Doff your top hats, lean on your canes, 'tis a Victorian Christmas for the BESH. Baste those turkeys in Victoria & Albert style, and maintain a stiff upper lip when you fill in the BESHtionnaire to see if you are cynical stoic enough to win a Baybee.

Yes ok, we'll holiday together. They can run up mountains, do a million press ups and surf the most insane point break before breakfast and we'll sip madeira.

SinkyMalinks · 05/01/2013 21:42

Ah, but ghj is also the career type. In the most traditional or alpha male, type 1 personality job. Suffice to say, part time is not an option for him.

Bah. Will snap out of it now

More holiday chatter pls. We were going to go skiing in feb, but not managed to get the time off booked, but am looking around for something else. Going to Skye for a week in April, but need abit of R&R before that.

TWinklyLittleStar · 05/01/2013 21:45

I can do holiday chatter. I love holidays, went to Norway a few years ago - stunning but scary expensive - 2 sandwiches and 2 drinks cost £60.

JethroTull · 05/01/2013 21:45

Sink I think that sometimes, SSG would definitely be the better parent. Slight problem in that earns double what I do so him being a SAHD is not practical. I struggled to cope with a puppy so how will I ever cope with a baby?

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 05/01/2013 21:46

We've been trying to plan a trip to New York since last year. We were supposed to go just before Christmas, but HWHNN's job move put the mockers on that. We're going to try and go in May-ish.

I haven't had a proper holiday since September 2009, when we had a week in Venice Sad. In 2010 all we managed was a weekend in Prague. In 2011 we moved house so couldn't afford a holiday and 2012 was the aborted New York trip. I'm demanding 2 holidays this year - New York plus a beachy/sunny holiday

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 05/01/2013 21:48

TDAT film made me nervous. Mostly at how bad the acting was Hmm

Sinks I guess that's true of everyone....you either adapt or change your life when baybees arrive. But it's ok to be morose. Specially on a Saturday night!

JethroTull · 05/01/2013 21:49

£60?? Jeez!!

On our honeymoon a magnum cost £6. I nearly choked on it.

My friends have just been to Norway, no Northern Lights because of a snow cloud or something. I need SUN. Lying on a sun lounger in my bikini SUN.

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 05/01/2013 21:49

Ooh TWink happy burfday! Did you have fun?

EuroShagmore · 05/01/2013 22:01

Sinky Norway or Iceland. Not sure yet. It's spennier than I expected. Our plan this year is to do several long weekends instead of longer holidays, so they are easier to fit around fertility treatment and we always have something to look forward to, to take our minds off all the shit.

£60 for lunch? Bloody hell. Maybe Iceland.

Happy Birthday Twink!

I am slightly drunky. And my boobs are hurty.

I am not sure what we will do if sproglet ever arrives. My job is not very sprog-friendly: long hours and a fair bit of travel. I am probably the most ambitious out of the two of us though. And at the moment the main earner by about £40k, so that is a consideration. We have discussed each going to 4 days a week and alternating the day off, so sprog is in nursery for 3 days a week. If we both kept working full time, we would need a nanny, for the flexibility.

SinkyMalinks · 05/01/2013 22:03

Ooh, did I miss the burfday bit of twinks gallivanting? Hope its all fun!

My family used to live in Sweden (I was 0-2 - dont ask me much!) and the expense (along with front door on ground and first floor to allow for the snow), esp of alcohol is the main theme whenever mentioned!

I once sat in the grand plaza in Milan with a group of friends, over looking the Duamo cathedral. We decided to have a few drinks... £200 later...

TWinklyLittleStar · 05/01/2013 22:05

Eh? Tisn't my birthday. But thanks!

euro HWCA has been to Iceland and never stops raving about it, but its also spend-tastic. Think he said a pint of beer was £12.

I also dunno what we would do if a baybee came, we both work shifts and have unpredictable hours and late finishes. But everyone else seems to make it work so am sure we will, somehow.

We're thinking a few days in the south of France, in June. Then I'm going surfing in Wales with a friend in July, and another friend is talking about getting a cottage in Cornwall so we'll probably tag along to that.

SinkyMalinks · 05/01/2013 22:11

Is faife hallucinating? I'm very easily led.. consider it early or late birthday wishes then Wink, depending on if your birthday is in the last 6 months or the next.

