Donor IUI?

MinnieMooMoo · 09/10/2013 15:12

Hello! Just looking for a group/quiche to join but not really sure where I fit it.

I'm intending to go it alone and have Donor Insemination by IUI starting in January providing my investigations all come back clear.

Any one else in the same boat, or has done it alone in the past?

I am just watching midwife too, about half way through. Radio times says it's going to be a really emotional one so not looking forward to the last half

pickle162 · 21/02/2016 21:36

Oh oh dixies on call worried she's going to be attacked

pickle162 · 21/02/2016 21:44

Nooooo :(

Kwick709 · 22/02/2016 08:21

Call the Midwife was so traumatic yesterday.... I need to find some safe things to watch... Any suggestions?

taydex · 22/02/2016 09:17

Morning ladies,

So, the every other day thing's working really well... Smile This morning, when I definitely did not test, honest guv... I got a second line again but I swear it is getting darker!!! EEEKKKKK!!!!! Grin

I can't bring myself to watch things like Call the Midwife or One Born Every Minute. I don't want to scare myself off all this! I'm happy in the knowledge that one day (and you can totally choose a day and time that's convenient to you) you just do a little cough or sneeze and they just pop out, all clean and wrapped in a blanket...

pickle162 · 22/02/2016 10:26

Eeeeeeek seriously I am so excited for you :)

taydex · 22/02/2016 11:20

Requesting permission to start getting excited now.....!!!

Oh, and I checked the maternity leave policy for my new job and actually it looks like I will get something after all. I thought there was a chance I'd get no pay from what I read before but it appears it's not so (clearly I'm just not very good at reading!).

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPP!!!! Grin

TD xx

Aw bless you both taydex & kwick - I'm trying my hardest to look after her and make sure she's comfy, doesn't need anything etc, and I seem to be doing alright at it haha! Just getting prepared for mummy mode for when my time comes Wink.

taydex I am over the moon for you!!! I'm so so pleased your second line seems to be getting darker - when was/is AF due? Ah bugger all willpower - test every day and enjoy it!!! How many IUI's have you had previously??

I've only just started watching Call the Midwife - me and Mum decided to start watching it on Netflix after hearing good reviews and whilst she's been convalescing, haha. We're only 6 episodes into the first series but I heard about what happened in last nights (Nan told me) - made me go all funny!

Hope you're all alright xx

Kwick709 · 22/02/2016 17:46

taydex permission granted!!! Was it a FRER and can you please share a photo?

Great news about mat leave :)

taydex · 22/02/2016 19:21

Hey Caution - This is cycle 5 of IUI for me. My clinic put me straight on to medicated IUI which worked OK (ish) for 4 cycles (didn't get me up-duffed but seemed to be going OK, follicles growing well, etc). They didn't really say why, I just presumed they knew what they were doing - they're the experts, right? But then after that we started 2 cycles where the drugs and my body decided to not work together and I kept prematurely ovulating before the follicles were mature (big) enough to be viable (so in my head these don't count as I didn't actually have the IUI).

So the consultant recommended I tried non-medicated IUI and it appears to have worked first time! Or at least got me further than any other previous cycle, either of which has got to be a good thing.

My cycles are generally quite short at about 25 days (they do vary a little too) - that makes AF due 15 Feb. In previous cycles (although I can't 100% say it's the same as they were medicated so would have messed up my dates) - my AF would have arrived roughly 19/20 Feb. Either way, AF should have arrived by now.

taydex · 22/02/2016 19:23

Kwik - Thank you! Smile. I'll see if I can work out how to attach a photo to this... don't hold your breath!!!

CautionHormone · 22/02/2016 19:42

Ah I see! It's strange how non-medicated worked first time - you would've thought it'd be the other way around, eh? It's quite a sigh of relief for me though, seeing as I'm going for non-medicated first too. Not saying we'll be the same and it'll work how it did for you for me, but it just goes to show that non-medicated can be just as successful as medicated!

