Just wondered - those with +ve tests, how many times did you dtd the month you conceived?

I know dtd every other day is the best way to get results, but that is just not practical for us.

I am temping and using opks so hopefully we will time it right and catch the fertile window a couple of times.

I see many people who are dtd every day or every other day or "only 5 times over the weekend"! Even with the best intentions, we will not manage this even in my fertile window.

Anyone got any good news stories to share? I'm worried keeping my fingers crossed isn't going to be enough! I'm really hoping this isn't going to put back our HPT date many many months!

This time last week I was feeling so positive. I need to get my positive vibes back!

Like Isla we have dtd unprotected twice during my fertile period and got pregnant both times...once with twins Grin.

I know we are very fortunate though.

itsonlysubterfuge · 28/08/2013 20:33

I used this before we got pregnant to help keep track of my periods and when we shouldn't be having sex, as we weren't ready to get pregnant. Then, when we were ready I pretty much knew what my cycle was like and we had sex a lot, all the time, many times a day Blush during my fertility window. I also did the whole legs in the air thing and I was pregnant next month.

VJONES1985 · 28/08/2013 20:38

If it took us a while to conceive, I'd be worried about having to dtd more than once a day because we just don't have time for that during the week - dh gets home from work at 8.15 and we go to sleep at about 11.00!

FrankelInFoal · 28/08/2013 20:45

You don't need to have sex more than once a day! Sperm can survive for several days inside the uterus so even every other day is fine if that is all you can manage - don't put so much pressure on yourself.

That's good then because there's no way I'd be up for that, hee hee.

craftynclothy · 28/08/2013 21:02

We just carried on having sex as normal but without condoms. Got pregnant first cycle both times. After having our two kids we doubled up on contraception until we were sure we wouldn't be having any more and then Dh got the snip.

Junebugjr · 28/08/2013 21:04

Caught straight away both times in the first month.

Dd1 - conceived military style, with opk's, temperature taking and i demanded constant shagging around ovulation.
Dd2 - half hearted shag around middle of cycle, only once that month as DP working away.
A lot rests on luck I think!

BartBaby · 28/08/2013 21:44

We only managed one dtd over the fertile window as we were sort of having a month off this month and got lucky Smile

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 28/08/2013 21:46

1st pregnancy DTD 4 times, CD13 15 16 and 19 (the last one just to prove I didn't just want DH for his sperm! It took 16 cycles to conceive and we ended up targeting the fertile window (I was temping and using OPKs) as shagging was definitely no longer fun by that point.

2nd pregnancy (23cycle of TTC) I thought we'd missed the fertile window, DTD CD6, 7, 14, 20 and 21. So only once when we were in the slot and it clearly worked! (Didn't stick though, just had a MC).

makemineamalibuandpineapple · 28/08/2013 21:51

I'm pretty sure all it took was me dropping my knickers and I was pregnant (sorry TMI Grin). Conceived on the first month.

Sallystyle · 28/08/2013 22:18

Got pregnant with the ones I tried for the first cycle. Don't remember how many times we had sex though.

Had one baby on the pill (yes I took them correctly) and another baby on the IUD (still in place perfectly when conceived)

jazzcat28 · 28/08/2013 22:26

We dtd on the Thursday, Saturday, got pos opk Sunday so dtd again and that was it. That was 3rd June. Now 15+3 with DC1 Smile

We aren't regular sex people so used opks and I got very in tune with ewcm

NorfolkIngWay · 28/08/2013 22:49

DD - Once
DS1- Once
DS2- twice

DH was very pissed off ! Grin

LongStory · 28/08/2013 22:56

first time five times. scared to go near him now, even after the op.

cerealqueen · 28/08/2013 23:32

Eggs like older sperm, they have more chance of fertilising the egg apparently, so to boost chances have sex at the beginning of your fertile period (a few days before egg due to be released). I read this in a fertility guide and it worked for us. Will look up the book where I read it!

hopefulgum · 28/08/2013 23:36

My first son was an "accident" as I was using the natural family planning method and got it completely wrong.

Then I had three more children. I knew when I ovulated from pain, so would DTD then and got pregnant first try each time.

At the ripe old age of 41 (after Dh had a vasectomy reversal) it took 7 months of planning, opks, charting, and on that month we DTD 3 days before, 1 day before and on the day of ovulation. (But that pattern wasn't very different from previous months)

I have since gotten pregnant three times (but all have miscarried). Here's the DTD pattern:

6 months ttc, m/c 1: 3,2 days before and day of ovulation
7 months ttc m/c 2: 3,1 day before and day of ovulation
12 months ttc m/c3: 1 day before and day of ovulation

It has now been about 16 months since the last bfp.

Clearly, aging has made a big difference to my fertility.

kiwik · 29/08/2013 00:53

DC1 I came off the pill and was pregnant that same month. We're sex everyday kind of people, so no idea which day we'd have actually conceived.
DC2 never used any protection after the birth of DC1, and fell pregnant when he was 8 months. My periods hadn't returned properly, so I wasn't sure I was actually pregnant until I was a couple of months gone.
DC3 took a month to conceive after coming off the pill.
DC4&5 we had abstained for the longest period in our marriage due to post birth issues after DC3, and I got pregnant first time we had sex again.

DH is off for a vasectomy as soon as he books it in.

LongTailedTit · 29/08/2013 01:13

Once...

I've been tracking my cycle for a couple of months, and this was the first month of using an OPK, so didn't think we were 'properly' trying yet.
DH has been working long hours 7 days a week and unwilling to do anything other than sleep, so we only had sex once this month, the morning after my OPK said ':)'.
One shot wonder - we're both a bit stunned it was that easy, fx it sticks!
DH is v impressed by his virility, and we've already discussed his future vasectomy as we're definitely stopping at two DC!

We took three cycles to conceive DS, so I was hoping it'd be ok again, but wasn't expecting that!

ZeroTolerance · 29/08/2013 02:57

First time, 5 cycles. Used opks in the 5th month.

Second time, 5 cycles again but sadly lost that pregnancy.

Third time, opks agsin, bam! first month. We were both Shock

It is quite random.

doobeedee · 29/08/2013 06:32

Google "The great sperm race video" and it comes up a few links down the page in 4 10 minute parts. It's a really interesting channel 4 programme done by Dr Robert Winston.

Twiddlebum · 29/08/2013 06:52

Used LH strips and DTD twice during the 'window' shift work and exhaustion doesn't make conception easy!!

TallulahBetty · 29/08/2013 07:50

Probably 3 times a week regardless of when i was ovulating. We hit the jackpot 3 weeks after i came off the pill - we were very fortunate. Just hope it's as easy next time!
