NoMaybeAboutIt · 25/05/2013 17:43

Afternoon brookers. We really are trooping on aren't we!

Hope you are doing on with all the jabbing and bleeding Solars

Geek how are you getting on?

For all those worries about the non alcoholic drinks, I have a list of 5 non alcoholic bevies that look amazing. Let me know if you want me to forward it on.

Hope everyone is out enjoying the sunshine!

cartoontrickster · 25/05/2013 18:57

Oooo yes please maybe I'm not very imaginative with non alcoholic drinks. I'm sat at home with dh who has a mixed berry kopparberg and I've got a glass of water. Hmm
weight watchers stopped me being a massive drinker, I'd rather use the points on food! but when I can't have alcohol its all I want. I need some tasty drinks to trick myself with.

ControlGeek · 25/05/2013 19:00

Brooking that those latecomers join the party for you. I'm glad didn't need the IVIG. Wow to you taking two lots of stims though - what is it that you have to take?

beedle how are you doing? When is your next scan?

maybe ooh are they fancy mocktails? I love a drink with effort!

All good here, I now have my first injection under my belt and feeling quite proud of myself for not cocking it up completely, stabbing myself in the finger or dropping anything Managed to keep busy most of the day to distract myself. The garden and washing are thanking me, but I'm a bit knackered now!

keepitgoing · 26/05/2013 03:25

Well done geek!! It'll whizz by now.

solars I'm joining the GFG dance too, and brooking for those late ones. Can't be long now - you must be so tired, hope dh is taking good care.

I'm so excited for you all! Eyes on the prize. One step at a time. It only takes one.

Someone asked - yes, I'm looking forward to going home in 8(!) weeks. I'm fed up with the heat and long for countryside...

So we had our 12 13 week scan yesterday. Brookers, it was amazing, all you dream of. We are having to wait a week or two for the Downs blood tests, but physical markers were good and Kip was waving, twisting, swimming for us. I hope this helps for those in tough times - ivf is a miracle.

Thank you all so much for it all. You have been so wonderful. I cannot wait for all your bfps x

BeedlesPineNeedles · 26/05/2013 09:47

Well done geek I think the idea of stabbing yourself with a needle is far worse than the reality. But I still have a moment of what the hell am I doing, as I prepare to stick the needle into me :o

I got the impression from reading about other peoples ivf that they have to mix the menopur every day, whereas I mix 1200 units in a little vial, so 4 days worth. Though maybe I wasn't really taking it in before it was affecting me.

keep fab news on the scan, as you say its what we dream of. Glad you're looking forward to going home, though there must be loads to sort out before you leave.

I was reading a thread on the local equivalent of mumsnet yesterday written by people going through treatment at the same place as me. There were 3 of them who were almost cycle buddies, and exactly in line with the statistics 1 of them succeeded. I don't know anything about how old they were or why they were having treatment, but it did remind me that we're more likely to fail than succeed. Sad But they weren't brookers so who knows what difference that would have made :o

BlindKitty · 26/05/2013 10:56

beedles ah there you go then. This thread is clearly lucky for the bfps hence my hanging around! Oh and also for the excellent company!!!

Solars · 26/05/2013 16:39

Excellent scan news Keep so pleased for you. I was like you itching to go back home after our year out but we often reminisce about it all and you'll have extra special memories too.

Geek I've been taking Merional and Fostimon for stimming. Glad to hear the stabbing went well yesterday. You'll be a pro at it before you know it.

Beedle good to hear all is going well for you stabbing wise too. When is your next scan?

So I have had a long day today at the clinic with double bloods again today as well double scans to double check that I can trigger tonight and I've been given the go ahead to trigger, so egg collection is Tuesday morning!!!!

SweetieTime · 26/05/2013 17:32

well done geek for getting the first jabs out of the way. I remember we kept breaking the vials wrong ans cutting our fingers. I asked om here and the lovely olives pointed out what we were doing wrong. Hopefully todays goes just as well.

Solars good luck with the trigger shot later. They do seem to have a very intense approach but then they get the results so worth it in the end. Counting down to EC. Very exciting times.