Ooh AF should be well and truly here by now - such a good sign that it's not! I'm so happy for you, and can't wait to see the photo that you attach Wink. Xx

taydex · 22/02/2016 19:51

Caution

I guess if there's no reason for them to think there's any fertility issues then there's no reason why non-medicated can't work (in theory at least). For us, as a gay couple the main issue is we don't seem to be able to make any sperm, that's all Wink The many tests we both had didn't flag anything unusual up (well, at least nothing that they've told us about!!).

Thanks for pointing out when AF should have been due. I hadn't stopped to think about my normal timings pre-IUI. I had just thought about when it arrived on previous IUI cycles. That has really cheered me up as it means I'm even more well-overdue! Think I'm coming round to this really being an actual positive. Eek!

xx

CautionHormone · 22/02/2016 21:39

taydex you're right... As you said, non medicated should work well for ladies with no fertility problems, so I think I'll do non-medicated first, on the basis that it'll probably work just as well as medicated but without all the extra stress of self-administering different medications/hormones.

Ah no worries Wink. I'm glad you're getting even more excited - just goes to show that this really is a proper positive!!! Aw bless you, I'm glad it's cheered you up... But yeah you're right, AF is well overdue now so you can start getting excited! Let us know when you test again, I can't wait to hear you say it's got darker :)
You didn't upload the photo though - you'll have to show us soon!

My AF has been doing weird things since Christmas. My Jan AF was 6 days late, lasted for three days (usually lasts 5) and this Feb one, I was 5 days late and only lasted 1.5 days! I had absent AF's in sept, oct, and nov, but a normal one in December... Why oh why is my body playing me up?!! X

Kwick709 · 22/02/2016 21:47

Oh Taydex I am keeping everything crossed for you!!! Do you have any symptoms apart from bfp ?

I got some goodies today from Amazon (did I really only order yesterday or was it on Friday?) Anyhoo - the great "Right Time Baby" book has arrived, a 2 for 1 FRER and a relaxation CD for IVFers - did my first run this evening, it was very relaxing :)

And it is like the universe has heard me finally and a yoga studio is opening up right by where I live!!!! There used to be one but it moved... I am still not sure I can go before work on a morning as the class ends at 8am - a little late for me to then leg it to work but I am going to see what I can do. So happy! Now I just need to let the universe REALLY hear me: I want to have a baby!!!

CautionHormone · 22/02/2016 22:12

Ooh I love a good delivery kwick - especially when it's full of exciting things like yours are!!
What kind of baby book is it? I bought a baby book last year, where you fill in the first year of baby's life - it had a space for passport sized photos of relatives right back to great grandparents - can't wait to start filling it in when I can finally have my IUI's!

Ah great news about the yoga studio. I take it you enjoy yoga? I've never tried it personally but have heard great things about it.
I'm sure the universe will grant you with a beautiful baby when you've had your IVF! When do you go in for embryo transfer?? X

taydex · 22/02/2016 22:35

Sorry, photo to follow. My phone is broken (and in the shop getting fixed, hopefully) so I'm on the laptop...

Caution - Hopefully AF will calm down. I wouldn't worry too much about it. They can still work miracles, I'm sure.

Kwik - Nope, no other symptoms at all. I feel perfectly normal. I am hatching a list of things I did this cycle, which I will share with you all (if we have success), in case it's helpful. Yay for the new yoga studio!

CautionHormone · 22/02/2016 23:08

No worries :) just can't wait to see one! I always get excited looking at other ladies positive tests. I sound a bit strange, don't I?!

Hopefully they'll calm down. I'm debating on going to the dr to see what he says. He may send me for further testing which may come in handy when I start my IUI's too, because if they do a scan and find everything's normal, surely that'll count for something when it comes to having the IUI's? If that all makes sense lol. Xx

Kwick709 · 23/02/2016 08:00

Caution get as much testing done through the NHS - but likely the FC will ask you to repeat some of the tests.

