Donor IUI?

Hello! Just looking for a group/quiche to join but not really sure where I fit it.

I'm intending to go it alone and have Donor Insemination by IUI starting in January providing my investigations all come back clear.

Any one else in the same boat, or has done it alone in the past?

So pleased this thread is still going. I was the OP and am unfortunately still childless despite two rounds of IUI and three shots of ICI at home. I'm on a TTC break at present as have found myself in a relationship but am keen to start trying again next year :)

Good luck to you all.

pickle162 · 21/09/2015 08:21

Oh k im sorry to hear that :( hope you can speak to someone today to give you more information.
Good luck for next round!!! Xx
Hi billi,
I'm pretty new here too but I think with known donors there is more the need to get a lawyer involved so everything is set in stone about what happens after conception. I'm going to a seminar at the London women's clinic about donor iui in October which should go over both unknown and known so maybe worth booking on something like that. Good luck xx
Hi juneybean, welcome back-thank you for originally posting all those years ago,ive found this post really helpful.sorry to hear no positive result but hopefully with your new relationship you never know :) good luck xx

Okay so my period came a day after discontinuing the crinone gel... A nurse from CRGH left me a message saying that to get my period I would have to stop the gel... I wish they had told me that the gel can stop periods sooner... I have been kidding myself that I was preggers as there was no bloody period... Forgive my language! I am sad but glad that I am on a crazy busy business trip as this sort of keeps my mind off it.
I wonder if they will still let me do IUI even without a baseline scan? What if I just monitor my LH and go in when I surge (if I am in the country)?
Billi77 welcome to the thread and juneybean welcome back! Smile
I think you can do IUI with a known donor (but perhaps not at all clinics) and of course there are legal considerations and you will most likely have to do implications counselling. Has your donor had their "produce" checked over... There may be issues there? Just a thought.
Wishing lots of luck to everyone! Kx

Billi77 · 23/09/2015 20:51

Yes, all checked over. Good count, excellent motility. Morphology not ideal at 12% but not bad either, I don't think.
Annoying about the gel though it like like you're getting closer and Closer to the end goal either way, so keep moving that way :)

Kwick709 · 24/09/2015 19:47

I guess i should know what morphology is but I dont...

Kwick709 · 04/10/2015 20:42

I just got my lh surge... I am going to try and persuade the clinic tomorrow morning to scan me even though I did not do a baseline scan or any interim scans... Please keep your fingers crossed for me! Kx

pickle162 · 04/10/2015 20:54

Fingers and toes crossed k, would that be so you can have another insemmination ASAP?x

Roonerspism · 04/10/2015 21:03

kwick I haven't been on this thread a loooong time.

But we have three donor IUI children. The last one I conceived by using OPK sticks twice a day. First thing in the morning and then about 3pm. Clinic was totally against this but I did my research.

If you have a surge, it takes a while to show in your pee. So you are very unlikely to ever see a positive OPK first thing.

I got negative OPK at 9am and positive OPK at 3pm. Donor IUI at 11am next day (no trigger). Was first cycle to try for baby #3 and worked first time, even with shit count.

Clinic wanted to do scans and bloods but they don't do blood tests every day so the option above was a much more accurate plan.

HTH. I find the logistics fascinating and clinics often operate to suit themselves rather than maximise success...

Kwick709 · 04/10/2015 21:13

Thanks pickle - yes I am going to try and do the deed again! Roonerspism, thanks for your post - welcome back - funny that I normally only ever tst in the am - but last cycle the consultant said to test twice a day. I will do my best to get a scan tomorrow and the iui - with donor sperm - on tuesday... Otherwise I will surely miss the window again as I am due to fly off on a business trip on tuesday pm....
I am so pleased to hear of your success with iui - congrats! Gives loads of hope to the rest of us!

pickle162 · 04/10/2015 21:53

Eeek exciting/scary.let us know how you get on tomorrow xx

Roonerspism · 04/10/2015 22:35

Yes - very best of luck.

I used to love seeing success stories when I started out, too. But donor IUI CAN work so stay positive!!!! I have quite a few friends who have had success. It took me a total of 7 cycles for four pregnancies (one m/c) so far better stats than publicised for IUI generally. I think that is common for donor IUI.

pickle162 · 05/10/2015 17:25

How'd you get on kwick?xx

Kwick709 · 05/10/2015 21:02

Thank you so much for all your well wishes Grin

I got a scan this pm and am all set for IUI tomorrow!!! The doctor did not seem to mind that I had missed the baseline and other scans.... I did go in strong with begging techniques though! She did the scan and found a dominant follicle at 18mm and 8.2mm lining - she seemed very pleased... So all systems are go!!!! I did the ovitrelle injection a few hours ago and am packing for my trip with loads of crinone gel. The nurse said that I should declump every 2-3 days after day 2 after insemination... I will see how this goes. At least I have no thrush this time and my bits feel less sore after only 1 scan. I have made a playlist for tomorrow (hope doctor does not mind One Direction!!!!) & will try to adopt a more zen like state... I got really worked up last time which did not help with getting the speculum in.... If only I could have a stiff drink prior! Only fly in ointment is that I leave tomorrow pm, back again late on weds, then fly out again on Thurs, back Friday late.... So, so much for taking it easy!!

