Anyone about to start/just started TTC number 2?

1000 replies

mrsm22 · 03/09/2013 20:35

Hi ladies, I am 31 and have one DS already. After my DS I went back on the pill but have decided to stop the pill and start TTC baby number 2 and wondered if anyone was also just about to start trying or just started and we could follow each other and share as we go along. I literally have stopped my pill last week for the 7 day break, and am meant to start taking it again tomorrow but obviously won't be, so I am very literally just starting to try for number two but am very excited! That's why I thought it might be nice to go through it with other people who are also trying. I have heard some people say that after your first baby you are more fertile but I am not sure so I am really not sure how long it will take this time. Does it usually not take as long second time round? It has taken a lot for me to decide for definite that I'd like another as I had an awful time in labour with forceps and 3rd degree tears etc which really scared me and must admit I'm terrified of another scary birth experience.

How is everyone today? What stage is everyone at in their cycles?

BetterNotBitter · 08/10/2013 08:03

Crossed posts mrs! Well, thats good news (I know not as good as a bfp) but at least tou will will hopefully know where youre workig abit more :)

HungryHorace · 08/10/2013 08:54

Hi mrs!

With regard to AF, you only ever count full bleeding, so if you generally started, for instance, with 2 days of spotting, the first day is when you start bleeding properly. BUT if you start after midday, CD1 is the next day!

No sign of an AF here. I felt really sick this morning and could have been convinced to throw up quite easily. Though I also seem to have a bit of a dodgy tummy, so they could be related.

Heading for my longest cycle ever now!

BetterNotBitter · 08/10/2013 09:12

Hungry, how long has it been now? Do you know when you last ovulated?

HungryHorace · 08/10/2013 09:31

I'm on CD32, Better.

This is my first proper cycle since having dd in June. My first cycle only lasted 17 days, then I was onto this one.

I'm considering that I may not have ovulated hence no AF, which means I need to start DTD again! But I've always had AF before, so I'm a bit baffled! I used to OV on day 15/16 before DD.

I think our bodies just like to confuse us!

mrsm22 · 08/10/2013 10:14

Hungry - have you always been regular with AF? Interesting about the feeling sick. I know we both got BFN's yesterday but I am definitely not pregnant as my AF has started properly last night. Don't know what the few days light bleeding were leading up to it but hey ho. But for you still having no AF, not building your hopes after yesterday but there is still a chance you could be pregnant and it may be really early days for you hence a BFN. On the pregnancy test I did yesterday it said that HCG levels can sometimes be too low to show up a BFP. I think you're going to have to give it til the weekend or a full week from yesterday and keep testing until you get either AF or a BFP.
Better - thank you , it is good to know I've got my period in just over 4 weeks off the pill. Only thing is, how do I know when my next one is due? And how do I know when I should now ovulate ? Should I just assume I'll be due again in 4 weeks? Are most cycles 28 days?

Metalhead · 08/10/2013 10:20

Morning ladies, hope everyone's well today.

mrsm glad to hear AF has made a proper appearance now (that sounds wrong, but you know hwat I mean!), at least you know where you stand and that everything is in working order so to speak.

Hungry I'm not surprised your cycles are a bit all over the shop - you only had a baby four months ago woman!! Grin Give it some more time, I'm sure things will go back to normal eventually. (Easier said than done, I know...)

CD26 here, and around 8/9 dpo. Nothing else to report, though yesterday's cramps seem to have eased off again today.

Had another disturbed night with DD so I'm very tired today. Think we'll have to get tough on her and stop going in during the night; she's perfectly capabale of picking up her bunny herself when he falls out of bed, or pulling her duvet up when it slips down, we've just been too soft to crack down so far as she just starts shouting and creaming if we don't come... but I think we've reached the point where enough is enough. Her sleep is supposed be getting better, not worse the older she gets! Confused

Metalhead · 08/10/2013 10:24

mrsm there's no way to know how long your cycles will be until you've had a few. The average is 28 days, but that's just it - an average.

I would just take the length of your last cycle for now and use an ov calculator to see when you're likely to ov, but just be aware that it might not be an exact date. This should also give you an idea of when your next AF is due.

HungryHorace · 08/10/2013 10:44

Mrs, I don't really know about my cycle as I was either on the pill or the injection for about 17 years prior to TTC last time.

My cycle then varied between 26-32 days (IIRC) but never settled into a definite pattern before I got my BFP. I think I was heading for about a 29/30 day cycle though as I got my BFP on CD26, 11 DPO.

I know pregnancy can alter things but I've never had very long cycles before. And I've really felt pre-AF like since the weekend without anything to show for it. Odd.

I've heard of people who never get a positive test, but that's rare. I'll wait til neare the weekend and test again if no AF by then didn't bother this morning!

BetterNotBitter · 08/10/2013 11:40

Ooooh hungry I agree with mrs there's still a chance. I would test again in a few days maybe. metal also has a point that it's likely your cycles will be a bit crazy for a good while if you only had a baby a few months ago, I know mine were for about the first year.

HungryHorace · 08/10/2013 11:42

I know, Metalhead, but that doesn't stop me being impatient! If I didn't mind going back to work I wouldn't be as angsty. :-/

Mrs, I really think you'd benefit from using one of the cycle tracker apps as it'll keep count of your cycles and suggest fertile periods for you to work round. If nothing happens by Christmas you can maybe think about also using OPKs to pinpoint OV.

HungryHorace · 08/10/2013 11:46

Xpost, Better. :-) We shall see, I suppose. I'm giving up now, ha ha.

