AAAAAAAAGH AF due today and am freaking out here

emeraldgirl1 · 16/07/2012 10:14

Been ttc for last 6 months and AF due today.
Am driving myself properly NUTS stressing out about it right now. Dreading going to loo every time I need to in case I see evidence I don't want to see :( As if not going to the loo is going to prevent AF coming!!!!
Stupidly working from home today so am able to obsess about it more and more...
Worse thing is that have had even more crazy symptoms than usual this month so am stupidly convincing myself I've struck gold this time when in reality of course the chances are it's just bad PMA.
Any advice for how to get through the day until my period inevitably makes an unwelcome appearance??

emeraldgirl1 · 16/07/2012 10:15

edit - That would be PMS btw not PMA - God knows what PMA would be... Pre menstrual anxiety??? :)

wilderumpus · 16/07/2012 10:50

erm, do a test? Grin

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 16/07/2012 10:53

Yeah, go on. POAS and tell us :)

Hey, at least you'll know one way or the other. I think a test is likely to be accurate, given that you have had the self-restraint to wait this long. Though maybe you have a no-testing-til-AF-actually-late policy? Very sensible if so.

You could while away the time by giving us a run-down of your symptoms if you like?

emeraldgirl1 · 16/07/2012 11:06

thanks for replies ladies!!
Well, 2 issues with POAS are that a) I think have developed a POAS phobia after breakdown madness last month... and b) I am stuck in waiting for DHL delivery God knows when so can't nip up the road to get sticks to pee on anyway...

Would LOVE to while away the time/share the madness with symptom run-down though, if you're at all interested!!!

boobs massive and sore and swollen for whole of last week - I do get this with PMS but not usually quite as bad as this. Also boobs 'tingly' sometimes if that makes any sense?

stomach upset for no apparent reason for last 2 days.

bloated and kind of 'hard' tummy, again I do get this with PMS but this does some worse... or am I just imagining...?

more spots than usual with PMS

odd taste in mouth once or twice

knackered more than usual and have actually fallen asleep in the afternoon 2 or 3 times in the past 2 weeks.

Mumsnet oracle - what is your verdict???! Wink

OP posts:
SomethingSuitablyWitty · 16/07/2012 11:23

I'm no oracle, but am quite happy to fuel the flames of your madness if you like. Wink

The symptoms do sound promising, especially, IMO, the tiredness, which can be a real giveaway for some people.

It's true that you have to be a bit disciplined with the POAS and sounds like you managed to both upset yourself and piss away a fair few bob last month, so if you can, wait until tomorrow and test only if there is no sign at all of AF. If you use FMU, you should have a clear answer one way or the other by then. And no more poasing allowed after that, unless several days have passed with no AF. So you could buy a test this afternoon after the delivery and then use tomorrow or if irrelevant by then, save for next month.

TBH, when I had DD, I had no symptoms at all really except the tiredness, which I really only noticed when looking back on it, but just thought I was a bit knackered at the time. So you can't build on the ol' symptoms too much.

Fingers crossed for you though!! The 2ww is always hard.

emeraldgirl1 · 16/07/2012 11:27

SomethingSuitablyWitty - am being dim - what is FMU?

The tiredness really took me by surprise last week but then I am prone to tiredness in week before period so who knows? It was astonishing though, I could barely keep my eyes open some days.

OP posts:
Mama1980 · 16/07/2012 11:31

I'm no oracle either Wink but All sounds promising. For me the dead giveaway is sickness my body only has to think about pregnancy and I'm violently Ill at every opportunity Grin no tiredness but everyone is different. I would try to wait until tomorrow to test if you possibly can. I have my fingers crossed for you.....

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 16/07/2012 11:32

So you are not familiar with the delightful phrase "First Morning Urine"?

Clearly, you have actually been fairly restrained on the whole TTC obsessing. Wink

As you probably know, this is by far the best time to test in the early days - a test that is positive with FMU might be negative later in the day as the hormones level are too low in the more dilute pee.

I hope the tiredness is a symptom. It definitely could be. I wouldn't really expect it to kick in until 10 or 11 DPO though - anything before that could be just normal knackeredness.

emeraldgirl1 · 16/07/2012 11:43

SuitablyWitty ooooh, now, haven't heard the FMU as shortening for that... but have used FMU (see how I start the lingo?) every time have tested in the past... what a great way to start the day THAT is! Angry

Mama1980 yes, everyone does seem to be different which makes the guessing game even more -addictive-- pointless! I was terribly nauseous in TWW a couple of months ago and of course convinced myself that was 'it' but it was either just general hormone issue or my mad brain convincing me I felt sick!

