New thread! Come on girls, lets all get pregnant!!

Hey girls,

We are back from the docs with good news :) Hubby's morphology has gone up :) Only from 1% to 2% (4% is normal) but at least we are getting somewhere!

He was really great. Told us we are doing all the right things and to keep going but he'll refer us for IVF if we want to. We have come home to talk about it.

He said everything is fine with me but I need to have chlamydia test and a smear before I get referred and he's sending my husband for blood tests and a liver function test because we talked about the way my husband had been drinking in the past and the doctor said it was way over the recommended allowance.

It's been so good for OH to see the effects of him cutting down on drinking and he's come home now and downloaded an app to ensure he stays within 21 units and he has said he's not going to let Christmas ruin his hard work.

So fingers crossed it wont be long now!

Feeling much better and positive now.

Sorry for the long post but wanted to share my experience in case it helps anyone else.

Also his count had increased from 35 million to 48 million!

OP posts:
Lolcbcblemonlime · 06/11/2012 17:58

Wow winkle that's fab news! You only need one of those 48 million! Get shagging!

winkle2 · 06/11/2012 18:00

LOL lol I have been! And will be DTD tonight too! Feel like it's going to happen for us soon, looking towards the new year now (ie a few more months to get the morphology up to normal).

Really good news winkle! Still nothing here, think AF is on sabbatical - 8 days over now, think this is the longest I've gone between. Did another test yesterday just in case and definitely nothing doing so am doing my best to write this cycle off and concentrate on dtd'ing for next time.

YikesHereWeGo · 06/11/2012 20:05

Hello everyone!! Hope you're all well. I haven't been on for ages but have recently made the bold step to get referred for fertility tests so wanted to 'share' my update with my ol chums on mumsnet. Have had some blood tests done and have my first hospital appt next week to talk 'next steps'. My doc is still relaxed about everything but I'm 38 now so wanted to make sure I explore my options now before I pass the cut-off for IVF (39 in our area).
I'm intrigued about the booze comments. My doc said she didn't think that made a difference. I'm a bit worried that my DH drinks far too much for ttc so any advice here would be appreciated.
Anyway, still a few months left in 2012 for a BFP!!

redstrawberry · 06/11/2012 20:30

Aww winkle I am so pleased for you! Defo good news to keep DH motivated.

I second that hollow laugh. I have been bottling ttc up for 2 months but nothing yet.this time I'm literally going cold turkey without any OV sticks or temps. Just don't know what will work.

We had some tests done too and all results came back normal. Ie my uterus and ovaries are fine post CP. so don't know why it's taking so bloody long!

winkle2 · 06/11/2012 20:52

always - I had a weird 43 day cycle once, not sure why it just happened. I made up my mind to start again as if it was a new month and then AF came a few days later. Went to the docs and he wasn't very helpful, tbh!

yikes - hi again! good to 'see' you. My OH was drinking 3+ times a week and 7 or more drinks a time. Does your OH stick to the recommended daily allowance for the week cause my OH def wasnt but has started to more recently. And this was the only thing he changed from 1st SA to 2nd SA. He was already on the vits, no hot baths, loose boxers, etc. He was smoking too - only when drinking - but he's cut that back too because he only smokes when he drinks which is less often these days. How much does your OH drink? Might be worth keeping a diary? It's so easy to drink too much as it can become such a normal part of your life esp if you're very sociable like OH and I.

littlemiss - I'm sure as you've got pregnant before you will again soon. I'm sure you wont be waiting much longer.

OP posts:
YikesHereWeGo · 06/11/2012 20:59

Thanks winkle. My DH drinks most nights (except twice a week when we go running) - he drinks about a bottle of wine (or equivalent in beer &/or wine) each time so way over the recommended weekly limit. I've tried nagging / pleading but it doesn't work. He sees himself as a social drinker but mostly he drinks on his own at home. He reckons he saw something on the news 6 months ago saying drinking doesn't affect fertility in men... I don't know if that's right or not? But I find it quite depressing.

winkle2 · 06/11/2012 21:29

I think that's too much. I'm not judging as I have been there myself. Has he had an SA done? The results might shock him (as they did my OH).

He sounds like my OH. He just got himself into a bad habit, I wouldnt say he was an alcoholic.

Can you increase the number of nights you go running from 2-3 subtley? That's another day that he won't be drinking...

OP posts:
Lolcbcblemonlime · 06/11/2012 22:49

That's a good idea. My DH would drink every night if he could but we agreed not to drink at least 3 times a week just for general health.
He drinks Mon as he meets mates after work, then half a bottle of wine or 3/4 beers fri sat and Sunday (but not always).
Special occasions we drink a bit more but still have 3 days a week alcohol free.

winkle2 · 06/11/2012 23:38

Sounds similar to the way we were but we have really cut back and realised it's just a bad habit. Good luck :)

OP posts:
YikesHereWeGo · 07/11/2012 06:08

Thanks both. I think increasing the running might work so will try that. But I really wish he would understand it's for his own good. I hate the way everything we do socially has to involve alcohol. Even going for a walk has to end with a pub. What is the 'SA' you referred to, winkle?

LittleMissSnowShine · 07/11/2012 06:53

winkle - great news!!! Really pleased your dh is starting to see an improvement Grin cos we have been.pretty broke, tired from.running riund after ds abd had quite a lot on in work both me and dh have been.pretty abstemious on the booze front & no sneaky cigs either. So its really good to hear what a positive effect thay can have...