Roonerspism - you bring hope to us all! I think it is very hard to rely on the stats... So many different variables - eg I do not know if I have fertility issues - I am doing IUI as I am single and have not been able to find another half. But my results get combined with those with known fertility issues.

Anyway enough from me! Good night to you all Smile!

pickle162 · 05/10/2015 21:12

Glad all systems go :) try and take it easy on ur business trips tho
This is the problem that I have with the stats there isn't much for us singletons who just don't have a dude but don't know what our fertility like. Best of luck :)
Na night all xx

Roonerspism · 05/10/2015 21:36

kwick very best of luck! I'm weirdly excited for you as I remember it well. You have no known issues so that is massively in your favour!

My unsuccessful cycles were when I was in a total state. You sound positively zen like! I also wonder whether taking it easy makes much difference. When baby #3 worked, I was working, had two other kids and drove South on hols.

Everything is crossed for you!!!

Roonerspism · 05/10/2015 21:37

pickle good luck to you too

pickle162 · 05/10/2015 21:54

Thanks roonerspism, I haven't started any treatment yet. I'm info gathering whilst I'm saving.desperate to get started but need to be sensible and save as can't get into debt before even began :) x

Kwick709 · 06/10/2015 23:00

Just arrived in Lisbon.... What a day! I did the deed this morning - much better experience than last time - it was really fast so discomfort much less.... Having my music to sing along too helped Smile. However have definitely not been able to get any rest in.... Just off to bed now.

pickle162 · 07/10/2015 08:20

Glad it was a nicer experience for you. Least you have lots of distraction to keep your mind off things.keeping everything crossed for you x

Roonerspism · 07/10/2015 08:31

kwick Cake and beer to relax and all the very best

taydex · 07/10/2015 12:54

Hello ladies,
Kwik - good luck. Sounds like a much better experience this time. I have my fingers crossed for you.
Roonerspism - thanks for the advice re testing for surge twice a day. I am definitely going to do that. I'm not 100% convinced on my clinic's timings following other stuff I've read on here and elsewhere online so happy to do my own thing (to a certain extent) re that kind of thing.
So, we're just starting on round 5 after a month off (and 4 unsuccessful rounds of IUI before). As I said, I'm not convinced by my clinic's timings so was after a bit of advice re time between positive surge result, ovitrelle injection, and Turkey basting. My clinic uses the following and I think it's too long: positive test morning 1, ovitrelle done at 6 pm on same day, Turkey basting done in the afternoon on day 3 (about 40-45 hours after ovitrelle). Reading around that seems too long (although every time I've whinged the clinic claim it's fine). I'm trying to give it our best shot this time. I'm happy to make up my own rules with timing and am tempted to get the clinic to do the turkey basting 1 day earlier (so about 22 hours after ovitrelle). What have other people been working to/what timings have worked for you?
Thanks,
TayDex x

Roonerspism · 07/10/2015 13:37

tay I find the timings fascinating and felt my clinic just weren't up to scratch as they weren't open on Sundays and could only take blood tests monday to friday. Useless.

After two failed cycles, I did my own research. My understanding is that it is best for the sperm to be waiting for the egg. The other way can work but is less likely to.

So in your case, what was the positive test on the morning of day 1? Was it a pee stick or the clinic's own blood test? If the former, then you probably would have got a positive OPK the previous afternoon (call that minus 1). So your own body would ovulate around 24 hours after that, say mid afternoon on your Day 1. So doing an IUI 2 days after that is unlikely to work.

I would OPK test twice a day - make your afternoon test after 2 ish. Do the IUI the day after your first positive OPK.

My clinic kept reassuring me too until I sent an email to the main scientific adviser guy explaining my concerns and asserting the protocol I wanted to do. He basically agreed with me.

taydex · 07/10/2015 17:23

Hi Roonerspism,
Thanks for your message. I'm so glad to see I wasn't going crazy with the timings. I will definitely test twice a day. I'm currently supposed to be testing only on 2nd wee of the day (yes, pee sticks rather than blood tests) but seems a lot of people say do a second one in the afternoon so I'll do that too.
Feeling much more confident with this round. Currently only on day 6 of my cycle, scan due Friday, in previous cycles that would have meant IUI on Monday but my clinic do weekends so could do a Sunday with this new timing showed that was best. I also have Ovitrelle injection to take to start off the ovulation so I guess do that the same day as the positive OPK and IUI the day after?
Thanks for your help.
TayDex

Kwick709 · 08/10/2015 20:30

Good evening! So I am now in Frankfurt and planning on an early night... Thank God tomorrow is Friday... Although i will not be back home until late Sad.
My consultant told me last cycle to check lh twice a day - up until then I had been advised to just do once a day. Last cycle I got the surge in the morning but this time it was in the pm - so glad I checked as it made getting sorted much easier ... i was on the case to get a scan appointment etc. TD my clinic does the iui the day after the lh surge.. Or if in the pm, 2 days after. I had my iui just before noon.
By the way I got into a bit of a flap when doing ovitrelle injection as my bigbro was waiting for me and I did not leave the needle in for 10 seconds.... I hope that has not scuppered my chances!!
Also this time nurse said to declump crinone every 2 days even if I do not feel discomfort.
I have been watching the "countdown to life" and am very conscious that I have not been eating enough leafy greens... My supper on day of deed was 3 portuguese custard tarts....
Night, night!
