Anyone about to start/just started TTC number 2?

1000 replies

mrsm22 · 03/09/2013 20:35

Hi ladies, I am 31 and have one DS already. After my DS I went back on the pill but have decided to stop the pill and start TTC baby number 2 and wondered if anyone was also just about to start trying or just started and we could follow each other and share as we go along. I literally have stopped my pill last week for the 7 day break, and am meant to start taking it again tomorrow but obviously won't be, so I am very literally just starting to try for number two but am very excited! That's why I thought it might be nice to go through it with other people who are also trying. I have heard some people say that after your first baby you are more fertile but I am not sure so I am really not sure how long it will take this time. Does it usually not take as long second time round? It has taken a lot for me to decide for definite that I'd like another as I had an awful time in labour with forceps and 3rd degree tears etc which really scared me and must admit I'm terrified of another scary birth experience.

Toothpaste I really wouldn't worry about the wine, if you are pregnant it will not have done any damage this early on as the emrbyo isn't connected to your bloodstream yet. 2 days before I had my BFP with DD I got absolutely hammered as I thought AF had arrived (it was implantation bleed) and was beside myself when I found out, but so many women don't know they're pregnant and drink before they find out and it really is not worth stressing about. Just stop once you've got that BFP!

Bubbless · 19/10/2013 17:55

Erm hi! Grin
Bit nervous so thought I'd just jump in!
We have started ttc about 2 weeks ago, I have a dd 9 months old, and tbh I'm bloody petrified about everything!
I'm finding it really difficult to feel attractive knowing that we are having sex to have a child.. Particularly as at 20 my dd was a surprise arrival!
Can I join in? Blush first day of school feeling

Toothpastekissesno2 · 19/10/2013 18:39

Thanks metal that's so good to hear. I did same as u with ds. Thought I had af so went out for my birthday and drank way too much! Luckily ds is all fine! Kind of don't want to put life on hold before even being pg. it could take ages afterall.
Hello bub! Welcome! I'm confused by what u said (prob the hangover!) areu 20 and trying for your 2nd? That's good going! I guess if last time was surprise u are new to the world of Ttc?

mrsm22 · 19/10/2013 19:15

Hi Bubbless - hi and welcome. Of course you can join. I started this thread at the beginning of September and already we've had 3 BFP's so pretty good going. I am also confused by your post , sorry are you now 20? It's unlikely to take you long to conceive if your DD is only 9 months as you are very fertile in that first year and immediately after the both plus you are very young too. Do you want your DC very close together?

Welcome Bubbles and well.done toothpaste for having the energy for date night Grin I actually read your message wrong the first time and thought it was a date with someone new. I thought you were being very forward ttc so soon! I agree with metal though - no need to stop drinking until after bfn. The placenta doesn't attach for a few weeks (or something like that) I have very fond memories of getting trashed on champagne cocktails before I knew I was expecting ds
It's actually the last time I was properly drunk as I've been pg or breastfeeding for three years now.

I'll read that Patrick Ness book anyway so am happy to go with something else for book club. Suggestions?

mrsm22 · 19/10/2013 19:55

Hi ATruth - I'd still like to read the Patrick Ness book but all depends on Stacks. What do you think to the Twilight saga trilogy (I think there's 3)? Or can you think of any others?

OP posts:
Stacks · 19/10/2013 20:01

It seems a shame to change he book you've all agreed on just because of me. I need to try and get I to the habit of reading again anyway, plus have a few projects I want to finish up for Christmas - I'm making a few gifts this year. So I'm happy to sit this one out. Anyway, as I've read it I'll still know what you're all talking about and be interested in your thoughts on it.

I'm feeling ok, still in shock really, and I keep getting the urge to poas to check I'm still pg!

Bubbless do I remember you from the dec 2012 threads? Our DS's are about the same age.

Bubbless · 19/10/2013 20:09

Stacks- yes! It's me! My dd was born 3rd jan in the end!

I was 20 when my dd was born, I'm now 21 and me and my fiancée have always wanted children close together!!
Sorry for being so unclear, was a bit nervous!

mrsm22 · 19/10/2013 20:19

Stacks - I can imagine you must want to keep poas to double check, but you are definitely pregnant and it's wonderful. You're like our lucky charm, you and Donna and Windywinston. Well if you're sure , I think we should press on with the original book chosen by ATruth!
ATruth - sorry for the confusion, I didn't want to leave anyone out who had already read the book but as Stack's is going to sit this one out , shall we go ahead with this one for round one? Did you get hold of it at the library? I still need to order it but will do that Monday. I hope you'll wait for me and we can start it at the same time.
Who else is in? Toothpaste? Bubbless do you want to join our book club? I think it's a good idea to keep us same while TTC and things tend to happen when you have other things occupying the mind.
Stacks - glad you're feeling well x

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 19/10/2013 21:32

Ok cool. I'm equally happy to stick with that book. The public library didn't have it, but I think the school one might. If not, I can get it for the Kindle, so can download it as soon as everyone else is sorted with it. I was going to start Death Comes to Pemberley on the earlier recommendation, but will hold off until after we've all read the Patrick Ness one.