TWinklyLittleStar · 05/01/2013 22:13

Both sinks, my birthday is in July.

This time last year I was packing for my astonishingly wonderful 10 days in Canada.

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 05/01/2013 22:17

Hang on, 'twas alwyn's burfday....I am menkul

I am already considering the set shifts I will be doing come November, head spinny...

EuroShagmore · 05/01/2013 22:18

Oh, sozzles. I'll jump on any bandwagon. Grin

I love the South of France, Twinks. I'm hoping we get our usual invite to the outlaws' place in the summer. It is just blissful - lovely weather, bike rides around the vineyards, amazing rosé and stinky cheeses,

I'm also considering Paris. This August is the tenth anniversary of my and KFZK's first meeting (not sure of exact date) and my parents' 40th wedding anniversary. They have never been to Paris and I know my mum would love to go. Neither of them speaks any French, so a joint trip (with a bit of time to ourselves) might be nice. And perhaps Florence or Rome. I quite like the idea of several mini breaks through the year.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 05/01/2013 22:21

OK let's shut up about great places we are going on holiday or have been or places our IL's have now EnvyEnvyEnvy

Bah! Grin

TWinklyLittleStar · 05/01/2013 22:23

I luffs Paris. My ex studied for a year there so I went every few weeks. Cost a fortune but it was wonderful. Haven't been for a long time now. Actually felt a strong urge to just get on the Eurostar this morning and go! Another day perhaps.

I've not been to the South of France. The plan is to hire a car and explore, staying at campsites & gites. Wine, cheese, garlic, snails and steak. Mmmmmmm.

JethroTull · 05/01/2013 22:33

We might go to St Ives again. I luff it there. And we can take the dog. My friend lives near there too Grin

EuroShagmore · 05/01/2013 22:44

Sozzles Rie. I spent years hardly taking any time off and about 2 years ago decided this was stupid City boy willy waving that was just giving my employers something they hadn't paid for, so it is only recently I have been making the most of my leave. And part of it trying to find distractions from the baby-making shyte, of course.

Twink I spent two weeks in Paris for work a couple of years ago. I've been there several times for work but only once, when a student living in France, for tourism. I had no money and so could only do things that were free. I'd like to go back and do some of the stuff you have to pay for!

If you want recommendations for the South of France, then PM me (so I don't annoy Rie). We've gone once or twice a year to see the outlaws for the part few years, so I know the area where their house is v well (Languedoc).

I love Cornwall. I haven't been for years, but we went loads when I was a kid. I have many happy memories.

TWinklyLittleStar · 05/01/2013 22:51

Soz rierie. Am I allowed to talk about Cornwall? I went by myself when I split up from aforementioned ex. I had a bloody brilliant time and fantastic rebound sex with a very inappropriate man

HWCA is back from work and killing zombies on his iPad. Hmm.

Did I mention that I didn't need to POANewYearS as the droid came on New Years Day? Seching With Purpose will begin again, probably tomorrow. This clean living has got until April to get me diffed before I say fuck it and hit the wine again.

Well, I've not been holidaying, but HOTB and I are now back from seeing Jack Reacher. Although Tom Cruise is never going to be an intimidating physical presence, he gave it a good old go and it was an entertaining film (especially the impracticality of using a big American muscle car as a car chase vehicle).

We have been trying to decide where to go for our anniversary (September) this year. We generally do a weekend in a city, so far it's been Edinburgh, Rome, and Windsor, so this year should probably be abroad once more. But where?!

I'm not worried about baybees fitting in to our life. HOTB will be a fab dad, and I have never been career minded - as evidenced by my current career-in-tatters up-in-the-air work situation. I just hope HOTB can continue to keep us afloat, which he is doing pretty well at so far. I am, however, terrified of the idea of adoption, even though if IVF fails it may well be the route we have to take. Of course, we'd have to move house first as our current titchy house is way too small to meet any sort of adoption criteria.

Northey · 06/01/2013 07:39

Don't think we can afford any holiday this year, what with wedding and possible need to self fund further ivf rounds. I suppose we might have a token honeymoon somewhere.

Need to get up soon and head back to London ready for work tomorrow. I can't tell you how much I'd rather stay here :( Though I suppose it's only for two days, and then I will see AMNH again on Wed for next ivf appointment.

Step away from that thread, bugs. The rage will just threaten your wombular calm.