OP posts:
wilderumpus · 16/07/2012 12:12

I have loads of symptoms every month! is all bollocks, but yours do sound promising Confused.

tbh just poas and find out - when you start fretting it is time to give in I think and save your sanity of 'am I, aren't I'?! good luck!

emeraldgirl1 · 16/07/2012 12:21

wildrumpus thanks - of no sign of AF later this afternoon by the time DHL man has been and gone I will nip up to Boots. Still think I may hold out til tomorrow though and use FMU for maximum accuracy.
AF usually does arrive first thing in the am on the day it's due so is already 'late' in one sense today. Still, not unheard of for me to get it on day 30 so not counting any chickens.
BTW - does anyone know if feeling sick right after eating (anything) is (yet another) symptom of pg?

OP posts:
SomethingSuitablyWitty · 16/07/2012 12:24

Could be, but then again, could be just that you are in a state of stress and excitement and that's what's making you feel sick.

Sounds like a very sensible decision re: tomorrow, so try not to build your hopes up too much until then. And come back and let us know of course! Good luck.

redstrawberry · 16/07/2012 13:24

your symptoms sound very promising!
have you been on this site - to keep yourself from going mad if you are the numbers and stats sort of gal!
www.countdowntopregnancy.com/early-pregnancy-symptoms/symptoms-by-day-past-ovulation.php

best to POAS to put yourself out of this misery. i'm in the same boat but a week to go till AF due. difficult times indeed.

iloveberries · 16/07/2012 16:23

Good luck!! It bloody sucks that af symptoms are the same as pregnancy symptoms!! For the past 12 months I've thought I was pregnant!

emeraldgirl1 · 16/07/2012 16:30

iloveberries yep, it sucks!!! Sounds like you've been doing the same as me! But the thing is, what are we meant to do - NOT be hopeful and optimistic? If you do want a baby, you're bound to be hopeful that you've conceived one!

Still no AF here BUT have obsessively gone thru diary for past 12 months and seen that a 29 day cycle is average for me but not guaranteed. Sometimes I have a 30 or even 31 day cycle. So still don't feel I can 'officially' call it a late period until tomorrow...

OP posts:
emeraldgirl1 · 16/07/2012 16:31

Also redstrawberry thank you! Oh, I love a good statistic... :)

OP posts:
iloveberries · 16/07/2012 16:44

Still emerald it is looking good for you!!!

And you're right - we have to be positive!!

emeraldgirl1 · 16/07/2012 16:47

Thanks iloveberries

Question for anyone who's well up on sore/swollen boobs thing - I think I am right in thinking that they usually stop being sore/swollen a day or two before AF arrives, right? At least, I think (but am doubting) that this is what is usual for me. But hormonally I think that's correct, isn't it? Progesterone dips right before AF starts? So if they are still sore and swollen on day it's due, that might be more of an indicator of upduffness...?

OP posts:
iloveberries · 16/07/2012 16:56

#overexamining!!

emeraldgirl1 · 16/07/2012 16:57

iloveberries moi? Wink

OP posts:
iloveberries · 16/07/2012 17:00

It's like I'm looking in a mirror!! ;)

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 17/07/2012 08:54

Morning emerald just checkin' in to see have you correctly diagnosed yourself?! I brushed my teeth quite hard last night and my gum bled a tiny bit, so I'm definitely pregnant too Wink.

Good luck with the FMU and all that malarky!

Mama1980 · 17/07/2012 09:06

Just checking hoping for good news.....

emeraldgirl1 · 17/07/2012 10:13

uhh... it's a BFP... still can't quite believe it but it's a definite...
DH still in shock!
Thanks for checking-in, ladies - looks like those in-my-head symptoms weren't quite so in my head after all...

OP posts:
SomethingSuitablyWitty · 17/07/2012 10:15

That's bloody fantastic! I was really hopeful for you (but didn't want to build you up too much yesterday, just in case). Wink

Hope this is the start of a very happy, easy pregnancy with a delightful placid baby at the end.

Congratulations!!!!