Today I am having a scan and bloods taken - so they can check stimulation progress. No confirmed date yet for transfer - many obstacles to get over first - like producing eggs and successful fertilisation. One step at a time.
The book is a guide for later motherhood. I just read the IVF section - stress plays a really important factor so I am on a mission to reduce mine. First step doing some yoga this morning before going to the clinic. Namaste!

Taydex I am on quite a few threads and many bfps are accompanied by no symptoms! This could be a symptom!

taydex · 23/02/2016 09:53

Morning ladies,

Finally managed to take and attach some photos. The strips should only really be read in the 3-4 minute window and all of these are 24+ hours old (Thu, Fri, Sat and Mon I think). The one on its own is yesterday. The clinic assured me that any second line would show as positive on FRER.

Eugh. Technology! Here's the one on its own.

INeedNewShoes · 23/02/2016 10:05

Congratulations Smile

That is a most definite lovely BFP!

taydex · 23/02/2016 10:10

Hey,

Sorry about the pics. Clearly I'm not as good with technology as I thought! There's actually only 2 different pictures there. The strips do change a bit when you leave them for several hours. So you can see they've yellowed a bit (that's the wee, lovely!), and I think the lines have also faded a bit.

I tested my willpower this morning and didn't do a test. I will definitely do one in the morning and photo it in the 3-4 minute window.

Caution - No, not strange at all, I'd be exactly the same wanting to see the results! I'd be tempted to speak to your doctor about your periods. Can't do any harm, surely? I agree with Kwik - Get as many tests as you can done on the NHS. We had all but 1 blood test done on the NHS. The last one the NHS wouldn't do, so we had to have it done at the clinic and I think it was about £100 (I could be wrong there, but I do know we had to pay). Any money you can save on the tests means more IUI/IVF... Smile If you want I can dig out our old paperwork see if I can find out what tests we had done. Definitely lots of bloods, but an ultrasound and a hysterosalpingogram (or something like that - I think they call it HSG for short but I could have that acronym wrong).

Speaking of getting acronyms wrong... I know WHAT BFP and BFN mean, I just never knew exactly what they stood for, so in my head for some reason they've become bl*dy fcuking positive and bl*dy fcuking negative. LOL. Me so bad!

Kwik - Good luck with today's tests. I have my fingers crossed for you sweetie! Any tips on other threads to be involved in (I'm only on this one) or books to read? This morning I was sat in bed reading the rough guide to pregnancy... It's quite helpful, puts things in weekly chapters so you know what's happening in your body in any particular week. Not a massive amount of info for the IUI part but I still find it quite useful.

Right, I'm off to enjoy a day full of meetings. Fun fun!

Kwick709 · 23/02/2016 10:42

OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!! Taydex that is a lovely line!! Okay PLEASE do a FRER with FMU and then send us a photo!!! Then when you get bfp again insist that your clinic does bloods - and get your progesterone checked whilst you are there :)

Books: I only have 2 - will send you names wheb back home, maybe tomorrow as I have work dinner tonight... No idea where I will inject!

I had some fun with this acronymn: ISW - thought it was insane sex week but it is actually intense.

I think you will need to go on to a grads thread!!! I can recommend those too but not from phone.

I am at clinic awaiting scan...

taydex · 23/02/2016 12:39

Kwik - Just for you I will do a FRER Smile OK, so maybe not just for you... I am off to the clinic on Saturday as I will run out of Crinone on Sunday. I will insist they do a blood test then. My clinic also does some kind of scan to find out where implantation is to see if it's viable (and check it's not in the tubes or anything) somewhere between 35 and 45 days so I'll get that booked in too. By my calculations Saturday is day 37 so might see if I on a specific day at the weekend but we'll see...). If not then I guess it will be some time next week. I wonder what we get to see....

Ha ha, love the ISW! Smile

Hope it's all going well at your clinic today.