Anyone else watching X Factor? Is it really, really wrong to have a crush on Luke Friend?

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 19/10/2013 21:32

Oh, sorry, I missed a question. No, I've not read the Twilight series. I got put off by teenage girls swooning over it, but apparently it's brilliant.

lucyjojo · 19/10/2013 21:36

Hi Bubbless and welcome along! Don’t be nervous! Have you set a date for when you’ll be getting married yet?
Definitely don’t worry about the drinking toothpaste, I did the same too with my DD, we were going for a night out and I did a few pg tests that came up negative, so got rather drunk….she’s fine!!! She does like to pretend that all her drinks are wine though!! Hmm It’s nice to hear that everyone agrees on the drinking front! I’ve been steering clear so far this cycle, but maybe I will treat myself to a glass tomorrow night. I have been trying to cut back on the caffeine, but not doing so well today after being up since 5.30 and trying to keep going all day.
It must be such a surreal feeling Stacks! Bet you have to keep reminding yourself! I’m also hoping to make some gifts this year, but the weeks seem to be running away from me quite quickly! what sort of things are you making?
The 50 book challenge sounds interesting Ibelieve, have you enjoyed every one you have read? Where is the list - is it on a thread on MN? I keep meaning to get around to reading the Game of Thrones books, I know so many people who rave about the series, I’ve never seen any of it but would be quite intrigued to get into it.
How funny that there are so many of us on here who did Eng Lit and like reading! Nice that we all have something else in common aside from baby making Wink
Sorry about your job metal, guess it wasn’t meant to be. Your current job sounds exciting though, do you get to do any travelling with it? Hope you are having a lovely time tonight, I love tapas food but my DH isn’t keen, he never feels like he’s getting a proper meal when we have it!
So, books. I read the Golden Compass when I was younger, I know I enjoyed it but can’t really remember much else! Is the Knife of Never Letting Go a series then Stacks? If you read it not too long ago hopefully you can remember it and can join in the intellectual discussion we have about it! You’ll probably be too tired all the time soon to be doing any reading anyway Grin
I have reserved the P.Ness one at the library, I can pick it up on Monday so will be ready to start reading when everyone else is. I’ve just started reading a book about the days before Pompeii at the moment, but I usually have several books on the go at once, so can start straight away!

mrsm22 · 19/10/2013 22:05

Hi ATruth and Lucy - Good stuff, we are all agreed on the choice of book number one! I'll let you know on Monday once I've ordered or got hold of it as perhaps we could all start the week after or later in the week? We can decide all that once everyone's got the book. Depending how the first book goes, we could think about giving the Twilight books a go...
ATruth - I haven't been really watching X factor yet this year but do always watch it, I will watch it and see. I loved James Arthur last year, think he's very cute and can't wait to hear his album. Hoping it's out for Xmas. What are all these gifts people are making? I wish I was a bit more creative. Me and DH are planning a trip to Smyths toy shop ( opened in Leeds a few months ago, amazing big toy shop if you don't know it) and want to go make a start tomo on some things for DS ( with his bday and Xmas only 3 days apart we'll buy a load of things and decide nearer the time which are for Xmas and which for his bday )!

OP posts:
lucyjojo · 19/10/2013 22:15

Ooh christmas shopping sounds like fun Mrs! I think I might pop into town tomorrow to start getting a few bits. DDs birthday is 3 weeks away, then its my nieces then it's pretty much christmas so it would be nice to get a head start on it! We have a smyths here too, it is a good shop isn't it? I might have a look around there tomorrow too. Haven't really decided what we will buy DD for christmas, my DH wants to have a go at making her a balance bike (!) he has found quite an easy pattern for it, whether it will ever be finished in time for her birthday is another matter! Do you know what you're buying DS for presents?
Looking forward to starting the book club! Not sure if I'd be interested in the Twilight ones, my MIL loved them though, and they are easy reading apparently.
I watched the first 2 or 3 auditions of Xfactor...but haven't seen any since.

mrsm22 · 19/10/2013 22:22

Hi Lucy - is your DD going to be 2 in 3 weeks? A balance bike sounds really good. I think my DH probably thinks it's a bit soon to go shopping tomorrow but DS's bday is 28th Dec and of course there's Xmas first. I have 3 little nieces and a nephew and all their bdays are between November and jan so it's an expensive time! We've seen a work bench with tools and toy drill (comes with over 50 tools and things to make) in the Smyths catalogue so going to look at that. My DM has already bought him a Mickey Mouse scooter which he will love. He likes doing things like building things so not really sure what else but want to have a look round. I think it's the best toy shop around nowadays. I'm looking forward to book club too. If you don't fancy the Twilight books we won't give those a try. It has to be books we all fancy. To be fair, I've heard they're good but I'm not sure I'm into the whole vampire thing.

