As if ttc wasn't nerve wrecking enough, we like the extra challenge of getting that BFP while still breastfeeding a baby or toddler. While this isn't an easy endouvour, it certainly isn't impossible as many graduates on the previous threads prove.

I'm posting a link here for any newcomers about fertility while breastfeeding.

Am also wonderig if you'd like to have some sort of stats for the tread members. I'll just start myself.

That's so interesting Three Smile and so sweet that your DD was teaching DS what to do! I wonder what it was that gave you such bad nursing aversion... just hormonal changes I guess. I can totally sympathise though as I have been getting a bit (and the skin crawling feeling) whenever AF arrives. Nowhere near as bad as you though! I admire your commitment to it, I don't think I would be as staunch Hmm

Sorry to hear your DD is still ill Wild. Hope she won't be ill on her birthday and miss out on the fun! How are you feeling so far (other than extremely excited Grin )

I might give expressing another go then Sunny, I tried about a month ago and was very unsuccessful, although I was trying in the evening when DD hadn't fed so may explain why. She's not been that fussed on the lunchtime feed lately anyway, so probably wouldn't have to be much to keep her happy. I'm only looking to go back part time, 3 day a week max, but it's still a big change! Does your DH look after your DS when you're at work? I'm hoping my DH will look after DD 1 or 2 days then to find a child minder for the rest of the time.

Hmm Sunny I am not sure I can say anything useful... My CM tends to be a bit all over the place (not literally Grin). I do think your cycle length could be different following the pg and bf though. Perhaps throw in a couple of SWI to be on the safe side?

Any of you knowledgable ladies know the percentage a women still breast feeding when their DC turns 1? A couple of people have made me feel that is is an odd unusual thing to do but surely there must be many of us?

eggs No idea on the nursing aversion - must have been something to do with her latch I think because I didn't/don't get it with DS. There's a support group on FB which is pretty good, just nice to know you're not alone! I'm guessing it's just nature's way of encouraging you to wean (I kept thinking of seeing other mammals just swatting their offspring away when they were fed up of nursing and wishing I could do the same!).

I wasn't really staunch, it was just such a big important thing for her and I kept thinking that it was only for such a small fraction of her life etc - it just seemed more important to her to keep going than it was to me to stop I guess. And on the plus side I didn't get any sadness about stopping, I was just like WOO FUCKING HOO Grin

Sunny no idea I'm afraid but if I might overshare, I was very damp around CD12 or so, just before when FertilityFriend reckoned I would ov (going by cycle length alone) but then had loads of EWCM around CD16 and 17, so quite a big gap. But agree with Wild, might as well fit in a quickie just in case Wink

Wild I guess you are unusual for feeding after 12 months, given so few babies get any bm at all after 6 weeks/four months. I do know quite a lot of mums who bf toddlers though, though I tend to move in hippie/leftie circles, which probably makes a difference. Also think a lot of people just don't mention it, so you probably know more people doing it than you think :)

CorporeSarnie · 29/08/2013 13:08

wild, I agree with three and sunny; I think a reasonable number of people do extended bf, not so many talk about it, I don't discuss BF DD now, unless directly asked, as it really isn't anyone else's business.
I'm unconvinced that CM is particularly accurate as a way of figuring out what is going on, given that (for me at least) it is so variable. I can get several days of quite a lot of EWCM one cycle and hardly any the next - this may be an indication that my hormones are crazy, but I think there is more to do with hydration status, general health etc., involved as well.

mamapants · 30/08/2013 07:53

hi poking my head back in to see how you are all doing.glad to see a bfp on the thread.
Am now about 7 weeks pregnant and bf is still going strong.
I only know a few people still bf later on but not that many. Different to you guys though I do mention it in passing because I think its a shame people keep it a secret. I would like people to think of it as normal and natural so I'll mention it and ust ignore any stupidity I get back.S

Wildwaterfalls · 30/08/2013 11:14

Hmmm yes I think you're probably right - most people don't talk about it. My NCT group is very supportive - 25% still bf.

How's it going on the EWCM front sunny?

I'm going to stay on the thread for a bit if that's ok - would miss you guys and also won't quite get my hopes up until we've had a good early scan.

Thanks for advice on expressing Sunny, I think I might have to get a better pump then (only have a manual one). And do something to get milk back up too as I've got hardly enough for DD at the moment Hmm

That's great so many of your NCT group are still BF Wild! 2 of my group just gave up 2 weeks ago, 1 is giving up as soon as baby turns 1 and couple of others have dropped out along the way. My mum keeps asking why I'm still feeding DD Hmm i just say 'well what reason have I got to stop?'

Well I thought AF would be here yesterday, but still just lots of spotting.... Grrr cos I wish she'd just hurry up and come so my milk will comeback up! Although maybe it means LP is getting longer? I always take D1 as 1st day I need a tampon Blush

boombangcrash · 31/08/2013 08:59

Hello again, sorry for the late response sunny, I am 35....(36 in April) I am hoping AF will return by the time DS is two (November). Hmm
He is nursing soooooo much at the moment, at every opportunity throughout the day(5 times last night), no new teeth in sight!!
Finding it hard going at the moment, exhausted, loosing too much weight,( even though I am eating like a horse). Don't feel very healthy, which is all not good for the return of AF.....lets hope this 'phase' passes fairly quickly, or I may have to resort to wearing skin tight polar neck jumpers!Grin.

boombangcrash · 31/08/2013 09:04

How many times can I use ' at the moment' in the same paragraph!!!! Brain has also been replaced with cotton woolGrin!!!!!!!!

Thanks sunny......I am going to get my positive head back on, you know what it's like, some weeks seem so much harder than others!! I know that DS is no where near ready for weaning and I intend to be there for as long as possible. Smile. You must have been so glad you didn't have to wean, gives me hope :)

39 is definately not too old.

Have started the folic acid (or frolic acid according to my computer)Grin....yes, think more snacks might be the way to go.

No testing yet Sunny, I was only expecting AF as normally comes around 8dpo... so only 11dpo now. I had implantation spotting with DD but was much lighter IIRC... more mucous with little bits of blood Blush... (sorry totally TMI here I know... that should be the title of the next thread I reckon!) I wonder if it's just a very light period because I'm not actually ov'ing yet??? although I get a bbt rise which I thought pretty much confirmed it so. Arghhhh I don't know!

Boom, snacks are definitely the way to go Smile nuts are really easy and plenty of good fats in there, and can keep a stash in your bag for when you're out and about (I'm shocking for forgetting about lunch when I'm out!) I found some really yummy things the other day on the rawterian website (i'm not into weird diets, but a friend made some!). Yummy chocolate shortcake, but made all from nuts, coconut, dates and honey, so lots of good nutrients and no sugar (other than honey!). Would be good for BF!

Are you into dtd week yet Sunny? IKWYM about having DS wake up every time you're just about to swi Smile Makes things much harder!

Hi all, I've been lurking on your thread for a while- nice to feel others in a similar situation! I'm 35 and have 2 DDs, still feeding DD2 who's 25mths and no AF yet, although this months I've had a variety of CM and really sore boobs. I've only had one AF since before I got pregnant with DD1 and got pregnant with DD2 the next month when DD1 was 14mths. It was a different situation as I was exclusively expressing for her, she has cerebral palsy and is tube fed. I'd like to start trying for DC3 in January for will need AF to turn up first :/
