Thanks buzzy - very reassuring. I've emailed Louise and she's suggested a scan so will have a chat about progynova as well - thank you. Congrats to you, cartoon, clabbage and mollie - so wonderful to see! xx

Hi Ladies can i ask a quick question?

When you start taking the steroids and you have to take them for a minimum of 10 days do you have to test on day 10 to see if you get a positive PT?
Or do you carry on taking them for a couple of more days to see if you get a positive?

thanks in advance
x

buzzybee123 · 22/06/2013 16:44

team I haven't done this for ages but from what I can remember yes you start taking it from Ovulation then you can test at 1opdpo to see if you get your BFP, you can take them a couple more days and see what happens, I liled to test early mainly because I couldn't stand being on the steroids

cartoontrickster · 22/06/2013 17:26

dozie I think it us best to test early. but watch out because some people don't get a positive that early. the mistake I made last time was I started the steroids as soon as I got a smiley on the opk and my bfp took a couple of days to show. so I'd run out of steroids because I maybe started a day or 2 earlier than I needed and I thought I wasn't pregnant so I missed two days worth but apparently they stay in your system for a few days so it wasn't a problem but I did worry myself. unfortunately I miscarried at 12 and a half weeks but that was due to chromosomes. nothing to do with the treatment.

teamdozie · 22/06/2013 17:51

Thank you buzzy and cartoon

i wasnt sure if you take it for the 10 days and if neg then stop and try next month. I have always tested positive really early so fingers crossed..

i am a bit worried at the moment.. i am currently on hydroxyclorequin (not sure if thats how you spell it) for six weeks and im currently 4&1/2 weeks in.. and on day 13 of my cycle and DH and I have been really careful until yesterday (SORRY TMI) so not sure what to do this month if i should take the steroids or not.. I feel like a naughty school girl who has been up to no good lol...

sorry just venting..

thanks once again ladies

buzzybee123 · 22/06/2013 17:57

if you think there is a chance and you can tolerate the steroids then maybe take them, i would worry if I didn't but thats just me

teamdozie · 22/06/2013 18:02

im exactly the same.. i would worry more if i didnt take them..
how bad are the steroids? i took some years ago for something different and i piled on the pounds..

cartoontrickster · 22/06/2013 18:35

I don't find them too bad. if your just going to be worrying then I would take them. I didn't start them till bfp this time but that's because it was a bit of am accident. doesnt seem to have made a difference though. I think there are a few ladies who have choosen to start them from bfp.

teamdozie · 22/06/2013 19:21

im not sure i said congrats on your scan by the way.. its all such wonderful news

i will probably take them then.. i just didnt want to get into trouble with Dr S.. lol ive also had so many loses it is so scary when they tell you to do something and then you deviate .. but then again thats my own fault really..

cartoontrickster · 22/06/2013 19:39

he was a bit disapproving to be honest haha. but you should do what ever you feel is best.

teamdozie · 23/06/2013 08:59

haha it doesn't surprise me!! LOL..
well in my typical style im ovulating today.. so even earlier than i thought.. i will email Louise and see what she says.

Tumtimes1 · 24/06/2013 10:02

Hi Guys - I just wanted to feedback that actually this mid cycle bleed I had on Friday turned into a PERIOD? Which is still ongoing. So this period came on day 16... Has anyone had any experience of irregular periods on the steroids? I have NEVER had an irregular period and now I take the pred for 10 days last month and this happens??
Any advice is appreciated xxx

buzzybee123 · 24/06/2013 11:46

tums sorry I found that the steroids made my periods lighter and my cycles longer, it could be unrelated how long have you been on the steroids

Tumtimes1 · 24/06/2013 11:53

Hi buzzy I have been on the pred for one cycle so far at 25mg and for ten days. I've wondering if that WAS a chemical last month?? And that is why my cycle is has bug*ered up. xx

duggs1976 · 24/06/2013 14:53

Without alarming anyone steroids can have quite an effect on your hormone levels and cycles particularly if you've been on them a long time. Thyroid levels, insulin levels became all messed up for me so do keep a close eye. A few of us have "made up" our own checks and if not successful after 6 mths on dr s programme perhaps look further afield? I don't think you ladies are in that camp yet but pred from BFP seems to be as effective as anything. We are not sure if many of this is blind luck as some folk stopped altogether and had successful pregnancies too. Dr s doesn't seem to re test levels either so you are a bit blind as time passes on. Try pred from bfp or look at lower doses as other programmes offer lower doses and seem to be effective too. Hope that helps a little.

Tumtimes1 · 24/06/2013 15:52

Thanks very much duggs. I have my first appointment with Dr Gorgy (want a second oppinion on Dr S to be honest) this thursday and I will speak to him about this then too. I really hope its not the steroids as I have only been on them the one cycle for 10 days.

I never have an irregular cycle and this has really thrown me! xxx

teamdozie · 24/06/2013 16:20

Hi Tum

didnt want to read and run but wanted to say im sure all is well.. its so hard not to worry when you are given so many different things to take.
its my first cycle on the steroids too.. in fact i only started today and im petrified..
Hope your appointment with Dr Gorgi is good.. would you mind letting me know how it goes cause i have also been thinking of doing the same too..

stay positive
x

Tumtimes1 · 24/06/2013 16:38

Hiya teamdozie sure thing, no problem at all will keep you posted. xx

duggs1976 · 24/06/2013 18:36

Suemays has posted on our other thread about assisted fertility after recurrent miscarriage about someone she knows who is due in sep after 8 mc and several failed IVF rounds under dr GorgyGrin he covers everything pretty much and follows dr beer Chicago full panel testing and other areas outside of immunology so much wider scope than dr s so you will be in good hands. Take a note pad as he isnt the easiest to understand. Best of luck.

Tumtimes1 · 25/06/2013 09:15

I am well excited! I will keep you posted as to how it goes! Thats amazing! I have read the Dr Beer book and will re-read to make sure I have all my questions at the ready xx

teamdozie · 25/06/2013 09:31

girls just a quick question..

when you have been taking the steroids for 10 days and you get a negative do you just stop the steroids or are they supposed to be tapered down?

From what i understood from Louise you just stop them.. is that correct?

also has anyone ever suffered headaches from them? im on day two and ive got a headache again..
xx

cartoontrickster · 25/06/2013 09:57

dozie I'm pretty sure you just stop. and yes you Will get headaches drink lots. I find they make me really thirsty anyway.

duggs1976 · 25/06/2013 13:03

Yes if only on 25mg stop. Yes headaches and all sorts of anxiety and insomnia. You don't mind if pregnant but not if you keep getting BFNs. Watch thyroid and other hormone levels as can be affected by prolonged use of steroids. Dr S doesn't watch only liver function test so you have to be vigilant yourselves!

Arianrhod · 25/06/2013 15:34

Liver function test is only for hydroxychloroquine isn't it duggs, under Mr S? I didn't have this tested when I was on just pred without hydroxy. And I'm another one whose AFs were disrupted by taking pred. It's a bit of a minefield.

teamdozie · 25/06/2013 16:09

thanks duggs & arian

its all so complicated.. and so scary.. Dr S has given me details of blood tests they will be doing on me after cycle 2 so i will double check but i am sure liver function is on them (I'm on hydroxy).

i have only been on hydroxy for 4 1/2 weeks DH and i had a little bit of an accident ;-) just once though but Louise told me to start just in case..
so fingers crossed lol
