How long before AF returns after stopping cerazette?

Hoping people who've stopped cerazette will be willing to share their wisdom!

I took my last pill 30 days ago and am still waiting for AF to arrive. I spent almost 10 years in total on the pill, the last three on cerazette, which stopped AF completely.

Me and DH are not planning to TTC just yet, but I wanted to give my body time to get back to its natural cycle after hearing about so many people struggling post-pill.

I've used OPKs (optimistic I know) to see if I've started ovulating again, but nothing so far. Have had very sore boobs but definitely not upduffed.

After doing a bit of reading it seems doctors consider it normal for it to take up to 18 months for AF to return after this particular pill, which I was a bit shocked by.

Can anyone tell me how long it took for them and reassure me that I haven't messed up my body?!

Hi I was on cerazette for about 7 years and when I came off it I think it took about 4 months to have a period but my body didn't feel normal(not that I had much of an idea of what was normal after 7 years!) For another few months after that.

Hope that helps.

AutumnStar · 01/10/2013 12:28

Thanks Dolly. I'm glad I've stopped taking it now to be honest. If I was TTC I'd be going mad!

Hiya, I didn't have side effects when I stopped it and I had a period after a couple of weeks but I think that's because I was so bad at remembering to take it while I was on it (3 years) that I had a monthly every time I missed one anyway :)

WellHelloThere · 01/10/2013 12:40

I was going to post this exact thing! I have been on cerazette for 2 years and stopped taking it 4 weeks ago as wanting to start TTC but still not started my period I am starting to get worried so seeing the GP tomorrow Ill let you know what he says

Dollybird86 · 01/10/2013 12:44

I stopped taking it as we wanted to start ttc and it was just under a year but I think that was mainly due to our crap efforts, I had a very early mc but got pregnant again mid jan and am now 37 weeks so it all worked out. I will probably go back on cerazette after the birth as I hate periods!
Good luck and don't let the horror stories scare you a friend of mine stopped taking it and was pregnant with 3 months.

AutumnStar · 01/10/2013 13:07

Sorry you're in the same boat, WellHelloThere. It's so frustrating isn't it? Just want to know what my body is playing at!

Please do report back if you don't mind!

Sorry to hear about your mc, Dolly.

I was on cerazette for about 9 months (on microgynon for about 6 years before that) and stopped taking it in mid August as we decided to start TTC. Period arrived 4 weeks after I stopped cerazette. So hopefully it will be just around the corner for you ladies! Though I am sure I am not quite back to "normal" yet -mind you, after so many years on the pill not sure I know what "normal" would feel like! Hormones are definitely still a bit all over the place - I have gotten so many spots on my face that I look as if I am 15 again!!!!!!

EasyCompadre · 01/10/2013 14:04

I got my first period 6 weeks after finishing my last packet, that was after 3 years on it. I then fell pregnant 2 months after that, and am now 10 weeks along with our first baby. Try not to stress too much, I never had any problems with cerazette, and haven't had any since stopping it either, I'm sure your period won't be too far away now.

mawinter · 01/10/2013 14:31

Unfortunately I am in the same boat you are in. 24 days now and it is wearing me thin. If you do a search on here you will find tons of threads about Cerazette and trying to conceive after it.

AutumnStar · 02/10/2013 15:48

How did you get on at the GP, WellHelloThere?

Hi. I stopped taking cerazette in 2008 & got pregnant a few weeks after. I also had very sore boobs & thought it was from coming off the pill but turned out I was pregnant!

Then went back on cerazette after I had my son & just stopped taking it again last month in the hope of conceiving number 2. My period arrived 3 weeks after my last pill.

I thought I had read that we are more fertile when we have just come off the pill?

AutumnStar · 02/10/2013 19:16

How long after coming off the pill did you realise you were pregnant, billygoats? I've been doing tests to make sure but all negative.

