lurcher at 6 weeks plus 2 you should be able to see a heartbeat. But don't panic if you can't as it only takes a couple of days being out an you won't be able to. So do t panic. American pregnancy association has great info on development but can't link to it as in the car. Good luck.

Miggle glad you are feeling a bit better but keep an eye on that temperature.

webminx · 27/08/2012 14:17

Hello,
Hope you don't mind if I join. had a mmc in June and just stopped bleeding last week. Feel "back to normal" physically finally and have started TTC again. Feel very nervous as no idea what cycles will be like now, if I can get pg again and even if I can, if I can stay pg again. There was "no reason" for the last MMC so theories abound in my family (DM and MIL) which has made me really doubt myself. Is there something I should be doing beyond taking the folic acid/prenatal vitamins and actually TTC pretty regularly? People keep telling me to get my hormone levels checked - should I be doing that?

JaffaSnaffle · 27/08/2012 20:52

webminx, hello lovely, welcome to the thread. I'm am very sorry about your loss.

I'll try and answer your questions as best as I can :)

For a lot of people, me being one of them, twice, there is no explanation or underlying reason for miscarriage, especially ones which occur early in pregnancy. Can I ask how far on you were when you miscarried? The statistics vary, but a common one is 1 in 4 pregnancies sadly end in a loss. These losses are to do with random chance at conception - just the particular way in that particular circumstance. When you say there was no reason, did you have any tests done?

Then there are some women who have specific problems that increase their risk of miscarriage. These can include clotting problems, the structure of the uterus or cervix, and hormone imbalances. I'm not very knowledgable about these, but I think things like lupus, or dodgy thyroids can cause problems.

I am not sure how much investigation and testing you have already, but if what you have been told is true, that there was no reason for it, then it really sadly is just one of those things. There is nothing you didn't do before, or could do going forward that would make any difference. I am sorry you are the subject of theories. It is very hard, I find it very unnerving not to have any answers or anything in my control, but in someways it takes some worry away.

If you mc in June, and have just stopped bleeding, that is quite a long time. Was there any reason why it lasted so long? Also, you might be anaemic- have you been checked over? Post miscarriage cycles can be mental. We call them the WTF cycle on this thread! Some people bounce straight back to normal while others have months of
weirdness.

Please don't worry about being able to get pregnant again after mc, mc does not mean you have gone wrong somehow... It means you have had the one pregnancy in 4 that ended in a loss. With in that group, (and this group), there is a wide spectrum of experience, but no future problems is the most likely outcome.

MiggleMoo · 27/08/2012 21:59

I just echo jaffa's really good response, webminx so sorry you had to go through this and good luck ttc again.

Thinking of you today lurcher you should be able to see the heartbeat at six weeks.

Sorry to hear you news jollyb and miggle it's really hard to take a break from ttc. I took a six months break last year and it was difficult. I wouldn't do it again. It was mainly dh that wanted the break.

webminx what tests have you had to say there was no reason for the mmc? not really sure what having hormones tested means - who is telling you to do that?

pebspop · 28/08/2012 10:00

forgot to update about me!

i am just plodding along doing ok. waiting for my next scan in a couple of weeks.

wilderumpus · 28/08/2012 11:17

good luck today lurcher.

welcome minx sorry to hear about your mcs. Jaffa looked after you well I think!

I have a skanky cold! yack. 4dpo on the Longest Cycle in the World. Starting to fret I have hormonal ishoos that mean i will never make a baby. arf. would going back on the pill for a couple of months sort this out do you think?

glad you plodding along pebs! plodding is good :)

pebspop · 28/08/2012 11:29

plodding is great wilde so much better than stressing!

this is your first cycle after cp if i am right and this is a wtf cycle for you. wait and see what next cycle is like - if you have one (i hear colds are a pg symptom!)

wilderumpus · 28/08/2012 12:03

you are right pebs and kind to remember (not that I don't witter on about it every. bloody. day :)).

