Sperm meets egg meets CBFM?

Idratherbe · 05/08/2012 21:16

Does anyone know how the sperm meet egg plan works alongside the clearblue fertility monitor? I'm hoping to shock my poor body into actually conceiving this month by combining hardcore science with good old fashioned well timed shagging.

So, if I'm supposed to bonk on the 3 days following a positive OPK, in CBFM world does that mean the 3 days following first peak reading? Or the 3 days following first high reading? I'd assume the former because the CBFM predicts LH surge but I'd be grateful for any advice and success stories using SMEP.

After having tried any which way to get pregnant for the last 6 months sans success, I WILL get pregnant this month. By hook or by crook!

Yes i think i'm using it.

How is everyone getting on? Any positives? Here's hoping for some soon.

Dtd-ing in ernest this week. Every day for the next few days then back to every other. Baby sitting duties over, made me evaluate if i am doing the right thing. Decided with dh that we were. But we are exhausted and havent dtd since monday. So that is the reason for the renewed vigor.

Idratherbe · 14/08/2012 10:25

Well in the end i decided on a new tactic for this month - no CBFM and no SMEP, just tonnes of vitamins and letting DH take charge of when we do it. He's been doing his own research on what's best for winning baybees so I figure we've tried every other way so far, now it's his turn. My only stipulation is that I have to, ahem, enjoy it as much as he does (and preferably immediately after he has). Tough gig Smile. We're both rattling with all the supplements we're taking in the vain hope of making the optimum environment for a happy little bean. Good luck everyone.

Tested early! i know not ususally a good idea, but there is a faint, but clear enough, BFP!
Dont want to get too excited after last month it didn't take, but fingers crossed. Grin It will work Idra. Just enjoy the ride Wink.

To be honest, i know have an essay to write and i'm a little distracted to say the least. made the mistake of watching that midwife prog, bit scared now!

Idratherbe · 26/08/2012 20:57

Woo Toffee!!! That's great news, now relaaaaaxxxxxx.....

I'm deeply confuddled now - I usually OV around CD16 and think it was CD14 this month. I am not checking anything but cervix and CM. Anyway, I had loads of fertile mucus including EWCM in abundance this weekend, and I'm now on CD22. Can't decide if I've ov'd freakishly late so we've been doing it a lot. Had been doing it EOD until Thurs.

So Toffee, do spill the beans on how things were different this month, emphasis on the 'diff' Wink

Congrats toffee!

Congrats toffee!

toffeesam · 29/08/2012 09:46

Differences? Hmm thought i had missed it this month, (had bro's kids for the vital week) and after the chem last month wasn't hopeful. Just DTD every day fro a week from the day i realised that i OV-ed (and gave the kids back). Blush

was suprised when the sore boobs and feeling sick came along. Shock
Still nervous cos it is early.

thanks for the congrats. How is every one getting on? any more BFP for May babies?

winkle2 · 29/08/2012 14:46

Hmmm maybe I should try DTD every day! We tend to DTD EOD from CD10, then every day when I'm OV (I use the monitor) and then back to EOD till AF arrives.

toffeesam · 29/08/2012 16:53

DTD every day for a full cycle! you would be worn out Blush

winkle2 · 29/08/2012 23:27

NO I mean dtd every day when I think I'm OV!'
I couldn't dtd every day - we did SMEP for a couple of months and dtd for 3 days in a row knackered us our!

winkle2 · 29/08/2012 23:27

*out

Fay30 · 30/08/2012 03:08

Hi all,
We still try for our first (my first, his 5th) but no luck yet
We dtd generally every other night, and some times in between for good measure.
We have been using Conceive plus, without success, so now we will try Pre Seed.
DH had a snip reversal, 2 years ago, with limited success.
I guess we have already aligned ourselves to the fact we will need ICSI or IVF assistance.
Damn good fun, and exhausting trying though.
I don't know where he gets all his stamina from.
Completely leaves me shattered, and good for nothing.
Then has the cheek to want again in the morning.
Bugger off !

Fay.

Grin Faye

Anyone used the CBFM for a few months? As I'm on cd11 of the third month of using it and I haven't had my high yet. Usually get my peak on cd13 so would have had my high by now. Should I start to dtd or should I wait?

toffeesam · 30/08/2012 12:20

Do it it can't hurt Smile

does that mean you are due to ov on cd13? i'm still not sure about all this stuff. Sperm can live in you for 3 days, so having some in there can't hurt.
Smile

winkle2 · 30/08/2012 18:26

Well my cycles aren't regular so not sure what day I OV but the last 2 months I've had my peak cd13.

toffeesam · 31/08/2012 11:17

Like they say 'the more the merrier' so get to it Smile

winkle2 · 31/08/2012 12:48

Panic over! Got my high today. You all know what I'll be doing later Grin

Idratherbe · 31/08/2012 18:37

Go forth Winkle...

Well my period is in theory due any day now, most likely on Monday. I can't help but feel a quiet sense of disappointment already, but there's nothing to say I couldn't be preggers so must...retain...misplacedoptimism...

Good luck idratherbe. I know what you mean about feeling disappointed around AF time. I always get like that too.

joberg · 01/09/2012 19:40

This looks like a fun thread! I am currently ttc but hubby wants no part in the science, so have to just be quiet about my cycle and pounce! Hope there is a welcome party for my egg too this month!!! Ha! Currently using the EOD method, but am only on 2nd cycle after D&C in July, so not too sure whats hapoening just yet. fingers crossed!!! Congrats toffee!!!

winkle2 · 02/09/2012 11:01

Good luck joberg!

clickingtock · 03/09/2012 17:32

DTD EOD won't help if you have male fertility issues, usually unidentified. I tried this method for over a year of TTC2 and was ovulating like clockwork according to CBFM. Then discovered v low sperm count despite conceiving DS straight off (like OP). Got pg the month we waited 5 days before LH surge then DTD bang on ov day. (He'd also given up booze and had acupuncture for 3 months). So am 22wks pg after about 18 cycles and am aged 40. Just trying to encourage u all and remind you that it's not all about ovulation. Good luck; I know how hard it feels. X

joberg · 04/09/2012 23:08

Oooohhhh sex week has passed, and now it's the dreaded waiting game..... I hate this part! :)

Idratherbe · 05/09/2012 13:43

Hi Joburg, welcome to the party, and all the best for the next gruelling 2 weeks - may you be too busy or relaxed to even consider symptom spotting.

Update from the IRB house: late by a few days. Did a test on Monday and I was almost convinced I saw the merest trace of a line but thought i'd wait a few days to see if period turned up before testing again as DH is in charge this month and has asked me to pee on a bit of plastic tomorrow.

I'm not excited, I'm just horrified at the thought of seeing a negative test. In the back of my mind I may have ovulated ridiculously late this month, only because i had the usual CM for bonk week which happened again a week later. So it's open to debate. If I did OV later then I shouldn't really test again til Sat.

Just waiting....