ControlGeek · 26/05/2013 18:44

oohh go solars! So pleased you are ready to do your trigger. Did they say whether the latecomers were ready? It sounds like quite a cocktail you've been having to take. I bet your poor arms will be glad for a rest.

keep I don't know whether it's the stims but I had a little cry when I read your post about the scan. You are so right, it really is the moment we dream of. I am so, so pleased for you that you've finally had it. You've had such a long and frustrating wait.

beedle my menopur vial contains enough for four days, too, but I think it probably depends on what dose you have to take. My vials are 600 units and I have to take 150 units per day. I'm going to ignore the last bit of your post because I'm an ostrich and am going to bury my head in the sand because I quite simply am NOT stabbing myself in the gut and drinking disgusting milkshakes for nothing we are brookers and the power of brooking knows no bounds.

kitty BFPs guaranteed around here :)

sweetie no vials to break open here yet, the menopur has a little rubber bung in the end that you have to insert the needle into to draw the drug out. No idea what form the cetrotide will take yet, there is still plenty of opportunity for wrongly-broken vials and cut fingers!

Injection 2 down, and I didn't feel a thing because I was pinching 'the inch' so tight all I could feel were my nails - think I might be getting a little cocky now though. I've booked cinema tickets for tomorrow night and will need to do my injection in the cinema toilets before going in

Just made the mistake of reading the menopur drug advice leaflet - thankfully after taking the injection: "Menopur contains a medicine called menotrophin. This is a mixture of hormones obtained from the urine of women who have passed the menopause". Great. I just injected myself with Old Ladies' Wee Envy

Solars · 26/05/2013 21:26

Thanks Sweetie hope you're getting your head around having twins now. We were given these plastic caps to open up the glass vials so you don't hurt yourself.

Geek a couple of the little ones have caught up a little but we'll see what happens on Tuesday, I'm still thinking about 4. By the way cetrotide is easy too, you'll be fine. I'm glad I didn't read the leaflet when I was taking Menopur Envy

I have taken the trigger shot now and I'm pleased to say I'll be having a lie in tmrw and relieved my poor body won't have to be prodded and poked tmrw either! I am shattered so off to bed now, nite all!

OP posts:
keepitgoing · 27/05/2013 02:44

Oh solars my lovely, well done you on getting this far! A fair few steps done already. Enjoy your day off from drugs, and your lie-in. Very well deserved. I am brooking like mad for a good number of eggs, though IOTO.

geek that is horrible - old ladies wee. I suppose I thought it was manufactured... You are such a sweetheart, and have had a hell of a TTC journey. Thanks goodness you're just 3weeks from your bfp. I can't wait to meet you and sparks when I get home.

beedle personally I think you have a higher-than-average chance. Not just from being a brooker, but also as the issue is sperm, and this is resolved through ivf/icsi, then Boom. Bfp-city. Will you just put one back?

BeedlesPineNeedles · 27/05/2013 07:31

Hope you're enjoying your lie-in solars and masses of good luck for tomorrow. They are very thorough your clinic aren't they? double bloods and double scans on one day, what did they expect was going to change over a few hours?

Thanks for your kind words keep I hope you're right but I'm not exactly a spring chicken. They will almost certainly only put 1 back. I think the only reason they would put 2 back during this cycle would be if we only had 2 fairly rubbish eggs on day 2, then they might put both back but generally the policy is only 1 for women of my age on their first attempt. And they only do 2 day transfers which should hopefully reduce the stress (but probably won't).

geek I read that the other day too

So first blood test done this morning, I have to ring them this afternoon to find out if they want to change my dose and to find out when they want me to come in for a scan.

BlindKitty · 27/05/2013 07:56

Urghh!!! Menopur is gross!!!!!!

Glad to hear you're all cracking on with the assisted conceptions well! I'm so jealous of you all. Really don't think I'll get pregnant naturally now. Not even sure the iui will work, think I'm just doing it so I can say we've tried it and move onto ivf!

BeedlesPineNeedles · 27/05/2013 08:12

I wonder how they recruit the post-menopausal women to provide the wee, do you think they pay well? :o

BlindKitty · 27/05/2013 08:18

And how do they collect it? I'm envisaging a battery farm of old ladies sat on toilets!

