aquarius - I'm cd8 too - weird...maybe something sometimes happens on that day....

Fairydogmother · 20/02/2013 14:34

Boodle I've had an underactive thyroid for nearly 23 years! I was 11 when I was diagnosed first.

I've been searching around for my last results but I cant find them right now - when I do I'll post them. There are 2 readings you need to ask for and my dumb brain has forgotten what they are! TSH is one and theres another. A common side effect of hypothyrodism is what I call 'brain fog' lol. Other than that I am constantly cold, struggle to maintain my weight and suffer from muscle aches and pains. Keeping weight down is totally key in my opinion. You need to avoid refined sugars if you are hypo as your body cant process them properly. I also get issues with my skin such as cuts that wont heal etc plus eczema. I've been stable for years on a varying daily dose - 1 day was 200mg and the next was 175mg. But my last blood test said I was verging into hyper so it was reduced to 175mg daily. I did notice shaking, night sweats and palpatations so I should have known myself! The British Thyroid Foundation has a good website.

I'll post those results later sure - the bit of paper is here somewhere lol x

Pipbin · 20/02/2013 14:52

Did we all read today that they are upping the top age limit for IVF to 42!

MotherOfCleo · 20/02/2013 15:45

Hi boodle I did heaps of research as my post ov spotting was getting me down, the main reason it seems for it can be a drop in progesterone. I looked into any negative effects it can have and for the natural creams it seems that it cant really hurt.

I bought a natural cream which uses wild yam and have used it since 3 days past ov. In myself I feel better, not moody or uptight at all, I feel like I am actually doing something to help myself too which is nice.

I been totally symptom and spotting free which has been nice! Today I have some mild mild cramps and had pinkish cm when I wiped earlier but nothing since. FX that is a good sign and not my body trying to start spotting again.

Currently in my opinion anything is worth trying. I just didnt see how an egg could implant when I was spotting all through my LP.

Im shit at going to the docs as I dont see there being anything 'wrong' with me. I am healthy and well so dont want to seem silly....daft I know.

p.s sorry for the long post

twinklestar2 · 20/02/2013 17:02

Boodle - The appt went really really well. The consultant was lovely. He said its likely to be taking a long time because of hubs morphology so he's told my hub to stop his occasional smoking and cut out drinking completely for 3 months and then get another SA done.

I'm booked in to have my tubes flushed in 2 weeks. So it was actually a good thing that today was cd1 as you have to book that in on the first day of your cycle.

He said if hub implants those lifestyle changes and still nothing we have to go straight for IVF which I'm ok with because at least then I know we have tried everything.

He talked through my test results and said everything with me is fine. I'm ovulating every month and I have a good egg reserve.

He said his most successful patients are the ones in our position - where the woman is young and the man has problems with his sperm.

So I'm feeling much more positive.

Bunnygirlie · 20/02/2013 20:31

2cats yep I need DH to find his mojo for next cycle, here's to DTD more than twice! lol

thunder is it wrong that I am now humming thundercats whilst thinking about clenching and squats thunder thunder thunder thunder buns!

boodle bring on the immaculate conception, it would make things easier!

twinkle sounds positive Smile Yay!

Boodle9 · 20/02/2013 20:37

Twinkle, I'm really glad that it went well for you and 3 months will no doubt fly by; you must feel quite good to have a clear time frame for things to be happening in. Hurrah for good news on the thread!

Fairy, thanks for the thyroid info. Am I right in thinking that it's quite unusual to be diagnosed so young? I don't know what my T4 readings were (I'm assuming that was the second reading you were referring to as I've read elsewhere that T4 and TSH are the important ones.) as I foolishly didn't ask! Was told they were 'normal' and that TSH were slightly high but still within the range. (Which I have since discovered is disputed.)
I am constantly cold, I struggle with my weight, my hair has started breaking easily, my skin is dry and cracked (on hands), I get weird aching pains in my right arm, I can't concentrate well and get 'cloudy brain' as I've tended to call it. If left to it, I will sleep for ages and still feel tired, and then there's the short luteal phase and infertility to stick on top! The more I read, the more convinced I am that my problems are thyroid linked. I'm just hoping the fertility specialist will at least agree that further investigation is needed.

Mother, do you mind me asking the name of the cream you chose? I've read mixed things about the wild yam stuff so it's interesting to hear that si far, it's helping you!

Soph80 · 20/02/2013 20:55

twinkle - just told dh what your consultant said to your dh re stopping drinking altogether but didn't get a great response lol x

Bunnygirlie · 20/02/2013 21:04

Soph I think my hubby would leave me if I told him to stop drinking lol

Soph80 · 20/02/2013 21:22

well we've both cut down to 7units, begrudgingly!!!