I don't want crazy cycles though

mrsm22 · 08/10/2013 12:13

Hi Metalhead - I can sympathise with the lack of sleep and disturbed night's. Our DS rarely sleeps on his own bed. We have been far too soft but I think you are with the first one. I will have a look at an ov calculator.
Hungry - I also agree with Metalhead and Better. I forget that you only had your DD 4 months ago. Things could take a while to regulate and go back to normal. Patience is something annoyingly that we all need.

OP posts:
Metalhead · 08/10/2013 13:05

Hungry my DD is 3.4, so should really know better! She used to be a great sleeper, and she still can sleep through but it's just becoming very inconsistent. I gave her a really big telling off today for her shenanigans last night and this morning and confiscated her favourite game, but the trobule is this only usually has an effect for one night and then the next day she's forgotten all about it again!

I guess we'll just have to drum it into her every night not to start shouting just because bunny has fallen out of bed and ignore her if she does...

lucyjojo · 08/10/2013 14:50

metalhead I know what you mean about getting worse with sleeping the older she gets! My DD isn't 2 yet I suppose, but she does seem to be getting worse. She's been sleeping through the night for ages, but recently --I-- we have had to go in to her at least once a night to calm her down and get her back to sleep, I don't know if she's having nightmares, or just struggling to get back to sleep.
Is that really true what you say hungry about your AF starting after midday then CD1 is the next day!? I have been counting some of my cycles all wrong then! I have just started using ovufriend, but it's a bit intimidating Confused.
Anyway, I ended up giving in this morning and POAS. I know I'm due tomorrow, but I just wanted to know a yes or no either way, rather than moping around all day tomorrow waiting for AF to show up. It was a firm resolute BFN. Not even a hint of a line, so at least I know now she IS going to show up Sad. I didn't really expect anything else though tbh after our poor effort this month!
Mrs I'm glad (of sorts) that your period has now made her appearance, it is tricky figuring out when it starts, but I think I'd have to agree and go with Monday. Maybe if you just DTD eod or so all month, then you won't need to fret so much about when you might be ovulating? Easier said than done I know, but I'm going to make that my tactic next month! If that doesn't work, then I think I'll be going down the OPK route.

mrsm22 · 08/10/2013 15:42

Lucyjojo - sorry that you got a BFN today. It is so disappointing but if you say you know you've not given it the best go to can at least expect it. I wasn't expecting a BFP in my first month off the pill to be honest, it was wishful thinking. But we can at least start to DTD every other day or every day from now in to give it a good chance for next month. Hope you're not too disappointed x

OP posts:
HungryHorace · 08/10/2013 17:33

Sorry about your bfn Lucy.

And yes, apparently that's right re counting your cycle. I learned that last time!

EOD feels like an impossibility. We will have to see how that goes! :-)

Metalhead · 08/10/2013 18:55

lucy sorry to hear about your BFN, but at least it sounds like you were already half-expecting it?

I am so fed up with my 2ww I might just have to POAS tomorrow, even though I'll only be 10dpo and therefore probably too early to test...

mrsm22 · 08/10/2013 19:44

Metalhead - if you can wait before poas I would until you think there's a good chance. I think we've all been testing a bit early and you know if it's too early it might not show up yet. I know it's hard to wait. I just don't want you to do what I did when I randomly decided to test on my birthday (22nd sept) and got a very obvious bfn. When is it that you should be poas?

OP posts:
ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 08/10/2013 20:14

I am officially going bonkers. Poas this evening. Af not even due till next week and we barely dtd because of dh's back injury. I'm such a loser.

Metalhead · 08/10/2013 20:38

If you are ATruth then so am I, not sure if I can sit on my hands for much longer!

I know you're right mrsm, I should just wait another few days... AF due around Sun/Mon so not that long, but at the same time feels like ages away. I actually read today that about 50% of positive pregnancy tests showed up at 10dpo, which doesn't seem to bad...

I guess I'll wait and see how I feel in the morning!

HungryHorace · 08/10/2013 21:31

I might have another go tomorrow. Might as well :-)

TTC does send you totally crazy, ATruth. That's why we need to talk to others going through the same things! Safety in numbers. :-)

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 08/10/2013 21:46

I'm out of sticks Sad Blush

Shall I order a job lot for all of us? I'm already planning a walk past home bargains on my way to pick up DS from nursery tomorrow Grin

mrsm22 · 08/10/2013 21:58

Hi Hungry, Metalhead and ATruth - I second what Hungry says, safety in numbers! And we are all here to support each other, we all want the same thing. How are you feeling Hungry? Have you had any more feeling sick?
ATruth - I am going bonkers too. It's only been a month of trying for me and I've already been through two pregnancy tests.
Metalhead - sorry if my last message sounded like I was telling you what to do, you go for it and poas as soon as you want to and fingers crossed for a BFP! I am going to leave it a few weeks before I poas and maybe test on Monday 28th of this month, but like you it depends if u can wait that long. It is really hard waiting. You almost wish tests came in bumper packs of 50 and you could do one every day. That's interesting about 50 percent of pregnancies showing up soon too. I was looking at all the different pregnancy tests on Sunday when u was buying one to do on Monday and there are so many to choose from all claiming to do something better than another, but I think at the end of the day they must all be pretty much the same and I think all are 99 percent correct. I went for one which said it was as good as a doctor's test and predicted early pregnancy. It was only £6.

mrsm22 · 08/10/2013 22:02

ATruth - yes go on, pick us up a job lot of sticks tomorrow and get them off in the post to each of us. I'm out of sticks too. I think I'm done with the expensive one 'a which claim to be best. Think I'll stick to tesco pack of two for £3.50. I got a BFP using one of those when I fell on with DS.
