Just wondered - those with +ve tests, how many times did you dtd the month you conceived?

I know dtd every other day is the best way to get results, but that is just not practical for us.

I am temping and using opks so hopefully we will time it right and catch the fertile window a couple of times.

I see many people who are dtd every day or every other day or "only 5 times over the weekend"! Even with the best intentions, we will not manage this even in my fertile window.

Anyone got any good news stories to share? I'm worried keeping my fingers crossed isn't going to be enough! I'm really hoping this isn't going to put back our HPT date many many months!

This time last week I was feeling so positive. I need to get my positive vibes back!

That's meant to say the video was made by Nucleus Medical Media and that it was really good Smile I'm on my husbands iPad and it is really crap as it always misses out letters during text or changing words! Hmm

I think most of ours have been when (for various reasons) we haven't managed it for a week or two until once or twice in the fertile window. Any "lots of sex" months -- no BFP. That makes me wonder whether perhaps DH has some very mild male factor issues, but we are very much Done with the whole baby thing now so it's not relevant any more.

TheCatIsUpTheDuff · 28/08/2013 10:37

We were incredibly lucky and caught immediately, within a couple of weeks of my implant coming out. We probably had sex a couple of times a week, but weren't going to start monitoring ovulation and timing sex until I'd had a period, because I didn't know when to count from until then. I didn't have a period, felt funny and tested. The first time it was negative but a week later it was positive.

wow! so many extremes! it's so I interesting

I fully expected it to take us years to conceive as there are a lot of fertility issues in my family.

However, I got pregnant straight away. We were on holiday though so DTD, well, a lot. A couple of times a day (disclaimer: that's not our usual average!). Not sure if this will help you but for us it worked.

FYI - I was conceived on holiday too after 2+ years of trying by my parents. DB was born through IVF 6 years later.

beela · 28/08/2013 12:40

First time - once, in the middle of a loooong dry spell - my body obviously thought it needed to take it's chance!

Second time - also once. This time we were actually ttc and in previous cycles had tried a bit harder, but for some reason that month we were tired / ill / DS not sleeping, blah blah blah, so only managed to dtd once. We had been trying for about 4 months.

Writerwannabe83 · 28/08/2013 12:44

Ironically my BFP came on the back of a very looooooong dry spell too Grin

I'm not even going to say how long, lol Grin

neversleepagain · 28/08/2013 12:47

We decided to TTC in February 2012. We DTD on Friday night & Saturday morning and I got a positive test 10 days later. I also popped out two eggs that month. We now have lovely 11 month old twin girls :)

Writerwannabe83 · 28/08/2013 12:50

Arrrrrrr - what a lovely story Grin

20wkbaby · 28/08/2013 12:50

Took me 2 months to conceive DD1 = 3 times.

With DD2 it took 4 months = 6 or 7 times.

We just literally had no time and second time round we had an extra distraction!

Did use OPKs though so timed rather than random events.

CommanderShepard · 28/08/2013 12:51

Once. We were never sure when I was fertile anyway as I'd just had my implant removed so had sex when we fancied it.

IslaValargeone · 28/08/2013 12:53

Had unprotected sex twice in my life and became pregnant both times, once with twins.
Have since had everything tied, clamped and sealed off.

Weegiemum · 28/08/2013 12:54

I've had 6 +ve tests, have 3 dc and had 3 mc.

First 2 + were both mc, but at that point we weren't trying (really) and doing it all the time.

#3 (dd1) I remember as it made us late for a concert at church Blush and first month of trying. We weren't trying very hard, tbh.

4 was our first month trying after dd1, we weren't being scientific about it. Was sadly a 14 wk mc.

#5 was ds - 2nd month of trying, no science there either!

#6 was dd2. I had a mirena coil. I was almost 12 weeks before I found out (throwing up every day for a week was a giveaway!) and I've no idea what our dtd pattern was!

I'm very glad dh has been snipped because we seem to be in the "sit on the same cushion" camp. Back then (dd1 is 13, ds is 11 and dd2 is 9) there wasn't this whole focus on opk etc but then we didnt have a problem.

I think it's 50% get pg within 3 months but might be wrong.

Good luck!

