Hi, I have tested very early about 9 days after the 'act' and I had a very very faint line that I could only see if I really waived it around in certain lights but it was definitly there straight away.. any thoughts ? could it be a positive this early, I am about 9 days from af ??

OP posts:
Twiglett · 20/05/2006 20:55

is it a pregnancy test or an ovulation predictor kit

Twiglett · 20/05/2006 20:56

hang on .. its an hcg predictor right? pregnancy test?

yes if its positive you're pregnant .. you don't get false positives, just false negatives and they can normally show around 10 days after conception so 9 days is ok

breakfastfairy · 20/05/2006 21:07

yes, home pregnancy test the cheapo pack for about £7.00 for two, used one last month which was negative. It was a very faint line, perhaps I imagined it ? we bd on day 9 of my cycle so not that fertile then I assume ? Im feeling extremely premenstural today and sensitive to everything.. could well be nothing and I shall test again later ?

OP posts:
breakfastfairy · 20/05/2006 21:08

mind you, I have low cramping pains, perhaps its ovulation pains and I did read once on another thread that ovulation can give a positive reading ?

OP posts:
Twiglett · 20/05/2006 21:10

congratulations

it is early

test again in 3 days

but I would say a line is a line

and you can ovulate at any stage of your cycle (take it from someone who ovulates on day 23 .. which is also not the average 14 day)

nicnack2 · 20/05/2006 21:13

with ds 1 did test 5 days before period cos i was feeling odd (it was out of date by 4 years) ds1 was not planned. DS2 was very planned and did test a week after most fertile time and did have very faint line. dont want to raise your hopes though

breakfastfairy · 20/05/2006 21:15

just wondered also if the sainsburys one wasnt very accurate or reliable and perhaps you could see a faint line even if negative ?

if it's only 9 days since you had intercourse and you had sex on day 9 then am I right in saying you're only on day 18 now? If so that's extremely early to get a positive result. I would buy a digital test and wait another week. how long are your cycles usually?

yes, thanks for that advice, I think I will wait for a couple more days and then try a better quality test. I am quite excited have a dd1 who is 3 and as I am now 41 it would be a lucky break if I really am positive !!

OP posts:
breakfastfairy · 21/05/2006 14:05

my cycle is normally 26 days

finger crossed for you breakfastfairy.let us know:)

Can I crash this thread to add another hpt question (it does relate honestly!!)
Has anyone known a CB digital to be wrong?

Just wondered....bit of research y'know (and wishful thinking!!)

wannaBe1974 · 22/05/2006 06:54

wrong as in false positive? or false negative?

False negatives are possible and quite common, but false positives are almost unheard of.

breakfastfairy · 22/05/2006 12:55

oh Trefusis, that sounds ominous then, if you had faint lines and it was negative for you.. now Im starting to think Im not pregnant, to be honest we had sex on day 9/10 of my cycle so it may well be totally out of the question.. I ovulated Im sure nearer day 13/14 and then the little fishies wouldnt be around anymore at that time to fertilise an egg ?

sorkycake · 22/05/2006 14:08

Sperm can survive for 4-5 days in fertile cm breakfastfairy. That's how I got Dd, sex only on monday (dh on course away), ovulated on friday, jobs a good un'!

With my first pregnancy I tested first with a Sainsbury's kit, and then because it was Sainsbury's and it didn't feel right to get a test kit from there I bought one from Boots too. And then I thought maybe the more expensive one would be better....
Suffice it to say, the Sainsbury's test was correct, and I could have saved a lot of money by believing it.

breakfastfairy · 22/05/2006 17:11

wow ! I think I will buy the better tests tomorrow and test either tomorrow or four days from AF, I suppose I should really just wait to see if AF arrives that would be the 'sensible !' thing to do ..........

OP posts:
nicnack2 · 22/05/2006 20:44

but you wont wait to see if AF arrives. :) With DS1 following the out of date test 5 days prior to AF went out and tested myself with 3 other makes just to be sure!

breakfastfairy · 23/05/2006 09:20

It strange how this 'baby' thing affects us isnt it, logically I think a baby, oh can I cope with it all again ? I had a bit of pnd and that was a bit scary and yet Ill be so disappointed if its negative, Im even a bit scared to test again as it may be negative.. perhaps Ill wait another couple of days so I can think I still am ! hmmmmmm

wannaBe1974 · 23/05/2006 11:29

ok let me work this out ..

you say you had sex on cd 9, but you think you ovulated on cd14, when you posted this message you'd had sex 9 days ago which would have put you on cd18, therefore you would only (according to your experience) have ovulated 4 days prior. tbh I think it's extremely unlikely you would get a bfp so soon, even if the sperm had survived long enough and an egg has been fertilised, you still won't get a bfp until implantation has occurred, and implantation doesn't occur until 7-10 days after fertilisation.

I would wait until your af is due before testing :)