I didn't know you could have a wtf cycle after a CP, especially since AF came on time, I was 'pg' for such a short time... I didn't think of that really, just thought a hormone problem might have caused the CP, rather than the other way around...

MandaHugNKiss · 28/08/2012 17:24

wilde Woman, if I can impart just one more piece of advice on this thread let it be this:

NEVER go on the pill to sort your cycles!

The pill suppresses ovulation and although a small minority might find they keep their new regular cycle when they come back off it (it can act a bit like a 'reset'), for most women they are back to square one with a wacky cycle but a few more six months down the line.

Better to take something that works with your body than completely over-riding it... Can I interest you in some high dose B vits? Grin

MiggleMoo · 28/08/2012 17:54

So frustrated! Went to GP they'll run some blood tests and acknowledge my last 2 miscarriages but referred to the first chemical pregnancy (about 5 weeks) as my body's misunderstanding and said I had to have 3 'proper miscarriages' before referring to unit. But keep ttc and they'll see next time! Not sure how to feel now!

Jollyb · 28/08/2012 18:16

Oh miggle that's so frustrating, especially as some people are being referred after 2. I'm seeing my GP next week for the same reason and am hoping I won't be fobbed off. At least you've had blood tests etc.

My partner dared to say that one of my miscarriages wasn't a proper one last week!

MiggleMoo · 28/08/2012 18:43

Thanks jolly, they just made me feel a little nuts! And then added the comment, well keep ttc and if it happens again we'll see a pattern! They obviously have no idea how this feels! I'm 30 in 8 weeks would love a sticky bfp as my 30th present but we'll see!

JaffaSnaffle · 28/08/2012 18:48

manda!!! How are you, and all your family? How is your baby son doing? I have thought of you often, particularly in terms of late pregnancy metalling. I didn't fully understand what you were going through in the Spring, but here I am, 30 weeks, not a stitch bought, washed or packed. I cannot relax and accept that she is coming, and I feel like I would be tempting fate...

lurcher, I hope your scan went well today.

Waves and hugs to everyone...

JaffaSnaffle · 28/08/2012 18:52

I had my post open for a while, started while making dinner, finished off later. miggle, I am sorry. I never understood the distinction of 'chemical' pregnancy, it annoys me.

wilderumpus · 28/08/2012 19:27

hehe thanks manda! i completely know this but the GP - the actual GP - told me to go on the pill to sort my cycles out. I thought 'eh?' because all I hear about it is people having to wait ages to get their cycle sorted. So thought I would broach it here anyway :) I have got B vits in my pregnacare tabs, maybe I should get the special complex as I get moody as hell and I think B vits help with PMT don't they. anyway I hope you are well with your baby :)

ah miggle. What a shite response. the more I am on MN the more it seems GPs have no idea about fertility. It completely puts me off going to the drs for 'help. I have had two CPs and one 'proper' mc and for some reason I don't think the cp's count. I don't know why, maybe I didn't have time enough to believe either of them, was literally a super-faint line one day, gone the next then AF at the normal time. Other people's CP count though, to me Confused Hope you are ok chicken.

StateofConfusion · 28/08/2012 19:44

Evening all, quick Q as my HCPs are being useless.

I was prescribed vit D at 12wks. Told to see doc for repeat, the evil tablets (I had to suck and chew) made me feel very grim, gag and sometimes be sick, so I ring dr to sort repeat and ask if there's a diff kind, no see you consultant. Ask midwife, ask a chemist. Who then says ask consultant, who I can't contact and won't see until november. So I've got myself a pregnancy multi vitamin with 200% RDA Vit D will that do until then???

MiggleMoo · 28/08/2012 19:56

Cheers wilder, I never know what the actual definition of a chemical pregnancy is? I showed bfp for a week but seems by dr's standards it is because I didn't have an appointment in that time. We are going to continue ttc this month and see what happens.

Thanks jaffa I can only imagine how you feel, my pregnancy with my ds was so blissful as I was completely ignorant of all of these fears. Now I can't believe I'd be able to relax either. However do try and enjoy it won't be long till your gorgeous little one will be in your arms! X
