Hi Ladies,

Wondering desperately what is going on with my body, tested yesterday at 14dpo and got a positive (albeit a faint one!) with a clearblue (one of the old fashioned ones with a line not digital) didn't use first wee of the day. Tested again today - again not first urine with a digital and also an Internet cheapie - both negative :( I did put both tests in the same wee stream iyswim could this have messed things up (clutching desperately at straws) or is this just a chemical pregnancy? Any help/similar experiences appreciated. Sorry of garbled on my phone!

Clearblue are notorious for giving false positives; digitals are not the most sensitive and ICs are a bit hit and miss - in my humblest of humble opinions. I always consider First Response to be the most accurate. If i get a positive on them, whether faint or strong, then i feel confident that it is correct (likewise if i get a negative as well!!)

Could you try a first response with FMU tomorrow? When is AF due?

monkeymoma · 18/05/2012 13:20

do you still have the first test? CB are known for giving disseapearing positives which fade. Unofficial internet testers have got them from CB before even ovulating!

I think I read somewhere as a general rule of thumb that you can trust red tests more than blue ones, I only buy red or digital now

Hopefullbelle · 18/05/2012 13:25

Thanks everyone Smile Period was due yesterday or today not quite sure think I'll go out and buy a first response of no af by tomorrow.

Hi Superdrug ones pick up 10miu so very sensitive. Also have pink dye. Superdrug doing 2 x two pack for £7.99. Just got some myself today. I've found them to be reliable in the past. Goodluck x

Hopefullbelle · 18/05/2012 14:54

Am driving myself mad googling all different possibilities and trying to not go out and buy another test as keep thinking its probably all for nothing and AF will arrive in a minute Sad
For what it's worth the clear blue positive line showed up within seconds and although faint is still visible today. That being said the Internet cheapie (alas with the allegedly more reliable pink dye) shows no trace of line (no matter what angle i squint at it or what light I put it under Blush) and the clear blue digi big glaring "not pregnant" feels very damming.
Thanks for the tip on superdrug tests - cant believe how emotionally invested I've got myself all over a line!

Just to update, i caved and bought a first response did it this evening and it showed a faint (but definite) line! it was a two pack so will do the other with fmu tomorrow - just praying it'll show a stronger line then.

wilderumpus · 18/05/2012 19:29

yay for a FR line :) I got a faint line with an IC but a good strong line later the same day with a FRER. No one tells you how complicated testing can be! good luck for tomorrow but anyway, congratulations!

monkeymoma · 18/05/2012 19:41

congratulations! I think FR are more reliable than CB non digital Grin

Hopefullbelle · 19/05/2012 10:58

Thought I'd update you as I know from trawling the Internet myself how frustrating it is when stories are left unfinished. I tested today with fmu and the line is still ever so faint, I'm feeling slightly crampy so am suspecting chemical pregnancy and an unhappy ending Sad Thanks for all the replies and support.

OP posts:
monkeymoma · 19/05/2012 11:34

cramping is normal, is it much fainter than yesterday?

Christelle2207 · 19/05/2012 11:37

Try and keep positive though it must be hard. Unless the line is fainter I would say this is good news. If you can hold on for a couple of days before POAS fingers crossed it will be stronger. Cramping is good unless accompanied by bleeding I reckon.
If not though, hugs, and well done for conceiving even if unhappy ending and fx for next time. I have not had a whiff of anything ever.

Hopefullbelle · 19/05/2012 12:45

Thanks, I'm too scared to think positive as I feel like I'm setting myself up for disappointment iyswim?
The line is pretty much the same strength as yesterday I can't actually tell the difference between the two tests but seeing as it was done with fmu I'd have expected much stronger?
Also everything I google about faint lines seem to result in ectopic or chemical pregnancy. So I'm scaring myself silly. Can't help but think in this day and age there should be some kind of conclusive "yes you are definitely pregnant and will have a healthy baby in 9 months time" kind of test rather than all this faffing about weeping on sticks and analysing lines!

OP posts:
Hopefullbelle · 19/05/2012 12:46

*weeping = weeing! Although I do now feel like weeping on my sticks maybe it'd give a more conclusive result Grin

I got lines on FR before anything on ebay ones, but it was fainter than the control till about 5 weeks I think

LaMeuf · 19/05/2012 12:50

Last May I had loads of disappearing positives with clear blue. I also had faint lines with FR. I now have a 4 month old. Good luck!

Hopefullbelle · 19/05/2012 14:24

Thanks for the encouragement I so hope it's the same for me. I have to do a supermarket shop later, I'm not sure I'll be able to resist the temptation to buy another test! I feel like a crazy person Blush

Hopefulbelle - I'm with you in your craziness today!!! Here's a Brew

Googling manicaly too as have felt so nauseous for 2 days and AF a day late (though am not always regular) BUT clear blue digital gave me a BFN yesterday and day before... not sure am going to resist temptation to buy more tests but am driving myself mad with the Whatifs!!!!

Hope you're getting some resolution at least? Good luck!!! x

Hopefullbelle · 19/05/2012 18:37

Bad news I'm afraid everyone, I've started bleeding so it's a game over for me. Emerald and all of those testing this month I wish you all the very best of luck.

OP posts:
monkeymoma · 19/05/2012 18:38

sorry to hear that, take care and best of luck for next month x

shinyblackgrape · 19/05/2012 18:47

hopeful - I'm so sorry to hear that. I had this two consecutive months and the third month I had a bfp that so far is sticking. I'm 13 weeks today.

I mentioned it to the lovely doctor who I saw with this bfp and he was very kind and told me that your fertility increases after a bfp like this even if it just stuck for a day or two which could have been why I had 3 bfps in a row. Will keep my fingers crossed its your month next month

Hopefullbelle · 19/05/2012 21:22

Shiny, thank you for the silver lining Smile I suppose i'll look at it as one more step down the ttc road x

Absolutely hopeful. Onwards and upwards. Was just passing on as kind of wished I'd known at the time to make me feel a bit less shitbags

Hi ladies
Just looking for some advise
My last period started on the 24th of October I am 3 days late. Took a first response test last wednesday it showed up positive one hour later I took a clear blue test which was negative. So left it for a few days and today bought boots brand 2 pack first test positive one hour later negative. I have cramps on and off the last few days. what should I do now? could I be pregnant?