OP posts:
mawinter · 02/10/2013 19:57

Billygoats - Did you get a period after stopping Cerazette or just fell straight away?
AutumnStar - Like you I am getting Negatives, but tonight while out, I got really nauseous from the smell of Garlic, which I never do! Also doc gave me meds to make me feel better and I am only feeling worse off with each day. :/

3billygoatsgruff · 02/10/2013 21:39

Hi ladies, I didnt have a period after coming off cerazette as I got pregnant 14 days later! But didn't realise & then did pregnancy test 3 weeks later and was so shocked it was positive. Really hoping to be lucky again this time... on month 2 of trying now. Fingers crossed for us all!!

AutumnStar · 03/10/2013 10:47

Anyone have any news? I'm still exactly the same. Not even a hint of anything. Pretty sure I've not ovulated either. I'm a bit worried to be honest. Seems most people who've come off cerazette would have had at least a withdrawal bleed by now.

I need to stop googling because I'm finding far too many stories where women have been diagnosed with PCOS after taking it. Sad

Day 26 here, still no period. Lots of CM, Breasts changes (darkening, veins, etc), backache, mega bloat and nausea as well as major appetite.

AutumnStar · 03/10/2013 17:05

They sound like major symptoms to me, mawinter! I'm day 33 now. Had really sore nipples last week but that seems to have calmed down now. Just very bloated with a weird pulling cramp low down whenever I move too quickly. Just wish we knew what was going on!

OP posts:
mawinter · 03/10/2013 19:22

AutumnStar - I just really wish i would finally get a BFP or a period. I am going mad and people left and right telling me "Oh your hormones are just going out of whack" is beginning to get on my last nerve.

None of the crazy symptoms happened to me until about the 2nd, 3rd week off BC.
I have barely been able to do my job since going off BC because all day long I am either tired or nauseous. Thankfully i work from home, but its still bad nonetheless.
I suffered a MC years ago and this being "fake" pregnant or whatever is really messing with my head. :(
Previously whenever I missed a day of this pill or stopped it I would get a bleed quite quickly.
I feel very pregnant, but hey according to many out there I am probably imagining things!

AutumnStar · 03/10/2013 21:37

Sorry to hear about your mc, ma. Thanks.

Hopefully something will shift for us both soon.

Last night I went to bed early because my lower back really started to hurt badly and my stomach was feeling HUGE, so I could no longer sit up at the computer.
This morning I woke up at 6am and promptly POAS, which again was BFN, so I went back to bed.
Woke up at 8:22 and sat up to put on my slippers and felt this odd feeling in my stomach, had to race to the bathroom....
Now I warn the next bits may be TMI
I sat down and got a lot of cramping, but nothing too major. Mainly pulling feelings. I thought for sure AF has arrived. When i wiped there was some bits of light pink, like seeds or whatever and a small tiny tiny spec of blood (like when you blow your nose and break a vessel) and lots and lots of snotty mucous. I thought "w000 h00" something is happening and shouted "OH happy day!". DH asked "Are you pregnant?" and I answered that I thought AF is arriving.
Since then I have been to the bathroom twice to wee and all I see is huge amounts of mucous, but no AF and my cramps are going away. The backache is still there however.

AutumnStar · 04/10/2013 08:53

Hmmmm. That is weird! Isn't lots of CM a sign of pregnancy?? Do you think you've ovulated this month?

OP posts:
mawinter · 04/10/2013 10:08

I am not 100% that i ovulated, but I actually had three times EWCM, last month on Sept 11th or 12th, 22nd and the 29th. I only recently got some Ovulation Test Strips after the OBGYN said on the 26th of last month that she could find no signs of pregnancy.
With regard to lots of CM, I read it can go both ways, pregnancy and AF coming.
I am starting to feel really, really nauseous and faint today.

AutumnStar · 04/10/2013 11:16

It sounds really promising to me. I still feel pretty much the same. Got a huge appetite though. My boobs also feel quite sore and kind of heavy, but I'm still getting BFNs every day. Fairly sure I'm not pregnant though. It's the hanging about waiting that's driving me mad.