BeedlesPineNeedles · 27/05/2013 09:35

:o

ControlGeek · 27/05/2013 09:48

Oh you ladies do make me laugh - though I did wonder about the recruitment process myself. I keep imagining a newspaper ad along the lines of "Are you post menopausal? Is your aim good? Why not pee in our pot for cash!"

solars I hope you don't read this post for hours, because you are having the mother of all lie-ins! Well done on your trigger, I hope today is restful for you. Yay for no bloods!

beedle good luck for your blood results, I'm brooking that your ovaries are well and truly awake, and churning away at their golden egg factory. I'd forgotten they have to go back in on day 2 in Sweden, at least you won't have a long period of will-they-won't-they and waiting for update calls.

kitty don't count yourself out just yet my dear, you're a brooker now! There is plenty of time to go, and things to try, before you need to start injecting yourself with old ladies' wee IVF.

Quick question for the IVFers past and present - how much time around EC/ET are you planning on taking off? Is there much recovery time needed from EC, ie do you need at least the next day off work? Is it advisable to have a couple of days off after ET, to let the emby bed in?

ControlGeek · 27/05/2013 09:54

I remember what I was going to say - my clinic said nothing about drinking milk, and they just said the menopur might make me feel a bit thirsty so to make sure I drink plenty (no hint as to quantities though). They also don't do blood tests - they determine whether your stims need to go up or down purely on what they see in the scans. I don't know if this is because I am NHS, maybe they give their private patients a more thorough picture. Isn't it strange how different the procedures are between clinics.

keepitgoing · 27/05/2013 10:05

Mmm, I thought they had to keep an eye on oestrogen, if too high they won't put embies back. And Lh, to check yore not gonna ov. But I'm sure they know what they're doing, you just have to trust them.

Geek, I'd say you could do a desk job the day after EC. Ditto ET, I was told no lifting or stairs or exertion for 3-4 days post transfer (5 day), I guess that's when the emby would implant, nor sure if you do day two. But you could work. Any way of avoiding sink boss stress though?

keepitgoing · 27/05/2013 10:09

And its protein you need geek, not nec milk. To grow juicy eggs. Steak'd do it...

I kind of preferred day 5- I knew what was happening and felt it wasn't up to me... And shorter tww. But those phone calls were scary!

BeedlesPineNeedles · 27/05/2013 10:15

well geek I have booked Mon-wed off next week, told my boss I might work from home a bit, and if I'm lucky and everything goes to plan and I have EC on Mon I will also get an extra day off after ET as Thurs is a holiday here. I think too much time at home will give me too much time to stress about everything.

Oh and they said nothing about milk to me either. And I'd have thought a blood test would be cheaper than a scan, so I don't think you're getting a "worse/cheaper" service. I assume my clinc does teh first blood test to help them decide when to do the first scan. I'm not sure if they will do any more blood tests later.

I think my ovaries are awake, I could definately feel them whilst I was walking this morning (well I think I could, something felt sort of heavy down there) and I'm having masses of EWCM. And I think I might be giving off "take me now" pheromones as MrB was quite rampant yesterday :o

ControlGeek · 27/05/2013 10:18

Thanks keep, I'm keeping absolutely everything crossed that I can get to a day 5 transfer. But of course that all depends on the number of eggs, fertilisation rate, how well they grow etc.

If I'm at work there is no chance whatsoever of avoiding dink boss stress. I have a week's annual leave booked at the beginning of July that I will be bringing forward to hopefully coincide with finding out if this round's been successful or not. Re EC/ET, I can take up to five days as self-certified sick leave without needing a dr's note so I was thinking of taking the day after EC off, depending what day that falls on, and a couple of days after ET.

When you get the call from the clinic, do they say 'come in tomorrow for transfer', or 'they're ready, get your ass in here now'? That could make it kind of awkward to explain...

ControlGeek · 27/05/2013 10:35

Just seen I've x-posted - beedle I have just laughed into my coffee at the 'take me now' pheromones, brilliant! I seem to recall keep had found a science paper suggesting that a bit of SFF around EC/ET (can't remember which - must re-read!) was highly beneficial. WFH sounds like a good idea, I might see if I can do that between EC and ET, minimise the dink boss stress as much as possible Grin

BeedlesPineNeedles · 27/05/2013 10:38

I just hope its only MrB that can detect them, I work with quite a few men Blush

keepitgoing · 27/05/2013 10:41

Sff just before ET!
Geek that sick leave sounds like a plan.

They said to us on day 3 that we'd be a day5, but I don't know what they'd have done if they weren't doing well on d3. Get here now!! Cue 'migraine' for work...?