Fairydogmother · 20/02/2013 21:44

Boodle - I stupidly went to the Gp about my asthma today and forgot to ask for a copy of my tsh and t4 results! Duh! To top it off I have a chest infection ffs lol. But I'll get them tomorrow and post. Def def sounds like hypo and I have to say people don't appreciate how bloody awful it can be. Ask for a specialist endocrinology referral as I was diagnosed by a professor (my mom worked in the hospital!) and that was the best thing to get stuff sorted. Gps don't know what they're talking about. Keep a strict diary of symptoms too. B vitamins help with the tiredness plus get loads of fresh air exercise - it does help promise! I use botanica natural herbal cream all over me and its the best plus totally natural. It's made just down the road from me too! Def flag that up when it comes to conceiving too as its a known factor when people have issues x

Fairydogmother · 20/02/2013 21:45

O and forgot to say that yes I got is ridiculously early! But undiagnosed in a mother can lead to cretinism (yes!) with birth defects etc x

twinklestar2 · 20/02/2013 22:47

soph and bunny - after 19 months, well 20 now, we are willing to try anything. Oh has really cut down anyway, so he's been practicing anyway.

h313n · 21/02/2013 00:15

I've been pretty much tee total for over a year while we've been ttc, and only having the occasional half glass of wine when I know I'm between AF and ovulation. I found out this week that my DP's brother is expecting their second, shortly before my temperatures went sky high (much higher than ever before) and I was late, and we'd done CBFM for the first cycle..... But then I got AF and I went to the pub and had a few drinks....

Fairydogmother · 21/02/2013 07:13

Think you deserved a few drinks after that x

Bunnygirlie · 21/02/2013 08:28

Well AF is def on her way, itchy bitch is in town which means evil witch will follow shortly Sad

captainmoll · 21/02/2013 09:33

Morning all! Hello H3l3n

It's second attempt at DH getting to the GP for his test results today, so could be an interesting evening..

Sorry to hear about AF ruining everyone's fun. FX for the next round!

navis176 · 21/02/2013 10:06

fx for the results captain

I often wonder if I'm drinking too much while ttc - but after 2 years or so when added together that would have been way too much not drinking!! And there are millions of people who get upduffed while drunk. And it's only a generation or so ago that everyone quite merrily drank the entire way through their pregnancy and we all seem to have turned out ok

Thunderbuns · 21/02/2013 10:14

Hello everyone,

bunny whatever floats your boat with the humming and squatting... Yeah the new name is rather suggestive but if it paints a picture of me with super hero tight buttocks then I'm happy with that. And besides I thought it was better than thunderbaps which has a different connotation entirely.

boodle, sounds like you need to flag up your thyroid worries with the specialist as you say. Hope you get some answers.

h3l3n I don't blame you for needing a few drinks after that- how cruel af is at times!

No news here, just waiting for af in the next few days so we can crack on with a less immaculate conception in march.

twinkle, good news on the consultation, it looks very positive for you and I'm sure it's reassuring to be told this, and given a time window too.

MotherOfCleo · 21/02/2013 10:16

of course boodle its actually a natural progesterone cream with wild yam extract, its called natures source natural progesterone cream, seems to be working for me.......I hope.

FX for everyone else and a damn good kick in the chops to the evil witch for ruining peoples days.

Boodle9 · 21/02/2013 14:17

Hellooooo! Sniggering away at Thunderbaps! That should be your next name!

Well, I've plucked up the courage to go back to the doctors next week. I'm going to take a copy of the NHS Clinical Knowledge Summary (which talks about when treatment should be considered for subclinical hypothyroidism) with me and I'm going to ask for a treatment trial. If they refuse, I'm going to ask for a referral. Yes I am. Yes I am. Yes I am. (Will probably sit in surgery and cry until they tell me to come back in 6 months...)

Mother, I think I have the same progesterone cream in my drawer upstairs! I bought it about 8 months ago and was never brave enough to use it. Perhaps I will if it goes well for you! (Boodle pushes her new guineapig, Mother, forward into the hormonal firing line and cowardly peeks around the corner...)

CatsCantFlyFast · 21/02/2013 14:23

boodle we shall all shout at you motivate you to be firm and hold your ground with the doc. What day are you going?
Snigger at peering round corner

CatsCantFlyFast · 21/02/2013 14:24

Oh Ps it's 2cats, finally name changed

h313n · 21/02/2013 14:24

navis176 I think I'm going to go along with your excellent justification. I've got 4 weddings to attend this year as well as at least one hen do and a couple of 40th birthday parties. While AF keeps appearing every month I think I'll go back on the alcohol. In moderation, and in strict moderation post O and pre AF, but the tee total thing hasn't helped me for the past 14 cycles!!!
