Has anyone every had a BFN that was in fact a BFP?

Just tested 2 days prior to AF with a First Response and had a BFN. I have been feeling very pregnant lately but now wondering if it's psychosomatic.

Has anyone ever has a BFN before receiving a BFP a few days later?

I did with ds. Took a test on the wed, bfn. Took a test on the Friday bfp. Leave it a couple of days and if no af test again.

Yes! Suspected I might be pregnant. Did a test. Got bfn, accepted a new job and a week later got a bfp!

My employer sacked me on my return from maternity leave Hmm but they were a shit employer and it was a relief tbh. DD1 on the other hand is amazing, funny, beautiful. She is nearly five, sitting next to me right now eating a meatball sandwich Grin

Yes! Got a BFN every day for 10 days (starting at 9dpo), even though I knew I was pregnant. Finally got a BFP at 19dpo and she's now just about to start high school Smile

Hello, I'm a new poster - hope no-one minds me butting in! I too am hoping this happens fairly commonly...

With my last pregnancy (also my first pregnancy), I had several BFNs over the course of a week or two, but I was SURE I was pregnant, and sure enough I got a BFP in due course. My HCG levels had just been too low prior to that - I was about 06/40 by the time I go the BFP I think. x

Yes, but the time this happened to me - when it turned positive quite late (about 17dpo) after a sequence of negatives - I went on to have a v. early miscarriage. So I think in that particular case the 'late' positive was a sign that it wasn't implanting properly. It was completely obvious I was pregnant though as I felt rough!

So even if your period turns up in due course it doesn't necessarily mean you were imagining things. A very high proportion of conceptions fail at a very early stage (e.g. before, during or shortly after implantation). If you and/or your test is especially sensitive you can pick up on these that you might otherwise not have noticed.

I will refer you to the old clearbluefairy thread which states the statistics as:
the percentages of those who get their BFPs on set dpo are as follows:
10dpo=35%
11dpo=51%
12dpo=62%
13dpo=68%
14dpo=74%
15dpo=80%
16dpo=88%
17dpo=92% and there are some who have not got their BFP until 21dpo or not at all.

However if you look at http://www.countdowntopregnancy.com/pregnancy-test/brand-chart.php?hptbrandid=41 this countdown to pregnancy site it clearly indicates that with an First Response early test (eg the expensive test 6 days before your period test) the results are:
10dpo=76%
11dpo=83%
12dpo=85%
13dpo=90%
14dpo=90%
15dpo=90%
16dpo=91%
17dpo=89%!!!
21dpo=93%

Whatever way you look at it, even at the day your period is due at least 1 in 10 women (or more) could still get a false negative.

False negatives are due to levels not being high enough (late implantation etc), or urine being too dilute, or you are testing with a less sensitive test. Some women never get a positive test in their pregnancies too, but this is not very common.

Of course the above statistics are also from women who knew when they ovulated as opposed to the "my period is a week late" for women who just ovulated late in the cycle.

I miss having the clearbluefairy around!

Yes, although NB that first response are NOT the most sensitive. The most sensitive tests you can get are internet cheapy ones - sensitive to 10 of whatever the unit is of HCG rather than 20-40 or so. Super-sensitive is not necessarily an advantage though if you want to avoid being aware of very early losses.

Both my pg were bfn's. On the actual day my period was due as well. They're 3.8 and 23 months old.
Give it a few more days, good luck!

chezchaos · 28/05/2013 18:15

Yes, with both DC. Cheapo test day before AF due with DD1, Clearblue first response or similar day before and day AF due for DC2. All big fat negatives despite obvious pregnancy symptoms. Positive tests a day or two later.

Thanks ladies, this gives me a little hope. I'm due today but so far nothing so am going to try to hang on until Friday and then take a test in the morning. I do drink a ton of water so it's quite possible that I diluted myself out!