OP posts:
Stacks · 19/10/2013 22:34

I think my DH would take the Mickey out of me for reading the twilight books, but I'd happily give them a go - well, the first one at least!

mrsm22 · 19/10/2013 22:38

Well Stacks, we'll see what everyone fancies and see how the first book goes. My DH doesn't read books at all, he likes bike magazines but I don't know if he's ever read a book.

OP posts:
HungryHorace · 20/10/2013 09:02

Morning!

Is everyone ok? Sorry I was quiet yesterday; I caught up with housework and we also had guests.

I wonder if there are any book clubs online whose ideas we can steal for books? I'm not really interested in the Twilight ones to be honest, though I've been told they're easy to read.

Day 3 of our DTD marathon today and we've had a failed attempt as DH is tired, so we shall try again later on!

I do like the OPKs I have, as sad as that sounds. Only got circles so far, but not really expecting a smiley until about CD 18 or 19 based on cycle length last time. Though I suppose it could shorten this time. Hope it doesn't get longer as I don't think every day DTD is possible for an extended time!

What's everyone doing today? I think we will do nothing. I may make a cake, we shall see!

DD is finally asleep on me after being kept awake with teething. Poor thing, it's so awful to see her in so much discomfort. :-(

mrsm22 · 20/10/2013 11:03

Hi Hungry - I'm not too bad. How are you? Did you have a nice day yesterday with your guests ? It's awful when your baby is teething and it goes on for ages. My DS still has teeth coming and he goes completely off his good and has a bright red ear and cheek. I hope your DD is ok , lots of cuddles for her. We calpol my DS as that's really good. I think it's 2 months plus. Do you use calpol? I think we'll leave the vampire books as a few people aren't keen and go with the one by Patrick Ness that ATruth picked. Have you ordered that one from the library? Let me know and I 'll get mine ordered or bought. Today we are planning to go to that Smyths toy shop and have a look at making a start on things for DS. A day of doing nothing sounds ideal x

OP posts:
HungryHorace · 20/10/2013 11:13

Yes, we use Calpol. Not too often, but if it's needed then it's used, as it's not fair to her to leave her in pain and without sleep.

I'm ok actually. DH caught up with sleep with DD while I sat and MN'd :-) Brunch soon as we're all awake now.

DD did a roll earlier. Off my legs onto the bed. It was do funny, and definitely deliberate, so we are getting somewhere hopefully!

I'll sort that book out this week somehow.

Enjoy the toy shop :-)

Oh, the guests were ok. DH's sister who isn't my biggest fan. But never mind!

mrsm22 · 20/10/2013 12:08

I know what you mean, I'm not the biggest fan of my DH's family (well my MIL ) but that's another story. Will let you know how I get on at the toy shop x sounds so cute rolling on to the bed.

OP posts:
mrsm22 · 20/10/2013 18:29

Hello all, how is everyone?
Well me and DH went shopping to Toys R Us, took DS to my mum and dads and we have bought his birthday and Xmas presents (well the main one's)! We feel very poor now. Bought him a Mercedes jeep which he can drive about , it has a proper steering wheel and lights up etc like a real car (£179.99 )- where do they get their prices? Unbelievable! That might be for his birthday (28th December) and we bought him a work bench with tools and power drill etc. He loves things like that and is always helping himself to screwdriver at home. Wanted to make a start now to even out the expense. Toys r us was mobbed with people, we couldn't get parked so imagine what it will be like nearer to Xmas . Just the rest of the family to buy for now but feels better that the main one 's are done. I've told DH not to bother for me. How's everyone else's day been? x

OP posts:
Toothpastekissesno2 · 20/10/2013 19:47

Very generous presents mrs! We got our ds a fire engine and a coat for his forst bday. As if he even wanted a coat!! I had lovely weekend seeing friends and recovering from Friday!
Can I ask why a long cycle is good? I know there was talk of it and I am looking for positives in my really loooong cycle!

utopian99 · 20/10/2013 20:10

Hi just checking in as was rushing around the country so slightly lost my place! How is everyone? Got hopeful that I could be ov-ing after you were all so helpful with info but then dh was tired so no go on the dtd till last night so unless Thursday was v lucky then I doubt we're going to get very far. And still no AF so could be false hope anyway..
Ds was being shouty this morning which made dh a bit peeved, so I did point out 2 DC will only be more work but he still seems keen. He did sleep 8-5 last night though which is a record, and is radically cutting down milk on his own so that bodes well.

bubbles hi - I was on the Dec thread too!

HungryHorace · 20/10/2013 20:27

Hi Toothpaste!

It's not necessarily a long cycle in itself that's good, but if you have a very short cycle you may have a luteal phase defect (time between OV and AF - should be at least 10 clear days) which would mean that you weren't able to sustain pregnancy.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that 26 days is considered the minimum length for a 'normal' cycle. Perhaps. That's not very scientific, sorry! :-)

A really long cycle isn't considered helpful either.

Utopian, I PM'd you the other day.

I hope you did manage to catch OV. Keeping my fingers crossed.

We've managed to DTD again today. Third day running. Could be another 7 to go if my cycle is as long as last month. I doubt we will manage that!