Writerwannabe83 · 28/08/2013 12:54

hahaha Isla - that made me laugh Grin

KirjavaTheCat · 28/08/2013 13:06

I have a regular cycle, so I knew whereabouts I'd be ovulating and we DTD every night around that time. We conceived the first month of trying, we were incredibly fortunate.

strokey · 28/08/2013 13:25

This is my 8th pregnancy. We have never aimed for ovulation or counted days. 4 have been planned, the rest were accidents. One time I got pregnant the first day after my period finished, once with the coil, once with the implant. I wonder how people avoid it.

NewMumJuly11 · 28/08/2013 13:26

I am definatly from the school of thought that it should be fun and that being relaxed and enjoying yourselves really helps. With both of ours we not so much decided to try but just decided not to try not to (if you know what I mean) and stopped precautions. We then just kept up as normal which is DTD pretty much every other day. With DS1 it took about 3 months to get a + test with our second (which is due in October) it must have happened within a matter of days as we got a +ve at the end of the first month of not trying not to... I think the pressure of trying can make things difficult so try not to worry. Like veryone says it only take one....

WheresMeJumperOhNo · 28/08/2013 13:32

DS1, we were dtd all the time and I got pregnant on the fourth month of trying. DS2 we dtd once that month after only just deciding to ttc and I got pregnant Smile

GuffSmuggler · 28/08/2013 13:57

Took us about 3 months each time ranging from not trying at all to desperately trying.

I would recommend the Clear Blue Digital OV dual hormone sticks, they detect the hormone that shows you are about to ovulate and you get a flashing smiley face for 2-3 days, then you get a proper smiley face on OV day.

If you are DTD in the day or 2 before OV you stand a much better chance of getting PG as you get the swimmers up there and waiting for the egg to release. It worked for us, we did it about 3 times over smiley days and I'm now 13 weeks Grin

As much as these people say do it every couple of days, there was no way that was going to happen with us and there are only about 2-3 fertile days in each month and I wanted to make sure we put our efforts into those days!

FunnyRunner · 28/08/2013 14:01

We were very scientific about it - OPKs and CBFM, used pre-seed lube and I stuck my legs in the air dead-budgie style afterwards. DTD 3 times in 24 hours. In spite of being older parents we got there first time so we gave that egg and sperm the best possible chance to do their work - and they produced DD :)

musicalfamily · 28/08/2013 14:20

DH and I are extremely fertile together, I got pregnant all 4 times when we'd only dtd once and the last 3 I was still fully breastfeeding and my period had only returned once.

We also started a family quite old so it was a surprise we were both so fertile at such an advanced age!! Sometimes it is also a chemistry between two people, I certainly took many risks in the past with other men and never got pregnant.

He's had the snip as being so fertile we were worried about trusting any sort of contraception and we'd done with our family after 4 anyway!!

feelingdizzy · 28/08/2013 14:36

Both ends of the scale for me ,had icsi to conceive my first, were told we would never have children 'naturally'. When my daughter was about 9 months old my marriage was coming to and end had sex once and once only since her birth, well lets just say the doctors were wrong, ds was born 9 months later.

Its good I know what is like to have a long wait to conceive I also know what its like to have a surprise baby Smile

YippeeKiYayMakkaPakka · 28/08/2013 14:38

First time, we weren't trying very hard as I was waiting for my periods to return to normal after stoping the pill. The BFP, while not unplanned, was still sort of unexpected. First month after my periods came back.

Second time we had unprotected sex once (again I'd come off the pill but was supposed to be waiting for my periods to become regular again.)! We got lucky with the timing I guess.

Writerwannabe83 · 28/08/2013 14:40

I agree musical about compatibility with partners.

My sister admitted to me a few months ago then when she was younger and had two long term boyfriends (at different time, obviously) she wasn't using contraception with either of them and never got pregnant. She was with one of the guys for 18 months and the other for just over 2.5years. FWIW - she wasn't trying to conceive, she was just being young and stupid!!

She then met her current partner and when they decided to TTC she got pregnant within the first few months with both her children.

Snatchoo · 28/08/2013 15:03

For my first pregnancy, I had just come off the pill which I had been on for about 10 years. It took 6 months to conceive and we were doing it a lot! At any time, no time in particular.

Second pregnancy, I hadn't gone back on the pill we were just using condoms. Decided we wanted another, I bought some £1 ovulation strips from Poundland and conceived the first time I tested. As I wasn't using hormonal contraception I had a pretty good idea when I was ovulating anyway, but took a punt with the strips anyway.
