Clomid experiences

Hi All, I am new to all this, never posted before so feeling a little nervous!! Not quite sure I have got all the abbreviations and the language quite right!

My partner and I have been TTC for 18 months without success. We have been referred to fertility clinic and have had various tests, HSG, ultrasound, bloods etc all test results suggest that I am not ovulating. I have been prescribed Clomid, 50mg a day from day 2 of my cycle.

Wondered if anyone has any experiences of Clomid? Successes, how long it took to get a BFP and also side effects? I seem to have been getting headaches since taking the tablets, even after finishing the 5 day course. I also feel enormous! My tummy is so swollen! Anyone else found this? Confused

Xxx

Hi bee. I am on cycle 3 no bfp yet. What time are you taking the tablets? I took mine before bed to minimise side effects had a few hot flushes on this 3rd go though and I took in the morning for a change. Also constipation :s I also googled that you ovulate 5 to 10 days after your last pill which is early for me so keep that in mind! I also had headaches but realised this was from the vitamins I was taking! Good luck

BeeCymru · 18/11/2013 21:19

I took them in the evening, wonder if my headaches could be related to the Pregnacare tablets?!

I am back at the dr for day 21 blood tests on Thursday, hopefully they will show I have ovulated! If not fertility consultant said my Clomid dose would go up to 100mg for 5 days!

Good luck xx

I just take folic acid now and have no headaches anymore. I haven't even been checked if I am ovulating on clomid. I presume I am as I am having a period which I wouldnt have by myself. My next appointment is 18th dec if this doesn't work

FeatherFeather11 · 18/11/2013 21:43

Hi bee,

I did six rounds of clomid, starting on 50mg and finishing on 150mg - which I got pregnant on but unfortunately ended at nearly six weeks. It works for a lot of people and my fc told me that it 50mg rarely works for people so don't be disheartened if you didn't ovulate this month.

Agree with wood about taking the pills just before bed! And the hot flushes are killer but you get used to them.

Best of luck with it all
xx

Thanks both. I am trying very hard not to get my hopes up! I am fully expecting that things won't have worked this month and dosage will have to be increased.

Thank you both for sharing your experiences with me. Good luck to you both xxx

I'm on my first cycle. I've been feeling sick for a few days now, sore breasts, extremely bloated tummy. I took a test but it was negative. I'm going to take another one at the weekend but I don't think this is my month. Has anyone else had those kind of symptoms?

(I also cried at the snow out of the window this morning!)

xx

woodwaj · 19/11/2013 18:27

Whats the plan for you now feather?

When is your AF du Mahna, No symptoms like that for me!

Snow?! Hope that stays away from me!

Catinthebed · 19/11/2013 18:32

Hi both I and Dsis have Clomid babies but not at 50mg. It did turn Dsis into a bit of a hormonal monster though.

woodwaj · 19/11/2013 18:47

Its interesting to hear that so many people are needing a higher dosage, I wonder why they only do 50mg to start with! My doc didn't mention having to increase it he actually seemed to think this is all I would need, losing a little hope!

BeeCymru · 19/11/2013 20:35

My tummy is bloated too! I also find myself crying a lot for next to no reason!

@mahna fingers crossed for you!

I haven't got any plans to test unless of course AF doesn't arrive. Trying really hard not to get my hopes up!

@Woodwaj my FC said they start on low dose and increase slowly depending on your response to it to minimise the possibility of multiple pregnancy!!

I suppose they have a reason for everything even if they don't explain all of it!

BeeCymru · 19/11/2013 21:14

They really should be explaining things to you though xx

I think he would have if I had asked the questions. Its just harder to know what questions to ask until afterwards!

j200 · 19/11/2013 21:48

Woodwaj have you had any scans? I was told to do one month at 50g and then have a scan to see if I am responding - some people don't respond to Clomid at all and so should be moved onto gonal f injections (way more expensive though for nhs) x

MahnaMahna · 19/11/2013 21:49

Well I don't have periods so this will hopefully be my first cycle. I'm currently on day 24 of my 'cycle' so it should be in a few days I guess.

My GP is hopeless too. My old GP retired halfway through all of my investigations. The new one is very much 'take it and see'. I had blood tests 2 days ago, but no results back yet.

I'm not even sure when to test next. I'm assuming AF will come? x

BornOfFrustration · 19/11/2013 21:55

100mg turned me into a ball of rage but I got my baby after 3 goes, I was lucky. Good luck to those of you trying it.

woodwaj · 19/11/2013 22:12

I have had a scan during my first cycle internal and ovaries heard nothing back and I didnt follow it up mainly because it fell right in the middle of my house move im just going to ask about it on my next appointment.

I didnt have periods either and mine came right on time!

MahnaMahna · 20/11/2013 15:37

I think I'd be pleased with just AF at this point. At least it would show that something is starting to work. My breasts are at the 'touch me and die' stage today x

woodwaj · 20/11/2013 18:54

Is that normal for you? When should you expect AF?

MahnaMahna · 20/11/2013 19:16

No,not normal at all. I'm not sure when to expect it. I'm assuming that if the Clomid made my cycle a regular 28 day one, the Saturday. I need to try and get in to see a different GP really x

woodwaj · 20/11/2013 22:01

I had no cramps or anything on my first month so AF was a welcome surprise! Keep us posted

Buttercup01 · 20/11/2013 23:25

Hi, I have PCO and after TTC for over 2 years, numerous blood tests, a failed HSG and a lap and dye I'm currently cuddling my 8 week old! DD was conceived on the first round of clomid at 50mg. I was well monitored on clomid with 4 scans. Good luck!

MahnaMahna · 21/11/2013 07:27

I had a bit of pink spotting when I wiped last night. Nothing yet today. I hate waiting haha! X

woodwaj · 21/11/2013 07:34

Sounds good mahna! I hate going to the loo it takes over my life haha

congrats buttercup x
