after all!

I've told my DSIL as she's such an amazing person and I know she'll be able to offer advice, words of wisdom, etc if I need it. I also let slip to a friend the other day, only because she will be TTC around the same time as me.

angelicjen · 25/11/2013 13:01

Welcome Hazel! There seem to be quite a few of us gearing up for January.

I felt the same - it's been the plan for a while and I was totally chilled about it and suddenly it's really happening and I can't quite believe it. Glad your chat with DH helped. After being the one who was more reluctant, mine has also stepped up to being the calm, rational one while I spent Friday night in panic mode!

Are you all going to be temping, using opks and all the other things I didn't even know existed til last week, or are you just going to keep things relaxed and normal?

rockin20s · 25/11/2013 13:05

we are also gearing up to have a 2014 baby. got married in Sept and going on honeymoon over christmas. I should ovulate on christmas day so might be preggers by January 1st Smile

I cant wait! im know i should be getting excited ans these things can take time, but all i can think about is that this time next year i could be holding my baby!!!!!!!! Shock

rockin20s · 25/11/2013 13:08

angelicjen I started temping and using OPK last month so this is my second cycle doing them and we will be TTC in my third cycle. I find it very useful as I work away from home so its good to know then the fertile window is. that way i know if i have a 2 week wait or not.

saying that i can see how i could become very obsessed!

BeigeBuffet · 25/11/2013 13:18

Rockin You are my cycle twin! I'm also going to be ovulating on Christmas day and will hopefully get a bfp early Jan. Its our first as well so it's going to be absolutely life changing but we got married in August and this is something we both want.

I think we need to get a new thread to set the wheels in motion for the January bus. Hopefully we'll all have something to celebrate whilst everyone else is recovering from their hangovers!!

Hazelbrowneyes · 25/11/2013 14:09

Temping? OPKs? I have no idea what these are! I was just going for the "just shag" method Grin

I'm clueless about ovulation too. I also have no idea what length my cycle will be as I've been on the pill for so long.

I'd like to keep things relaxed to start with, although if after 6 months nothing has happened, I might get a bit more serious with it. I really, really hope it doesn't take too long as I don't want to get obsessed with it. I'm well aware it could take a while though. I love the idea that I might have a newborn this time next year though. I think about nothing else, actually.

We've been married for 7 years, 1st time TTC. I'm still unsure DH is totally up for it as he said I needed to be the one to make the decision about when to start TTC but now that I've made it, he seems quite cool about it. Today he's sent me links to a ralph lauren coverall and a ridiculous £50 shirt for a 3 month old. Despite the fact we'd never buy this sort of stuff, I'm grinning from ear to ear that he's actually seen it and thought about our future baby.

rockin20s · 25/11/2013 14:21

BeigeBuffet cycle twin!! woohoo.

I am currently hovering on the December thread but should be getting my BFP on January 8th i think.

I really cant wait till christmas now!

BeigeBuffet · 25/11/2013 14:33

Rockin Me too, I jumped on the bus as soon as I could, didn't want to wait out in the cold on my own, plus it's do useful to find out what everyone else is doing. Although it's pretty clear what we'll be doing on Christmas day! The thought of our little babies being around next year is wonderful, although mat leave in the dark winter days may be a bit of a bummer!

Hazel It's so exciting when DH becomes broody isn't it, my DH sent me his list of names the other day, lush!!!

rockin20s · 25/11/2013 15:00

wow! my DH is on board but it very laid back about it. if i talk about it and ask him his thoughts on baby names etc he just says 'we will see' very frustrating!

my two best friends know we are TTC and one friend in work who just had a baby herself, i haven't told the families as they would get too excited and i think that would be too much pressure!

the MIL already thinks I'm pregnant! lol I only had a small glass of wine at dinner last weekend and I think her imagination has gone into over-drive!

she was saying yesterday how 'good and happy' Im looking with a big smile on her face! I RAN from the house. DH just laughed when I told him

Hazelbrowneyes · 25/11/2013 15:49

Ah beige that is sweet. My DH isn't quite at that stage yet. I don't think he's the sort of person you could describe as getting broody! Although he's certainly becoming more child-friendly as the time goes by. Oh and we've tried the name discussion...his suggestions were terrible and we basically couldn't agree so I've given up. Grin

BeigeBuffet · 25/11/2013 16:56

I love coming on here and talking about our plans, I haven't told anyone in RL that we are ttc so it's like a secret world.