Going to start dtd again tonight cos cd6 here. AF has been so heavy & bleurg this time I feel wiped out and its still not totally gone yet but I want to just get stuck in to dtd eod for next 3 weeks. Got my.folic acid, grapefruit juice & conceive plus on stand by...

winkle2 · 07/11/2012 09:32

Yikes - SA is sperm analysis. Yes everything seems to revolve around drinking! It's very hard. My husband has started saying no to nights out and has cut out drinking at home apart from the odd beer here or there. He is by no means a saint! But I'm just trying to show you that it can be done. It is a total mindset change. My husband now admits he was abusing alcohol and using it to help with stress. Happy for you to talk to you oh about my experience if it helps. Again not judging but if you're 38 then he should be really trying to cut back. Maybe he could see his friends every other Monday instead of every Monday too? I used to say to my husband if any of his mates were trying they'd just stop going out and concentrate on their homelife, they wouldn't consider him.

Red - I just read back and realised I called you littlemiss instead of red - sorry!!

Littlemiss - I'm wondering whether to buy conceive plus. I don't need it but does it help the sperm to live longer, swim faster, etc? As our issue is sperm related I'm wondering whether to invest. We used it back in April but no joy.

OP posts:
redstrawberry · 07/11/2012 10:41

haha I re-read that bit winkle

We tried Conceive Plus for 3 months after the CP but it doesn't seem to have done anything for me. Grapefruit too didnt make much of a change down there...tried that for 2 months.

The month I conceived (CP) was when I took the EPO. Thinking of going back on it next month if no joy this month.

I am just very broody today. I don't know what's overcome me suddenly but I SO badly want to be pregnant this month. I think part of it was because I realized if I don't conceive this month I will be looking at a September 2013 due date next month, which means my kids won't be in the same school year with all my pregnant friends....its a stupid little thing I know... but argh! its just making me feel so poo :(

LittleMissSnowShine · 07/11/2012 22:12

Winkle / red - I bought conceive plus in may but nevee got to use it cos my bfp came along in june so I know I dont need it but guess it cant hurt. Never tried grapefruit juice while ttc either but I like the taste and figure it cant hurt either!

Red - two friends of mine are due in Dec and a woman I work with will be a granny in Jan and her daughter (plus bump) keeos calling into work. I would have been due in Feb and unless I get pg this month then yep, diff school year and a 3 year plus age gap with DS when it wiuld gave been exactly 2.5 years before. Poo poo poo :(

DS sick with a cold and dh watching football with his buddies downstairs so not going to commence dtd til 2m night-and then going to aim for cd 7, 9, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 20, 22 and 24. Ouch!! Come on magic grapefruit juice lol

winkle2 · 07/11/2012 23:00

I've done cd 9, 10, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19 :)

OP posts:
winkle2 · 07/11/2012 23:09

Red don't be sad. I've already missed out on loads of significant dates. It sucks but you have to try and not think about it.

Morning ladies!

Have been avoiding MN recently in an effort to not drive myself scatty on the 2ww - don't take it personally! :o Anyway I'm back now and on CD25, have no symptoms at all and not even feeling premenstrual so nothing much to report I'm afraid.

Right, off to read back and catch up on everyone's news :)

redstrawberry · 08/11/2012 12:14

i am okay today - feeling a bit better. Lots of EWCM today and trying so hard to not spot it.

I too got my faint positive without the conceive plus so never thought I needed it. even after using it for 3 months it never made any difference. Ah! only think is dtd was good fun with it. Its a nice feeling lube Blush if you know what i mean.

Hello kitten no symptoms is still a good sign - hope you get the bfp's rolling in.

Looking to get my first dtd of the month in tonight - whooohooo!

Kittenkatzen · 08/11/2012 12:27

littlemiss good luck with the epic shagathon - I'm knackered just reading about it!

Is grapefruit juice meant to do something good? How does that work then?

yikes wow that does sound like quite a lot for your dh to be drinking that regularly. Can you accidentally leave some research that shows drinking does affect ferility lying around the house/open on the computer for him to stumble across? Or enlist a friend to innocently start telling you about a fictitious colleague who's having an awful time of it and it's all down to the dh's drinking, the doctor said so....

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 08/11/2012 12:41

Hi not been around for ages.

winkle great news on the SA.

red I too have had the whole I need to get pregnant all my friends are knocked up. I'm over it now. What will be will be.

Haven't had sex at all this month, first I had a stinking cold then dh got it. Typically I got loads of ewcm this month.

redstrawberry · 08/11/2012 13:11

kitten - grapefruit juice is supposed to help with the quality of fertile CM, supposed to make it more thinner and easier for soldiers to swim through. Sort of similar to what EPO does.

It didn't make any difference for me, but maybe its because I have EWCM and fertile CM every month after AF finishes. So probably never noticed any difference.

when I know what you mean, trying to see the positives of it all.

I had a peek on fertility friend to check what CD I was on today Blush I am terrible at bottling ttc up!

winkle2 · 08/11/2012 23:08

Welcome back kitten!

Good luck with dtd red.

Yikes - read on drinkaware website. It says women shouldn't drink at all when ttc apart from 1-2 units a week (!!) and men can't get away with heavy drinking, they should stick to 21 units a week.

I'm on cd21 and trying to drag oh away from question time to dtd!!