Hazel My dh is pretty terrified about the prospect of having a baby and giving up our mini breaks but he's an absolute history geek so he's taken it upon himself to research names and their meanings. I can't really imagine a baby Nebuchadnezzar though, but I like it that he is taking an interest. However he's been exactly the same as your dh when we started the conversation about ttc. I wanted an affirmative "yes, I want a baby" but all I got is a "ok, we will if you want to", although now that the decision is made he seems happy with it.

Rockin You poor thing, my MIL loves her wine and is always asking me to have a glass with her, she'd think the same as your MIL if I refused. Plus I have a SIL who's just had a LO and has offered me all of her baby clothes! I had to pretend really hard that I didn't want them.

Cakebaker35 · 25/11/2013 17:12

Hazel I came off the pill after 15 yrs and got pregnant immediately with DD1 - massive surprise but in a good way, had no idea I was pregnant until around 7 wks as just assumed I hadn't had a period due to my cycle being all over the shop, oops! Good luck!
I'll probably be getting on the January bus this time though as think this month's bus has left without us.
Good luck everyone Flowers

lollzy91 · 25/11/2013 17:46

rockin20s My DP is exactly the same, excited in his own way but so laid back on the surface.

It is so frustrating when if you're like me all you want to do is talk about it and discuss what you've been reading on the internet earlier!

Really is so crazy to think this time next year we could be holding our own little miracle in our arms!

I think the first month or two we are going to try and DTD every other day but I'm sure that could soon get too much if we don't conceive fairly quickly. After that I think it will definitely be the ovulation kits.

Anyone else trying without any help to begin with?

Thank you :)

angelicjen · 25/11/2013 18:35

Beige, you're so right about the secret world! I'm so excited but I don't want to tell any friends or family in case it doesn't happen and they keep asking. It's so nice to be able to get excited with you all Grin

It's also really nice to hear how DHs are being. I guess it's not quite the same for them. Mine definitely isn't thinking about it every second like I am.

He's also not up for being told when he needs to perform! I guess the obsessing could ruin your sex life.

KittyVonCatsington · 25/11/2013 18:51

I went shopping yesterday to pick up some Ovulation Predictor Sticks and some pregnancy tests, based on some advice from the Conception forum. I was just looking for about 30 minutes trying to figure it all out! Always though I was pretty clued up on conception and now realise there's a whole different side to it! I think I bought the right things and hope that
Boots own brand is just as good as the ClearBlue brand. It would be great of Mumsnet HQ put a "fingers crossed" emoticon on their list!!

KittyVonCatsington · 25/11/2013 18:59

I'm grinning from ear to ear that he's actually seen it and thought about our future baby. I know what you mean! Although it was me who started the ball rolling earlier in the year about being ready to finally TTC, I love it when my husband suddenly pops out with, "What pram's that then?" and other little gems when we are out and about, that show he is thinking about it in his own little way Grin

Sleepyhoglet · 25/11/2013 19:30

My DH is so ready but I'm worried about what I'll be giving up. I'm 26 so not as if I'm ridiculously young but I just don't feel convinced. I think I'd be terrified if I actually got a bfp in January but then I'd also be terrified if I didn't because I would worry that I was infertile and couldn't have children. I can't win. I have started taking folic acid a week ago in readiness, but when they time comes to ovulate I may just grab a condom! Argh.
